You all go to the cage like thing and the little elemental reports back to Tarak in a squeaky (well, squeaky for an earth elemental), nervous voice that there are other earth elementals bound to the cage and that they will lift and lower the cage is asked. Even a meaningful gesture will work. It eyes Tarak suspiciously, not liking the disturbing and sad state of its countrymen.

As the elemental begins to communicate with Tarak, Gnasher looks from the creature to the creator. Not wanting to interrupt, he bites his lip waiting to hear what they have learned.

No matter how squeaky the elemental is. All Urah hears is the flow of sand in a high pitch over bubbling water. This elemental must be quite young he deduced.

He waits for the Tarak to translate though the sounds coming from him as well as he speaks should not be possible. In his little Opinion that is.


I'm going to assume Tarak communicates things and you all give the order to descend. See the map under "Current Tactical Map". During the descent the summoned elemental vanishes.

The bound elementals reshape the stone and a spiral staircase forms that winds down for 100 feet to the top of a huge pillar, around which more stairs run down to the ground of a vast, natural cavern.

This cavern glitters and shines from what appears to be a king’s ransom. Well over a hundred feet across and fifty feet high, the floor of the cavern is a sea of gold coins, lush carpets and tapestries, statues, weapons, armor, immense gemstones, and glittering artifacts. Spaced somewhat evenly with 5' gaps between them is a path of stepping pillars that rise above the treasure. In the bottommost step where Gnasher currently stands is an inscription carved into the stone. The top of each pillar has an inscription too, though they are runes and not a normal language.

Read Inguan:
The inscription on the bottom step says "So shall you be devoured". Can you say ominous?

DC 20 Knowledge Religion or Arcane:
The runes are symbols meant to imprison undead spirits.

His eyes widening as the bound elementals reshape the stone formin a spiralling staircase, Gnasher, bardiche in hand, cautiously moves down the stairs. Seeing the gold ladened room it reminded him of a dragons hoard. Nodding in agreement with Malgrim, "Ghost right, tribe be cautious." He then asks, "Can anyone read gliffs?"

Seeing the stepping pillar that rises above the gold, he points to it with the bardiche, "Maybe tribe should not walk on dragon hoard?" Leaning out, he taps the top of the 'pillar' with the blade of his weapon.

How high are the 'tops' of the pillar'? Can we 'step' to it, or are they too high?

His manner makes it seem like a joke but it's clear that Urah is measuring how far the exit is from here.


The pillars are just above the level of the treasure, allowing you to hop from pillar to pillar on a DC 10 acrobatics/standing jump check.

As soon as Gnasher disturbs the stone, you hear shrieking, and out from 4 of the pillars 4 ghostly forms come soaring in your direction upon a front of roiling storm clouds, their skeletal torsos cloaked in tattered wrappings. Powerful winds seem to lash about the specters, and malevolent embers flare within their eye sockets as their claw-like fingerbones reach forth. Knowledge Religion to identify

The lead specter rushes forward and lets out a disturbing moan that chills you to the bones.

The greedy spectres do not want to allow even a single one of you to escape. One of the spectres chases after Urah and unfortunately for him, it is much faster and not trying to climb stairs. Flying to the stairs above Urah it moans at him. The good news is that since the others are too far away, it will not affect them. The bad news is that if he fails he is now frightened.

Slightly confused, it does not look like any of the ghosts are near enough to attack, did the one chasing Urah give up an AOO? Just in case

Seeing the specter shoot past him after Urah, Gnasher takes a swing at it. Returning his attention to the large room, he thrust his bardiche into the gold pile to see if it was safe to walk on, then readied his weapon in case the enemy draws near.

Corrected combat card. These things are incorporeal. How does that affect your blast? Their AC is pretty weak so that will hit and I just need to know how the blast deals with incorporeals.

The specter pursuing Urah came from the west and did not trigger an AoO. The one who moaned at you is 20' north of you and feeling pretty confident it is out of your range. If only the stairs were bigger :)

So they are magical attacks. I have the physical attack which does bludgeoning damage. So basically, I chucked a big magical boulder of water at it. So it takes the damage as if it was a magical bludgeoning weapon, which I believe means it will take half damage as it is not a force or positive energy attack. So the 30 gets halved down to 15 damage.

The gold shimmers and you can see behind the images a sloshing greenish liquid. The double vision is a bit eerie as the illusion is actually masking the sound as well as the sight.

Ignoring the screams, Tarak hurls a ball of elemental cold at the ghost thing Malgrim smacked with a water boulder.

Corrected issue with allocating damage to black instead of blue.

Tarak's snowballs go wildly awry, sailing off into the darkness, any noise of impact drowned by the moaning and sounds of combat.

Red and Green move forward to spread terror, loosing two more moans for the group to deal with (prompting another round of saves as directed below) while Blue moves onto the stairs to engage Malgrim and cut off the escape of any other would be escapees. His thick armor is unable to save him from the icy touch though he barely feels it.

Swearing in Celestial on how unfair it was it had to be him, Urah pauses in mid rant and tosses a spell at the specter! He just remembered that he a spell he could put to good use!

He swears once more when he notices the spell missing......


Indeed, poor Urah is not having a good day as the moans work there way into his brain, nearly causing him to jump off the stairs in order to get away. The next thing he knows is that he is being buffetted by severe winds trying to push him down the stairs.

Black Specter is using control winds to blow Urah (or anyone else trying to climb the stairs) down the stairs. According to the rules this is like a gust of wind spell. It will not knock you off the stairs but it will make moving up the stairs difficult.

Seeing some sort of image behind the gold, Gnasher, shaken by the specters moaning, nervously warns the others, "Tribe beware, gold illusion, hiding green liquid."

Shaken: A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.


@Gnasher, don't forget you have an action coming to you. Suggestion: At this level it is a good idea for melee characters to have a potion of fly or air walk handy, a particularly timely suggestion since you will be levelling up soon. Every once in a while the scenario writers like to throw a battle at you where the environment makes the combat a tough one even if the enemies are less powerful and this is one of those.

Malgrims weapon sails right through the shroud of the deceased making no discernable effect on it. Gnasher, somehow stuck at the back of the pack waves his bardiche threateningly at the specters, who, for now, seem to be honoring his personal space.

Again shaking off the effects of the moans, but stuck in the middle of the pack and unable to unleash most of his most dangrous magic on the nearest spectre, the druid eyes two of the others, lined up just so and launches out a blast of lightning.

Taking advnatage of theserendipitous arrangement of spectres, Tarak unleashes one of his lightning bolts. And for creatures that look like they live in a storm and move so quickly, they sure don't seem to like it. At all. Both of them dissipate with the glow from the lightning bolt leaving no signs of their presence at all, except for the implosion.

As two of the specters are destroyed, Gnasher realizes that the implosion has weakened him. Not able to push through his friends, Gnasher holds the bardiche ready, in case the opportunity to attack the specter presents itself.

Ignoring the effects from the poison and wanting to get out of Gnasher's way, Tarak focuses and shifts into an eagle, immediatly taking wing up and out of the way.

Fly up over Gnasher and like 10 feet away from the stairs.


Malgrim needs some training in fighting incorporeals in hand to hand, apparently, as he once again passes his waterblade through stormy fluff. Urah too is struggling with facing these things, first succumbing to the implosion and losing a fair bit of health, and then surrendering to the fear in him as he makes a bolt for the top of the stairs, rushing by the sentry waiting for him, though it seems surprised and takes a belated swing at him that totally misses.

Gnasher gnashes his teeth in frustration as he is still unable to engage the foes. I did not see a fort save from the implosion. The damage is not automatic.

Tarak shifts into an eagle and takes to the air to remove himself from the vicinity of any more implosions.

The specters make their moves, one of them pursuing Urah and the other engaging Malgrim.

Shaken by the events at hand, Gnasher watches as Tarak takes to the air and Urah flees. Getting a grip on himself, Gnasher moves closer to malgrim, and thrusts the bardiche at the specter on the other side of his friend.

Shaken: –2 penalty5 ft move action ups steps, I'm assuming the specter is at the same level as Malgrim, but I've not calculated in the 'cover' + 1 BArdiche, power atack, shaken

Flying in an arc, Tarak tosses as lesser lightning arc at the specture stubbonrly surviving both Malgrim and Gnasher's onslaught.

Urah's screams are starting to merge into the ethereal quality of the Spector's moans as he somehow dodges attacks continues running.

He has quite a set of lungs.

Urah just manages to make it to the top of the stairs with the caged area in sight, though not without another scratch as the specter gets a good jab in as Urah runs away. Now that he is there, though, some of the panic wears off and he finds himself more in control of himself.

Tarak is not able to land another bolt, again, though he does make a tempting target flying around like that. How far up is Tarak from the ground??

Woohoo- I hit an AC of 21 for 36 damage which gets halved to 18.


Gnasher and Malgrim tag team the specter harassing them and obliterate it, which means another implosion. On the bright side that gnawing dense of doom immediately disappears for Gnasher.

Near the top of the stairs, the specter moves up to join Urah again and taps him with that frigid touch.
