Turn 18:

Action 1:
Katra dropped her hammer as her brother tossed her a vial, then put it into her pack. She then resummoned it while the rest collected both the healer and various ointments.

“The Fangwood? Is it that bad in town? What can I do?” the healer asked. Without looking at him, Katra said "sack up and get what you need. We're gonna have to fight through a bunch of people, and you're gonna have to heal them." Thinking for a moment, Katra pulled the burn gel out of her pack and set it on the counter before stepping out the door to pull security.

Action 1

Almost as an afterthough, Kudvathalas looked to Oreld and asked "Oh, and you wouldn't happen to know of a way to destroy the bridge, would you?

Oreld's eyes were wet with tears, but he piped up when he was asked about the bridge. "The smithy was repairing the bridge, but the project had stopped due to lack of funds."

He sputtered, "I think she did some temporary repair and was waiting on materials."

He wiped blood from his chin, "I have been working on something for the Meyer Farm. They wanted a big old stump removed. It's in my back room. Combination of powder and liquid. Very explosive but, once set in place, needs to lighted from far away. That part is not finished..."

OOC: BTW, I had assumed that Katra would use the burn gel. If that's not the case then the group has a total of three jars of burn gel and Katra is back at critical wounds.

I'll let Sarya and Cheshire post but I intend to move this along today.

The gnome responds to Oreld's question, "I am afraid so. The army is said to have appeared from now where. The town was aflame and the enemy in our midst before notice. Any healing you can do this dwarf is looking grievous hurt and my father is ill as well."

As more folk appear from the cellar, "More survivors thank heavens. Grab what provisions you can. We are burning our luck I think."

019 - Stump Remover

Cheshire moved with the others to a place where they were out of site of the green. "Do we go to the rally point now. Or visit the smith." He shrugs, "The explosive might work but the temporary fix might prove to be the weak point. I mean I would hate to blow the load and the bridge remain. Perhaps the smith can be found or his plans."

He turns to his dad and checks on him, "Still with us?" He nods a thank you to the towns folk who waited with him.

"We have risked a lot to get here. To get to the blacksmith we risk being seen. In addition to plans for the bridge, there may also be weapons that we could use to arm ourselves and those we have saved. Do you think it is worth the risk?

Sorry for the absence. Yesterday I had a terrible headache and could not consider going near a computer. Today was mother's day and only now did I get some spare time

Sarya noted all the things said, and after considering said "I disagree with the dwarf about the weapons. The path ahead of us is into the woods. The problems we face there cannot be solved with swords or force magic. The dangers of the woods are many before weapons are needed, such as hunger, disease and lack of shelter."

Pointing to the town center where the mass of the army was, she said "That cannot and will not be defeated by the people of Phaendar. This is an escape mission, and that alone."

After a brief pause, the high elf continued "There may be a good point to sabotaging the forge, but can we really afford the time and resources? I'm not a saboteur and will trust your judgement and will join the effort. About the bridge, the dwarves probably have more knowledge than me, but it is to my understanding that we don't need to completely tear it down, only cripple it at key points. After that, if a large mass of soldiers attempts to cross it, their weight will bring the bridge down, taking them with it. Now where the key points are, you'll have to ask an engineer."

Turn 020 - An Escape Mission

Cheshire looks to the refugees as they make their way to the rally point. "We are making good on our escape plan. But the lady dwarf is not wrong. Every edge or weapon will be needed. If you see someone fallen that has supplies or something useful as we move and you think you can get it without causing a scene do so. It might be a blade in the enemy later."

Cheshire notes Katra's wounds, he quietly looks to Aubrin and Kudvalthala whispering, "Is there anything we can do for the lady dwarf. Her courage won't fail but I doubt she will continue unscathed its not her way to ask."

Cheshire gives another glance toward healers as Katra shares her plan his thinly veiled concern on display. He looks at the dwarf, "It might work it means you will bear the brunt of the wolf and whatever beast they trusted to guard the bridge." He curls his finger around his pointy beard. "If we can take the guards at the shed quietly. We might be able to see the plans and have our work clearly defined before we brave the bridge. So far we have suffered looters. These pricks are under orders. Like sending signals if people try to get past the bridge."

Sarya took Katra's comical jab a little hard and replied "You won't hold long against the wolf and its rider. Your divide and conquer strategy would be good if it didn't involve dividing ourselves as well."

To Cheshire she said "I think it won't be easy taking out the two guards by the shack without the wolf realizing. If the noise doesn't give us away, the smell of blood will. We will need to take them all together, I feel. At least I believe it will be the last fight we face today."

Turning to all, she said "We need to be very efficient with our time. I will contribute what knowledge I have to crippling the bridge, but it has never been my expertise. I was hoping the dwarves would know but they.... are experts at something else, maybe."

Don't Dwarves have some sort of stonecunning or similar that should work here?

She continued "We'll have to move quickly. Does anyone have enough knowledge to recognize the bridge plans when they see it? And recognize what should be blown up? We need all the help we can get!" She was addressing all, including the town's people. "Doesn't have to be a mason, anyone who can read will probably do."

To the extraordinary group that had been helping secure survivors she said "We should keep the soldiers busy while the people plan the blowing up of the bridge. We will have very little time for any plan to work."

”I’m a mediocre smith.” Gazul said, trying to drown out the taunts. This was why he preferred the outdoors to people. ”I’m not an engineer, but hey, close enough? Anyways, first let’s deal with these hobgoblins. Don’t quite care how. But me sister here can certainly get the wolfrider’s attention. If some fire and ice can kill the wolf on the charge, then she can remove the rider. Likewise me and the elf warrior here can focus on the two guards. If we can sneak up on them first, then Mayhaps we can kill them before they notice us. I think that the timing of all of this will be key.”

Kudvathalas looked around the gathered people while listening to the planning.

"If we are able to attack the recruits quickly enough, maybe the other soldier and its wolf won't have enough time to get to us before we put our efforts towards them. If we get separated too far, we wont be able to help each other if things go... poorly"

Kudvathalas looks at his companions, and sees Katra is still quite wounded. He knew that she wouldn't ask for help, so he spoke quietly under his breath, hoping not to be heard.

"Desna, we fight for these people, and what is right. Lend your powers to me so we may continue the battle."

OOC: I would allow the dwarves to use their proficiency on the INT check to determine where to blow up the bridge once the plans are read.

BTW, good try on getting the NPCs to help but the only NPC who could have helped was the smithy who was repairing the bridge and she's... no longer available.

The wolf and soldier are on the other side of the bridge so you can definitely engage the recruits in the shed before having to deal with them. They may not even notice if done quickly enough.

I'm trying to be descriptive without metagaming but you can expect that the 'soldier' will be tougher than the 'recruits'.

Is the plan for everyone to try and sneak to the recruits or is it for Katra to call the attention of the soldier/wolf while the others engage the recruits?

"I think Kudvathalas has the right of it. We go in strength to the shed. It is likely we can make short work of the guards there. If it draws the wolf and rider, then we can engage it there. That would be the signal for non-combatants to rush the bridge and head for the wood. If those on the bridge are not drawn then we can see what's in the shed before we take the fight to the bridge. But we do so in strength. Once we have the bridge we can plant our bomb and go."

Gazul’s eyes widened as the elf fell. It wasn’t completely unexpected. They were fighting soldiers in every sense of the word, and casualties happened in war. But all the same, it hurt to see a comrade fall. Stepping over the body, he yelled in Dwarven ”Katra, flank him!” Though in truth he didn’t want her to. She was more injured than she let on, and she could just as easily be next. Still, it was better than her charging a Worg Rider by herself. While he knew that she could take it, that was only at top form. Most of them were far too injured to be considered that. He prayed to Torag that Kuvalathas had more healing left in him. He swung his axe for the hobgoblin’s neck. The foe had overextended himself, and Gazul took advantage of the opening. His axe lashed out, hitting the foe cleanly. It was just enough to cut through, but not deep enough to reach the spine. Still, it was a fatal strike nonetheless.

Are you sure you counted my HP correctly? I have 12 total plus the 3 from Desna's blessing, so 15, got hit or 6 in temple fight, avoided the trap, so no damage, and took 8 now. Unless I took half from the trap. Anyway, I'll act as if I had fallen

Sarya was surprised at the hobgoblin's quick opening of the door and attack to react properly. The next thing she knew, she was opening her eyes to see Gazul do a deep cut on the hobgoblin. Maybe I should rethink my idea o dwarves, she thought.
