Oh, that's bad. I don't really have Disable Device; it's trained only and I just have a racial bonus. Still have next to no chance of breaking the south door, so...
Now reminded that the team is shut in the room, Uaine tries to haul Surely that way. His last hope might be that this one is unlocked. Before she's even halfway there, however, she has to drop to the floor and brace for another salvo of arrows.
Another move action, then going prone.
GM Jhaeman |
With T'Shar dead and her other three companions unconscious, only Uaine has a chance at escape! She drags Surely toward the far door and then dives for cover as the pillar begins firing more arrows!
Steppinwolf is attacked by one arrow and hit for 2 damage. Uaine is attacked by one arrow which she automatically blocks with Deflect arrows. Surely is attacked by one arrow and hit for 1 damage. Ao is attacked by 3 arrows and hit by one for 7 damage.

Uaine Altimari |
Uaine scrambles back to her feet, getting Surely and herself precious inches closer to safety(?) before having to hit the deck again.
Stand, move half speed with Surely, drop again.
GM Jhaeman |
The pillar sends out another round of arrows!
Steppinwolf is targeted by 4 arrows and all four hit (one for a crit), taking a total of 28 nonlethal damage. Surely is targeted by 4 arrows and all four hit, taking a total of 18 nonlethal damage. Ao is targeted by 3 arrows, but they all miss. Uaine is targeted by 2 arrows but they both miss.

I've got one as well, plus a few more spells.
From the ground, Uaine channels a fair bit of rage into checking whether the door next to her will open easily. Either way, she then makes her way back towards Ao, not bothering to stand back up.
Opening or trying to open the door as a move, then crawling.
GM Jhaeman |
Uaine is able to push the eastern door open easily, but it then swings back closed. As she crawls back into the room, the pillar continues firing arrows!
The eastern door will automatically close after opening unless it is blocked. Please note that the arrows can travel through the doorway if it is left open. It looks like the pillar has exhausted about half of its ammunition supply.
I know T'Shar and Surely are dead. I'm not sure about Steppinwolf and Ao, so I'll go ahead and roll just in case.
Steppinwolf is targeted by two arrows and is it by one of them for 4 nonlethal damage. Ao is targeted by three arrows, hit by two of them (one a crit) and takes 19 nonlethal damage. Uaine is targeted by one arrow (luck holds!) and can automatically swat it away.

Uaine Altimari |
Uaine decides to give Ao a preliminary patching-up before dragging him to safety. Unfortunately, she's just too far away to manage it before the next volley hits.
Stand, move, drop. It'd probably take an action better spent healing or dragging, but can I give Ao some sort of cover?
GM Jhaeman |
Uaine, I'm going to pause your action because I think Ao is dead. Ao, are you with us to confirm? My calculations are below.
Round 1: 15 nl damage
Healed 1 by channel
Healed 7 by lay on hands
Result: 7 nl
Round 2: 23 damage
Result:20 nonlethal, 10/20 hp
Round 3: 7 damage
Result: 3/20 hp
Round 4: no damage
Result: 3/20 hp
Round 5: 19 damage
Result: -16 hp (Con is 14)
Uaine Altimari |
At this point, it's all Uaine can do to open the door again and let it slam shut, waiting for the constant thunking of arrows against walls and their intended targets to stop. She prays and curses all the while.
Uaine Altimari |
Sighing heavily, Uaine tries to get back into the room. But I assume I'll have to go back around the long way. Once inside, she props the door and starts the long process of hauling everyone closer to the room Roldare has holed up in.
"There's nothing more to be done here for now. I am heading back to Kassen. You want to come with?" The tiefling doesn't offer up any more information unless asked, and even then is going to be cagey with answers.
GM Jhaeman |
Roldare refuses to budge. "My sister! She's here . . . somewhere!"
The long walk back to Kassen passes uneventfully. Cygar, the Venture-Captain who assigned you the mission, is surprised and saddened to learn that Uaine is the only survivor. He's shocked to hear the place is crawling with undead and that several townsfolk had been slain. "It wasn't supposed to be like that! Every year, some fun obstacles are put in the way of the new initiates. Something must have moved in . . . or awakened . . . I'm relieved you made it out, Uaine. We'll send in a more experienced team to deal with the threat. For now, get some rest. You've proven yourself a survivor, and have earned your place in the Society."
That's a wrap--please head over to the Discussion thread for Chronicles.

Uaine plans to do as suggested, but not first thing. Instead she goes to squander any points she won with Cygar. If she can find Mayor Uptal, the tiefling strides over and removes her mask. It's instantly obvious why it was there; her head looks more like a green-skinned brain, complete with most normal facial features. "Properly scout out your 'Harvest Ritual' and inform those actually risking their necks accordingly next time. On the off chance it deserves to continue, that is."
Probably unfair, considering he did mention a risk of death. But with several townsfolk likely scared witless, Uaine takes her leave.
