"Absolutely not!. Well, not like that particular part..."

At that moment dinner is announced and the guests move towards the dining room. Rayhan waits until everyone is seated (additional chairs are brought in as necessary), before he taps a spoon against a crystal wineglass and raises a toast.

"Welcome, honored guests! Kakishon has long been a place of myth and legend. Some scholars had turned away from the notion of this place after convincing themselves that the place was pure legend and did not truly exist. I distinctly recall the suspicion I felt just a few days ago when these fine folk arrived with what they believed was the Scroll of Kakishon itself. After seeing so many charlatans and forgeries in my life, it was hard to believe at first—but I believe what these folk have brought me may indeed be the real thing. I complete my research and appraisal in a few days, at which point we can talk prices. For now, though, let this toast be for the heroes who have brought to Katapesh a piece of history!"

The guests all raise their glasses and toast the PCs, after which the food is served. Eramin brings out plates of aromatic sliced meats, vegetables and fruits from the garden, salads, bread, and fine wine until the dining table is covered completely. Once the food is served, the table erupts into conversation. Some of the guests ask how closely Rayhan has examined the map and if he’s figured out how to activate it yet. Others want to know what the party intends to do with the map. Marzuk states that he simply cannot fathom the notion that they would wish to keep it, given that there are so many others who have been waiting lifetimes for a chance to learn its secrets. Fester eats heartily and recounts tale after tale, but is also very interested in the tales the heroes tell too. Yet at no times do any of the guests make offers—they’ve already stated their offers to the PCs, after all, and haggling and bargaining at a dinner party is considered crass.

Note: The module gives XP for successful entertainment attempts, but since we give levels based on milestones, instead I will award 1000gp spending money for each DC 25 success. Perform checks can be used for things like music, acting, and dance. Knowledge checks should be used for lectures. Balance or Tumble should be used for acrobatic displays. Intimidate checks should be used for displays of martial prowess, and Spellcraft for displays of magical power.

Seif-al-Din attempts to give a lecture on comparative religion, talking about Sarenrae, Abadar, and Nethys...

...but after tugging at the strands of fate, it is surprisingly well-received.

Wanting to keep an eye on the woman who was grilling Seif about his talents, Gnasher makes sure he sits beside the woman dressed in white and green, Kazim. As the meal progresses, he gets more and more frustrated. Wishing the woman really was the Div so she could show these fools what they'd had to deal with. He turns towards her, not caring div or human, unable to control his rage. His paws grow into overly large claws, his eyes glow red, his fangs enlarge, and he begins to froth at the mouth. While his brown hide takes on a red-orange cast to it. Growling "Tribe told fools scroll not for sale, but Rayhan insist tribe have party."

Almost spitting their hosts name, he grips the fine oak table with both paws. Crushing into the tables edge leaving claw marks on both sides of his plate. Looking from the woman claiming to be a priestess of Abadar to the damage he's done to the table. He lets out a peculiar laugh Then pushes back from the table. Standing he heads towards the kitchen to find a bone to chew.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Now I have to figure out how to get him back in the room. I think he'll find a bone, and return to the table chewing it. But that will be the next post :)

The guest first look bored, then impressed with Seif's lecture as each of them, including Kazim, learn something new. Kazim claps the most enthusiastically which is a compliment indeed as he has been mostly reserved during the party. At first the guests are shocked by Gnasher's antics, but when Fester leaps to his feet and cheers (and does not get mauled), the others loosen up and give a much more restrained huzzah, though they still look a bit bewildered.

"All part of the act, Urah insists, before he begins his own performance involving escaping from some handcuffs."

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

Unfortunately Gnasher's outburst has completely unnerved him and it takes far too long for him to get out of them, in fact through the entire 5th course, delaying the arrival of the 6th.

Nice! Two successes which nets you a bonus 2000 gp to spend on your shopping spree.

Having calmed down as he wandered to the kitchen Gnasher found a large beef bone that had been set aside for soup. Giving the cook an intimidating glare he collects the large bone and returns to the dining area. Sitting back down beside the potential Div, he bites into the bone causing a large crackling sound. Leaning over to the woman who called herself Kazim he ask, "Gnasher miss anything important?"

Once the meal is over, the group retires downstairs to the parlor, which has been set up to accommodate whatever form of additional entertainment the PCs have decided to provide to the guests. Bottles of wine are opened and drinks flow liberally among the guests during the PCs’ performances. Malgrim impresses the guests and you make a clean sweep of things (apart from Urah's nervous attempt).

Finally the guests leave (and, contrary to metagamed anticipations, without issues).

You all have a couple of days of peace before anything happens to do your purchases (including the 3000 gp bonus for your performances).

Could you make a list of the purchases you make?

You are all bedded down in the guest rooms at midnight when they hear the horses crying out from the stables.

@Seif
Please place an icon on the map for Shadow.

After throwing open the door, the poor thug is met by an intimidating screech and a face full of fur. Seif's bud, Shadow, does a fine job of subduing the guy. If the bite/claw/claw/rake/rake hadn't taken him down, he probably would have passed out from fright. Though I don't think shadow knows what 'Kill' really means as his/her attacks were mostly paw pads.

Syn laughs and waves at your group with a wink. Thousands of wasps appear and start gnashing on Malgrim and Seif and, yes, some of the thugs. After her 'present' she lifts off and disappears upward.

Malgrim steps back, gathers the power of water in the air and sends a spindle of water exploding on two swarms and two thugs.

Five ft step back. Gather Power, Empower and do a Spindle striking the two swarms and the two thugs currently in the swarms. It hits a 5 ft by 10 ft area. I will use my saved burn, Gather Power and Infusion Specialization to take zero Burn on this attack. The Spindle does half damage then times and a half for Empower.

Reflex DC 16 (Reflex +4 + Lvl 2 Power) for Half Damage- Damage, B, Water Blast w/Elemental Overflow , PBS: 3d6 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (1, 6, 4) + 10 + 4 = 25

So half of 25 gives 12 damage. Empower takes it back to 18 magical bludgeoning damage or 9 if they make the DC 16 reflex save. Any bonus damage for hitting the swarm with an AoE is not included in these numbers.

swarm reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11, 27 damage

Malgrim wisely retreats from the swarm and sends a bifurcated blast of water into the churning mass of wasps. His brutal use of water reduces the swarms targeted significantly, though they still persist, but the thugs drop where they are doomed to suffer the continued attentions of the wasps. Ironically their only hope is that the heroes disperse them.

@Malgrim
Check out the map. The only thugs in the swarms are the two that are passed out. Please mark the two squares you are targeting.

@Gnasher
You take out the targeted thug. I have not been giving cover because of the swarms.

I did not realize they were unconscious. So I will hit the two swarms without hitting the thugs. Thanks for clarifying that.

If I am thorough, I will turn the icon sideways if they are unconscious so it may be apparent on the map.

Malgrim scatters the two swarms in the main room, leaving only the swarm sharing the room with Seif and Shadow.

Yowling in annoyance, Shadow flees the swarm, and takes out their frustration on the closest thug.

Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30, for 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 non-lethal damage.
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29, for 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 extra non-lethal damage.
Grab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20.

With the bugs gone from the main room, Shadow is able to escape their painful bites and pursues a thug. He latches onto a thug and shakes his limp body vigorously. Malgrim looks out his door and all he can see is tiger.

The nauseated condition only lasts one round as far as I can tell, so Seif can take an action.

I'm good for the moment. There is a swarm between me and the rest of the party, in any case.

The remaining swarm stays put, looking angrier than ever.

In a last ditch effort to hold off the defenders, the thugs run at shadow and try to put the hurt on her.

Yea, no. The well armored tiger doesn't even get a hair cut. She sits there glaring at them, perched atop two of the thugs flattened under her hind quarters and one of them still gripped firmly in her mouth.

Releasing his rage for the moment, Gnasher picks up his bardiche and runs to the front door. Looking out the door, he yells out, "Mute girl show yourself! Let us end this tonight!"

Concerned by the fact that they have not seen hide nor hair of either their host, nor any servants, Seif-al-Din goes looking... fearing the worst.

Gnasher heads towards the front door and finds that Syn is nowhere in sight.

Seif knows that he can probably get through the swarm with minimal pain. On the other hand, if they are agitated enough, they tend to follow their victims, though these do not seem to behaving like that. So where does Seif head?

(AC 26/17/20; HP 113/113; Fort +10, Ref +14, Will +11; Init +9, Perception +0, CMD 16) Samsaran Oracle (Dual-Cursed) 12

From a metagame perspective, I appreciate that the swarms probably can't move, but Seif-al-Din does not know that :-P

Seif-al-Din crawls out of the window, and heads around to an alternate ingress point.

Seif slides the window open and crawls out. Does shadow do anything or would she wait for Seif to give her instructions.

Malgrim, where are you headed? Or did you want to finish off the remaining swarm?

You return finding Shadow playing with her new toys. The wasps are still buzzing about in Seir's room.

Seeing Tamar disappear in a puff of smoke, Gnasher snarls, "We hunt down halfling."

Remembering the halfling had been a guest a the party, he asks, "Did anyone speak to halfling? Maybe learn anything about Halfling?"
