Ah yes, the always fun “congratulations on becoming a fighter without the bonus feats”-conversation.
Oh, that had an addendum. It's now the "congratulations on becoming a Vindictive Bastard" conversation lol
Let's open it!
My opinion is that a Paladin is trying to be a paragon. Sometimes they stumble and that's okay. As long as they intentionally don't break any tenets of their belief.

The can was already open! :)
To mix metaphors... I might be stirring it a little bit.
Moon didn't hear the previous exchange but based solely on what Casina said it's clear Roldare pushed the big red 'dead parent' button. That's pretty much asking to get decked, IMO.

Wow Casina, that's some powerful stuff. I loved the bits you added about the dress and the jokes.
I've seen you RP. I knew I could take some liberties.

Betzolte leans in a little closer to Gerol.
"Meep also mentioned that Chief Hosskill told her she'd 'killed his favorite mate,' and that's why he bullied her worst out of all the tribe. What that leads me to believe is...Meep may be Hosskill's daughter, and her mom died in childbirth," she tells him quietly.
I was hoping someone would catch that. :D

I freely admit to milking the traumatic backgrounds of my fellow PCs and NPCs for all it’s worth.
Now dry your eyes and call your mom.

That makes her more adorable: she's not just any ol' goblin but a goblin PRINCESS!

That does it! We won’t rest until we restore Meep to her rightful station as matriarch of the goblins and watch as she leads the tribe to unpresidented prosperity through her superior ability to handle emotional trauma in a mature and productive way.
As I was just telling our esteemed GM on Discord, if we keep being this wholesome, I half expect us to clear the crypt by leading the undead in a group discussion about the inherent unfairness of their souls being denied their rightful judgement in front of Pharasma, thereby helping them overcome the trauma that binds them to the material world.
Curse this campaign and it’s cruel journey of emotional growth.

GM, scrap all your plans! The campaign just became about getting Meep in power!

“Welcome to Kassen: Home of the Haunted Crypts and Goblinoid Regime Change!”
For our follow-up act, we’ll pivot into the Ironfang Invasion (we are even in the right part of Golarion) and wrap the whole conflict up halfway into the first book.
“Of course we recognize that hobgoblins have a right to an autonomous homeland, as long as you agree to peaceful co-existance with your neighbours. How does a nice alliance of independent city states sound? Wonderful, then let’s move on to the celebration feast!”
DM-Salsa |
Welp, I think this is a sign that I've gotten to the point that I can improv a campaign if I need to. :D
DM-Salsa |
No worries about being behind. I finally got that monster post done. Holy cow! Remind me that if I'm going to do that again, do it before the adventure starts! That's probably the most time I have ever put into a post. I'm just happy that it's up and y'all get to enjoy the goody bag I've made for each of you.
A note on how I did this. Because Bimbur and Moon both started with the Rich Parents trait, I gave myself a budget of about 1000 GP. For everyone else, I gave myself a budget of 1500 GP. This does technically put you all at above WBL, but I don't think that is going to break the bank, and now everyone should be fairly close in terms of wealth.
And yes, this is why I was asking about what you wanted for your characters.
So yeah. Hope y'all enjoy it. I'm going to give y'all a little time to get sheets updated and react to the letters and all of that.
I did have a bit that I wanted to do with Meep and Maidie, but I think after the kind of night and day she's had, she's probably exhausted, so that'll just have to wait. :3
Anyway, forgive the babbling. I have had too much caffeine today, apparently.

Spells for Betzolte and Maidie that I almost forgot to include.
School transmutation; Level bard 0, sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, F (a bit of down or fluff)
Range personal or close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target you or one willing creature or one object (total weight up to 50 lbs./level)
Duration 1 min./level
Saving Throw none; SR no
Float allows you to hover, weightless, above any surface at a distance of about 1 ft. You may be moved by wind or you may use a pole or other means to propel yourself in any direction. Doing so is a move action and generally provides a movement rate of 5 ft. A floating creature that attacks with a melee or ranged weapon finds itself increasingly unstable; the first attack has a –1 penalty on attack rolls, the second –2, and so on, to a maximum penalty of –5. A full round spent stabilizing allows the creature to begin again at –1 penalty to attack. A float spell does not lift a creature high enough to provide a higher ground bonus. Float does not reduce or negate falling damage in any way. Creatures stepping into a pit or off a cliff fall normally, and stop suddenly 1 ft. sooner than they would otherwise.
School transmutation; Level sorcerer/wizard 0, witch 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, F (a cricket’s leg)
Range personal or close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target you or one willing creature
Duration 1 round
Saving Throw none; SR no
The subject gets a +5 enhancement bonus on Acrobatics checks made to attempt high jumps or long jumps. The enhancement bonus increases to +10 at caster level 5th, and to +15 (the maximum) at caster level 9th.
School transmutation; Level cleric/oracle 1, sorcerer/
wizard 1
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range personal
Target you
Duration 1 round (until the end of the caster’s next turn
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); SR yes (harmless)
A surge of magic makes you stronger. The spell grants a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength, adding the usual benefits to melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, and other uses of the Strength modifier for one round.
School conjuration (creation) [water]; Level sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target one creature or object of size Large or smaller
Duration 1 round
Saving Throw Reflex negates (object); SR yes (object)
A sudden downpour soaks the target creature or object. The rain follows the subject up to the range of the spell, soaking the target with water. If the target is on fire, the flames are automatically extinguished. Fires smaller than campfires (such as lanterns and torches) are automatically extinguished by this spell.
School conjuration (creation); Level sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target one hook, branch, stone, or protrusion
Duration 1 round/level
Saving Throw Reflex negates (object); SR yes (object)
A rope you hold coils to a fixed point and ties itself there. The rope can be commanded to tie or untie itself during the spell’s duration as a standard action; if left knotted on the final round, the knot or knots remain at the end of the spell.
School conjuration [force, ink]; Level sorcerer/wizard 1
Components S, M; see text
Casting Time 1 standard action
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect one 5-ft.-by-5-ft. glyph
Duration 10 min./level
Saving Throw none; SR yes; see text
You sketch a 5-ft.-by-5-ft. string of translucent arcane symbols on any surface. Doing so brings a Tiny construct to life to act as a guard, scout, or trap. The cipher can straighten out and move like a snake,
squeezing through openings that only tiny sized creatures may fit. A harrying cipher has the following statistics:
Harrying Cipher
N Tiny construct
Init +3; Senses darkvision 60 ft.,
low-light vision; Perception +0
DEFENSE
AC 15 (+3 Dex, +2 size), touch 15, flat-footed 12
hp 6 (1d10 + 1hp per caster level)
Fort +0, Ref +3, Will +0
Immune construct traits
OFFENSE
Speed 20 ft.
Melee jolt +3 (1d4+1 nonlethal damage)
Space 2 ½ ft.; Reach 2 ½ ft.
Special Attacks jolt, trip
STATISTICS
Str 12, Dex 16, Con 0, Int 0, Wis 10, Cha 1
Base Atk +0; CMB -1 (+1 to trip); CMD 12 (14 vs Trip)
Feats Improved Trip
Skills Stealth +19; Racial Modifier +8 to Stealth
A harrying cipher can deliver a jolt of force during melee that causes nonlethal damage. It may trip a Medium or smaller sized creature by wrapping itself around their legs; when it succeeds with a jolt attack, it can attempt to trip the opponent as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot attempt to trip the harrying cipher. Creatures receive a Reflex save against all jolt attacks.
You cannot see or hear what the cipher sees, but the cipher can report back to you and answer very simple questions (regarding number, distance, etc.) by rearranging its wording and allowing you to read the answer, if you instructed the cipher to seek out this information. A harrying cipher can perform only one simple task or answer one simple question at time. (If scouting for enemies, for example, a cipher could report back how many beings it saw, but it could not report their distance from the doorway unless sent to scout a second time.)
A harrying cipher moves to the limit of the spell’s range and then waits for you, its master. Ciphers forced beyond this range wink out of existence.
Use of illusory script in conjunction produces an invisible
cipher construct.
This spell’s material component is ink to sketch the
cipher mixed with your own fresh blood, which deals 3 hp damage to you. This damage cannot be healed as long as the cipher exists.

Grobradon wakes everyone up.. they open the crypt and there...
they see a dozen kobolds all wearing bow ties, crying out in common and draconic "Hello, we'd like to talk to you about your chariot's extended warranty"
DM-Salsa |
That's hilarious and if I wasn't going for something at least semi-serious, I'd be stealing that for later.
DM-Salsa |
Forty-five feet to the north. The temperature is about 35 Fahrenheit or 1.33 Celcius. Very cold stream indeed if the stench of rotting flesh doesn't work. :P
I'm going to be completely honest, I was not expecting Moon to basically tell Grobradon "Hey Sexy, wanna help keep me warm? *wink*" Methinks the lady doth have a crush.
Moon Akechi |
If this weren't a PG game, this fight could have gone totally like THIS.
LMAO

DM-Salsa wrote:Methinks the lady doth have a crush. What? NO! YOU have a crush!
Ah, so we're going with Tsundere in denial. A classic. I'll fix some popcorn. ;)
On another note, time for the first round, and I think I'll pull the curtain back just a little. The module as written has the townsfolk that come in get slaughtered before the party arrives, save for two survivors, Roldare and Dimira. I threw in the shortcut because I thought it'd be fun to give y'all a chance to arrive before the ambush and save the townsfolk.
That said, I should have probably planned this better because this makes two nights in a row I've sprung ambushes on y'all and I still remember the issues I had the last time I ran a Pathfinder game with goblins getting the drop on the party a lot in Brinestump. That was my fault and I would love to not repeat that mistake if I can help it.
Maidie Henrod |
It's so nice to see you two lovebirds take the time to learn new languages and talk about your feelings.
With Moon staking her claim for the only warm-blooded male in the group who's not either married, a dwarven warrior monk or a total bastard, it might be time for Maidie to discover her bi-curious side. Or get a little rivalry going.
In the mean time, survival is a bit higher on her list of priorities than gettting laid.
And as a 1st level wizard who has already cast one of her spells, let me be the first to issue a resounding "oh joy!" at the prospect of the coming fight. That Pearl of Power is sure going to come in handy.

Tactical question, Salsa, where are the exits to the various tents? Is there a problematic height difference between the ground and steps/entryway to the crypt?
DM-Salsa |
Oh, yeah, tent flap locations might be important. I've marked them with little diamonds. The entryway platform is about six feet higher than the ground level. Let's say DC 10 Acrobatics or Climb check to get up there without taking a move action and it costs 15 feet of movement. Can get up there with no check as a move action that provokes attacks of opportunity.
Casina Brochus |
With the adjustment for my actions, I'll just make my way out the tent flap.
Do we have to drop down or climb up to get out? My brain is struggling on that.
Edit: As soon as I posted I understood. Nvm.
DM-Salsa |
Just in case anyone else is confused, the thick black line is the edge of the top of the cliff. The part of the map in blue is under the cliff. The platform with pillars leads to the entrance that the zombies came out of. It's six feet taller than the floor of the ravine that the tents are set up on. The entrances to the tents are marked by diamonds in the outside squares.
And to explain the ruling with Casina, I'm ruling that you can pick up an item as you get up. It just makes more sense to me.to do it that way and I don't think the extra action y'all get is going to break the game.
Hope this helps.
Moon Akechi |
Cue the zombie dance routine!
Betzolte Ironhame |
Sorry it took so long to reply! Been a real busy week.
This may be a bad idea, but could Betzolte cut her way out of the tent using her new dagger? She can't wear her new armor and use her new axe until she levels up.
DM-Salsa |
That's fine with me. And no worries. I know that this time of year is taxing for a lot of people.
Maidie Henrod |
I'll give Bimbur and the NPCs a chance to act before taking Maidie's next action.
I'm assuming I have my spell components pouch in my belt, but that all other gear is still by my bedroll.
Oh, and those of you with Knowledge (religion) might want to make a knowledge check. Those crossbows are unfortunately the least effective weapons against both skeletons and zombies.
DM-Salsa |
Hey all, I have heard from Bimbur's player, and the news isn't good. He will be pulling out and it is currently unknown if/when he will return. He did tell me to let y'all know what's up. His wife was recently diagnosed with AML (Leukemia) and he hasn't been able to focus on any of the games he's in.
I'm praying for both of them. I know it's hard watching someone you love suffer. I've already let Chainmail know that he'll have a seat here if and when he is ready to come back.
I'll bot Bimbur in the meantime, and he'll be heading out with Gerol's group when they leave.
Maidie Henrod |
Damn, I’m truly sorry to hear that.
I’m a cancer survivor myself and that disease is hell on both patient and family. Give him my best wishes.
