Backstory: Born in an upper-class family on Rodia, Rilri is the son of Vrin Tonena, a high-ranking Rodian military officer and a minor member of a noble clan, and his wife Iille, an administrator in a local merchant firm. When he was a child, his younger sister Kilra was identified as Force-sensitive and trained as a Jedi, but Rilri's mother spent some time finding her. During a business transaction on Coruscant, she managed to smuggle a contraband comlink to Kilra as part of a delivery to the Temple, and as such Rilri was able to maintain a good relationship with his sister. He decided to put himself through medical school on Carosi XII, but though he trained as a physician, when the Clone Wars broke out, he volunteered to join the Clan Tonena House Guard, where he became a medic.
During a Separatist bombing of Rodia, Rilri and his squadron were almost killed by enemy assault droids aboard the Tel Matza orbital station, but they were saved by the intervention of Ravim Degrin, a human Jedi Knight who later fell to the Dark Side. This, combined with his sister's position in the Order, left Rilri with a long-standing admiration for the Jedi and their code.
When the Jedi Order fell, Kilra Tonena was assigned to Eufornis Minor, a small colony in the Outer Rim, and while she lost contact with her brother, Rilri still hopes that she is alive somewhere. Rodia's various clan security forces were set to be integrated with the Imperial Army, causing Rilri to leave the army and turn in his weapons and armor. Armed with only his father's antique hunting rifle and assorted personal defense gear, he signed on with Vral'Rigad Freight, a minor shipping company owned by the Balosar Ven Vral'Rigad, where he found that his previous experience with vehicle construction served him well.
Assigned as the ship's doctor to the Horizon Glory, a battered Ghtroc 720-class freighter, Rilri was stranded on Sel Zonn when the transport he worked on was impounded on suspicion of smuggling. As the campaign begins, he is growing bored of his time aboard the station, and he has been considering formally resigning and seeking work with another ship.
