Go for it, Betz. Follow that angry dwarven heart and let your rage and spellcraft unite to crush your enemies.
P.s. I highly recommend the Moment of Clarity rage power. Take it from someone who once played a sorcerer/barbarian Dragon Disciple. Being able to drop out of rage to cast a spell at just the right moment can save your bacon or turn the tide of battle.

I mean, yeah, that goes without sayin'! ;)

I feel ya, brother. I feel ya.

DM-Salsa |

Okay, so going with three 4-hour watches, we have:
1- Bimbur, Grobradon, Gerol, and Roldare
2- Betzolte, Moon, Timolt, and Dimira
3- Casina, Maidie, Vark, and Anislee
Does that sound good with everyone?

DM-Salsa |

I think we should station Roldare in the crypt and lock the door... you know, just to be sure. >:)
As entertaining as that might be, there's not really a door to the stables. More like a gate.
Can we get a bit of background info on our new friends? What do we know about them?
Sure thing. I'll try to have that up this evening.

I was just kidding. I just want to hear Roldare shrieking for his mommy. Moon is CG... I'm not. XD

Okay, I hate having to do this, but I'm just too tired to muster the energy I need to get words from my head to the keyboard. I'm not going to post tonight. I'll try to get the information about the Kasseners you met here and post up tomorrow.
But just so y'all have something...
Anislee - Aspiring clockmaker, she's only a couple of years older than y'all and went on this quest with Garth.
Dimira - Seamstress, she's Roldare's youngest sister and about your age. She's widely considered one of the kindest people in Kassen.
Gerol - Woodcarver, he's one of Mayor Uptal's closest friends. Gregarious by nature, many forget he also served for several years as one of Nirmarthas' regulars against Molthune.
Roldare - Cobbler, he's in his late twenties, and generally considered surly and abrasive by most of the town's folk. He raised Dimira after their parents were killed almost a decade and a half ago.
Timolt - Tinkerer and knifemaker, he and his wife, Dana, have several children from two years old to twelve. He's generally quiet and some wonder if he's planning on opening his own shop.
Vark - Butcher, Another of Mayor Uptal's closest friends, he and Gerol have been friends since childhood. He's more thoughtful than Gerol, speaking only when he sees a need.

Maidie Henrod |

Thank you, Adam. This is more than enough to give a sense of who we’re dealing with here.
Do we know how Dimira and Roldare’s parents died?

Maidie Henrod |

That’s what I was thinking. It’s a little on the nose but certainly would explain a lot and potentially add more depth to the interaction.

DM-Salsa |

Yeah, it's on the nose, but it does make sense and fits the area.
Honestly that was the idea I had behind his behavior anyway, but I kept waffling on it. I think that's what I'm going to go with, though.
While I'm thinking about it, does anyone have a wishlist of stuff they'd like to have when they reach level 2? Think weapons, armor, tools, and the like. Keep in mind, it has to be in the CRB or the APG.

Maidie Henrod |

Alright, I’ll make a slight edit to the post I just made.
Maidie’s wishlist is fairly simple:
- More spells/scrolls
- Tools or items to aid her alchemical crafting
- Items that benefit Tanglefoot in any way.
- Items that boost her spellcasting, e.g. Pearl of Power.

Moon Akechi |

Moon is pretty well set, gear-wise. She wouldn't mind upgrading her composite longbow's STR rating to match her STR. Right now it is a +1 and her STR is +3. Having an Adaptive bow would be cooler over the long-term but I think that weapon mod isn't in the CRB or APG.

Why have regular ax when bigger ax exist? And why have bigger ax when BIGGEST ax exist?

Casina Brochus |

Man, as a Freedomican, I know "ax" is our correct spelling but dang does it look weird compared to "axe."

Moon Akechi |

Grammar rules, standards, and spelling are constantly evolving. Axe and ax both have long pedigrees according to the OED... so use whichever version you like best.
And if there are any grammarians here who find what I said complete heresy. :P

Betzolte Ironhame |

Oh, I definitely have a shopping list!
- Dwarven Waraxe (not sure if there's a special metal I should be angling for in the future, such as cold iron if there's demons or fey in future encounters, or silver if we're dealing with things like devils, vampires or werecreatures, though this may be thinking beyond the scope of the storyline and DEFINITELY beyond Crypt of the Everflame itself)
- Chain Shirt (upgrading to dawnsilver (aka the metal formerly known as "mithral") at the earliest opportunity
- Buckler (again, upgrading to dawnsilver when it becomes available)
- And the rest is pretty similar to Maidie's list: more spells and scrolls, and spellcasting-enhancing items.

DM-Salsa |

Grobradon? Bimbur? Y'all around? Do y'all have anything you'd like to have on your wishlist?
I'll try to have a more detailed write up on the NPCs this weekend. We'll see how that goes.

Grobradon |

Still around! Mix of RL goings on and the IC fact that Grobradon isn't always 'people-ly' ;)
I did miss mention of the Wish list. Very kind for you to ask.
I think after the shots they took from the arrows, he'd probably enjoy magic leather armor or the like for a bit more defense.
He's delighted by the potions they have taking some of the healing duties off though so far we still have those.
Oh, a bag of holding or anything else that helps with encumbrance. I know you aren't a stickler for those, but I do like having an excuse to ignore those darn penalties.
Beyond that, I'm not as sure. At this point it borders on the whimsical.
Ideas...
-A non magical but fancy symbol of Gozreh with a continual light cast on it. Bonus points if it has fairie fire colors instead of just looking like regular flame.
-A figurine of wondrous but useless power, such as a wooden songbird that sings a tune/song three times a day if asked. It doesn't inspire or anything. Just plays a music, so Grobradon won't have to mutilate another song ;)
-A pack of sling bullets shaped like acorns, not just magical, but with a chance of a corpse felled by one having a tree grow out of him in a few years ;)

DM-Salsa |

No worries, Grob. 'Tis the season and all that. I'll probably not be posting much Wednesday or Thursday next week. I've got to drive about 90-something miles to the univeristy I work for on Thursday, and I need to cook a couple of pies for the potluck the institute I work for is having.
Thanks for getting these to me. I appreciate it.
And don't worry, my less socially inclined characters, we're about to get to the dungeon delving part of this adventure.

Betzolte Ironhame |

Just to clarify, Maidie, are you recommending I switch out color spray for another casting of grease or enlarge person? My spellbook is kind of limited...

DM-Salsa |

Wanted to let you know I'm working on the next post, and well, this is proving to be bigger than I'd originally thought it was going to be. Goal is to have it up this weekend, but I'm not sure if I can manage that.
On the plus side, I think the wait will be worth it. At least, I hope it will. :D

Maidie Henrod |

Just to clarify, Maidie, are you recommending I switch out color spray for another casting of grease or enlarge person? My spellbook is kind of limited...
Maidie is merely pointing out that a spell that does not work on mindless targets is less useful if we have a high chance of coming up against skeletons or zombies. And Betzolte can still cast it via her bonded object in a pinch.
Both grease and enlarge would certainly be useful. If you add Betzoltes full spellbok to your character sheet, I’d be happy to offer advice, either in or out of character.

DM-Salsa |

Okay, after thinking about it some, I'm breaking up the post I'm working on so everything has a chance to breath and everyone has a chance to react. This also helps me out because now I can take the time I need to work on the part that was making this next post so huge and do what I have in mind justice.
That said, could everyone do me a favor and put in a section on your character sheets with their friends and family? I know that some of you have sent it to me before in PMs, but Paizo's PM system is honestly pretty bad when it comes to finding stuff. This will help me out a bunch and make it easier for me to incorporate things that are a part of your character's background into the game. It's a win-win!
So all of that said, I'll have a post up in a little bit that will get things moving along again, even if at a slower pace than what I had intended.

DM-Salsa |

A highlighted area would be great! I know some did put it in the 20 questions, like you did, but a section for that would be awesome.

Thank you for reminding me that the spells on my sheet aren't the totality of my spellbook! Posting that now.
Betzolte has swapped out Color Spray for Protection from Evil, and prepares Disrupt Undead as a cantrip, which as a necromancy spell, takes up two slots so she no longer has Read Magic and Prestidigitation prepped.
EDIT: GM, question about the friends and family bit. Do we need to include each other? Otherwise most of this section is just her parents and Holgast, because the rest of her friends are the other PCs.

Casina Brochus |

Playing catch up. I had to pick my son up from school Friday morning. He tested positive for Strep Throat Saturday afternoon.

DM-Salsa |

Hope he's feeling better.
On a side note, one of the weird things about playing multiple games with the same one or two people is that if something happens you either repeat yourself a bunch or looking like you don't care in your other games.

I have thought the same thing before lol.
"Like, I already said something! Now it feels disingenuous."

DM-Salsa |

No kidding. Glad to hear he's feeling better, as for the other thing you mentioned in the Curse of the Crimson Throne game, that must have been "fun."

Maidie Henrod |

Best wishes to the kiddo and the redt of the family.
And I must say, Angry Defiant is a refreshing change from the usual Lawful Stupid paladin variant.

Casina Brochus |

I spit on Lawful Stupid!
I'm trying to play up the fact that Casina is young and she's hurt and she's scared.

Casina Brochus |

Also, it helps that I trust our GM enough to not turn around and say "Oh? Your pally got angry and yelled at someone? That's not very paladin like behavior."

Maidie Henrod |

Ah yes, the always fun “congratulations on becoming a fighter without the bonus feats”-conversation.

DM-Salsa |

Wow Casina, that's some powerful stuff. I loved the bits you added about the dress and the jokes.
Best wishes to the kiddo and the redt of the family.
And I must say, Angry Defiant is a refreshing change from the usual Lawful Stupid paladin variant.
Agreed, it's definitely an interesting take, but I haven't really run across any of the lawful stupid paladins, nor have I played any myself.
First paladin I played was in Tomb of the Iron Medusa, and while I was very stupid, I wasn't lawful stupid, at least I don't think I was. My second paladin was in a game that didn't last long, so not a lot of time to develop her. My third one was probably my favorite character. She was a runaway noble trying to get out from under her stepmother's thumb. There was some quirkiness at first, but then something clicked and she was awesome to play. She always had a hard time dealing with loss, betrayal, or killing people. I played a stoner paladin in a oneshot, he kept raving about the pixies, man. I'm currently playing a Paladin of Shelyn that's sweet, naive, and very, very much in doubt about her own skill and capabilities in a Curse of the Crimson Throne game that Casina's player is also in.

DM-Salsa |

Also, it helps that I trust our GM enough to not turn around and say "Oh? Your pally got angry and yelled at someone? That's not very paladin like behavior."
Probably helps that you also know how I play a paladin. :D
Generally, I'll give you a pretty big warning sign that you're about to stray into un-paladin like territory that your deity won't like or tolerate for long. As long as you don't do something really egregious, like slaughtering orphans and cooking them into pies, then I tend to be pretty lenient. Getting emotional when a jackass accuses you of killing your father? That's just being human. Even punching his lights out wouldn't have been too far out of line, if I'm being honest.
