Turn 012 - Team Work

Guys: do me a favor and try to remember to describe your intended results (reason why you know enemies' AC). If there's a saving throw involved, go ahead and assume failure on part of the enemies.

It's a lot easier to describe results for the 'bad guys' when you guys took care of the results for the 'good guys'.

Action 1:

Katra took another swing, making sure the Hobgoblin wouldn't ever rise. She then made sure the recruit wouldn't rise either.

Action 2:
Katra heads back outside and towards the Caretaker's shack.

HP: 15 AC: 13(15) Druid 2 | Saves - Str: 0, Dex: 2, Con: 1, Int: 3, Wis: 5, Cha: 1 | Init: +2

Action 1
Kudvathalas walked past the fallen Hobgoblin, reached down to grab the longbow and arrows, and asked the party:

"I hope you don't mind... this will make me useful at a longer range. I'm no expert, but it may come in handy."

Action 2
Kudvathalas approached the desecrated statue of Desna, a hand tracing the butterfly embroidery on his armour. He stood for a long moment, staring silently at the burned and hacked remnants. He thought to himself I hope this wasn't the reason you sent me here... I fear I am too late.

He looked around to the bodies in the room, and to the rest of the party. "Is this how Molthune works? Sending monsters to destroy everything in their path? What use is there in conquering ashes and bones?" As he spoke, he saw the hand-carved butterfly discarded on the floor, and crouched down to pick it up.

”Aye. Can’t say the tactic isn’t without its uses. It scares everyone else into compliance, and if they can afford to send settlers to rebuild the ruins...” He shrugged. ”Anyways. Let’s loot the place right quick and keep moving. Some solid armor there, but too cumbersome for my tastes.” If anyone cares for it, strip ‘em now.

The dwarf took one of the longswords as a backup weapon and gave the temple a once over, including rummaging through the bodies of the slain villagers for coin. He figured that, while time was of the essence, it was better to have the goods in their hands than to allow it to fall to the hobgoblins.

A sound as if a swarm of butterflies had descended on the temple was distinctly heard. It was only for a couple of seconds, but the druid and his companions felt it deeply in their bodies. A sensation that everything would be alright as long as they kept fighting.

Kudvathalas was overwhelmed with peacefulness even amidst all the bodies strewn about.

Cheshire looks around. He notes the butterfly statue. "My father, he carved this. I hope he is safe. . . .None of us are." He looks to the pile of wealth. "I think we are here for staples for survival but this wealth would go a long way in rebuilding."

He picks up Lirosa's symbol, "This belongs to a hunter, Lirosa. She I believe it gets recharged somehow . . . It may be useful to us though . We can return it to her when things have settled if we get out of here. It does little good here."

Sarya looked at the fighting woman with kind eyes. She said "Blessed are those who meet someone as brave as you, warrior woman. In the times to come, people like you will be needed for the fight. But today is not that day. I am sorry to say that there are two ways out of Phaendar today. And out of those two, only by leaving town do we get to live."

Suddenly remembering the slash in her thigh, the elf said "I have received a small wound, but your healing efforts should be focused on the master dwarf here, who was unlucky."

She quickly took a commanding tone "We are rounding survivors in a small hiding place near the bridge. All of you should go there. Those of you in condition to fight should protect those who aren't. We will join you shortly after we find no one else that can be saved."

With sad eyes, she silenced any complaints by Rhyna saying "Please do not throw yourself to die today. There are those who need protecting. They need you now at their side."

Seeing the elf take charge, Gazul (mentally) shrugged. It worked for him to get his wounds healed, and truth be told he didn’t want to deal with the townsfolk. If someone else could herd them, then all the better. He just hoped that having a gaggle of civilians following them didn’t make them an easy to track target for the hobgoblins.

Kudvathanas smiled to himself as they left the temple. He was certain that he was on the right path.

As he followed the party into the Caretaker's shack, he listened to Sarya's advice and nodded.

"There is a time for bravery, and a time for caution. Now is the latter. Desna's luck can only take us so far if we aren't careful."

"It is good to find folk hale. There is no organized resistance. We were overrun before we could respond. We hoped to gather supplies and any survivors. There is a thick copse of trees this side of the bridge as Sayra has said. There are some survivors headed there. We will go there soon as well. Anyone you see send them to that rally point. Once we are ready we will storm the bridge and move to the safety of the Fang there after." He looks around knowing folk won't want to abandon the town so he plays a trump card. "It is Aubrin's plan and one that might save us." He drops the name of the woman knowing her respect in town.

He nods at Katra, "Yes thank you."

Ha I love it. The coin fits. I was looking forward to a wizard's pointy hat but dad's lucky coin is a nice touch.

Turn 014 - Lucky Coin

Cheshire notes his father, "He lives. Can anyone heal him. He is hurt.

As the old gnome spoke and shared a bit of rare tenderness with his son Cheshire smiled grimly at his father. [b]"You always wanted to go out with your boots on. You still breath old man so you botched that. Your foe not so much." He grew somber as his father gave him the coin. "I'll put this to good use. Any luck I get I will use to get you out of here with us." Cheshire held the coin and noted a shimmer of power in it. He grinned. "Luckier than I thought." He wiped some tears away.

The gnome looked up at the others. "Oreld's Fine Shop is just up that way heading toward the bridge. Its front is exposed but there is some space behind the houses here to stay out of site of the green. But I don't believe there is a back entrance." The gnome looks back at his father. "On yer feet codger Molthune hasn't take you tonight." Cheshire struggles to get the gnome to his feet struggling. "Your getting fat."

The Ole Silvanshee scoffs painfully, "Grow stronger boy." The old man nearly swoons getting to his feet supported by his son.

There is no back entrance on the map for Oreld's. Are there windows?

Action 2
Kudvathalas looked to Cheshire "I see bloody footprints leading into the shop, and signs of magic on the wall. Whatever we do we should be prepared for the worst."

”Aye then.” Gazul said, giving the gnome space as he spoke with his father. He wasn’t about to get in the way to clan affairs. ”Let’s do this. Ready, sis? Hammers high and shields at the ready.”

Unfortunately, Sarya's advice only applied to Halflings.

Action 2

Sarya looked at the shop with grim eyes. Following Kudvathalas' words, she said "Getting in will be tricky, yes, but getting out with supplies has a large chance of drawing attention from the army over there. If there's no back entrance, I believe this is a suicide mission. Tell me, Cheshire, are you certain there are no secret entrances to the back you know about? If there aren't, I'm afraid we must skip the shopping run."

OOC: there are no windows or back entrances in the shop. It's one of the sturdiest 'buildings' in town.

I have two people that want to go in (Kudvathalas and Gazul) and one that doesn't (Sarya).

Cheshire hasn't said anything and neither has Katra (but I'm pretty sure she would want to follow her brother and get in).

Unless I hear otherwise, I will have the group go in.

I intend to recap in a couple of hours.

BTW, this is probably the last 'run' you'll be able to make without drawing undue attention from the army.

Don't forget that you also must try to take down the bridge if you want to avoid instant pursuers.

Based on previous combat that seems like a kill. And it seems like my choice to go with light armor has consequences!

Gazul felt the scrape of a weapon being deflected by his armor. He knew that it would likely leave a bruise, but he didn’t care. He was too angry. Ripping his axe free from the grenadier’s back, he spun around, a look of murder on his face. His axe trailed blood as it arced out, taking the hobgoblin recruit in the neck. It didn’t decapitate his foe, but rather got stuck. He tried to pull his axe back, but all it did was drag the corpse. Grumbling, Gazul had to drop his shield, grab the hobgoblin’s head and with a grunt pull his axe free.

Yep, that's another kill.

Nice description too! I would give you inspiration but you already have inspiration thanks to Kudvathalas's prayer to Desna back in the temple.

This reminds me that you all need to tell me if you want inspiration used for saving throws or things like that (reactions?).

Anyway, the rest of you can RP around Gazul's kill. Oreld has a javelin in his gut and an iron collar around his neck. Katra is critically burned. And there's the rest of the shop to explore.

Thank you. :) I’m now keeping track of the inspiration in profile header so it doesn’t get lost. And I’ll use it for failed saving throws...though I might regret that as with -1 Int/Cha, the chances of me making either of those saves is pretty poor.

Again, I will use healing word if he is going to die. Otherwise I'll save them for when one of us goes down. I'm also good to use inspiration for Saves and pretty much any d20 roll

The wound was severe but the healer still breathed, albeit short, shallow breathing that accompanied his beating heart.
