As Tarak prepares to shift into a monkey to deal with the rope, Gnasher nods, calling up to the others, "Gnasher go to bottom make sure clear." He then gets a good push off, cannon balling out into space to try and get himself as far from the cliff before he begins to float down.

Give me an acrobatics roll to see how far you are able to launch yourself before you start falling. I'll do the math to figure out when you hit the canyon wall and the feather fall stops. Finally get to use some of that trig I learned!

How are your descending? What precautions are you taking? Are you rigging anything up or just knotting the rope and climbing down? BTW, after knotting we will say the rope is 40' long.

We had 100 ft of rope. Both Malgrim and Gnasher pulled out rope. So does that give us 80 ft or still just 40? I am planning on just using the knotted rope against the wall.


Yes, that means you have 80', 40' per rope. And as I said there are plenty of places to tie off as you descend so 40' is as good as 80' really.

Malgrim climbs to the first ledge and waits for Urah to get there before Tarak brings down the rope.

Tarak can just go up and down as needed. He has a climb speed and opposable thumbs

Tarak shifts into a chimpanzee and awaits the knitted rope, ready to climb and tie off as needed to get the group through safely.

No taking 10 as there is danger involved; however the DC is 5 with a knotted rope and you have to miss by 5 in order to fall. As long as you have a positive modifier you are safe. So... are you are taking additional precautions?

I will just take my time and climb down slowly, I am not sure how many checks are needed so I will start off making several checks.

As long as you have a +0 modifier you are safe and there is no need to roll. You can roll if you want and RP the results, but there is no chance of harm.

How far down the cliff did Gnasher get?

With a 19 acrobatics roll that gives him a long jump of 19'.

Now the math. The cosign of 80 degrees is 0.1736481777

This means that for every .17 feet you jump you go down 1' before hitting the wall.

So 19/.17 gives us 111'. So you manage to clear the slope without issue.

Having cleared the slope, Gnasher lands, quickly drawing his bardiche. He checks the immediate perimeter for any threats, then turns to see how his tribe is doing.

Malgrim is making his way down without issue. Tarak is all chimped up and ready to help. Urah is still standing at the top (not too close to the edge) and has a worried look om his face.

Urah seems to be extremely confident as he first grips the rope and descends.

It seems that Urah turned out to be extremely quick with his turn descending as he literally seemed to drop. Sliding down the rope so quickly that one may just fail to notice the white grip knuckles the Ifrit ended up. With knees slightly bent and leaning forward, Urah straightens out as he bounces on his feet after landing on the ground.

"Looks easy after all." he remarks as the wind blows upon sweat covered forehead but it was a hot day after all................


Urah is able to make it down with only a little struggling, but once he is done, almost as if they were waiting for you all, a foursome of gnolls come bursting through the brush and assault you! They are not particularly stealthy and the ones leading the charge are big. Like Gnasher when he's all raging. fortunately in order to stay out of sight they kept their distance.

Gnasher started in the upper rignt corner of the green square.

Seeing the gnolls emerge from their hidding place, Gnasher begins to laugh, Moving foward "Come cousin Gnasher give you death!" lifting his bardiche he begins to rage. His paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge as he begins to froth at the mouth. While his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it. Keeping himself against the wall of the canyon to keep from being flanked, he strikes at the Black Gnoll.

Rage: 1st/14, HP 62, AC 19, 30 ft move, Rage/enlarged Attack + 1 Bardiche, gnoll killer, power attack

Malgrim sees the group of gnolls and steps forward as water beads over his skin once more. He gathers the water in the air around him into a tight ball, empowering it it to fly at one of the gnolls.

Gather Power -1 Burn, Empower +1 Burn, Far shot lets me reach them. Shoot red. I will subtract the cover for shooting around Gnasher.

Water Blast w/Elemental Overflow -Cover: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 13

Damage, B, Water Blast w/Elemental Overflow: 3d6 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4, 5) + 8 + 2 = 24

If a 13 hits a large Gnoll, he will take 36 Bludgeoning Damage.


@Urah
With Gnasher moving forward you will not see them get within 50' until he is dead, most likely. If you take a standard to move forward, you will be able to get the three leaders in your bane spell. Heck, if you start next to Gnasher you can do a standard move, hide behind your hulking friend, and get all 4 in the bane. I'll assume that is what you do.

Black fails his save and feels the effects of the fearsome spell. The others, however, are lost in their fantasies of capturing and enslaving the lot of you.

Both Gnasher and Malgrim take their best shots but fail to connect.

DC 13 heal check:
You notice that the three larger gnolls are a bit beat up, like they were involved in a fight recently.

When you get closer you notice that the big gnolls are not like normal gnolls. Besides being larger, they all have a circular patch of thickened, grey scar tissue nestled in the filthy fur in the center of their foreheads. None of them are carrying weapons and their teeth and claws look unnaturally long. A


One of the hulking brutes advances on Gnasher, easily evading the attacks Gnasher had planned, and attempts to rip into his opponent.

In this one sided-battle, the gnoll hits with both claws and takes a sizable chunk out of Gnasher with his bite (unless his AC is actually higher than 19).

Tarak runs across the valley, lining up a shot and points a monkey finger at the gnolls while screeching and jumping up and down. Soon after a blast of lightning rips out from his outstretched finger.

The suviving extra large sized gnoll moves forward to engage Gnasher, taking a swipe with it's claw, though after the lightning he looks pretty badly injured.

The leader in the back snarls in anger when he loses one of his grunts. He starts whirling a scorpion whip impressively, cracking it over his head, and looking pretty alarming as he moves up, then lashing out at Gnasher.

Reeling from the three different attacks, the bloodied Gnasher drops his bardiche, snarling, "Yes finish this with tooth and claw." He then bites at the Red gnoll to his left. Following with rapid attacks with his claws.

Feeling much confident after watching the carnage distributed by Gnasher.

Urah preens and attempts to force the gnoll to back down, never mind the blood caking both of them. He was behind the wall of Muscle.

"Hey! Hey! Still wanna fight? Just give up will you? You're no match for us!"

And Yes, moving up to get them all in the Bane effect works.

intimidation contestation, language, odds: 1d20 + 16 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 16 + 4 - 4 = 18

He seems to know that you are trying to intimidate him, but he does not seem to know what it is you are saying and barks something back in gnoll. but seeing the odds arrayed against him tips the scale and he does look a bit flustered glancing back at his escape route.

Gnasher regenerates a HP and Malgrim really knits a few wounds together too. Gnasher is looking rather good right now. Meanwhile the remaining Gnoll is looking visibly nervous. Or is it just that hyena laugh?

Tarak again bounces up and down and points while making chimpanzee noises and flings poo lightning at the remaining Gnoll.

But its mostly flash and noise. I assume that missed

Tarak dos a MUCH less impressive lightning bolt than last time. One has to wonder if it was just an after image. The remaining gnoll steps back and starts acting all crazy -like, cracking his whip and looking quite impressive.

Remember that you can contest the intimidation with a skill instead of 10 + Hit Dice + Wisdom modifier. Malgrim, you were out of range and the display was wasted on you.

Watching as the gnoll retreated Gnasher was shaken by it's impressive display of Whippery. Intent on staying away from the whip as long as he could, Gnasher picks up his bardiche and swings it at the last surviving gnoll. After the attack he steps forward slightly hoping to keep the gnoll from fleeing.

Shaken Rage: 3rd/14, HP 32, AC 19, move action: picked up bardiche, Rage/enlarged Attack + 1 Bardiche, gnoll killer, power attack, shaken; 5 ft step.
attack: 1d20 + 12 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 12 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 22 for damage: 2d8 + 7 + 2 + 1 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (7, 7) + 7 + 2 + 1 + 6 - 2 = 28
I believe the 5ft step put gnasher close enough that if the gnoll retreats gnasher will get an AOO

He then draws a line across hie neck while looking at the gnoll.

this gnoll has a +16? I can't match that. that's more then double of mine.


Yea, trying to intimidate him is an exercise in futility. The best you could hope for is one round of being shaken with that roll. On a good day. But since you are intimidated and he no longer is, you are at a -2 and he would have shaken it off even if I rolled a 1. But the gesture... Apropos.

Intimidated or not, Gnasher has the instincts of a born killer and his bardiche is quite effectively employed.

It was Gnasher's fault. He got in the way. I mean even with precise shot, the guy IS a big rock.

I don’t have any skills that would be better than level + WIS

oppose intimidation: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 4 = 13

Somewhat awed by the gnolls display, Tarakpanzee again jumps and points and looses another bolt of electricity.

Ranged Touch, intimated, into melee: 1d20 + 5 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 2 - 4 = 9
Damage, Electric: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5


Tarak has similar issues and can't seem to find the gnoll behind Gnasher's bulk and only manages to put on a light show. Pretty, but useless.

Stepping back, the gnoll whips up some courage and strikes out at Gnasher again. The regeneration helps him out a bit, but he's taken a LOT of damage and is a bit wobbly.

Does that regeneration happen before or after you do your actions. If after, you are going to collapse unconscious if you attack.

He wasn't at -53 you never adjusted you stat sheet Here I believe he was only at -35. And I think I totally forgot about the fast healing, so 2 or 3 higher.

It's a good thing that first claw didn't hit. Things would have gotten messy. I'm betting that +42 should have been a +4-2. :)

But Gnasher does land one claw on him, but he is still standing and looking all menacing-like.

Malgrim continues to slowly move forward as he draws in water and sends another bolt at the gnoll.

5 ft step. Empower Blast +1 Strain, Gather Power -1 Strain. So no strain.

Water Blast w/Elemental Overflow : 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 1 = 19

Damage, B, Water Blast w/Elemental Overflow: 3d6 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) + 8 + 2 = 13

Terrible Damage roll. But if AC 19 hits he takes 19 Bludgeoning Damage.


Sooo close. Malgrim blasts off a shoulder pad but does no real damage to the gnoll.
