Tarak grunts, then asks, "Do we want to split up? We are already outnumbered. I say we draw them in and hit em with everything we've got. Hold a moment."

He will then draw a few scrolls and start casting. assuming we are kicking this thing off in a moment. Barkskin to bother Lupe and Gnasher (30 minutes) and bulls strength on Lupe (I think Gnasher can rage again?)for 3 minutes. I'll be holding a Stone Discus scroll and wishing I had gone with Flurry of Snowballs instead :)

Hearing that Tarak thought they should stay together, Gnasher wished he had taken the time to put his armor on, since out running the other gnolls was no longer an issue. Nodding to Tarak's age and experience, Gnasher says, "Tribe stay together, Tarak take moment, tell when ready. Then we approach gnolls."

Good to go. I wasn't planning on raging, if he needs to he can But at 18 str he should be good.

So, Tarak casts barkskin on Lupe and Gnasher, bull's strength on Lupe, and holding a stone discus scroll. The plan is to get as close as possible without being noticed and then launch an attack. We have Lupe (who has taken a form with darkvision), Gnasher, and Tarak, but not Casper or Urah in the ambush. Does that sound right? Speak now or forever hold your peace!

Brotus scratches her head and wakes Urah after waiting a bit, say 5 minutes. "Say, fellow, you really gonna let all them others go out there without you? Steal the glory and the loot?" You that tired?

The group heads off two men short, confident of their abilities and make their way through a veritable forest of cacti. Though they cannot see the gnolls, it is not hard to find the noisy buggers and eventually they come to a clearing where they see the gnolls surrounding a poor bloke staked to the ground. For some reason one of the gnolls is thwacking the ground near the guy with a large club.

Can you cast entangle and leave black and yellow out? Maybe violet and red as well. Either way get four or five in the entangle and we'll deal with the other three or four first. If gnasher attacks first, the first one coming at him from a distance has to go through an AOO

miteke are we close enough to be put on the map?

I have put up a new battle map. You can get to the fringe of the clearing without being noticed as they are
1) making a lot of noise
2) distracted

Put yourselves on the map in the box I just put there.

Finding a map of a cacti field with a clearing was next to impossible so use your imaginations and pretend all those trees are cacti. And the clearing is obviously cleared, not natural, for what it is worth.

Glowering from where he is, Urah glares at the offending gnolls in the distance.

It was because of them he was denied his sleep.

It was because of them that Bortus that fiend dumped him out of his cozy rest area and directed him to join the rest with no grace that he was here. His bum still ached from that not so gentle kick.
It was all the Gnoll's fault.

He was sleeping, roused awake and went back to sleep. Who knew that Borus had it in him to pick him up and tossed him outside and giving him a gentle kick to startle him awake. He would have burnt the man but his obvious muscular frame indicated that he would likely be the one losing this confrontation and thus the Upset fire wielder agreed.

And here it was.
All those gnoll's fault.

Now to burn them all.

Glancing from the gnolls torturing the prisoner to Casper, Gnasher twitches slightly when the little killer asks if 'they are friends of his' but doesn't respond to the insult. Rolling his eyes in a very human fashion. "How tribe efficiently dispatch?" He sees a tired looking Urah approaching, rubbing his eyes. Nodding approvingly Gnasher continues. "Same way tribe has: fire, storm and steel."

Pointing at the orange gnoll in front of him, Gnasher says, "When Tarak cast spell, Gnasher will kill him first, then go either left or right."

Seeing Tarak cast his spell, Gnasher rushes forward, lifting his fauchard high, bringing it down chopping into the orange gnoll.

By GM Caveat, Casper picks up a short bow before leaving. Feeling all beat up he has a pretty dang good excuse to hang back, which he does, and fires of an arrow at black, figuring him for the greatest threat. Unfortunately his aim sucks and he misses.

to hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

So I think the Fort ST happens at the end of their turn if they end their turn there. Entangle does not anchor, it just slows them down, 1/2 speed if failed save + difficult terrain, so 1/4 speed while in the entangled area if they fail, 1/2 speed if they save. When they move into (not through) the area they must make a new save or stop their movement. But those that start in the area are not anchored. Dang that is a complicated spell. I've had to redo this 12 times now and 1 1/2 hours after reevaluating the spell numerous times. Although it does not say so, I'm thinking they stop being entangled when they get out of the area. If I got something wrong blame it on Tarak. I think I hate you Tarak. Or the designers. Or both.

All of the gnolls bull their way forward as best they can (forging the move action to attempt to break free). Red and yellow do not make it far enough to get out of the area and have to deal with the grasping cacti again, this time with poison.

fort st yellow: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 2 = 19
fort st red: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Gnasher finds himself surrounded by gnolls desperate to get out of the grasping cacti and into battle, though a bunch of them get all scratched up. Only black gets a shot on Gnasher due to the distance.

to hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

That will hit and do damage, unless your AoO takes him out.

Grinning a very human grin, as he splits the first gnoll in two, Gnasher turns to face the nearing Black gnoll. Having given Casper the opportunity to finally use his sneak attack Gnasher is surprised when the little killer stays back for a ranged attack. Even more surprised as he draws out a bow instead of using the dead harpy's fancy ring.

As the Black Gnoll dodges the arrow and rushes Gnasher, he calls out to Casper. "Lose stupid bow! Use magic ring!" Then focusing on the black Gnoll he thrusts the fauchards tip into the oncoming gnoll.

Seeing the other gnolls easily work their way out of the thorns and thistles, Gnasher turns, ever so briefly, and looks at Tarak. Knowing that plans never go as expected he shrugs, and changes his tactics as well. Dropping the fauchard he begins to rage. His paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge and he begins to froth at the mouth. While his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it, giving a peculiar laugh.

Starting with the one directly south of him, he lashes out at the blue Gnoll with his left claw, blood flying. He then slashes with his right claw at the purpleone to the south west. @Tarak
Did you add in the inspire bonus from Lupe, or the penalty for firing into in melee? Considering all the minuses for firing into melee and your rather poor to hit, are you sure you would not want to move and toss that thing at one of the entangled gnolls? It would double your chances taking it from a 30% chance to a 60% chance (an effective +6 to your attack roll).

Where did the bless come from. Did I miss it? Or did you mean +1 from inspire?

Sorry, I did mean inspire, I changed it on the attack.

Doh! Yes, I forgot about into melee, I usually play melee characters or have that precise shot. Thanks for the Mulligan. How about Red then, and yes i also forgot the inspire. Guess thats what I get posting late at night. 17 to hit red then.

@Tatak
I adjusted the location of your icon to put you in range of red (I believe the range is 30' at your level)

Tarak sidles over to his left and tosses a disk with a sidearm motion. the whirling mass of earth sheds dirt fragments as it flies across the battle field, pelting gnolls and allies alike before it impacts with the hapless gnoll caught staring at his entangled feet. The result is not pretty and let's just say a lot of fertilizer is added to the pesh field.

Gnasher goes on one of his infamous rampages and lashes out in all directions. Suddenly the gnolls surrounding him realize that they made a big mistake as three of them go down in quick succession not including the one felled by the fauchard when it charged, bringing his total to 5 gnolls in a matter of 5 seconds. Luckily for them he has to take a breath.

The only thing louder than the screams of the gnolls are the screams of the staked out victim as the cacti continue to painfully claw him, but only because the gnolls screams are cut short.

Hearing the man's screams Tarak looks a bit embarrassed, even at his flush of excitement seeing the gnoll go down, yells out "I've got magic for that, patch you right up in a few seconds."

He just wanted to burn them so that he can head back to sleep.....

By the time Urah finishes his spell, brown is on the ground flattened by Lupe's pair of swings and unable to resist the flames. He is, shall we say, toast. Pink is caught totally flat-footed and is bathed in them leaving hairs melted down the the quick and feeling her mortality. Turning tail, she bolts to the northeast.

Yellow is a bit less wise, probably because she is just focusing on getting out of the writhing cacti, and engages Lupe. But by the time she has removed herself from the spell area she is too tired to attack. She looks around and feels like a dummy. A practice dummy.

The prisoner is still yelling his head off.

"Can anyone help me get to the prisoner?' Tarak barks as he sees and opening and a single doomed Gnoll facing Lupe and Gnasher, even as he moves forward he dismisses the spell causing the local flora to be so aggressive.

Half tempted to give chase to the fleeing Gnoll, Gnashers attention is turned back to the task at hand, hearing Tarak's voice. Dripping blood, Gnasher nods, "Gnasher help you, gnasher deal with this first." Almost spitting the word this from his muzzle, Gnasher steps towards the yellow gnoll that was not wise enough to flee.

Slashing with one claw the gnoll starts to drop. Unwilling or unable to stop, Gnasher slashes with the other claw. Then biting into the dead gnoll's throat, he shakes the creature like a dog shakes a ragdoll. Dropping the dead gnoll he releases the rage, blood dripping from his muzzle, he looks to Tarak. "Now tribe fetch captive."

not that it matters now, but you did have a +2 natural AC from Barkskin

I calculated it in already, no armor: + 2 dex, + 2 natural armor. + 2 barkskin - 2 rage. But thanks for reminding me, that's the sort of thing I forget about...

no problem, I'm going to have to try to remember to update posts with buffs/times when Tarak hands out buffs. probably not at the Market, I'm gonna go combat heavy spells.

Gnasher overkills yellow and plays with the corpse whild Tarak removes the writhing cacti from the equation, leaving everyone a mostly open field to run through. (Though, as mentioned before, it is not difficult terrain but there are enough things in the way so that a charge or run is not possible. Pink is the only gnoll left. She is a ways off and doing her best to get away.)

Lupe uses Wolf speed to close in on the create then gets him to try and trip. Though that does not work Lupe slashes.
