But to be honest, I've never been big on tracking encumbrance. As along as a STR 10 character isn't trying to haul around 300 lbs. of stuff, I'm probably not going to worry about it. As far as I'm concerned it's extra paperwork that really only adds something in certain playstyles. Mine's not one of them.
And not wooof, but rather, Woot! indeed. LOL

WHAT?! Salsa, you need to be an encumbrance nazi! Just imagine how many small characters are built so they can take 100% carrying capacity while only paying like 1/2 weight on 30% of their equipment. My God, they could be illegally carrying like a portable... hot tub. Totally throws off play balance!

Character Background:
Culver Cobbletoss comes from humble beginnings, born the son of a gnome priest of Nethys and a rather talented halfling herbalist with a penchant for applying her arts to cooking. …or so he says. But then, Culver says a lot of things, many of them fanciful and untrue. More likely than not, his father was a traditional halfling, perhaps a mercenary or a wandering bard, but in any event, Culver’s not saying, even if he knows.
What is known is that several years ago he and his mother showed up in Kassen on the doorstep of the Seven Silvers, where his mother Aelna took a job as a cook and cleaning woman. The two have rented a room there ever since.
Culver may or may not actually be the nephew of Jimes “Short Change” Iggins, a notable employee at the inn, the young rogue calls him “Uncle” and has been mentored by him for some time. Though, to be fair, the clever and charismatic Culver also spends time around Jocyn, the local bard. At one point, the halfling had even considered training to be a bard himself, but proved less than adept at the arcane side of the profession.
Player Interview
1. What time zone are you in?
EST. Detroit, Metro Area.
2. How long have you been playing TTRPGs?
Since I was about 13. I’m 55 now. :D Started with the Blue and Red softcover D&D books and have played every edition, though wasn’t too fond of 4th ed. I’ve played Shadowrun, D6 Star Wars, and DM’d 3.5 ed and Marvel Superheroes for years for friends.
3. What’s your favorite part about playing TTRPGs”
Cliche, perhaps, but the creative social interaction first, the problem solving aspects, and then worldbuilding.
4. What do you expect from this game?
A fun “Zero to Hero” game where the growth of the characters is as important as the combat, a lot of fun and quirky play.
5. What do you expect out of your fellow players?
Heroic Cooperative storytelling, communicating and working together (players) even if our characters somehow don’t want to. (drama in the story is fun…not in real life, right?)
6. What do you expect out of me?
A good story, communication, and fairness in helping things along.
7. Beyond the obvious (generally stuff already prohibited by Paizo's forum rules,) what are your redlines? Are there any topics, themes, or imagery that you absolutely do not want to see in the game?
Might seem obvious, but no sex. Fade to black moments can happen, but not a fan of graphic stuff. Some graphic violence to set moods..i.e. Ravenloft kinds of settings, but that’s about it. Also, no bullying. If the characters are rping it, I’m fine, but no actual player to player bullying.
What is your character’s name?
Culver Cobbletoss.
How old is your character?
22 yrs old
What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
Silver-blonde tossled hair, bright blue eyes. 3’7” (Tall for a halfling). Wears studded leather, with a few daggers and a morningstar visible.
What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
Culver talks…a lot. He says things that at times are obviously untrue, as if to amuse himself as well as those around him.
Where was your character born?
He’s not even sure. Mom doesn’t really talk about it..though nowhere important, he’s sure.
Where were you raised?
In and around the Seven Silvers in Hassen.
By who?
His mother Aelni, as well as his “Uncle” Jimes and a few of the regulars at the tavern.
Who are your parents?
His real father was a soldier/scout name Fortunato and his mother is a herbalist/cook named Aelni. They never married before he went off to fight in some distant battle, never to return. Culver claims his father was a gnome wizard named Borthov who lives off in a distant tower in a magical valley.
Are they alive?
Fortunato? Unknown. Up to the DM. Mother? Definitely.
Do you have any other family or friends?
Culver spends a lot of time with Jolcyn as well as a few of the stable hands.
What is your character’s marital status?
Very single.
Kids?[/n]
Nope.
What is your character’s alignment?
Neutral Good with a lean towards Chaotic.
What is your character’s moral code?
Be mostly kind, except those that have got it coming to them. Never steal from someone who cant’ afford or doesn’t deserve to lose it. Being clever is every bit as important as being deadly.
Does your character have goals?
Eventually Culver wants to save up enough gold and influence to start his own inn.
Is your character religious?
He does his best to never disrespect any of the gods, though he doesn’t particularly honor one.
Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?
Culver prides himself on being witty and clever, and is rather headstrong.
Why does your character adventure?
How else will he ever be able to buy an inn?
How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
He’s a scout and rogue. Doesn’t consider himself a thief, since they steal for selfish reasons.
Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
He’s 3’7”. LOL
How does your character get along with others?
Culver usually gets along with everyone, even if he’s somehow irritating to them.
Is there anything that your character hates?
Not really.
Is there anything that your character fears?
Huge bugs. Hates them with a passion.
Moment of Glory… (This was from a character I didn't actually get to play in a Greyhawk setting, but wrote up this short origin story for him. He's an aspiring Paladin named Athald Urthadar. One of these days I'll get around to playing him in a game...)
Character History:
The act itself was not well thought out...simply acted upon. One moment Athald, a young assistant to Ulfgar the blacksmith, was hard at work repairing some old horseshoes for morning, and the next...he was standing in the street, defending a fallen knight.
Not that it was that simple. Nothing ever is.
The town was unofficially known as Nowhen, an out of the way haven just north of Critwall. Athald had grown up there, strong and good looking, well liked by most of the townsfolk. Had it been happier times in the Shield Lands, then he probably would have married a beautiful girl and had many happy children. Unfortunately, these were dark days indeed, as the hand of Iuz the Evil was still being felt everywhere in the kingdom. Cities had fallen to the Dark One in the last war, and even mighty Critwall had only barely been held by the forces of good.
In Nowhen, a small tavern based village, mercenaries wandered the streets as did the common folk. In general, so long as one did no harm and drew no weapons, the townsfolk would keep to themselves and sell their wares. It was indeed, dark times.
On the day in question, a Paladin had ridden into town, his shield and crest proudly proclaiming him a Knight of Holy Shielding. Most of the villagers were gladdened and uplifted upon hearing that the swordsman had come, the very thought of a warrior of virtue amongst them raising their spirits.
He'd not even made his way to the tavern however, when vile treachery struck. Passing the smithy, Athald had impulsively offered a welcoming wave, and it had been returned by the Knight...just before a crossbow bolt had been fired from out of view, piercing the swordsman through the neck. Time seemed to stop...and then the paladin was teetering and then falling heavily from his mount.
A rough cheer from uncultured men rang out, and several bounty hunters came out from their hiding places around some of the buildings. Athald would later learn that there had been a bounty of 500 gold lions placed on the knight's head by a corrupt Baron from the south, and that these crude men planned to collect it.
Stunned, Athald moved without even thinking. Afterwards, he would not be able to say exactly why he did what he did, except to say that it felt right. In any event, what the apprentice did, surprised everyone. Athald rushed out to the middle of the street, bypassing two of the six mercenaries, wielding only his hammer in one hand and an old, dirty horseshoe in the other.
The apprentice smith could see that the knight was still alive, if just barely, but bleeding profusely. Kneeling down, he put a hand on the the paladin's shoulder, "Sir...Sir, you must get up...they're here to kill you if they can."
"We will kill him, boy. Get out of the way, and save yourself some trouble." Came the gruff voice of one of the mercenaries, obviously the leader. "Go back to your anvil and let us get this done."
Athald looked down at the wounded paladin, choking on his own blood, and a well of rage built up inside him. These six men...these blackguards...were going to murder this noble warrior simply to line their pockets with gold. Blood stained coins.
"I will not." The words were spoken softly, but they carried easily to the brigands, and indeed to many of the townsfolk who were watching from their hiding places in their shops and homes. They were simple folk...not a warrior amongst them.
A dark chuckle came back as a reply, echoed from most of the mercenaries. "You've got some spit and vinegar to you, boy. I admire that. Now move, or you'll get the same as the knight, and we'll get our gold anyway."
Athald closed his eyes, surprisingly unafraid. He knew his course of action...for good or for ill, his path was clear. He dropped his hammer and the horseshoe, and then with a smooth motion, took hold of the knight's sword, drawing the weapon. It was a fine blade, finer than any that his master had ever forged, and the balance was perfect. Though he'd never held a weapon in self defense before, somehow, it just felt right.
"Boy...you'll not be asked again." The two brigands that held crossbows gave uncertain looks to their captain, but the other three simply glowered at the boy turned protector, their swords still in their sheaths. "You're no Paladin, lad. You're a smith. Put it down and you get to live."
Athald raised his head slowly, taking in each of the mercenaries in turn, without a trace of fear. "I. Will. Not."
There was a sudden rush of air, and the blade the boy held flared up with light and flame. Athald gave no sense of surprise, simply determination.
The bounty hunters flinched in fear, all turning to their captain, uncertain. "He's using the sword. He ain't supposed to be able to do that! It's a Paladin's weapon..." whined one of the crossbowmen.
"Shuddup. He's just one boy..." was the leader's reply, which was cut off by the sounds of horses upon the road. Worried looks were exchanged between the brigands and one of them called out, "Knights!"
All sense of discipline lost, the mercenaries scattered, running for their own mounts, all save their captain, who continued to stare coldly at Athald, a long dagger in his hand. "You've made no friend this day, boy...and the knight will die still, for all your efforts." An evil glare, and he too ran off for the alley between two buildings.
Athald glanced down at the fallen paladin whose breathing had grown shallow and his skin pale. The young smith bent down on one knee, touching the knight’s chest, the sword still aflame in his other hand and said simply, "Hold on...help is on the way.."
A soft glow issued from the point where the apprentice smith touched the paladin, and the knight's wound ceased to bleed. Still the bolt protruded from his neck, but the wound no longer bled freely. The Paladin's eyes flickered open for a moment, seeing the smith, and he gave a nod...before he fell back unconscious, and an exhausted Athald collapsed in the middle of the street.
Athald awoke later that day in a warm bed at the inn. Apparently several of the Knight's companions had arrived shortly after him, and had been the riders that had driven off the bounty hunters. They had also seen the actions of the young apprentice, and were awed. It was explained to the weakened blacksmith that the knight's sword was a Blessed weapon, a rare and ancient blade whose magic could only be called upon by the most honorable and true Paladins. Not one of the Knight's companions could have wielded it as Athald had...and in fact, they were amazed that a boy without proper training had been able to use it at all.
For himself, the events of the day were a blur to the smith, remaining in his mind almost as it had all been a dream. A day would pass before Athald would actually be introduced to the man whose life he had saved, Sir Luther Drakethon. After hearing the whole of what had happened, and thanking the boy for himself, Sir Luther had offered Athald a place at his side as a Squire, that he might learn the ways of Heironeous, as well as the skills needed to one day be a knight himself.
Athald agreed and spent the next few years in Sir Luther's service, only recently having been released to act on his own, travelling as a Knight Aspirant, seeking to prove himself worthy to be installed as a Full Knight in the service of the Knights of Holy Shielding.

Just for you, I'm going to figure out how to throw in a company of halflings running a roaming bathhouse. :P
If I make it into the game, I'm gonna hire those guys on retainer to follow me around with that hot tub. In fact, I'm gonna have a few burly halflings carry me around in it (sloshing naturally) like a palanquin. It'll wreck my stealth roll but gives a +10 circumstantial bonus to all Intimidate checks. And I can dive under water to avoid fireball spells. :D

I know you're joking (probably,) but I think that'd be a great idea for an NPC.
Anyway here's the updated list.

Maidie Henrod |
Well, now that you mention encumberance and characters with 10 STR…
Maidie accepts the lantern gracefully, but as soon as the mayor begins to speak again, she stops paying attention to his words, and focuses on examining the lantern. She turns it over in her hands and casts detect magic to find out if it enchanted.
When Dart makes his remark, she doesn't even look up, but mumbles Don't call me "hunny", you oaf. My name is Maidie. The remark is half-hearted though, as her interest is still captured by the lantern.
Once she is done with her examination, she seems to notice the equipment for the first time. Picking up a backpack, she begins loading her other possessions into it. When she is done, she struggles in vain to secure all the clasps and grimaces as she tries to lift it.
I wont be carrying any torches. As you can see, I'm perfectly capable of providing my own light, and I can barely lift this thing as it is. I don't suppose any of you big, strong types would be willing to carry my share of the food or some other piece of gear for me? I'm afraid we'll take forever to get to the tomb if I have to haul all this on my own all the way there.
The combination of the provided items and Maidies own gear puts her into heavy encumbrance by a few pounds.
Roaming halflings with portable hottubs sound like a wonderful idea, though. A simple cantrip can keep you clean enough, but nothing beats a nice hot soak in soapy water.

3. What’s your favorite part about playing TTRPGs? 100% the fluff. The longer between dice rolls the happier I am (as in we RP without dice, not that days pass between posts)
4. What do you expect from this game? A mix of story and combat - a game that finishes and ideally has the same players from the outset
5. What do you expect out of your fellow players? Regular posting and notice if they're away for any reason. A willingness to entwine back-stories
6. What do you expect out of me? Keep us moving and to finish the story :)
7. (If you don't want this to be public, PM me the answer to this one and just note that you did so.) Beyond the obvious (generally stuff already prohibited by Paizo's forum rules,) what are your redlines? Are there any topics, themes, or imagery that you absolutely do not want to see in the game? I'm fair game with anything that serves the story

As promised, here is SqueezeMeNow's entry. Just need to get a story sample and his background from head to paper. Which will likely be done late tonight/AM hours.
1. What time zone are you in?
Central time here in the states. MST.
2. How long have you been playing TTRPGs?
I played my first 3.5 campaign in my early twenties, so over fifteen years.
3. What’s your favorite part about playing TTRPGs?
I have a huge love for game systems. Be it cards, tactical games, rpgs, etc. I like figuring out how things work and especially being creative within said systems. Also a bit of a writer, so tabletop games are just the best thing ever.
4. What do you expect from this game?
I get the chance to play a unique character with others in a setting I have already had a taste of. Everything you can ask of a game.
5. What do you expect out of your fellow players?
Consideration and an expectation to play the game together as opposed to solo. Pick up what other players put down, work together, and not create problems or each other if possible.
6. What do you expect out of me?
A perfect dungeon master who is unfailingly knowledgeable, patient, and creative. While this is a PBP campaign, I also expect your farts to be odorless. Actually, so long as everyone respects each other's time and effort I'm usually golden.
7. Beyond the obvious what are your redlines? Are there any topics, themes, or imagery that you absolutely do not want to see in the game?
I've dealt with injury, emotional trauma, abuse, and ick in my life. I'm pretty mature. So long as I can take a second to break character and give my thoughts I'm not going to be put off my lunch or offended. If someone would prefer things in the campaign to change, be it me or someone else, I would want to have a discussion and a consensus reached. That said, most of the time I'll nod my head an roll with it so long as it falls into the role of DM or player.

Funny thing is, I was like "Druid, Half Orc, Male" and then... boom, someone makes that too. This is bound to happen, folks get similar concepts. No worries!
only Keth seems pretty awesome. Panic! :D
Okay, I find out we're allowed to make more than one... so I'm like "ive never played a summoner, I'll give that a try"
And no other summoners
But Maddie is a conjurer, which is the Original Summoner, and she's AWESOME too.
So at this point I figured I've got less than 50 hours to make 3 more characters and hurl them in hoping no one else makes an awesomer option ;) (I'm joking about that. Two is enough when no one else is taking advantage of the offer)
EDIT: And just to be clear, IF I am lucky enough to get either character selected, I got no problem with two druids or a summoner and a conjurer or whatever as long as the GM is happy with it

FWIW, I've tossed in two characters as well, so you aren't alone there.
Good to know I am not alone, thanks!
I really do NOT envy Salsa having to sort through all these excellent options

Nope! too late now! You've got 46 hours 53 minutes as of this post.
What? Boo! With those rolls, I was all ready to draw up a 1HD Uber (not the car service) Deathmeister

Well, us Gen-X types are just going to sit quietly and make up our own entertainment while the Boomers and Millennials argue (as usual).
What? Are you not entertained?
Honestly, I question whether or not I am a Millennial. Between Chainmail calling me an old soul and my sister calling me an old fart and stormraven here trying to bring me into the fold of the curmudgeons, I have to wonder if I somehow got lost in time. That or it could just be the gray hair. Had a great-grandmother that was grey by the time she was 35, and mines starting to get noticeable.
Or, I could just be plain weird. Crazy, even. A cuckoo! A nutcase! A screwball with a lemon twist!

Oh, I'm very entertained.
And hate to break it to you, Salsa - but this day and age, you can be both a Millennial and old at the same time.
You shut your garbage mouth right now! Take it back!
Speaking of which, I tweaked my back yesterday bending over to pick up a pen that had rolled off my desk.

Oh I know. I'm just being my silly self. I am looking forward to when the first of Gen-Z hits 30 in the next couple of years.
Besides, if you measure things on geologic time scales, then I'm not anywhere close to old. :P

Those were typos. I kept meaning to fix them. Thanks for pointing out the one for Walt, I hadn't noticed.
