#4-20: Words of the Ancients [Tier 10-11] - GM Rutseg (Inactive)

On support of NostalgiaCon I will GM the scenario #4-20: Words of the Ancients, a Tier 7-11 adventure. A simple and fun dungeon crawl with a balance between roleplaying and combat encounters.

After countless divinations and the efforts of undercover agents throughout Varisia, the Pathfinder Society has discovered the location of the last component needed to awaken a sleeping runelord. In a mad dash to beat the cult of Lissala to this ancient Thassilonian ruin, the Pathfinders must do whatever it takes to ensure they and not the evil cultists acquire the power within. But the arcane components are not unguarded, and even after 10,000 years, the cost of ensuring the safety of the region could be higher than the veteran adventurers are prepared or willing to pay.

Seating I will choose 4 players (up to 6 if there is overwhelming interest), giving priority to people who has had less chances to play PbP, who have GMed for me in the past and who has a history of interacting with other PCs and roleplaying their character.

Start Date 10th of January 2022 (I might delay one week because of other stuff that month)

Posting frequency: At least 1 post every 2 days. I will probably go ahead if a day has passed and everyone else has already posted though.

Core/Normal: I am open to GM this as Core if there is enough interest, but my initial guess is it will be a Normal campaign.

Pregens: I will accept pregens, but will give priority to other characters.

GMing style: I make passive rolls, as Perception, Initiative or Saves. GM bots may happen, but more usually I skip the player turn and give you an extra round of actions for when you are able to post.

Mapping tools: You are expected to have access to view (and preferably edit) Google Slides maps.

Player responsiveness: I expect you to have initiative as a player, pushing the game to explore and interact, not just reacting to the GM initiative rolling and direct questions for what is next.

Do not be shy if you have little or no PbP experience. PFS Scenarios are a good place to start!

Definitely interested in this one! I had a blast playing this character in her previous pbp game (it's been awhile... about 3 1/2 years in fact) with GM Cwethan. Feel free to check out her post history, but yeah I do get into the whole dynamic of the storytelling that pbp allows - both with the other players and the GM's NPCs.

Rhiannon is a LG Paladin (4)/Warpriest (6) of Ragathiel. She belongs to the Silver Crusade faction.

I would definitely be interested in this myself (it's one of the relatively-few scenarios I haven't played.)

Athelstan is a level 10 holy warrior of Aroden. He too is Lawful Good, but is part of the Dark Archive faction. He's not your typical faction member, though... mostly, he's there because someone needs to keep an eye on Zarta, and her usual people maybe aren't the best choices for that. He's earned the trust of the Silver Crusade (boon giving him their faction card as well), and frankly would prefer working with them more, but duty calls.

His faithful steed Duncan may show up, terrain permitting.

Athelstan wields a longsword (being Aroden's favored weapon), carries a shield bearing the image of the winged eye, and wears gleaming mithral full plate. He is skilled at Diplomacy +21, Sense Motive +16 or +17, and Knowledge (Religion) +15 or +17, along with some other talents. He speaks several languages, including Varisian, but not Thassilonian. He does, however, have an unused wand of Comprehend Languages if it comes to that.

If chosen, I've got a list of questions and clarifications (including character build) for the GM.

I'd been keen to get my "caveman shaman", Gurkagh in on this. Gurkagh is a fun character to roleplay, as he has a unique way of looking at things. He's a Level 11 shaman. (PFS #: 238544-2)

I certainly am not new to PbP, but I would be happy to play this if there is an opening.

Ranalus is my -1, a Feysworn of Count Ranalc. He is a generalist with great Perception, 5th-level cleric spells, and numerous abilities that are situationally useful.

Sadly, my Aroden Reincarnated PC is only 7th level and will be busy in Boneekeep. It would be fun to have him alongside Athelstan.

I'll play, but I'll have to use a pregen, so priority to others goes first. I'll play the fighter.

I am interested in this game. I'd be playing a sapling treant with a level 11 druid following her around. No low subtier characters available, so feel free to boot me if you don't want me playing down (I don't mind, but know that can cause problems for others).

If it helps round out the party, I could leave Athelstan at home and bring a different PC.

I've got a level 9 skillmonkey shaman (disable device, all knowledges ranging from +9 to +18 with free inspiration, and situationally absurd social skills). She's not much good with physical combat any more, as her fighting years are far behind her, but the kids just love her (and she has spells, which helps in the field.) Her spirit animal is a parrot whose native language is "Elder Thing." She's also got the ability to identify whatever magic loot we find, which may or may not be something these PCs are lacking.

EDIT: Info for that character is over here. I didn't want to post this as that character for fear of the GM thinking she and Athelstan were from two separate players.

I have a few options for this.

Hunter 9: Mounted on a narrow frame rhino. Lots of aoos via Broken Wing Gambit.
Lunar Oracle 9: Has a tiger animal companion. Not a dedicated healer but has some useful spells.
Slayer 10: Archer with rogue skills.
Unchained Monk 10: Lots of attacks or greater grapple depending on the situation.
Alchemist 11: Not sure on this, He might have hit level 12, I'll have to double check. Bomb thrower.

I have a couple of characters in range:

Level 9: Tiefling Cardcaster Magus (like Gambit, but not as cool)
level 9: Wayang Inveti/Rog (Skills and melee dps)

I find mechanics that require a lot of back and forth or instant feedback are better left for real-time tables to avoid impacting the PbP pace. But all the other options seem fine to me, just play with whatever you prefer.

I am still a bit doubtful about the final group. I will announce the final list after the weekend. Meanwhile, someone applying might still have chances to make it in ;)

NostalgiaCon 2021 - Scenario Listings suggest there might be open seats in this game. Are there any spots left in this scenario for a lvl 10 wizard..?
