I'm sure you could light it on fire. It would not be as simple as tossing a match in it, but it is quite doable given 10 minutes of uniterupted effort or a lot of oil and 1 minute. The building is made of mostly stone and some wood. It is in pretty decent shape, probably due to the efforts of the harpy. I can just about guarantee, though, that a bunch of gnolls will come running and maybe more. That's what dice are for :) And then there is the whole mission thing of taking over the town. An intact town if possible you pyro. Was it also you that wanted to burn down the stables? Hmmm.

The building had doors that appeared to be on the second floor on opposite sides. I initially thought they were windows. But I assume she has at least two more exits than the one we used. If they are on the second floor I don't think were going to get them boarded up. So a fire would just bring the locals down on us while she escaped.

Hearing the harpy howl after them, Gnasher turns to Tarak, nodding, 'Yes what now?' Moving his muzzle oddly to pronounce the words, almost as if they taste bad. "Now Tribe watch for betrayal." He points to the window at the top of the Building. "She may come after tribe, or tell lover about tribe, or wait until tribe at disadvantage."

He looks from Lupe to Casper, wondering if he should address the fact that they were saying the exact opposite of each other. Shaking his head, he decided he liked the way gnolls selected a leader more than human methods. Bahram had told him Humans had many complicated ways of picking leadership. Mixing wealth, power and charisma into a concoction that eventually produced a leader. Gnolls just killed all rivals until only the leader was standing.

Disappointed that he didn't get the opportunity to kill the harpy the moment he opened the door. It would have solved so much. They would have found the keys on her body and in time figured out where they went. Now they were watching their backs until she played her hand.

Still very frustrated, Gnasher wanted to take his anger out on something. Staying on this side of the river he headed to the building where the horned beast lived. Carefully inspecting the building before he approached it.

Headed to B6,

No matter what deal or not was made with the harpy, Urah was just glad to be away.

Should he grow in power more, he'll back to introduce the harpy to the pain of fire! Yes. She would understand why for making such eyes at him. He still shudders at the thought....

Gnasher's suggestion though.........didn't sound any better.

Tarak follows after the gnoll, eyes occasionally to the sky to watch for threats and seek inspiration, thinking thoughts, quite unbeknownst to him, oddly similar to the gnoll's.


After a few rounds of screaming the harpy (it takes a while to get past the intimidation) comes darting out of the tannery from a window on the second floor and dive bombs Casper.

She lets a brown bomb loose from a height of 60' and the foul concoction sails down into the midst of the party (missing Casper) and fragments with a loud *splat*. Almost an echo to Gnasher's proclamation, she makes her own proclamation, oh so eloquently ...

"You will pay for your treachery!"

Fresh out of bombs she heads over to the battle market, probably to tattle on you.

did Gnasher get close enough to B6 for that perception check?

Watching the Harpy fly towards the center of town, Gnasher pauses. Pointing to the building the Peryton was seen in. He lulls his tongue in a gnoll smile. "Harpy go to warn gnolls. Think tribe going to other building. Maybe tribe should return to Harpy's lair. Wait for her near windows." He shrugs. "Gnoll probably not look for tribe there."

So do we want to go back and wait for her? Or go fight the Peryton or head out of town?

I was going to see if the rest of the party wanted to go along with your plan to take on the Peryton, and, if they do, if they want to prep any buffs before you get sniffing too close.

Tarak nods, "That about sums it up. But to be fair she never said she wanted the poison from the snakes head, she could have just wanted it dead. Or at least I didn't hear her mention that.". Taking a glance to the sky.

"So we kill this bird thing that was hunting you and head back for the night? Gnolls will be ready for us at any case, gonna be a fight for that market."

Hearing the chief say to head to the Peryton, then get out of town. Gnasher nods. Trapping the harpy in her own lair was a good idea but risky. He understood if the chief didn't want to do it. As for lying, the chief would need to talk to Casper about that, Gnasher rarely lied, the truth was too much fun.

When Tarak commented about the head, Gnasher gives a very human like smirk. They all knew she wanted the poison, even if their actions did not break the letter of the law. Gnasher only regrets not running in the building and killing her as soon as he opened the door to her lair. Maybe next time.

Grunting in agreement, "Kill bird thing. Get out of town." Gnasher continues hustling towards the building.

How many more rounds to the building, Following the path I count approx, 8 diagonal squares from B7 to B6, 180 ft or 60 yards, but at Gnashers speed, if we've used one round, that still leaves two rounds to get there. At Tarak's speed, four and a half :(


That sounds about right. Each square is 15 feet so that puts your distance estimate spot on. Are you going in guns blazing or trying to sneak up on it, because the amount of time will be very different depending on your approach. And is anyone pre-buffing before you get near?

Gnasher has a sling, and several knives. I don't think the poison would work with bludgeoning damage, and I don't see him throwing knives. Out of curiosity, why not post in character?


You could get a shortbow or two from camp. The mercenaries and guards would have such things if you needed one.

if the others want them, With his str. Gnasher would do more damage with the sling and he'll be hard to convince to use poison. He's assuming the thing will have to fly within range to attack so he should be able to hit it with his reach weapon.

When Lupe asked if anyone was good with ranged weapons, Gnasher assumed someone would offer a weapon. Not surprised when Urah and Tarak said their magics would serve them better than weapons. Gnasher looked toward Casper and Felliped when neither of them chime in, he shrugs in a very human like manner. "Gnasher have sling and daggers. If chief only magic one, do sling." Giving a feral grin, "Lead bullet hit real hard."

Looking at Casper's punching daggers, Gnasher gestures to them. "Them not good for throwing." Pulling out a long narrow double edged throwing dagger, Gnasher extends it to Casper. "Gnasher have several knives good for throwing if Casper want to borrow."

Hey Casper, Gnasher wouldn't use the poison, but would let you use his knives. I was looking at your page to see if you had any ranged weapons, I didn't see any equipment listed. What weapons are you carrying, or at least, what weapons are visible? You did a nice job describing his features, but I was trying to imagine his gear as well.

When we are close Lupe will cast magic weapon on Gnasher's sling and give him 30 extra medium bullets.

"I'm going to be chanting to help you out but I might be acting defensively if I am its focus. We should spread out with me in the middle as we approach."

Holding his sling out in one hand, Gnasher accepts the other stones in his other. Tucking them in his belt, "Tribe spreading out is good. Gnasher head straight to door, try and catch beast on ground." Gnasher then runs straight for the door, relying on speed instead of stealth,

Tarak spreads out, but keeps within range (20') of Gnasher ready to send a magical bolt of frozen ice at the thing if it shows it's face.


Like an angry mob the group rushes the mill, intent on spending as little time in the open as possible.

Luckily for you it seems a bit preoccupied and you reach the door before it notices you. Unluckily for you, some of you burst though the door right after it notices you. You hear the sound of large flapping wings and look up to see the monster perched on the wall containing the door.

For those of you who have not yet seen the thing, it has a wolf's head, complete with prodigious amounts of drool coming from its fanged mouth and disconcerting blood red eyes. Atop this predator's head is a rack of antlers all pointy like and lethal looking. Its front legs are hooved, but it's back legs have huge talons reminiscent of the harpies. It does not look happy to see you. The reason is in the far corner of the room - a nest. Though from the looks of the thing it would have a mad on for you regardless of where it met you. It does explain why it played cautions the last time you all met. But now you are in it's lair, and that CANNOT be tolerated.

Place your icons on the map in the red box. Some of you have burst into the mill while some of you are outside. Naturally Filliped is outside and lagging behind as is his habit. The Peryton is 20' over you all and perched on the wall. The roof is gone so it can see all of you.

He takes a position where he can see everyone but yet remain hidden as much as possible.

It seems Urah opted for option B, place your icon outside the box? I guess that is OK.

Miteke it looks like the nest is on a second floor balcony, is that correct.

Seeing the creature on the wall, looking from them to it's nest, Gnasher opens his mouth in what looks like an attempt at a smile. Holding his Fauchard in both hands he says, "I do not think it will abandon it's nest."


That is correct. It is where you saw it's antlers sticking up as you approached so it is pretty high up.

Seeing the beast glare at them, Gnasher begins to rage. His paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge and he begins to froth at the mouth while his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it. Giving a peculiar laugh, he quickly moves towards the steps intent on drawing the Peyton to him. Heading towards its nest, "Tribe stop beast, Gnasher kill young!"

The peryton has 'flyby' does this mean it gives a possible AOO coming and going? If it uses flyby, can Gnasher use the readied attack on the approach, and an AOO when it leaves? Assuming he's still alive to do so?

Thanks for pointing that out.

Gnasher certainly catches it's attention. The beasts focus is entirely trained on Gnasher at the moment.
