Cheshire looks to the tall elf. "Thank you for your aid. The Ironfang have always been a puppet of Multhune. All of you who bled for us. Thank you. If it did not already come up. I am Cheshire Silvanshe. You have helped me pull from the blades and fires my father. Myrd the Ole Silvanshe, a hero of the freedom war."

Are there any spots where we can head to a hunter camp, or cache of Foxclaws nearby that might have a modicum of shelter or place to rest.

Not anything that can accommodate this many people (17 people including the PCs).

Remember that people are hurt, tired, and/or scared and are looking at you for guidance. It's quite an ordeal to have your town invaded and people killed or enslaved.

BTW: I expect the campaign will 'slow down' a little bit. That was quite a pace we kept up for a few weeks. This is natural as the campaign turns into a little sandbox for the next bit. I still expect to post a turn recap per day and expect that there will be more RPing between yourselves and the NPCs.

Through the settling dust Kudvathalas looked at the Bugbear. Trying to recall if this was a face from any of his or his people's dreams. Scarvinious. I will remember you.

He then turned away and joined the gathered refugees.

"You've all done very well, but we still have a long way to go. The Fangwood has many dangers of its own, and I am unfamiliar with this portion of it. We should stay together, and we will look for a good place to lay down camp."

Action 2

Sarya looked at the survivors as they tried to sleep. She knew very well what they were in for, as she had felt it all. Most of them would start having suicidal thoughts after a while, feeling guilty for having survived. The desire to live would sip out of them slowly, making them become ever more useless to themselves and others. She, herself, coped with it driving society away and living in the forest. With time and discipline, she had come to accept her survival and live with it. She felt she needed to guide these people spiritually if they were to see a light in the end of this tunnel. Funnily enough, she was far from being a spiritual guide.

She approached Oreld first. He was a healer and he would be the most needed in the next weeks. "Can I talk to you for a bit?", she asked him. As they stepped away from camp, Sarya said "I am so sorry for everything. I cannot imagine the blow it must be for you and the others." After pausing for some time for him to actually feel the happening, she continued "You saved our lives, Oreld. Without knowing, you built the tools of our escape. And I thank you for it. Starting tomorrow, some people will have to venture into the woods and gather food. Please make a list of things we may find in the wild that you will be able to use to produce medicine, so we can keep our eyes open. No, don't think about it now. We have until tomorrow."

Action 3

As Jet distributed provisions, Sarya refused, as she didn't actually consume meat. But he insisted with some stale bread and a small slice of cheese, which she reluctantly accepted. After the saddened breakfast, Sarya said to Aubrin "We need to get some cover. Could you lead us to the safest place you know in these woods? I'll walk with you."

”Ye should eat up, lass.” Gazul said, as he tried to pass some meat to Sarya. ”Ye fought well back there. Most just bloody ran, but yer blade did more than talk. So don’t be too modest and take yer share of the food. Can’t having ye get weak on us.”

Sarya replied to Gazul "I'll have some bread and cheese. Please don't offer me meat. And I can live off the forest too, so as we walk I'll be able to pick food for myself and some."

Gazul stared at Sarya like she was crazy. This had been the longest conversation he’d ever had with an elf and already it had gone downhill. He shrugged and set about eating the meat himself. ”Religious reasons then?” He asked, being genuinely curious as towards the reason.

Grand Lodge

Fighter lvl 4 [AC16 | Saves +1 +4 +4 +3 +0 +0 | Per +2]

Sarya found the dwarf's reasoning amusing. She said "It's a little more than that. You dwarves have centuries old traditions, yes? Think of this as one of ours. You wouldn't claim you all care about walls, down to the littlest detail, due to religion. I'm sure that to explain such... behavior... would require a great deal of a long exposition of names and philosophies."

After letting Gazul consider her words for a moment, she continued "The elven habits of vegetarianism comes from an ancient tradition. Its origins are somewhat debated, but I tend to believe more that it originated in Anuriel's first encounter with benevolent fey in Castrovel, many centuries ago. He was likely convinced by the fey to give up eating meat to better purify our bodies and connect with our inner selves."

I was clear the elf liked history. To avoid being boring, Sarya said playfully "You know, I once heard of a human wizard who claims that the fey were pulling a prank on the elves."

Lvl 4 Dwarven Underdark Scout Ranger HP (44/44) Saves (6/4/6/-1/1/-1) Init (+2, adv) AC (19) Passive Perception (13) Inspiration (0:1) Lvl 1 (0/3)

Gazul ignored the joke. Far from finding it boring, he instead nodded along with great interest. ”I mean nay offense when I say this, but I was always told that elves were flighty, prone to change as often as the season. But I heard wrong. There is nothing wrong in following tradition. Ye do yer ancestors proud. Would be happy to hear more as we move.” He took a bite of the previously offered food, and then continued. ”Anyways. Most people here don’t seem to have any idea of what to do in the woods. While I’m sure we can do much to keep ‘em fed, we need to know where to go. I’m of the mind to find a defensible place to hold up while we plan our next move. All I really know are the trade routes, though. Ye know of any such places? Forts perhaps, or even cave systems?”

Grand Lodge

Fighter lvl 4 [AC16 | Saves +1 +4 +4 +3 +0 +0 | Per +2]

During the walk Sarya enjoyed having someone to talk about history. She replied to Gazul's comment on elves with "At some point in our lives, elves need to find themselves how free spirited or disciplined they need to be. Members of my family usually end up on the disciplined side, as do I. How about you? You seem to care deeply for your sister."

As Gazul commented on the predicament they were in, Sarya said "I don't know these parts of the woods well. That is why I asked Aubrin to take us to the appropriate places she knows. I think our biggest challenge will be to keep the survivor's spirit from dropping. If they give up, no amount of effort or knowledge will save them."

”She’s family. And she’s blessed. Chosen by a God and gifted with his hammer. That means that she has a great destiny. Everyone knows it, and that’s a problem. I think that it makes her feel like she has something to prove, and it makes her reckless. It’s a burden I’ve never had to bear. I believe in her and her strength, but I’m worried that if I don’t watch her back then she won’t live to fulfill her potential. Suppose that I feel it’s wrong that she has to be so strong all the time, and that by staying with her I can make that weight abit lighter.”

As the conversation moved to the survivors, he said ”Hope yer good at that. We’re not in a position to baby anyone. Go too slow and we’re all dead. Sad what happened to their home, but they’re all adults. But we’ve got a good core, eh? That gnome can throw a bloody mean fireball. And Kud seems to be as home in the woods as anyone, plus he’s right good with his spells. So long as we keep moving, we should be fine. Just so long as the hobs don’t put their minds to pursuing.”

Action 1

Once they had decided on a spot for the evening, Kudvathalas approached Katra.

"Do you mind if I take a look at your wounds? I was forced to hurry during battle, and want to make sure that the bindings are adequate."

Action 2
Kudvathalas placed his backpack on the ground, and removed his bed roll. It was well made and embroidered with a large blue and white butterfly on one side. He prepared the bed roll and his belongings carefully, almost ritualistically, and finished his preparations by placing the hand carved butterfly statue just above where his head would rest.

He knelt at the side of the bed roll and quietly, but clearly began to pray.
"Tender of Dreams, watch over us this night. We are travelers all, under your stars. Bless me with dreams to lead us on the right path."

With that he moved to lay down for the night.

Sarya listened to Gazul's tale about Katra silently. She had never had such a connection to someone and she envied the two a little bit. All members of her family were hard to take care of, and were usually distant. She said reassuringly "She is lucky to have you. Maybe one day she will realize it. And maybe you will realize some day that you need her just as much."

Later, Sarya felt obligated to think practically and said "You bring a good point. We need to find somewhere to rest and gather strength, but once we do, we should set patrols with the townsfolk and traps. We really don't want to be caught by surprise. That gnome may be our trump card, by the way. Did you see how he turned that wolf to dust?"

He settles in to sleep rather fidgety.

He wakes early his eyes bleary. He checks on his dad and eats a bit. He walks about the edge of camp looking at the ground he kicks a small branch then lifts from the ground. He holds it up for a good look turning it several angles. Lastly he light bites it and sputters and wipes a bit of bark from his chin.

He looks at those gathered "Do we risk a cook fire? What's next."

Action 1:

Katra's eyes widened as her brother healed her. "What...how....huh...what?" she sputtered out before finally righting her mind. "Did you take a vow of service while I was unconscious?" Katra asked. Her voice was full or surprise, and Gazul realized that during the fight on the bridge, Katra's voice had carried a different emotion...shame.

For the moment, however, she seemed something like her old self.

Action 2:

The rain was not helping Katra's mood, and the piss poor food further spoiled it. She also realized that this was the first evening she had spent sober in...who knows how long.

Katra was pretty sure she didn't care for it; no, not one bit.

Action 3:

Not knowing all that much about hunting, Katra decided to spend her time looking for shelter for the group. With that in mind, she approached the refugees and asked "are any of you knowledgeable in regards to building shelter or caves? While others are going to look for food or water, I plan on taking a few people to look for a place for us to stay, and I need either craftsmen, delvers, or engineers to help me."

And feel free to add to my narrative. It is 'our world' so feel free to describe places, NPCs, etc.

Kudvathalas awoke, having no dreams. He looked around and saw that many of the refugees clearly didn't have the experience in the wilderness that he did. Before they went anywhere for the day, he felt that he should try and pass on his knowledge. He called over two of the refugees, merchants he believed.

"Excuse me, I couldn't help but notice that you didn't have much shelter last night. Would you mind if I showed you some of our techniques? They may not be perfect, but they are better than nothing."

Survival for shelter: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

As Kudvathalas was showing the merchants, another refugee approached and watched. After a few hours there was shelter enough for 4 people. It was barely more than a lean-to to keep the rain off with a hard surface on the ground to keep out the moisture, but it was definitely an improvement to the open air.

Action 2

Cheshire thanked Jet for her prep of the food and brought some to his father. He moved over to where his father laid and woke the old gnome and said, "Here Da is some breakfast. Eat up you need your strength."

The old gnome looked up at his son and replied, "You pulled through better than expect. I'm sorry . . ." The old gnome winced still feeling his wounds.

We are doing slow healing right? I am not sure where that leaves him.

Cheshire interrupted his father, "Hey this is a morning where we are scraping hope from stones. No need to be looking at past matters. I had my own doubts to shake. Still do." With that the old gnome ate a little.

Later as folks gathered to plan. Cheshire listened in and looked on at Aubrin's map. "The farm looks closest. Yeah I know some of the jacks that use that logging thorp its not far into the forest. Might be a place found easily if we are searched for." He looks more at the map. "If the hunter's cabin is still visited by the Rangers then they might be allies. They might also have supplies."

Once a course of action is set. Cheshire will help with the foraging as we move. Should I roll or assume I am giving someone else advantage?

As the merchants approached Katra, Sarya hoped not to be rude as she interfered saying "We will need to survive the next few weeks outside of town. Maybe you haven't noticed, but there's an Ironfang army in Phaendar. Feel free to go back if you want, but do so without our help." The elf was clearly annoyed by the question.

Action 4

Gazul felt the farm was a good enough shelter. Based on Aubrin's map, Sarya agreed that it was the closest shelter, but she also had some concerns. She approached Gazul and said "The farm will be good for people to rest under a roof and maybe cook some food. But I fear it is too close to the forest's border to be defensible. We don't know Ironfang's plan, but if they invade the forest, we will be obliterated in that farm, just as we were in Phaendar. I recommend that we check out a more defensible position for a day after people have had a chance to rest in the farm."

Cheshire looked at the map again and added, "Well the farm is between here and the hunter's cabin. We will start in that direction. Once nearby we can scout it. If its safe we can set camp and it might be a good place to search out the outlying places on the map. The lumberjack camp is not very deep in the forest but we might be able to get supplies. Likewise we need to cross some open ground to get to the ranger redoubt but that might lead to supplies or even allies. We can then head to the hunter's camp."

Cheshire added. "I bet the Rangers have a marking system or even a place to leave messages. We might be able to get word to allies even if we can't run into them face to face."

Its not a nut but I know these can be kinda tasty too. Any chance you have seen anything else around these apple trees like us, men or elves or mean ones like goblins?"

Does the wasp nest appear to be more than 10 pounds?

"I am not sure we want to go to the Logging Thorp as a large group. Its near the edge of the forest and almost 2 days assuming the forest lets us travel the way we want. It sometimes takes you . . ., well it can be hard to navigate. If we go to the hunting cabin its a little closer and might have actual shelter. From their we can let those rest who might need it and we can then go to the thorp and get supplies and from their we can go back to the cabin or to the ranger redoubt to see what they might have there. I'll go where ever we decide but my 2 cents is that cabin."

He looks around judging the size of the wasp nest to figure how heavy it might be.

Reading your description of the forest was great. A few minutes later I ran across a Facebook post about Wistman's Wood in England. Its a nearly untouched forest. The stones keep the trees small and twisting and treacherous for hiking.

D&D elves don't sleep. They just go into a trance for 4 hours. I see Golarion Elves have bonuses against sleep spells, but in a quick search I couldn't find any direct ruling. Since the dreaming hours will be relevant for Kud, how do you want to proceed with this? Sleep, but only 4 hours, D&D trance, something else?

@Cheshire: the wasp nest bigger than 10 lbs

@Kudvathalas: the apples are tart but edible. We can have elves that go into a deeper trance and dream (which is what you want).

Questions?

Game on!

Sorry about the delay again folks. I didn't get home til like 9 pm. Digging through the backup posts now.

Action 1:

Katra flinched at the merchants' accusations. She had not reply and instead ignored them. Eventually the others redirected them towards building shelter.

As the group walked, Katra moved towards the back, to guard the rear. In reality, she just wanted to be alone with her thoughts.

She did, however, do her best to look for food that would feed the people now under her care.

Action 2:

When the group arrived at the farmhouse, Katra was a bit disappointed that there was nothing but a burned out shell awaiting them, but she was not surprised. It had probably been destroyed by a group of scouts.

There was no mistaking that the apples were a boon, however.

Stowing her shield on her back, Katra pulled out her bedroll and began walking towards the closest apple tree.

Cheshire noted Katra's intent, "Hold up. I am trying to figure how we can deal with the wasp without drawing a bunch of stings. It looks to heavy for me to move with magic. I don't think we can smoke them out."

DM the create bonfire spell suggests that it is cast on the ground. I assume means that it can't start the hive on fire unless it were on the ground or within 5 feet of the ground?
