Zeebu |

Much more comfortable swimming than onboard a moving vessel, the guide and engineer crossed his arms and waited silently and patiently. As the ship finally approached its target, he pulled his crossbow and got ready. We need to equip some siege weaponry at these vessels. Something to consider once we get some weeks to breath., he thought to himself, looking around.

Cordelia Firth |

Cordelia makes a mental note to check out the runes and enchantments on the boat itself later if she gets the chance. While the magic itself would be useful in making the boat go faster, she might learn something that might improve her own magic in the future.
For now though, she is content to stand on an elevated portion of the deck, standing towards the front of the boat if she could as she gazes forward, trying to spot the pirate ship up ahead.

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

With no experience on a ship, Oreana simply stands out of the way alongside her pet crab, wondering if she had not misread the omens.

Shad Ogroshk'ik |

Shad's face had remained unchangeded when the Aquatic Elf, one of his ancient enemies- but now ally, had softly rebuked him for not understanding what was being said.He glanced at Markus who she had mentioned and thought wasnt stealing his idea, just affirming then the Raven had landed on the deck and he had thought instantly of trying to eat it....before the Prince took the message and he thought, now we are underway. May the wind be with us
He hefted his spear leaving his strapped to his side with a loop of woven kelp. He moved to the front of the ship and leaned in the rail, ready to dive into the sea. He glanced around ...he probably was the fastest swimmer here. he wasn't a sailor, but he knew how to kill.
he glanced at the Elf called Cordelia We are allies now. I will Protect you as if you were one of my own eggs then his gaze shifted to the horizon.

Markus Finley |

Markus nods slowly at the frog's excitement. "Yeah, erm, I figured that Billy was an easy enough name to remember. It's common enough amongst humans." Though in this fantasy setting, maybe not so much.
When the big man caught Shad looking at him, Mr.Finley shrugged noncommittally. He wasn't about to get into some argument between peoples he'd only just met. With a sigh, he resigns himself to packing up his dice and preparing for the coming fight. Finding a secluded spot, the priest recites a prayer to his goddess.

Heskavar Stormswimmer |

With the ship now speeding off to attack the spotted pirate ship, Heskavar slides his way towards the center of the main deck. Due to his slow movement rate, he readies himself to move towards whichever part of the ship it looks like will be nearest to the enemy ship if that is how boarding will be done. As he does, he moves over towards the side of the ship, looking down to ensure that the young orca that had bonded to him was still following the ship.
Heskavar would have had his Animal Companion be following the ship, since it can't very well move out of the water.
I decided to do my animal companion as just a part of this character for the time being (in regards to the sheet and combat rolls). I may change that later, but for now that is what I'll do.

Nathaniel the Bull |

Nathaniel rests out of the way. Being from the desert not exactly conducive to sailing, the Shark-kin enjoyed the rolling of the waves and the sharp wind on his face.
Once the order went out to prepare for battle, Nathaniel sighs. He says a silent prayer to the Triune. He takes a long pull from a bottle that looks suspiciously like one from the Drowning Mermaid. He then closes his blue eyes. Within seconds, the not-quite-human looking brute becomes something else entirely!
Ha ha! For real this time
The Shark-kin then joins Shad at the front? Bridge? Port? Isn't that alcohol?.
Well, my friend, looks like we're in the shit now!
He grins a toothy grin!

Prince Cadmael of Oceana |

As you get underway, Prince Cadmael looks at Ganymeades and quietly says, "You've served me well these past ten years, my friend. We've been in this together from the beginning, but I need you out there now. I need to project power, so I'm going to ask you to go with the boarding parties. Don't worry about me, Baris will stay by my side- he's old enough to be retired, but he's still an able guardsman, and I'm handy enough at a trident myself."
Still pending any more Profession (Sailor) rolls

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

You nervously pace the deck as the ship flies through the water. After an hour, you see the tips of the two sails ahead in the distance. Slowly they grow closer and closer, but you can tell, even with the ships still a thousand yards distant that the pirate ship will catch the trader before you arrive.
You watch at the two collide and the pirates haul her in, swarming across to the the merchant vessel.
Another two agonizing minutes go past before you get to within a hundred yards, and the call to launch ships goes up.
This is going to take me a bit to get the entire map set up; I'll kick off combat tomorrow.

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

As you come within range, you get a better look at the pirate ship, her outline and the masthead making it clear what ship this is-- The Blood Queen the ship of the Pirate Queen herself!
You swim, or row, trying to close the distance to the ship as well as possible, bringing yourself into battle for the Empire of Oceana, most of you for the first time.

Round 1 the angles line up that you cannot get effective ranged attacks, but this is the round to cast a minute/level buff spell to last from the start of combat through the first 10 rounds; round 2 you CAN take a ranged attack (including grappling hook if desired)- round 2 the relevant pirates are all reading actions to repel boarders

Nathaniel the Bull |

Round 1 we are 300 feet? And launch boats/swim? What are the boats Speed/round? Round 2 Feet away? Grapples range 10'?
Swim Speed 30 run x4 would take 2 1/2 rounds to get 300', leaving Move Action to climb if some (non swim speeders) work the grapples to allow for Swim Speeders to Climb 10' by end of Round 3.
Ranged folks provide Cover for Climbers.
Nathaniel volunteers to be a boarder. The Were-Shark kin seems eager! The Warpriest of the Triune says a practiced prayer for War!
Standard Action so will wait to see about answers above. Apologies; I happen to enjoy logistics...lol.

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

You start 200 ft away- it's more the hull of the ship blocking site lines from the water line level that prevents ranged attacks initially than range
So the boats will cover 100 ft/round with one person controlling them; swimming I think most are 30, 50, or 60 speed so 50 or 60 speed could cover the distance in four moves as well
Basically round 2 you can wait till the boat gets to the side of the ship.
Sorry, I know this is the kind of set up stuff that happens very quickly in person and takes a while on PbP and if I had anticipated more questions I could have simplified it

Lagrin |

Since Biligup and Grin are the only ones trained in Profession Sailor, I'd like to switch over to boat 1 so each boat has at trained helmsman. Anyone want to switch?
Grin climbs down into one of the launch boats as the ship draws closer to the conflict. There's a splash off the bow as Barret drops into the water to follow, scrabbling up on to the boat shortly after. Grin checks over the boat as the others board and then sets himself up at the tiller. Once they get close enough to launch, he sets the boat moving with practiced ease.
Pr:Sailor Take 10: 10 + 7 = 17

Munir |

""You can stand behind me and I will do my best to keep you safe, comrade."
Munir nods at the grippli's proposition; when the time comes he follows the small amphibian into a rowboat. Understanding that they will have to climb up the sides of their enemy's vessel, he stows his weapons - warhammer at his belt and longspear strapped vertically to his pack, pointing out above his head like a flagpole.
Round 1 - Against the Blood Queen - Initiative 2
Rowboat #2; +1 morale attack and vs fear 10/10 rds remaining
As they draw near the pirate ship, Munir looks to the sun and calls out in prayer.
"Mighty Zailor, grant us courage as we fight in your name!" Despite any private misgivings they may have about the Sun God, Munir's allies aboard the small boat nonetheless feel bolstered by his words.
Casts bless on allies in rowboat #2.
Round 2 - Against the Blood Queen - Initiative 2
Rowboat #2; +1 morale attack and vs fear 9/10 rds remaining
As their craft abuts the pirate vessel and they prepare to board, he steps up between Biligup and Nathaniel. Reaching out to the sun, he gives three quick barks of supplication then points at the pirate directly above the grippli's position. "*YIP!*YIP!*YIP!*" A sudden gust of wind seems to blast at the pirate...
Solar Wind vs touch AC: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 + 1 = 16
+1 morale
Damage, Solar Wind: 1d6 ⇒ 1 fire
If ally/enemy locations change before his initiative, will simply target enemy farthest to the right.

Shad Ogroshk'ik |

Shad grinned as they approached, picking up one of the grapples and coiling the rope so it could be looped over his shoulder crossways. he also paused to load a crossbow bolt dropping the lock to hold the bolt in place as he swam.
Then he waited til they were a couple hundred feet away and with a grin at Nathanial in were-shark form he said Lets Get The Eels and dove over the side, swimming as fast as he could he bobbed to the surface near the front of the ships. In between but not wehre they were closest.
As he came up he pulled his crossbow Readying for a shot as he was still completely submerged near the surface.
placement on map but 5 feet below the surface crossbow in hand. Spear tethered on kelp thong

Nathaniel the Bull |

Round 1
Desperately wanting to join his new cousin, Shad, into the beautiful waters, the Warpriest decides to take advantage of the fast moving boats; trusting in the Grippli's sailing experience.
Soon, my cousin; soon, I shall join you into the blue!
Nathaniel then voices a strong prayer to the Triune; granting him their Divine Favor!
10 Rounds; +1 Morale Attacks and damage
The Shark-kin takes a grappling hook.
Round 2
Advancing quickly to the vessel, Nathaniel smiles a shark-tooth grin. He then voices another prayer to the War gods; receiving their War Blessing!
10 Rounds; choosing +1 dodge this round. AC 16; Divine Favor 9 Rounds; +1 Morale Attacks and damage
The Shark-kin looks up to those waiting for their boarding attempt.

Heskavar Stormswimmer |

Seeing that he would be able to get to the ships faster if he swam himself, Heskavar slips over the side of the wooden vessel he is in. With powerful strokes of his tail, he then shoots off towards the pirate ships. Seeing Shad angling towards the area between the bows of the two ships, he follows the Sahuagin. He stays just below the water's surface, on level with Shad. Following behind him is a small Orca.
Looking at the crossbow in Shad's hand, Heskavar speaks in a low voice to him, in a voice much smoother than when he was above water. "If it works with you, I think I'll follow you up on that rope. It will take me a bit to get up to the deck though."

Cordelia Firth |

Cordelia leaps overboard and swiftly swims over too the nearest boat, speeding through the water. Once arrived, she glances up at the ship, readying an action to cast Snowball at the nearest enemy that peers over the ships edge to attack any potential climbers.
Readied Action to Snowball: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2) = 9

Shad Ogroshk'ik |

Round 2 actions
Shad surfaces and on the pirate ship he see's a pirate near the edge and fires his crossbow at him. Then he secures the crossbow to his back prepared to pull off the grapple hook
crossbow attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d8 ⇒ 8

Markus Finley |

Round 2
As the others waited for someone to start the assault, Markus shrugged and grabbed one of the grappling hooks, twirling it a bit before tossing it to the ship above.
Throwing Hook: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16
The burly man pulls the rope taut, sinking the hook into the wood of the pirate's ship. "Alright, I think she's set, get climbing!"
Markus is low on the initiative order, I'm assuming the boats are close enough by the time my turn's up.

Biligup Deepcroak |

Biligup swings down from the mast, landing before the other rowboat. He gives a quick nod towards Lagrin, hopping his small frame into the boat before grabbing hold of the oars.
"With me, my friends! We go for glory and fortune!" The rowboat hits the water hard and the Grippli tries his very best to move the boat closer towards the pirate vessel. The sounds of battle send his heart racing, a grin spreading across his face as adrenaline begins to pick up.
"Any of you who aren't casting, shooting, or doing something else, help me row! Follow my croaks!" With whoever would grab onto the oars, he would shout back at "On my mark! HEAVE! CROAK! HEAVE! CROAK!" The croaks coming the miniscule frog were incredibly loud, almost rumbling the rowboat as he moved onwards towards glory.
I know no one can roll Prof: Sailor since it is trained only but could they just make Strength checks to help me a little bit? Just want to do the best I can :D
Round 1 Prof: Sailing: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Round 2 Prof: Sailing: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

With no experience in boarding a ship and in mass battles... or normal battles, to be honest, Oreana keeps herself behind the others waiting for a chance to climb aboard even if unsure how she might be of some help.
Round 1
Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16
Round 2
Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

Round 1
Everyone swims/sails.
Round 2
As you approach closer, the full scale of the situation becomes clear. The merchant ship north on map is lashed with planks to the assaulting pirate ship, and the pirates seem to have taken near complete control, sailors from the merchantman laying slain or wounded on the deck Red upside down smileys while a few struggle on against individual pirates grey right side up smileys
Shad surfaces and fires, but misses with his crossbow.
Grin finishes laying the rowboat into the side of the besieged merchant ship.
The pirates swipe and swing at those they are fighting, or those not engaged look around warily.
Good enough Biligup
To the south, the grippli swashbuckler lays his rowboat into the side of the pirate ship.
On each ship, you hear shouts from what must be boarding repelling officers, directing the crews on their side, armed with boarding pikes. readied actions to attack climbers
Heskavar swims into the range, following Shad, preparing to climb up.
Myrsko waits for a rope to be available to climb.
Zeebu fires, missing the pirate shouting orders.
Nathaniel calls for divine favor, then War Blessing.
Markus latches a grappling hook onto the side on the north boat.
Oreana begins climbing, making it 10 ft. up- the rope Markus hooked on.
Prepared attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
AOO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 She takes a hit from the boarding pike on the way, but finds herself at the top of the rail inside the reach of the weapons the repellers hold.
Munrir hits the pirate with a burst of fire, damaging him!
Cordellia prepares to fire a snowball at the next pirate attacker, but her aim is off and the nimble pirates avoid the blow.

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

Shad- the ones near you do not have pikes; they are wielding cutlasses. Grappling with the grapple hook is a CMD check, and then on the following turn you maintain the grapple and pull- you can only grapple + do damage if you critical so I assume you threw it with the intent to grapple?

Nathaniel the Bull |

Round 3
Nathaniel watches their small row boat approach the much larger pirate vessel, ship, boat. The Were-Shark feels the blessings and favor of the Triune supportive of his current course. He winces as he sees the welcoming committee.
Anyone got any fog spells? We could use them distracted while we climb.
My first ship, boat, vessel fight. Really need to ask for fog spells!
Nathaniel the Bull then launches the grappling hook up at the rail thingy.
hook 'em horns!, bless, divine favor, blessing : 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 17
He then waves Myrsko up the rope. He grins.
Divine Favor= 8 Rounds; War Blessing +1 attack this round= 9 Rounds

Cordelia Firth |

Cordelia attempts to Grease a weapon held by one of the pirates standing ready to repel boarders, so that her allies can make it to the ship without injury.

Biligup Deepcroak |

Once the boat is close enough for boarding, Biligup would look up the way with a wide smirk. He quickly drew the rapier from his side and stepped up to the side of the boat, his weight barely shifting the boat they were in.
"I will go and try to clear a way for us to ascend. Wish me luck!" The brave Grippli would then leap onto the side of the boat, his fingers and toes suckering onto the wood. Quickly he would climb up now, his speed and agility letting his keep on moving towards the top where spears awaited him. It was important to ensure he wasn't immediately. Once he is close to one of the pirates, he lashes out with his blade.
I will climb up 20ft. towards one of the pirates on the railing. If I am in range to try and parry their attack, I will try. I am going to fight defensively once I attack to give me a +2 to AC.

Myrsko |

“Fog spells,” Myrsko exasperates to himself as he gives Nathaniel a look that says Why didn’t I think of that! He shrugs and smiles. ”Next time, mate. Just say something before we’re in the thick of battle”
Following the rope up to the gang of menacing pirates, Myrsko hesitates. ”And on second thought,” he says still speaking to Nathaniel. ”I’m not ready to be run-through yet.” And with that, he moves forward, whipping out his pistol, aims at the pirate above,
and fires. A loud crack emanates from the gun along with smoke and the smell of gunpowder.
Attacking the one on the right, unless he’s engaged in melee with an ally. In that case, attacking the one on the left.

Grapple: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 the pirate sailor Shad has hooked struggles to no avail! Next action you can pull him into the water with a CMB check to "maintain" the grapple.

I haven't gone in round 3 either.

I'll try to anticipate ready actions and AoO's more so we don't have to wait on stuff. Billy gets knocked a bit but is still standing.

Oxnard Kettlebeak |

Sorry Markus, didn't mean to miss you there my eyes just skipped your name; no worries Billigup- I know that's a weird spot where you trigger and AOO and a readied attack simultaneously I wanted to make sure you got the chance to respond as you would have

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

Well, I guess I phrased poorly my first post, since my intention was to be the LAST person to board the ship, considering she has zero combat skills and was almost the last one in initiative order, with many others eager to join combat.
Protecting herself as best as she could, Oreana focuses on the breeze of the ocean and the smell of salt. "Ceò a ’Chuain!" Her hair undulates as a quick gesture and the druidic power word combines to form a thick mist around herself, obscuring all sight.
Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
She then jumps steps away from her place, hoping to lose her attackers. This is what I get for being curious... next time I'll stay on the boat!

Rowboat #2 original occupants: +1 morale attack and vs fear 8/10 rds remaining
Biligup advances, then so must you, Munir! Protect him as promised! The gnoll grabs Nathan's rope and begins hauling himself up to the deck, his toe-claws scrabbling for purchase on the slick hull as he goes...

Meanwhile, on the other side Munrir attempts to move forward past the repeller:

That will bring up the party for round 4; Heskavar has his round 3 action, but I realize he may be waiting for the pirate to end up in the water.

Myrsko |

Smiling as he watches the pirate above jerk in reaction to his shot, Myrsko gives a shout of elation. “Yeah!”
Quickly, he pulls out another shot, and begins repacking the pistol. Looking to Nathaniel he says, ”Why don’t you go up and I’ll follow. I can take couple more shots at them from down here.” After filling the pan with powder, Myrsko points his pistol at another pirate and fires of the shot.
Attacking the one on the left.
Attack v Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
@Munrir Thanks for pointing out the morale bouns!
Edit: When Myrsko squeezes the trigger, the usual crack is replaced with a snapping sound. Misfire ”Dang it!”

Heskavar Stormswimmer |

Round 3:
Swimming over to grab the end of the rope that Shad is using to pull the pirate above down into the water, Heskavar does his best to aid him however he can.
CMB to aid: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 I don't think that is enough to aid.

Nathaniel the Bull |

Round 4
Nathaniel laughs.
Might have gotten some water in there, Myrsko.
The Shark-kin attempts to climb up the boat, ship, vessel.
Climb DC 5: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Climb DC 5: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
A d, he slips a bit half way up!
This is a bit embarrassing!
Divine Favor= 8
7 Rounds; War Blessing +1AC (AC 15 FF) this round= 8 Rounds

Lagrin |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Grin and Barret continue to climb.
Grin, accelerated Climb DC 10 to reach the deck as a move action: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 4 = 16
Barret, DC 20 to climb the side of the boat as a move and standard to reach the deck: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 4 = 12
Grin hops on to the deck and pulls out his nodachi, while his alligator friend struggles trying to climb up the barnacles hill of the pirate ship.

Markus Finley |

Finally on board, Markus spots an opportunity to deal with the meddling repellers. Stepping behind the man, the priest give him a great push!
I take an AOO, unless the pike is too long.
Bull Rush: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
I think Oreana is actually in my way here, unless she moved last turn? Also, I'm not sure if I can actually push him over the railing, If not, I'll change my action.

Shad Ogroshk'ik |

Shad feels the grapple wrap around the pirate and as he squirms and tries to dislodge the rope and hook, Shad pulls hard, diving below the surface
CMB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
