Please also describe any planned lulls in availability you have for the next 8 weeks or so, including whether you're free to start before PaizoCon begins on Friday.

I'll go first: I'm going on vacation mid-July, and while I will have Internet access, I'd prefer not to be doing a lot on Google Slides, which has been problematic the past few times I've been in similar locales. My goal is to finish the game before then; if we can't, I will likely pause the game or restrict the game to text-only posts until I can get back to urban-level upload speeds.

I'll be playing at PaizoCon here and there, but not much. I'm not GMing at PaizoCon at all.

This is no longer a requirement.

You're expected to keep an auditable record, but a wide variety of formats are now acceptable. One way is to keep doing it as before - I am happy to mark the purchase on your Chronicle, and I can add beginning and ending GP/XP as necessary (they were removed from the Season 2 Chronicles) if a binder/folder of Chronicles is your preferred record. But you are also free to just track it in Herolab or Pathbuilder or an Excel sheet or even a handwritten piece of paper, as long as you are honest about it.

Random rules tidbit, in case y'all were unaware:

Blinded and flat-footed cause the same AC penalty in PF2.

Nothing in the blinded rules says a creature is flat-footed directly as a result of blinded. It is non-obviously flat-footed to incoming attacks through the senses rules - when blinded, it loses a precise sense and all creatures become hidden to it, causing it to be flat-footed.

One way to look at it is that blinded does no worse than flat-footed; the other way is that flat-footed is as bad as blinded.

Unless we can attempt the checks untrained... Khaul won't be able to help on those two.

You're generally free to attempt the checks untrained. The usual drawback is that there's a chance of critical failure; being trained is usually enough to keep up with an easy level-based DC, but being untrained usually risks way more critical failure than success.

In PbP, in order to move the game along, I let some stuff slide. Basically, if there's no critical failure penalty listed, I'll just post the positive result in a spoiler and trust players. I commonly do this.

If there's a critical failure, but it's not important, I might put spoilers for each success level separately. I uncommonly do this.

If it's important, I'll usually ask for modifiers and make the rolls myself, and then send out information in spoilers. I commonly do this.

If it's super secret, I'll pull modifiers from your character sheets so you don't even know that the check has been made. I rarely do this.

Itka's only at -4 hp at this point, not -18. So the first heal done by Travis would take her up to full. The second heal spell is unnecessary.

How she got there, if you care:

Starting at full hp = 24
-1 hp bludgeoning from rain = 23 hp
-4 hp bludgeoning from crowd = 19 hp
+8 hp healing potion = 24 hp
(My ooc note stating that she was down 9 hp was incorrect; I had mistakenly applied the -4 hp from the crowd twice.
-4 hp electrical damage = 20 hp
+6 hp from Travi's first heal spell = 24 hp

(he/him) | Troubles in Otari | 2-17 | | Icons: ◆◇↺

I must have applied something twice as well (and likely missed the healing potion). I'm not going to audit any more, this is fine. Travis gets a heal spell back, and Itka's at full.

For future reference, when voting on something sensitive like permission to deal damage, please PM me rather than posting it in-character. PFS rules formally prohibit harming each other, so this is something where everyone needs to actively opt in.

With Khaul and Zelphari publicly giving permission, now if someone vetoes, it's Bina by process of elimination, and there could be pressure on her to accept something she's not comfortable with.

If you have played with me before, I'll admit that I used to do things differently. But, I've seen a non-zero number of refusals, all done by secret vote, leading me to suspect that when the vote is not secret, there are some people that are agreeing under duress.

Please be aware that not everyone is going to give permission. I know in this case, it's just 1 splash damage, but later on with Calculated Splash, it becomes 4. The same phenomenon also shows up with AoE spells (burning hands, fireball, etc), so I just want to emphasize the importance of the process, rather than the importance of the result.

The no PVP rule is wonderful (been on the both ends of "my character would commit violence against yours"), but the last game I was in where a vote was required, it was fully secret and someone said no. I should have realized that and suggested players go to the GM in my original post instead of just throwing it out there. My apologies.

I never have been in a situation where a vote like this came up, but I am not sure I thought of splash damage as PVP either. There are all kinds of ways something can go bad and end up injuring the group - does this mean any actions with this as a possible outcome are not allowed?

I agree with the PM approach, though - not that I think it would sway me any, but I can see how others could feel they don't have much of a choice.

Since I am not in the strike zone, I don't think you would need a vote from me anyway here.

Travis Proudfoot wrote:

It's more a matter of intention. Let's say a rogue attempts to disable a trap, and it explodes, catching everyone in its radius. That wasn't the intended outcome, and wouldn't be covered by the rule. But for an alchemist splashing or a spellcaster dropping an AoE effect, catching allies (even for a little bit) is the intended outcome, so it's covered by the rule.

Being intentional doesn't necessarily mean it's disallowed. Players can make universal decisions or one-off, situational decisions, e.g., a fighter can agree to be fireballed if they're surrounded by 3 strong enemies with fire weakness, but not agree to be fireballed if they're fighting 1-on-1 with an enemy they can handle.

The PFS rule basically means that players have to opt in to intentional damage. That is, by default, it's not allowed. And while the majority of players will agree to minor splash damage from alchemist bombs, I don't want to assume. Also, some character options give elemental weaknesses, and I definitely want to avoid discussions like "I would agree to 1 damage but 3 damage is too much" which just ends up putting people in awkward positions.
