I've played with a GM that ruled if your ranged attack would hit the Target's AC but there was cover and you missed then you hit the cover instead. Suffice to say, I learned to not use a lot of ranged attacks with that gm. I kept hitting the other players.

Urah misses, but only because he had to shoot wide to avoid Casper. Tarak waits outside in the hall, afraid that all the crashing and banging and collapsing going on will draw attention.

Watching their backs, Tarak listens to the battle in the room, waiting to hear it end or something to tell him to jump back in.

Urah Pyr |

Quick as lightning, Urah is within the room frisking the still warm bodies for anything of worth.
He doesn't find much to his disappointment.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Need six rounds for Gnasher to not be fatigued.
Seeing the last enemy gnoll go down, Gnasher released the rage, returning to normal, or at least as normal as Gnasher gets. Kicking the carcass of the last gnoll, he returns to the first Gnoll he killed, crouching over the body. Drawing a knife he pries out the creatures canines. "Gnasher killed this one." Sounding oddly disappointed "Tribe help kill the others."
As his strength returns Gnasher drops the bloody teeth in his pouch, picking up his fauchard, he gestures towards the stairs. "Tribe looking for way to go up."

Tarak Stromblessed |

Tarak stays outside the room as the group looks over the dead gnolls and their card game, watching to see if anyone heard the ruckus.

"Alright then, guess we be movin' on then." Tarak says as he looks waits for the group to come out and falls in behind Gnasher, Lupe and Casper.

Lupe Fiasco |

Lupe stands vigilant after battle staring at the door. Knowing now that is his friend on the front line is depleted after each fight. Once Gnashers hair perks back up Lupe is ready to move on.
"I noticed another door on this floor should we got there?"
Marked with the red x.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Nodding in agreement with Tarak. "Yes tribe move on." As Lupe mentions a door Gnasher nods in a very human fashion. "Chief show way. Gnasher not see door."
As they head the opposite direction Gnasher sees the door way Lupe was speaking of and moves towards it checking it carefully.

An open arch leads to what must have once been a permanent shop. Empty shelves line the interior walls, and numerous partially collapsed and destroyed crates lie heaped on the floor. You search the rubble and find.. rubble. Among the debris is a pile of miscellaneous holy symbols and luck charms, none of them magical, all of which have seen a better day.

Quickly realizing the door was an empty shop, Ghasher backtracks to the doorway he had passed, inspecting that space as well.

speaking of unsearched rooms, you never did search C17.
True, so true. When Gnasher approached the door where the red 'X' was, could he see any futher north east of his location?
Having checked out the space like Lupe had suggested, Gnasher points to the other side. "Gnasher think stairs going up on that side." He then returns the way they came, stopping at the furthest room they had gotten to. C17 "Tribe check here then go on." Pausing in the room he quickly checks it for anything valuable.

I've updated the spoilers. I'm thinking that the light shining from the hole at the top clearly illuminates the center area, but the outer edges are illuminated by torchlight with the fringes of the sunlight, which limits your range to about 60', 120' with low-light vision.
C17 is a more opulently appointed room, with a large bed and a definite 'flame' motif. It does not take long to find a chest under the bed and, after taking all the necessary precautions, is opened to reveal about 2500 in coins and 4 gems.

Tarak Stromblessed |

Presuming our thief opens the chest Tarak whistles lowly at the chest of coin, "Nice haul there. Do we bother carrying it now or come back for it after we clear our this place?"

Urah Pyr |

Appraise 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
"We're rich!" Urah proclaims as his eyes fall upon the gems and coins.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Nodding in agreement with Urah, Gnasher turns to Tarak, "Take with us now." Taking off his pack, Gnasher ties the chest to the bottom of his pack, then slings the pack back on his shoulders. "Gnasher carry chest for tribe." He points at the 'fire motif, "Gnasher wonder who live here." Shrugging he heads out the door.
Moving along the inner circle in a clock wise motion he continues looking for the step that lead to the third floor.
Taking 10 (16) on perception, Gnasher has a carrying capacity at med weight of 200 lbs. he was carrying 94 lbs up until now, so I think he's ok with the chest.

Still no signs of stairs but you run into a much larger storefront (C10) than the last two, and one that seems to have seen recent use. Inside is a bizarre alchemical apparatus against the west wall in a maze of glass beakers connected by rubber tubes. Seven of these tubes project from the apparatus ending in syringe-like needles.
'Give me a skill roll you think might be appropriate if you want to figure out what the blazes the thing does.

Tarak Stromblessed |

Tarak eyes the odd contraption.
Survival?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Yeah, I got nothing that might help. Maybe Heal at +9, but I doubt that's any more useful than survival.

miteke |

Well, Tarak can tell that you can fill the center area with something and the device will distribute though the needles. Perhaps medicine? Though why you would want to do that for medicine is beyond you. Perhaps drugs?
You have heard of drug dens and this might come in handy if a group of people wanted to share a particular hallucinogen. That is about it.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

While Tarak explains what he learned about the odd machine, Gnasher grunts and wrapping his muzzle around the strange word. "Gnasher not want hallucinogen, Gnasher want kill gnolls."
As he speaks he makes his way to the door in the north west. Investigating the door for locks or traps. IF he finds no traps he will attempt to open the door.

"What is it, gnoll, do you hear anything?"

The pyromancer examines the contraption. A single glance tells him that it's utterly worthless!
"It's not worth anything. Just junk. The next room might have better stuff."

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Shaking his head no at Casper. "I know not Little Killer, office, papers, boring stuff."
Turning from the room and heading out the way he came. He looks at Lupe, making his recommendation. "Chief, let tribe leave things here." gesturing to the machine and the office. "Show Princess Almah when tribe give building to her."
Moving down the hallway as he nods in agreement with Urah comment. "Fire Starter right, find more gnolls kill dead."

Tarak Stromblessed |

"Hmmm, do we go down then?" Tarak asks from his customary place behind the melee fighters.

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Shaking his head no at Tarak's question. "Stairs lead down. Check third floor first, maybe chief of gnolls there. Tribe cut of head of snake first."
He gestures the way they were headed. "Check next room." Moving forward, fauchard in hand, Gnasher walks to the doorway of the next room.
It's less that a 30 ft move from where he was, can he have an attack readied?

Tarak Stromblessed |

The druid shrugs and follows the group, more and more convinced the boss might be downstairs with a sizable bodyguard after the ruckus they caused the night before, figuring if he was upstairs there'd be more of a force on this level.
Or not, what do I know of the land lubber's ways anyway.
They'd clear it all in due time, one way or another.

miteke |

The next room is also an old abandoned storefront. This one looks like it was some kind of restaurant from the looks of the debris. But STILL no stairs. Further on down the aisle you find rows of wooden bleachers positioned to offer an excellent view of the stage on the ground floor, about 20' below. A thin walkway bisects the stalls, separating what must have been general seating to the east from seating designed to accommodate a small orchestra. A few large drums with moldering skins stand at the forefront of the section, the only signs of the music that must once have filled the battle market.
Lupe catches a glimpse of something shiny and notices a silver flute under one of the moldering drums. It does not register magic, but a half decent appraise skill would reveal it's worth.
In the end, though, the level seems to be devoid of foes to fight, other than the guards you fought. though not at all a loss because of the treasure. depends on what is important to you, I guess.
But as you poke around the area, you are able to get a good view of a trio of thrones perched at the edge of the third level of the battle market (C15), separated from the edge by a short railing, and now occupied by a large man and a flind (a type of gnoll that Gnasher would be familiar with).
You are also able to get a good view of the middle of the first floor from you perch.
Though the two seated at the thrones look at you curiously, they make no move to attack or confront you. The human looking one fits the description of Kardashan who the harpy mentioned became the chieftain after defeating the old one and who gained entrance to the sealed off area of the church and came back different. Evil, mean, cruel, and no fun.

Lupe Fiasco |

Lupe whispers to the group, "Do you want me to talk to him? I don't see a way up. If it goes bad maybe we can challenge him. If any of you are good at talking that would be helpful."

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Angry that they had not found the stairway leading up, Gnasher glares at the two looking down upon them. Gnasher snarls softly almost spitting the words. "Chief do what chief want."

Casper "Pythonglare" Cantour |

Shaking his head no at Casper. "I know not Little Killer, office, papers, boring stuff."
Turning from the room and heading out the way he came. He looks at Lupe, making his recommendation. "Chief, let tribe leave things here." gesturing to the machine and the office. "Show Princess Almah when tribe give building to her."

Casper issues a feral grunt at the gnoll's offhanded reference to his smaller stature, whispering aggressively under his breath,
"Little enough for what killing needs to be done, of that I can well assure you, smelly."

'Gnasher' Red Claw |

Casper issues a feral grunt at the gnoll's offhanded reference to his smaller stature, whispering aggressively under his breath,
"Little enough for what killing needs to be done, of that I can well assure you, smelly."
Hey he called you 'killer' take it as a compliment. And the only part of Gnasher that smells is his breath :)
Grunting as well, Gnasher nods his head.

Casper "Pythonglare" Cantour |

Lupe whispers to the group, "Do you want me to talk to him? I don't see a way up. If it goes bad maybe we can challenge him. If any of you are good at talking that would be helpful."
Casper positively beams at Lupe's query, almost shoving the halfling aside as he strides proudly in front of him (though not so far, to be sure, as to leave him completely unprotected by his fellows should the offensive be renewed from an unexpected direction).
Making sure he has established firm eye contact with both of his conversants on the upper story, the rogue politely inclines his head to both, and then opens his arms in an intended gesture of openess and magniminity,
"I bring greetings, auspicious ones, from the noble enclaves of glittering Druma. The inestimable Prophecies of the Great Kalistrade assuredly enlighten the steps of all who walk in the way of their glory, and have led me and this humble company, by trial and tribulation to your dusty doorstep."
He pauses briefly, perhaps trying to gauge their reaction to his loquacious introduction,
"Know that I, Casperiosanthus Tareodale of the Noble Clan of Cantour of Druma have ventured hither with these," he gestures at the assembled, "earstwhile companions in the service of a trading venture conducted on behalf of the enigmatic Pactmasters of Katapesh. We bear you no unnecessary ill will, but have been engaged by the noble Lady Almah, an emissary of the aforementioned grandees of this nation, to redeem the use of this isolated outpost of civilization for their purposes."
Casper takes another gulp of air before continuing, having spit out the last bit without any pause,
"With the aforementioned in mind, we find ourselves and our purpose face to face with your persons. Now, there need be no further violence between our two parties -- you are no doubt aware that we have expeditiously dispatched a number of what I can only assume to have been your bondsmen, and are prepared to continue in the same. Yet, there need be no such need if you will only be reasonable, surrender your persons and treasure, and we shall be happy to take you under our auspicies in the garrisoning of this settlement, or dispatch you, without grievance, to whatever fate may hold for your beyond these walls."
"Otherwise," Casper gestures at Gnasher, "You shall leave us no choice but to do unto you as we have done likewise unto your kith and kin."

Tarak Stromblessed |

"Well, fish is outta the creole now." Tarak grumbles as the group is witnessed by the figures on the chairs.
As their thief launches into his speech, the druid stands back and listens.
