Leothar steps up, opens the door, and readies to attack the first foe to come within reach.

Readied Action:
Attack, PoF, PA: 1d20 + 16 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (3) + 16 + 1 - 3 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 9 + 1 = 21

Well-stocked bookshelves line the walls this room, while a plush carpet covers the floor. The body of a crusader lies pale white on the carpet. Standing over it is a half orc in studded leather waiting for you.

M Dwarf Paladin 9 | AC 25 T 12 FF 24 CMD 29 | HP 123/123 | F +14 R +7 W +10 (+3 vs spells, SLA, poison) | Init +3 | Per +10 (Darkvision) | Mv 50' | Smite 2/3 | LOH 7/7 | Mythic 5/9 | Active: None | Shield: On

Leothar declares SMITE EVIL (Last Smite for the day but can use Mythic power to replenish), then will Overrun the enemy to get on the other side and set up a flank. I have moved my icon assuming that the Overrun succeeded.

Overrun, PoF, Smite: 1d20 + 19 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 19 + 1 + 3 = 27
Surge (Mythic Power now at 4/9): 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 +3 for a 30. If that beats his CMD, Leothar gets past him, and if beats his CMD by 5 or more, the enemy is knocked Prone.

AOO if foe is knocked prone, +4 vs prone: 1d20 + 16 + 1 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 16 + 1 + 3 + 4 = 42
Damage, PoF, Smite: 1d8 + 6 + 1 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 + 9 = 18

Damage bypasses DR because of Smite. AC is 26 with Power of Faith.

Seeing the half orc standing over the body of the dead crusader, Ian step forwards. Lifting the 'Lady's Gift' Ian calls out, "For Iomedae and Kenabres!"

5 ft step. Standard action Inspiring Sword
For all of you:
Mythic Focus: Whenever a mythic ally that is within 30 feet uses the surge ability, it rolls its bonus die twice and takes the higher result.
Iomedae's Inspiring Sword Optional Replacement: 1/2 rds. While wielding a longsword, you can perform an impressive display of prowess as a full-round action. All allies within 30 feet who can see your display gain a +2 sacred bonus on attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks for 1 round + 1 round per 5 points of base attack bonus you have.
Power of Faith 2/10 rds. This causes a nimbus of light to emanate from the warrior of the holy light in a 30-foot radius. All allies in this area (including the warrior of the holy light) receive a +1 morale bonus to AC and on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws against fear as long as they remain in the area of light. Also, the light heals the paladin and her allies, curing of them of 1d4 points of ability damage. This power lasts for 1 minute

Ardriel narrows his eyes, studying the half-orc. Frowning, he concentrated a moment and began scanning the room for evil auras, in case the "dead" crusader was the actual vampire and the half-orc was an illusion.

Cast detect evil as my Paladin SLA.

Leothar runs into the room through the half orc. Ian begins to inspire his friends. Ardriel begins looking in the room for evil and knows there is evil present.

Ardriel based on your description of scanning the room I take that to mean you are using detect evil as the spell and it will take 3 rounds to determine what exactly is evil.

Did Leothar knock the half-orc down? Or were you literally when you said he went through them?

He moved past the half orc. He only knocks down if he beats the CMB by 5 or more

Non-Lethal Damage: 2d10 + 32 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2) + 32 + 1 = 40

Following up behind Leothar, Dadna swung her weapon at the half-orc. Seeing that Ardriel was hesitating so as to determine whether the half-orc was truly a foe, Dadna decided to err on the side of caution and not go for a killing blow. It was her hope to incapacitate, so that they might take the half-orc captive. If he, or she, was an enemy, then they would interrogate. And if it turned out that the half-orc was a victim? Well, then there would be an apology forthcoming.

Dadna hits the half orc who shrugs off her attack. He then turns and tries to stab Dadna with a dagger and then follows up with a slam attack. Both miss.

Avoiding the counter attack, Dadna went about breaking through the half-orc’s defenses. Finding it difficult to take the enemy down with a dagger in her face, she switched towards straight up fighting.

Well, I did have one idea...

Enos looks around Dadna's left, then around her right. Sighing, he says, "On your left, Dadna!"

Despite his words, he feints that he will circle her on the right before ducking around her left side and attempting to slide through the half-orc's space.

Deception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Enos suddenly finds himself teleported across the room, every bit as surprised as everyone else, as an illusionary duplicate take the full force of the attack and shatters into shards of light. Using an MP for Mirror Dodge and a possibly cinematic discovery of a new ability.

The half orc laughs as Enos gets tangled up with Dadna and slams into Enos. He is shocked when Enos gets hit but then pops out of existence and turns up somewhere else and he gets no energy from the hit.

Slam: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

Enos realizes he's overestimated his abilities as the half-orc's fist comes sailing in and he begins a whispered prayer to the Dawnflower as he throws himself to the left.

With a shock, he finds himself behind Leothar, rather confused about how he got there. Quickly looking back, he sees himself struck by the enemy and shattering into a spray of illusionary lights.

"Goddess, your grace is boundless. I will not squander your gift."

Keeping the 'Lady's Gift' lifted, weilding the blade in a dazzling display, Ian calls out, "You will fall before the paladins of Kenabres!"

Ardriel decides that either the pale crusader is either a vampire really good at faking being dead or actually dead, so he turns his attention to the half-orc, loosing two arrows at it.

Attack 1, Mythic PBS: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 14 + 2 = 19
Damage, Mythic PBS: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9

Ian continues to encourage his friends but that doesn't help Ardriel's arrows as they miss the target.

The half orc shakes off his confusion and attacks Dadna getting in a nasty dagger wound.

Dagger: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32 Damage: 1d4 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 8 + (4, 1) = 17

Dadna pounds the vampire and it still stands. Leothar moves up and hits it with Radiance and suddenly it turns into a gaseous cloud. It flows around Leothar and through the back wall.

Enos says, "You beat him into mist, Dadna. We have a moment. Besides, I've found a door. You might step back while I set this off."

He examines the door looking for the catch to release it, but more importantly for any traps.

Perception checking for traps: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22

If there is a trap to disarm or a lock to unlock: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (11) + 25 = 36 (please include additional +2 for masterwork thieves' tools if they are pertinent)

Enos doesn't find any traps nor a latch for the door. After examining the door he finds a keyhole and manages to get the door open. The room beyond is empty except for a coffin.

Smiling as the half orc turns to mist and flees to its hidey-hole, Ian entered the room with the others, the light of his Power of Faith illuminating the room. Watching and waiting as Enos finds, and opens the door, Ian steps forwards so his light shines into the dark room. As the coffin is illuminated, he asks, "Anyone have a stake?"

”Well done on finding the door.” Dadna said, and then followed up with ”A stake is just a piece of wood. Easy enough to make.” She put words into practice, taking her weapon and striking the door. Once broken it should be easy enough to use a shard as a stake.

K Religion on whether anything else is needed to kill the vampire: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Dadna thinks for a moment about how to kill a vampire. She knows you need to put a stake through its heart. A piece of door probably isn't enough but a haft from one of the torture device would probably work. Then she realizes the stake only works as long as it is in the vampire. You need to cut the head off and put holy water on it to permanently kill a vampire.

Listening to his friends debate what to do with the vampire, Ian, realizes he has no 'true' knowledge about the situation, only the stories heard around the campfire as a child. Knowing such, he keeps his mouth shut, but commits to the idea of learning more about their enemies and not just the world wound in general.

Enos thinks for a moment and knows Dadna is correct, staking, removing head and putting holy water on the head will kill the vampire. He knows putting a vampire in direct sunlight will kill it as well. The problem is you haven't really seen the sun since being in the Worldwound.

I haven't made a big deal about the atmosphere in the Worldwound. As soon as it is entered the world is drearier, oppressive. Bright sunny days don't exist here. I think I brought this up when you first entered it but I don't think I had a big neon sign on it.

Vampire is already staked in its coffin by Dadna.

So we don't need to keep injuring it - merely bring the coffin and make sure the stake is not removed.

I have had a number of posts from several threads this week that I missed. Poor week for reading comprehension on my part, sorry.

The paladins pick up the coffin and as the other four carry it out Enos leads the way. Upon entering the main corridor the whispers quiet down some and they can think a little clearer. They walk all the way back to the camp and open the coffin. Upon seeing what was in the coffin Sosiel hurries away and comes back with a vial and hands it to Leothar. "Holy Water." is all he says.

Enos has been thinking about this process as they left the citadel. With the coffin open and Sosiel retrieving the holy water, the tiefling draws both kukris and works them around the neck so a heavier blade can sever the spinal cord more easily.

Watching as Enos preps the body, Ian draws the 'Lady's gift' and chops down at the exposed neck of the Vampire.

Blades cleaned and sheathed, Enos lifts the no-longer-attached head from the coffin as Sosiel approaches. Whispering a prayer to the Dawnflower for the soul of the unfortunate that was turned into this monster, he holds it out for the application of the holy water.

"I believe if you pour it slowly, it will soak into the corrupted flesh. That's part of why it destroys the ability to regenerate - the flesh persists, but it is no longer viable. Or so the legends say where I'm from."

”This reminds me of when I was little. Me aunt was teaching her daughter and I how to cook. And by teaching I mean she wrote down the instructions and had us go at it. Took fooking forever and we made a mess of it, but in the end it was edible.” Looking down at the sizzling vampire corpse she said ”I hope the bards make this sound more heroic than this shyt-show.” The last part was said with a smile.

Cleaning the gore from his blade on the creature's sleeve, Ian sheaths the 'lady's gift' watching as Enos pours the holy water on the dead flesh. Raising an eyebrow as Dadna reminisces about her teaching her about, of all things, cooking. Having no similar memory to compare it to, he nods when she adds about the bards making it sound more heroic that it had been.

Relieved the vampire was dead, he remembers they only have a certain amount of time for the 'archon' to guard the banner. Turning from the corpse he asks, as he begins to walk back towards the fortress. "Does anyone need to get anything before we head back?"

”I do not, let’s go back.”

Does anyone need to use the mythic ability to refresh non-mythic abilities? I forget the name, but this might be a good time.

”Unless someone can use magic to repair gear, of course. We can’t wait for normal means.”

Recuperation. Not a bad idea. Leothar is at 4/9 MP, so using 1 point drops him to 3/9 but recharges everything else such as spells, Smite, Divine Bond, and LoH. I think it is worthwhile. Takes an hour.

Leothar looks uncertain.

"I can pray to Torag for the power to repair magic items, but only those of limited power. Aravashnial or other casters might be more proficient."

Torag paladins can get Mending as a 1st-level spells, though real casters can get it as a cantrip for unlimited use (and have higher caster level for repairing magic items).

"Let us rest and pray for an hour or so, and see if the other casters with us can repair our items during that time. If there is still damage remaining within my ability to repair, I will pray to Torag for the blessing of Mending."
