Huh. And I hadn't looked at it for a while. Maybe I'll post there

It’s amazing how ‘focus’ really changed the way you experience this site. I love RPGs , but I really am not a big fan of a lot of its devotees. In the whole, most of the people I interact with now are people I choose to interact with, and that seems to work for me. I don’t see the clickbaity threads anymore, and I am happy in my lane.

I understand the thought process. However, Zen Master though you may be, as the devil on your shoulder, I feel compelled to say:

Never content yourself with staying in your lane.

As an aside, I apologize for slow PbP posting-- these days, I can only come out late at night.

In many things I don’t, but in Internet shenanigans? Yeah I’ll be staying right the FNCK in my lane

That sounds an awful lot like a description of Florida, but you are headed North...

It’s where the Floridians go in the summer.

Wowsers!

Aged wizzie COMPLETELY lost track of THIS thread! o_O

HI! :)

Happy,... April?!?

(THERE'S an oxymoron for you!) ;P

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

I know right? I guess nothing interesting was a good title

LOL, certainly true for my work right now!

Oi vey, I had forgotten just how LONG my 'usual/normal' work hours can be, running a stage. Have been letting music classes use it and having no shows for TOO long now.

THIS, is beginning to feel entirely too much like WORK! :(

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

I’m still getting used to 15-hour days ... again.

meeeee tooooo,...
Unfortunately, ;P

Heh, I have been 'wishing' to 'get back to normal',...

be careful what you wish for! :P

ALL of the dance schools that got canceled last summer, AND several more I hadn't heard of til now, are all banging on my door wanting EARLY summer dates!

Sigh, the price of popularity I suppose, ;)

DO NOT STICK FINGERS IN CAGE

Yup. Popularity can be taxing. I took on another online game through Fantasy games for tonight. But I’m torn as I have been raking in $80+ dollars a night delivering food. And I need to reactivate my Suicide squad game, which is 2 1/2 years dead. Oh and find time for girlfriend, and keep main job happy, and occasionally sleep ...

Silver Crusade

Sounds like something's got to go. Sleep? Who needs it?

Meh. You can always sleep when yer DEAD.

But GIRLFRIEND time,...?
Yep. THAT'S important! ;) Keep that!

I suggest spending the $80/night on the girlfriend.
Win/Win! ;P

(Just a thought,...) ;)

Job?,.. Oh, OK fine, I guess that needs to stay too. Steady income IS important. (Especially in keeping a girlfriend!) :)

But heck, if you've already added another online game?!? Then you MUST be swimming in extra time, right? ;)

Sigh,... Its been,... a long week.
And yes I know its only Wednesday. :(

Without going into TOO much detail,... (And I'm not sure I should anyway)
on Monday I got a vague email saying I need to come meet with my new boss (old one retired) on Wed. Citing concerns had been raised and needed to be addressed.

OK, THAT'S pretty vague, and in the absence of any actual facts, my imagination went south pretty quickly. Only maintained my calm cuz I'm PRETTY sure I havent (knowingly) broken any laws. ;P

Yeah,... it was SO much worse than I imagined.
The list of 'concerns' was almost two pages long.
O_o

10% were legit, (if somewhat ridiculous and overstated), and I copped to those and said "great, now I know theres a problem I can fix it."

70-80% were a combo of bogus/misinformation/misunderstanding/BS/whatever,... seriously,... (?)

The remaining 10%-ish were "WTF?!?!?! Where did THAT come from!?!?!?"
O_O
Like, 'left-field-out-of-no-where-and-no-one-who-has-even-met-me-would-believe-it -for-a-second' WTF.

I've been here like, 13 years, I've had ONE complaint that I'm aware of, from a student who was stealing. :P

I feel like I've been hit by a bulldozer. Driven by a bull. On Red Bull & crack.

Sorry, just REALLY needed to vent for a sec, and this seemed like a safe place. :P
I can delete this if you wish. :)

No that’s fine that’s why It is here.

That really sucks that happened. Be very careful. When a boss does something like that, it can mean that they are preparing to terminate you, and they want a paper trail. I don’t mean to be alarmist, but I was blindsided by a similar thing.

When I was working security at a hospital, they never put me on the schedule full time. They kept me per diem, so they didn’t have to give me any benefits. I got another job, because I was tired of the instability of never having a set schedule and having to accept any shift at any time to make ends meet. So, I became less valuable to them because i wasn’t taking every shift that came along.

One of my tasks was doing nighttime rounds in the outpatient/urgent care buildings associated with the hospital. There were about half-a-dozen in the surrounding communities. One day I found a dog wandering by one building, no collar. I was worried as it was near a fairly busy road. I used Facebook to contact several missing dog pages and tried to find someone to take him. It took a while, but I was able to locate his owner. When I came back late from my rounds I was written up. That made me wary, as it seemed rather small-hearted to censure me for saving a dog. So I wasn’t surprised a few weeks later when I was asked to HR. I was written up a second time for ‘poor performance’, citing the fact that my ‘work logs were not done well’. I hadn’t changed my methods at all. My supervisor and the HR lady gave me a stark choice: resign or they would blackball me. I really had no choice. I had no rights, no set schedule, so I resigned. I still don’t understand why it occurred. I had been a good resource for when people called in sick. I didn’t cost them anything but my pittance of pay. My only conclusion is that the hospital had gone through a recent merger, and the long-term staff were eager to prove they were valuable by cutting costs.

Anyway, TL;DR: Be very careful and keep your eyes open. Never trust in the goodness of others, because they don’t care about you.

In other work-related news ...

I have been pleasantly surprised by my side gig. I’m looking at grossing an extra $500 a week, which is a pretty amazing sum. Bad news is my free time is gone.

Wow, that does stink about the hospital, but from what I know of business mergers/buyouts/takeovers, something like that always happens. Same when a school gets a new principal, half the teachers leave.
(Doesn't mean it always HAS too, but as you said, people panic and start trying to cover their own arses, usually by throwing others under the bus.)

I was lucky when my former company bought other companies, we were the 'parent' company, so WE in my office weren't really affected. But the reason for most of our mergers was to expand into areas we did not already have offices, so it wasn't like they suddenly had too many people in one city and not enough work. :P

Paper trails, yeah, strangely the OLD boss never did anything unless it was to fire you. (By asking for your resignation, because usually the person hadn't actually done anything wrong) This NEW boss is at least 'doing due diligence and giving me a chance to tell my side of things', I guess thats good. :P

Strangely, the ONLY complaint that I know about in the last 13 years before this, (other than the usual teachers griping cuz I didn't give them what they wanted) was ONE kid who complained I told him 'NO' all the time. Because he was caught stealing $1,000 microphones. And never punished. ;P
"No, you can't borrow any more mics, because you keep 'losing' them. In your house. I'm out of mics for you to borrow." :)

Sadly, one 'concern' was 'title 9'

Spoiler:
Sexual harassment. (Me? Seriously? I'm the most harmless person I know)

Which means it goes DIRECTLY to HR to be investigated. O_o

Yeah,.... SO,... waiting for THAT hammer to drop. >_<

In good news, that IS cool! Gratz!

Um, what is your new side-gig? have you mentioned it already and I just forgot? :)

I’m delivering food. It’s Uber Eats (although GrubHub has approved me recently as well). I am still sitting on some rather large debt related to my divorce, and although I am making decent money, the cost of living in DC is pretty exorbitant. I decided to monetize my evenings rather than just watch TV. I also have about seven years experience with delivery driving from my early 20s. I had forgotten how good I was at it. The game has certainly changed. I work 5-10PM most nights, and I usually make more than $100. Back in the day I’d never see that amount. It does help I am in a highly-populated area with many well-paid professionals and a vibrant restaurant scene. But kudos to the people who came up with the app for this.

heh, I did think I recalled you saying something about delivering food! :)

Yeah, Uber (both eats and people) have certainly changed the game(s) recently. Just ask the cabbies. :P

Well I'm sorry your losing your free time, but I DO understand about a divorce leaving you in debt! (Thank the Lord that my second wife seems content to put up with me. We are coming up on our 25 anniversary) ;)

I guess it DOES help being in an area with people who can afford to buy at nice restaurants (and presumably tip well)

Good deal, and good luck! May the delivery calls be ever nearby! ;)

Pretty much all of them. Was this a recent revelation? I'm pretty numb to it at this point.

Just reading their emails brings it up in my face. A lot of them never matured. I guess I felt they would be villainous, but like smart Bond villain, not yuk yuk Chad douchebro villain.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

There's only a few true Bond Villians. (Putin, Bezos, the one living Koch, a couple Saudi Princes and African Warlords, and a few power players in India), the rest rule through inherited position and the fact that no one unites to destroy them. They aren't smart enough to make themselves completely untouchable.

Huh. During my interregnum, I had forgotten about this page. Ah, it's so fun getting old.
