GM Jhaeman |
Avi conjures a layer of grease on the ground, but somehow the guards manage to keep their feet!
Both of the guards made their saves, which is pretty good with a +0 bonus!
Gillie, I've just had you do a double-move to get up to the doorway--you weren't close enough to attack.
Buri Buri-Ban follows at Kolris' heels.
Reflex (Blue): 1d20 ⇒ 15
Reflex (Red): 1d20 ⇒ 19
Avi Solrem |
Both of the guards made their saves, which is pretty good with a +0 bonus!
Wow... well at least there's a decent chance they'd fall once they try to move from it.
Angry Magic Tree |
Though having the grease there will make it a bit more tricky to use that exit. Might I suggest this one to the north? It's also got half as many guards!
Kolris Isimlothe |
Kolris slows as he sees the log-jam at the southern exit. He points "Quick! To the north. Follow the tree!" Didn't ever think I'd be yelling that in my life... he ponders before quickly repeating nearly the same command in Kelish for Buri Buri-Ban, with a hand on the man's back to direct him.
"Quick! To the north. Follow the tree! Stay with us; I'll follow!"
Delay until Buri Buri-Ban's next turn to keep on the same initiative count as their captive.
GM Jhaeman |
Two of the guards rush in to attack, while a third backs away to escape the grease-covered ground. Avi and Angry Magic Tree feel the steel of the angry guards!
The guard to the north is taking a 5’ step in and attack. One guard to the south is taking a 5’ step into the warehouse and attacking Avi, while the other guard is taking a 5’ step away from the building to get out of the area of the grease.
Angry Magic Tree, you take 3 points of damage. Avi, you take 4 points of damage.
Attack vs AMT: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Attack vs Avi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Damage vs Avi: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Bennett reverses course and heads to the north exit, hoping to give AMT some space. Bennett fires an arrow on the run.

Sadaf Kargar |
Sadaf is now truly confused and delays.
I always knew why we’re fighting but all these people are doing their job. This is nonsense.
Avi Solrem |
What about there reflex saves to move from the grease?
Angry Magic Tree |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sadaf is now truly confused and delays.

Says the man who threw his dinosaur at two other merchants X-D
GM Jhaeman |
My understanding is that terrain modifiers only apply to the squares you're moving onto--and since each guard was on the edge of the grease field and stepped off (one going north and one going south) that they don't have to make another save.
Ha, now that I look at it, there's like a 400+ post thread arguing issue back and forth. Unless it's been conclusively FAQed, we're going to go with my interpretation. I'm pretty sure the six of you can handle these three guards with or without the grease :)
Avi Solrem |
Avi touches Gillie's blade and transfers a shock for his next hit. He then takes a step back away from the guard that had his attention.
[standard] thunderstaff
[5' step] NW
Kolris Isimlothe |
Kolris urges Buri Buri-Ban towards the north exit.
"Quickly, that way!"
With the point of his rapier indicating the way, and a hand on the man's back, he follows one step behind the merchant.
Standard (Full round?): readied action to follow (escort) Buri Buri-Ban to the north exit up to a double move of 60'
GM Jhaeman |
Bennett nocks and fires an arrow at the guard outside the northern door, but Angry Magic Tree inadvertently steps in the way and spoils the shot. But the vine leshy makes up for it with a powerful swing that drops the foe! Meanwhile, on the other side of the factory, Gillie pounces on the guard with a flurry of attacks that do little harm. But with Avi charging the ratfolk’s tail blade with electrical energy, that could soon change!
Buri Buri-Ban follows Kolris towards the now clear door to the north.
Bennett, your attack would have hit but AMT is providing soft cover to the target. His attack takes the guard out, however. Gillie, three of your four attacks hit—but unfortunately don’t do much damage.
GM Jhaeman |
The factory guard next to Gillie swings his scimitar again and cuts deep! Outside, the other guard shakes his fist in frustration, unsure how to get into the building without stepping foot again in the treacherous pool of grease!
Gillie, you take 7 points of damage.
Attack vs Gillie: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage vs Gillie: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

"The exit's clear; let's go!" Kolris continues to push for the exit.

Sadaf and Danduun continue to sneeze and follow Avi.

Delay, and long for an agile amulet of mighty fists
GM Jhaeman |
Bennett sends an arrow streaking to the south, causing one of the guards to collapse to the ground with an arrow in his belly.
Bennett, I'm just checking on the damage for your longbow. On your profile it's listed as 1d8+4--did I miss a spell or special ability? It probably won't matter either way.
AMT & Avi are up.

I UMD'd a wand of Gravity Bow as we walked in here.
Post here.

Fortitude vs DC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
"Whew!" Angry Magic Tree leans on his axe and waves at the other Pathfinders. "You all coming or what?"
Effectively delaying until everyone else makes it out of the warehouse, or until something exciting starts happening again on this side.

GM Jhaeman |
The last guard, having seen his compatriots cut down before his eyes, facing a slippery pool of grease in front of him, and realising he's outnumbered something like 7 to 1 (with one of those foes being a velociraptor!) decides that discretion is the better part of valor. He runs off to "find reinforcements" in a quiet, dark place.
We will go off Initiative there. Feel free to assume everyone makes it out of the warehouse and is able to reassemble a few streets away (or wherever you would like). Buri Buri-Ban seems to consider himself a kidnap victim and goes along without a struggle.
Kolris Isimlothe |
Fortitude DC 10: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Hampered by the noxious spice, it takes a while for Kolris to make it out of the warehouse, but he joins the others eventually. Freed of the sense of urgency, he begins translating the Kelish that he uses to communicate back and forth with Buri Buri-Ban.
"The statue. It's stolen goods and we're here to recover it. Sorry, but as you see, it's important enough to use force. So, please, without any further trouble, hand it over!"
Intimidate, inspiration: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 5 + (6) = 17
Avi Solrem |
Avi catches up with the re-gathered group and the cornered Buri-Ban, panting and breathing heavily, betraying his state of physical conditioning.
He holds his side after he stops.
Yeah... and could we stop the running and flammables? Just stop buying stolen goods!
Kolris Isimlothe |
"Well, that's the last of these blasted things." Kolris looks back in the direction of the warehouse they'd almost blown up. "Back to the lodge, then?"
Angry Magic Tree |
Angry Magic Tree nods happily. "Well that was fun!"
Bennett Florence |
Bennett nods to Kolris, Let's get a move on, then.
Sadaf Kargar |
Sadaf shakes his head.
"Fun?! No! Usually I do my transactions with spit and a handshake and not with Danduun and talking angry magic trees if you know what I mean." the grumpy dwarf says on the way back to the lodge.
Angry Magic Tree |
"Why would you spit on someone? That's a strange way to water them, but I suppose it's nice to show you care." The leshy shrugs, still confused about flesh-creatures and their traditions.
GM Jhaeman |
Buri Buri-Ban races off, glad that he only had to sacrifice the statue in order to be released.
You make your way through the crowded, fragantly-scented markets of Sedeq and back to the Pathfinder Lodge. Outside the gates, a liveried messenger is waiting for you, and reads from a scroll.
Pathfinders,
Congratulations on a job well done! Word on the street is that you've recovered all four of the statues. And a good thing too, given how dangerous they are. I am glad I could be of such assistance to you in this endeavour, and I look forward to a long, mutually-beneficial relationship with each and every one of you. As the saying goes, favors are the grease that allows the axle of commerce to turn. I am sure necessity will bring us together again in the near future.
Yours Truly,
Grandmaster Torch.
Avi Solrem |
Hmm, okay, that's enough of Torch's dirty-work. Back to the lodge...
Didn't we get roped into doing a favor for him for some of the information? Does that not come due now?
Sadaf Kargar |
“I feel dirty!! We should never have cooperated with the man! Farewell to you all. Maybe we see each other in one of my auctions for rare plants or my dinosaur training program!“ he says waving goodbye.
Danduun |
Danduun shows his teeth and follows Sadaf.
“Gerrr.... “ you hear again from the little dinosaur.
GM Jhaeman |
Once back inside the opulent lodge, you're able to turn the four statues over to Venture-Captain Yasmin Kal’al. The beautiful Qadiran woman smiles at you all appreciatively. "You've done excellent work today! I imagine these weren't easy to obtain. Our sages in the Grand Lodge will study them extensively and, rest assured, you'll receive credit for securing them on behalf of the Society. Please, make yourself at home here until your next assignment. Walking the dusty streets of Sedeq is thirsty work, and I'll have one of the servants send in refreshments."
Well done everyone! That is the formal end of the scenario, but please feel free to do any wrap-up role-playing you would like. Head over to the Discussion thread for additional info.
Bennett Florence |
Excellent. Thank you very much for running. Hope to see y'all out there.
