"As you say- you are the experts. Me and my people are landmen."
Heskavar will have spent most of the conversation watching the others, both his own teammates and those they have come to assist. Standing slightly behind those who are doing most of the talking, he will have been leaning on his Trident to assist in support himself on land. Once the others have all asked the questions they see fit to ask, he will eventually speak up himself. Speaking in his deep, gravelly voice, he will eventually ask "Have any of the survivors spoke of whether they were assisted in any way by people or creatures of the sea?"
"Only that anyone who fell into the water disappeared in a puddle of blood- what type of creature that would be I could not say."
What about numbers? Are they attacked by one or more ships? How many crew?
"One ship; crew- just the witch and a small crew, but no one can say for sure- less than a score, likely less than a dozen, but brutal efficient."
"Sounds like a crew we can take by surprise."
A few days later, presenting the figure of a near defenseless transport. . .
After a few hours, in the dark of night, you spot the outline of another ship. As it nears, it becomes obvious it is chasing you down- as anticipated.
That is the moment when the fog begins to roll in deeply.
