Salsa, should we be using 'real' potions to heal folks up? I wasn't clear on whether you were kind of handwaiving the healing or want to actually tap resources. I have 3 pots left if those are needed.

Also, I'll send you Moon's HL file. I've got to see how the purchased items vs used consumable tab works. When I checked off using a pot as a consumable, it left my total alone in the Magic tab. It's just odd to me and a minor point, at best.

My first inclination was the Empyreal Knight but I can't justify giving up Divine Grace in exchange for...*checks notes* having Celestial as a bonus language.

But, given that it looks like Moon and and Casina will likely end up tag-teaming again, Divine Defender could give Moon some added defenses.

I'm handwaving it. After everyone's healed, all the PCs should have three potions of CLW each. Basically, I'm justifying it as using up up the potions that Keth, Culver, Voronoy, and Bimbur had.

Yeah, that's something that's always struck me as a bit odd. I would think that they could remove one potion and add in an empty vial, but I guess there were more problems doing that than we'd think given how much of a lot of other things are automated. Then again, they also have some issues with checking to see if a character can cast a spell for prerequisites, so who knows what's going on there. I think they've pretty much pivoted to developing HLO over the classic program.

Yes. But if you do use a consumable (like arrows) on the In-Play tab, they do list the reduced number on the Weapons tab. So they have it working there but not on the Magic tab? It's a bit of a head-scratcher but there you are. The subscription model definitely changed their approach... not complaining, just noting it.

I recently got a new pc at home, I still need to transfer my HL license. I'll be doing that tonight then I'll plug in Casina and send you her file.

Merry Christmas to all my players who use HeroLab for character creation. I've created a custom HL file that has both the Winter Cloak and a kit that includes everything that y'all got from the people of Kassen at the beginning of the adventure. I didn't include the bundle from the Campsite kit because it appears that it's a cooking kit and some firewood and a flint and steel. I'll just have that hanging out with Meep.

The more I work with the editor, the more I realize how powerful HeroLab actually is. It's a shame that it doesn't appear that we get the same from HLO. I wish I'd gotten more into this years ago! I'll definitely be creating a custom file the next time I decide to run some homebrew stuff.

I've gotten Maidie's and Moon's updated Herolab portfolios. From what it looks like, Grobradon may be the only one that doesn't use Herolab, so I'll get his character put in by hand.

I'll get a post up tomorrow replying to Maidie and Casina.

Oh, and let me know if you email me your character's .por file. I had to go looking in spam for Moon's.

Just find where the Portfolio(.por) is saved and either attach in an email or send it over Discord. If you pick Discord, you can select the file in the file manager, CTRL+C or CMD+C, then click into the message bar in Discord and CTRL+V or CMD+V to paste it. It'll upload and send it like any other file.

Custom HeroLab file has been updated.

When you first boot up HeroLab, you can import the .hl file by clicking the import file button on the select a game screen and navigating to where you save the above file on your computer.

This is what y'all should have in there.
- Heroes of Kassen Kit, includes everything that was given at the start of this adventure.
- Winter Cloaks, which now have the appropriate text explaining what they do, basically a +1 to fort saves vs. cold weather.
- The Waterproof scroll cases that Maidie and Betzolte received.
- The Master's Touch
- The holy symbol that Grobradon received (Faerie Light Holy Symbol of Gozreh)
- The holy symbol that Casina received (Hand of Mercy Holy Symbol of Dammerich)

The holy symbols should give access to the once a day abilities and in the case of the one Grobradon has, it should also give access to the Light spell as an at will ability.

So, it appears that we're all using HeroLab which is awesome because I can do stuff like this. I still want to add Betz's dagger so that it can do the same thing as Grob's holy symbol.

Also, I think I've mentioned this in Discord, but I'll put it here, Grob's breastplate is a Fortification(Light) Ironwood Breastplate since we're doing ABP. I'd also forgotten that it halves WBL, so y'all are going to be overgeared according to the rules, but I can deal with that.

I'll keep y'all updated on when I make changes to the file, so y'all can keep that up to date. It shouldn't change anything already in there, but I will be adding stuff.

Anyway, hope y'all have a Merry Christmas. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.

The real beauty of HL is for customizing baddies. You can build encounters super quickly.

Okay, so the .hl file's been updated again. I think I have everyone's special stuff that does special stuff in there.

- Betz, the chain shirt you want is Dwarven Wizard's Chain. The dagger is A Father's Love, to keep it from appearing above the custom option in the magic item selection window, and the waterproof scrollcase is in there as well.

- Maidie, the masterwork portable alchemist's lab is in there along with the Master's Touch and the waterproof scrollcase.

- Grobradon, your holy symbol is in there under the magic tab. You'll want to pick the Faerie Light Holy Symbol of Gozreh.

- Casina, your Holy symbol is also in there under the magic tab. It's the Hand of Mercy Holy Symbol of Dammerich. It gives you an extra LoH since that was really the only way I found to implement that quickly.

- Moon, sorry you got left out in this one. We'll see what happens in this and the next adventure.

You can download the .hl file to import into you're own herolab instance and the portfolio with everyone in there, including one Meep, the Goblin, from here. Please look at it to check and see if there's anything that needs to be fixed. I noticed there's some discrepancies between what I am getting and what Grobradon is getting. I think it's probably the Breastplate not being marked as masterwork. There's a checkbox next to where you select the armor type for that.

I think everyone's updated, for the most part. I'll move us on in tomorrow.

Just as a note, the stables are available for anyone that wants to stash the gear they don't need for dungeon delving, that includes any extra armor and other stuff you may have, although I do find the visual of Casina just shoving her old gear in Gerol's face amusing.

Before Bimbur rides off into the sunrise, we may want to ask him if he can spare his blunt arrows. We’re more likely to encounter more skeletons than he is.

Also, if we come up against anything incorporeal, we are kinda hosed. I guess Maidie and Betz could prepare a magic missile each, and get one extra use out of it with pearl of power/arcane bond. Any other ideas?

Anything else we should prep before going in? Maidie will provide some light, and possibly some recon ability in I decide to switch in the harrying cipher spell as well.

Alrighty! We are officially in the crypt! I'm trying to find a balance between agency, keeping things moving, and not giving too much away, so forgive me if I wind up confusing everyone instead.

I know we have three prepared spellcasters, so let me know when y'all have your spells picked for the day. I'm not going to kick of any fights until then.

Maidie has some different options for spell selection, depending on which tactics we want to use.

Her longest lasting spells are mage armor and unseen servant, at 2 hours each. That’s likely the limit for our work day, unless she uses her pearl for a second casting.

As already suggested, she can summon an unseen servant that can walk ahead of the group carrying a stone with light, flushing out enemies. Kills stealth as an option, though.

She also has harrying cipher, her new spell, which creates a tiny construct for 20 min that can squeeze under doors, trip enemies and convey limited info. The kicker is that she needs to take 3 hp of damage to cast, which can’t be healed while the spell is active.

She has grease and glue for battlefield control, which has been very useful so far.

A couple of round/level options like vanish and summon don’t seem worth it yet.

Cantrips: she can use open/close to open any door or container we meet, triggering potential traps from 30 ft away.

Thoughts?

In the interest of helping out with planning, Meep has a Perception of +5, darkvision, and a stealth of +15. She has +8 to Disable device, trapfinding, and y'all did recover enough tools to make a set of thieves tools. I went ahead and gave them to Meep.

Vanish could be useful for letting Meep set up a sneak attack or a flank, but 2 rounds is pretty limiting.

The baddies sent a force against us, so I think it is best to assume that the intelligent enemies know we are coming. I'm not against getting sneaky and trying to jump them.

How about we go with Moon and Meep up front? Meep is sneaky and can try to spot/disable traps (much better when she gets the Trap Spotter talent). And Moon is not quite as sneaky but brings more muscle to the game. Flanks and sneak attacks we can make happen as events unfold.

Since cantrips are free, I like using open/close to handle potentially trapped areas. In terms of Maidie's spells... I'd say it depends on what you want her role to be. If you want to go battlefield control, grease is grand. If you picture Maidie being a more aggressive caster, pick what you like to bring the pain. At 2nd level, I think you have room to experiment with approaches before committing. And we have a pally on board so when things get real dicey, Casina can bring the smite power to solve many issues.

Maidie is the classic support/GOD caster, straight out of Treantmonk’s guide. Augmented Summoning is next on her feat list and then it’s beefed up celestrial flanking buddies for days. But that’s not until level 3.

For now, her primary role is utility, debuff and battlefield control. We have plenty of people who can lay massive damage on the enemy, especially if they are served up stuck to the floor, lying flat on their arse or weaponless.

I also like a Meep/Moon point team. The rest of us will be close behind as backup.
