Irizati Grunyar |
Not seeing the target any longer Irizati just moves closer. Baloo and the Ettin just delay.
The Ettin lasts 9 rounds total. Not sure how many are left.
Irizati Grunyar |
Not by me. We don't know by sight where she went.
GM Aerondor |
Everone would have seen her turn down the side sewer, as the tentacles were gone... enabling her to escape.
Silgil |
Upon seeing the confusion, Silgil calls out "She went this way!"
Pietro Slaszval the Boisterous |
Hearing all the shouts Pietro mutters to himself "THAT'S NOT REALLY THE MISSION." as he heads off to find the missing Rift-Somethings-or-Another.
"HAS ANYONE SEEN A LITTLE TALDAN FELLOW NAMED GERRARD!? HE'S ABOUT SO TALL AND HIS HANDS ARE A BIT GIMPY."
Irizati Grunyar |
[Oh. I thought she D-Doored again. In that case Baloo and the Ettin will both double move to follow her.
GM Aerondor |
She continues to flee down the tunnel.
We are off map. But as the Etin is faster than her, it could close to within striking range so that even if she used a withdraw action, it would still get an AOO on her.
Meanbwhile Pietro calls back to the various cells. There are numerous cries from within, although the doors are generally locked. The Taldane man man you rescued from upstairs is near the bottom of the stairs waiting for you.

"THERE YOU ARE! SOME ALDORI RIFT KNIGHT YOU ARE! COME ON! LEND A HAN-err AN EYE TO HELP FIND YOUR FRIENDS! YOU'VE STILL GOT A TONGUE! WHAT EVEN ARE THEIR NAMES? MUST I DO EVERYTHING!?" shouts the cleric exhorting the wizard to help (since he plainly wasn't getting anywhere with anyone else).

sorry? Aren't we supposed to rescue the Riftwardens?

I think that was his point. We should just rescue the wardens instead of chasing after the trouble-maker.
Seeing that he is leaving behind the others, and doing a mental inventory of his spells, Silgil realizes there is not much he can do. The worman obviously has a freedom of movement spell up so there is no way for him to stop her, she has a shield spell up so his missiles are pointless, and even a well placed acid arrow simply missed. Obviously well protected by spells. So he just slows down and observes as the ettin gives chase.
Just keeping pace with her, staying back about 40', to see if the ettin is able to KO her.

That and Pietro isn't really built for highspeed footchases. WISDOM!
GM Aerondor |
Your already-rescued rift warden starts to look through the cell windows.
"Perhaps if you start opening all the doors... my eyesight is not as good as it once was." he suggests to Pietro.
Pietro Slaszval the Boisterous |
Pietro is brought up short. "YOU DON'T REMEMBER YOUR FRIENDS' NAMES!?"
GM Aerondor |
The crippled rift warden sighs "They are Imaga, Mikael and Jahani. But they might not be in a condition to answer. And others may answer to their names in hope of rescue."
Irizati Grunyar |
aoo from Ettin inc PA: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
blugoning: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 4) + 12 = 20

With no other orders the Ettin charges her.

blugoning: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (1, 6) + 12 = 19
Baloo and Irizati follow the rest of the party.
GM Aerondor |
Ettin and woman continue their battle Off stage to the rest of us as the rest of the party returns to the main dungeon area to try and find their missing rift wardens.
And we can go out of rounds at this stage. Ettin won't be returning, whether due to spell expiry or death, who knows.
What is your strategy for finding the rift wardens. You have only been in the comprex as a whole for about seven minutes at this stage, although it certainly seems longer.
Silgil |
Remember that Silgil pursued the combatants and is observing their battle.
GM Aerondor |
Silgil continues to watch from a safe distance as the Ettin delivers strong strokes to the woman. She avoids some but not all, concentrating on her defences
attacks: 2d20 ⇒ (8, 18) = 26
damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 1) + 12 = 18
It manages to land a final blow before vanishing. But that was enough, the woman falls to the ground, unmoving.
Silgil |
Silgil approaches the woman and casts a detect magic, hunting for treasure. He is also looking carefully to make sure she is not regenerating, because if she is, he's going to clock her.
Are the others out of calling range?
GM Aerondor |
The others are out of calling range.
Her body lights up like a Christsmas tree. Rod, potion, scrolls and a wand she forgot she could use. <sigh> Did I mention a spellbook... one of them too.
Silgil |
Of the items, the spellbook has Silgil the most excited. Rather than dig through the items and catalog them all, he begins the arduous task of dragging the body back to the group.
Looks like Silgil might be getting a pit spell added to his book. Nice.
Pietro Slaszval the Boisterous |
The crippled rift warden sighs "They are Imaga, Mikael and Jahani. But they might not be in a condition to answer. And others may answer to their names in hope of rescue."
"AND YOU WOULD LEAVE THEM TO ROT, WOULD YOU?" Pietro looks about ready to punt this Bellflower Consortium wanker through the stone ceiling.
"IMAGA!?"
GM Aerondor |
"Ahh... no.." say the crippled mage, somewhat confused.
"That was why I was asking you to open their doors. In your own manner."
Not that is says it, but see no reason not to have a key.
Silgil |
Huffing and puffing, Silgil's presence is first announced by the scraping sound of a body being dragged, then the labored breathing, and then a final "Got something for you." as he dumps the body and pulls out his spellbook.
As the others argue over opening the cell, he prepares an identify spell with his open slot. Then he casts detect magic to identify the items.
spellcraft on Rod: 1d20 + 14 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 10 = 33
spellcraft on potion: 1d20 + 14 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 14 + 10 = 29
spellcraft on wand: 1d20 + 14 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 14 + 10 = 34
And finally, read magic to unlock the scrolls and, hopefully, spellbook.
GM Aerondor |
The rod is a lesser silent metamagic rod, while the wands are clariaudience and mirror image. The potion is cure moderate wounds. Just a pity she didn't get time to drink it.
And a few other odds and sods that appear on the chronicle.
Grog half orc |
if there's a key Grog will start opening the cells
"Come on guys let's get out of here!" he cries to the slaves and Riftwardens.
He turns to Pietro. "You ready big buy?"
GM Aerondor |
As you start to release the slaves, your ally eventually discovers his three companions. One being the unfortunate figure being questioned by the woman in red when you first arrived.
Each has been crippled in some way, fingers broken or tongue removed. It will be a long and hard road to heal them.
That done, you can start to head back up the stairs when you can make out the sound of loud voices from above. It seems that law enforcement has arrived. The relevant question being... whether you want to face them or slip off through the sewers...
Pietro Slaszval the Boisterous |
There's a sound like conga drums, and tiny cloud of smoke, and Pietro is suddenly gone in the direction of the sewers.
Silgil |
After stuffing all the magic he can grab in his bag of holding he sets off. And coins. He is a dwarf after all and not the one to buck the stereotype.
Hearing the guard arrive and his bag full of stolen goodies, he has no interest in discussing the legality of things with the po-po. With wonks like them, you can do everything perfectly and still end up in jail. Though not as fast a Pietro, Silgil also does the vanishing act.
GM Aerondor |
You take your rescued riftwardens and head for the sewers. A number of the freed slaves also try to follow you. Some with more success than others.
On the surface, Jahani (the rift warden being "interviewed" by the woman in red) leads you to her home where you can all rest and recover. They put in place legal and... other.. plans to ensure the Blackfire Adepts cannot return to the city. Perhaps most importantly she writes a letter to VC Obo thanking him for your help and offering support in the future.
