DM the create bonfire spell suggests that it is cast on the ground. I assume means that it can't start the hive on fire unless it were on the ground or within 5 feet of the ground?

OOC: the hive is up on a tree but not too high. I mean it's an apple tree so let's say it's 8 feet off the ground.

OOC:

Gazul thinks he can create enough smoke to drive away the wasps without them swarming on you. It's not without its risks (Nature check DC 12).

I'll roll the dice (tell me who's doing it so I know what bonus to use).

Write up a good description of the technique and I'll provide a bonus on the roll. Failure means the wasps swarm and attack.

Or you can skip the apples and leave the wasps alone.

In any case, I think you're staying the night here unless I hear otherwise.

That leaves bonfire out as a possibility. No problem.

We could use a torch or add mundane fuel to the bonfire spell. Kid wouldn't have thought of it because he doesn't use magical fire. Can toss out ideas in character once the idea is brought up.

Yes that would help smoking. Cheshire was considering burning. At this point Cheshire would happily help whatever smoking plan. He might be able get bonfire going but its not a guarantee.

Action 1

As they successfully dealt with the wasps without too much damage, Sarya said "Boom shaka laka!" She did not, however, know why she said it. Before anyone could ask, she went on and told the survivor group to come in and start gathering apples. "It seems we have Erastil's blessing", she said.

As the refugees settled in the abandoned farm, Sarya told them to start building some shelter for the night. She approached Kudvathalas and said "I recommend we build some sort of trap if anyone should approach this group. They are tired and frightened. If they get into a fight it will be bad, but if they get jumped, they'll surely perish. Some entrapment around the farm will give them some heads up and possibly hinder some attacker."

Action 2

Sarya replied to Cheshire "And do we know if this hunter is friendly?"

Kudvathalas watched as their plan to smoke out the wasps worked better than expected "Well done everybody! We'll have trouble enough as it is without angering Calistria" He then moved forward and began gathering apples.

Action 2
As the group began preparing for the evening, Kudvathalas approached his pupils from earlier that day. "Now, just as I taught you this morning. I'll be here if you need any assistance. He watched as the refugees put together functional shelter for the evening, and he smiled to himself.

With that task done he approached the rest of the party, and listened to the discussion. He added to Sarya's question "And are we sure that this camp is any less abandoned than the farm house?"

Turn 040 - Smoking Wasp Nest

Action 1

"Well we have apples or at least access to some." The gnome walked among the apples and picked as many as he could reach. He then took up his lucky coin. He then pantomimed at the air and spectral hand plucked apples from the tree.

The gnome seemed pleased with his work. As he approached Jet she in rather deadpan voice asked, "So you smoked the wasps away and you could have grabbed most the applies with your ghost hand?" The gnome looked a little foolish but bit into an apple.

Doh. I just realized that while wasp nests might be more than 10 pounds the apples aren't. Sorry guys.

Action 2

Cheshire puts up a hand in surrender, "Hey now I said I would go where ever we decide." He sighs, "As for the hunters there I assumed Aubrin wasn't recommending we visit a hag cottage. I was suggesting I did not want to bring non-combatants and the wounded to the logging thorp because at least on the map Aubrin drew for us it was near the edge of the forest. If the gobs crossed the river that might be in their search area. So I figured going there after we found shelter see if it had supplies we could use because staying there seemed unsafe." His hand moves gesturing along with his train of thought, "You know because its near the edge of the forest." He pauses and lets out a deep breath. "Maybe we should stay here for a few. Both the Thorpe and the Redoubt are a day or so away. We can hit both and gather more supplies before making our choice. If neither the thorpe or the redoubt are good choices we can come back here get the non-combatants and head on to our next stop."

male

OOC: it sounds like the refugees will stay here for the time being. The PCs will either go to the logger's thorp or the ranger's redoubt.

I will roll unless there's a clear winner. I intend to move things along later today.

Sarya was reluctant to leave the townsfolk unattended. But it seemed that was going to be the case. She said "If they're staying here, then I suggest we at least build some things to make them safer. Traps and defensible positions in the least."

Having stumbled upon something as dangerous as an assassin vine, Gazul reacted by immediately hacking at it with his axe. Not particularly. I didn't know that I was next to the assassin vine, but it's an action to summon my hammer, which is why I did it last round. As far as Cheshire goes, I wasn't sure if he got loose with his result or not, but I see after rechecking that you posted the DC in the recap.

Katra was going to help free Cheshire when he managed to get free on his own. Now that he was, she opted to swing at the creature instead.

OOC: I posted that everyone was within melee range for the first round. And I don't see it anywhere where it says that it's a round to summon your hammer. We are just 'fluffing' your hammer being summoned (which is great for your backstory) but I don't think it should penalize you for your cool backstory. It's the same as someone drawing a weapon.

You may be confusing this with the Pact of the Blade ability which comes later at 3rd level.

Anyhow, no problem. I intend to move this along later today.

Funny thing is that I pick the titles before I write the turns (I overwrite the last file) and this particular title was meant to portray what had happened. And then I rolled the dice again and Cheshire came up again. Lucky gnome. :)
