Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Elnaril will go all out for this fight. Bull's Strength on Parvo, Jeeves and Whisper. Shield on Parvo (last first level)and Resist Energy (Fire).
"I've got another idea. You see Parvo here is pretty tough and with my spells he's even tougher. What if Parvo jumps into the middle of the orcs while Jeeves is freeing the captives to draw them in while Seltyn fireballs the crowd. Parvo can take it." Fire resist 20 even if it fails the save(evasion). And don't forget Whisper and Eldric gets mage armor as well. However after this Elnaril is completely tapped out.
Sounds good to me. He can fly in and cover Jeeves's getaway. Seltyn has scrolls of Displacement and Fly, and will cast Haste on everybody. Want me to cast Mage Armor on Parvo, too? Seltyn will stay away from the battle.
Once we are on a map, we can list all the spells we'll be under and position ourselves. Seltyn will cast Haste right before we get busy. He has a 5th lvl scroll of it, too, if 7 rounds isn't enough.
He'll cast it on our 5 warriors, Elnaril and Mazrak. He'll cast Greater Invis on himself, and if they get too close, he can D. Door away and keep blasting. Yes, this is fun!

Horek Varshot |

Horek nods eagerly. "If we attack at range to begin the battle, I have arrows that will cause great harm to the ogres, but I feel as though we should focus on the frost giant first. I deem that one to be the most dangerous - beyond the sheer numbers of the orcs and their dire boar allies - though it sounds as though your spells that rain fiery death among the enemy will account for many of them. We should find a defensible place and only break cover if the prisoners are threatened. Otherwise, let them come to us."
OOC: OK, so I'm seeing that we buff the heck out of ourselves with magic, then send Jeeves down under cover of Invisibility and disguised as an orc to free the captives and lead them to safety. If/when he is discovered and an alarm is raised, we start sending fireballs and arrows at the bad guys, as well as Parvo and a summoned fire elemental? Hopefully the fireballs will take care of most of the orcs and maybe kill or at least very badly wound most of the dire boars and the ogres as well if they aren't too awfully spread out. Focus the fire elemental and Horek's arrows of Giant Bane on the frost giant and keep him away from the mammoth. Then maybe just let them come to us, if we have cover from rocks and the like - which might give us another round or two of ranged attacks and spells before the front-liners engage the survivors in melee combat?

Jeeves the Inimitable |

OK, if I am to sneak down can someone cast it on me? I have the spell, but would rather leave myself an extract of CMW. Also how is the camp set up? How many would I have to sneak past to get to the captives? Is there any chance of getting the captives out alive, or will they immediately be killed by the orcs?

Mazrak the Forlorn |

Mazrak listens to Horek, "I agree. We will last longer if we can keep our distance."
Once we see the lay of the land, we can make final plans. I am not sure I like the idea of sending Jeeves out separately. It kind of reminds me of a horror movie. We can free the prisoners after the Orcs, Ogres, and Giants are defeated. They likely will not be worrying about their prisoners, as they will be worrying about us.

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

I think you're right. We can forget about Jeeves's subplot, now that we can see the layout. They'll be too busy to worry about a few prisoners. This is a great opportunity to clear the land of this scourge.
Just gotta learn how to work Roll20.

Mazrak the Forlorn |

When Mazrak first sees the size and numbers in the encampment, he whispers to anyone near, "That's a bunch. Are we ready to take on that many at once?"
The Dwarf Oracle is used to one or two at a time alone. Maybe a dozen or so with a party this sized.
"Hmmm!. How about a diversion to lead as many away from the main group? I could cast an illusion of some kind to lead a group away from the main group. I doubt all would chase."

Horek Varshot |

Horek nods thoughtfully at Mazrak's suggestion. "It probably would, but then the entire camp would be alerted. Most are sleeping now, and I would keep it that way until we strike fast and hard. Summoning a fire elemental in their midst should be distracting enough as we launch our assault." The plainsman looks at Seltyn. "If you can deal fiery death from a distance and thin their numbers of the orcs and boars, I will concentrate on the giant. We can draw the survivors toward us, if we can. Otherwise we will take cover from their arrows and the giant's thrown boulders then charge the camp once your fires have died away. Do you have other thoughts on this? I am more used to skirmishes than full-blown battles - but I've learned a thing or two form the mercenary companies I have scouted for over the last couple of years."
GM, do we have places to take cover up here? I'm guessing there are boulders aplenty for us to take cover behind as we attack at range. I'd still like for an invisible and disguised Jeeves to head down there and free those prisoners first, leading them back toward us for their safety. We can launch our attack if he is discovered or wait until the prisoners have joined us. For that matter, Jeeves can probably spy on the leaders a bit to overhear something interesting maybe.

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

I like it, but there's 1 caveat. Jeeves can get there and get them out easily enough, but they will be visible, making noise, and unable to defend themselves. I think they'll be safer in the wagons until we're done with the monsters. If any monsters approach the wagons, Seltyn has a Wall spell that will discourage them.
Jeeves is a good trip fighter with a lot of moves. I think he can take down quite a few enemies while Eldric and Horek work on the giant, starting with the ogres he's talking to. They're probably the leaders, and may be tougher than the others. Let's hope they've had a lot to drink! :D
That would also leave a slot open for another fireball, if we need it. We may burn up all our spells before this is over, but it's worth it.

Horek Varshot |

OOC: Makes sense. So leave the prisoners where they're at, protect them with that wall spell if the enemy goes to kill them as retribution. Do we still want to send Jeeves down there as a spy to find out what they're talking about? Can he understand Giantish (or be made to understand it if not?) Or do we just launching arrows and fireballs immediately? And if we do just attack now, are we all staying together as a group where we're at?

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Yes, he speaks Giant. I don't think we'd find out much by spying on them, though. Everyone has to be in range (40') when Seltyn casts Haste, but after that, we can move how we want, very fast. I say we just fire away until there are not many left, then the fighters close and finish off whatever's still standing.
I think Eldric wants to run up and just start beating on the guy right away. At least I hope so, because that would look really cool. Jeeves can hang back and fire arrows, or go with Eldric and be a great wing man for him. If you're in melee, Jeeves is the guy you want next to you. Parvo will kick some serious ass, too. He can fly around and pick off anything giving us trouble, like archers and such. Let's not let anyone get mounted on a dire boar. That would be bad.
Seltyn will pre-cast a number of spells before we start:
Mage Armor 70 min.
See Invis 70 min.
Message (everyone who can talk) 7 min.
Shield 7 min. (Now AC 24)
Mirror Image: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 images, 7 min.
I'm assuming we're far enough away to not be heard. Hopefully, there's at least partial cover nearby. They'll want to kill the guys casting fireballs and shooting arrows at them. At least I would!
Seltyn will start the party by casting Haste on everyone except himself. You guys start shooting or charging or casting, and he'll just cast fireballs until he runs out, then cast his other spells.
I know that sounds optimistic, but I think we can pull it off. The only sketchy part is that ogres are big, and they hit hard, and the boars are nasty, too, but they may not do much if no one's riding them. That's what Seltyn is thinking, anyway. Are we all aboard?

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Seltyn's got a scroll of Displacement that will last 5 rounds. That will be down to 4 rounds after he casts Haste, but Eldric will get a 50% miss chance for a few rounds after. He'll do that.
Seltyn draws a scroll from his haversack and casts Displacement on Eldric before he Hastes the party.
Not sure how this will go, but it'll be anything but dull!

Mazrak the Forlorn |

Armor of Bones likely expired.
Mazrak will bring up a Shield of Faith prior to combat.
He will survey the situation before casting his Minor Image to start the action.

chillblame |

OK, your characters are set and you should be able to move them yourselves. We will operate on roleplay mode until combat starts, as there may be some sneaking involved. Could everyone who wants to make a perception check, noting that due to distance, there will be penalties. And if you want to sneak closer to make a perception roll, place your character where you want it to be and make a stealth check as well.

Mazrak the Forlorn |

Mazrak says, "I can set up an illusion behind then of a suddenly appearing Fire Elemental. I can make it sound like a roaring fire. I can keep it up as long as I am concentrating on it. I could also make it appear around an exploding Fireball."
Mazrak can create an image that is essentially a 15' cube, or something HUGE in size. He is ready to cast it. It will last for 2 more rounds after he stops concentrating on it.

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

You might be able to scare the boars, and make them run from us, rather than at us.
Seltyn will borrow Elnaril's rod of Extend Spell, and increase the duration of the Haste spell to 14 rounds when he casts it.

chillblame |

Elnaril Ilikas |

Elnaril smiles to himself.
"It looks like the stories of orcs being lazy are true. The guards aren't being to watchful and it looks like the giant might be on his way to being drunk. It may be a good chance to sneak to some closer cover, especially since I need to be closer for Parvo to show his true strength."

Jeeves the Inimitable |

Jeeves nods to Elnaril. "But if we pelt them with missile and spell fire from here they will have no choice but to charge us or run for cover themselves. We can take out more than a few from a distance or as they make their way to us. That way we confront them on our terms."

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Excellent. Elnaril, I won't be hasted. Would Parvo mind if I hitch a ride on his back, say, halfway? I'll get off then, and we can sneak closer. Let's move fast for the first half, then try to sneak closer. I don't have to be close to cast Fireballs. I just need to see where you all are so I don't hurt my friends. If they see us, just charge in. I'll clear the orcs and boars out so Eldric can beat that drunken bastard.
I'm assuming Parvo won't fly at first, to avoid being seen.

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Jeeves nods to Elnaril. "But if we pelt them with missile and spell fire from here they will have no choice but to charge us or run for cover themselves. We can take out more than a few from a distance or as they make their way to us. That way we confront them on our terms."
That's a good idea, but we'll need to be closer to really bring our full force to bear. At this distance, our missiles may not be as accurate, and Elnaril needs to be fairly close to Parvo. Come, Jeeves. We can take the fight closer. We'll need your protection.

Elnaril Ilikas |

Elnaril smiles and says to Seltyn. "I would say it's not impossible for Parvo to take you over buy it won't be comfortable. He's not quite big enough yet."

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Well, then, I won't bother. I'll just run behind and catch up. I don't need to be close for Fireballs, and the Message spell will keep us in contact.
GM: I posted with the wrong character. Please remove him from the character page when you get a chance.

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Oh, good. Bushes are bushy! You can hide behind them, sort of. Sometimes. Kinda... I'll be checking in frequently, but it being Sunday night here, I doubt everybody's going to be around. We can at least start moving and see if we're spotted.

Jeeves the Inimitable |

Jeeves considers for a minute. "What if we move forward and then someone creates an illusionary fortress around us with arrow slits? They would still find it hard to hit us with missile fire, as long as they believe the illusion."

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

”If we keep at this, they will eventually spot us. Throw the fireball to hit the two group of orcs and the kegs of alcohol. Summon the elemental at the same time to draw their attention. And we will go from there. But let’s get to it...I fear the night is not so young and we may lose momentum.”
We move forward until we're noticed. When we're spotted, we will know. They will shout or at least signal to warn the others. That's when I start the dance with a little fire.
It's the surprise round, for the ones who are sleeping or don't see you. You all get to do your thing, hasted.
I'll hit the orcs and most of the boars in front of the giant. Eldric will charge in, fists blazing.
Jeeves, you should go with him. Let him fight the giant, and you fight whatever gets too close to Eldric. We're right behind you. If you don't want to, stay back and fire at whatever needs to die. You'll do good, either way.
Horek can shoot the giant from wherever he likes, but closer is better. Elnarin has to keep Parvo effective, and Mazrak has to cast, and may need to heal someone, quick. Eyes and ears, people, and I can hear you if you whisper.
At this point, you might be a little pissed at Seltyn for being so bossy. He's not normally like that, but his last job was as the leader of a party of elves who didn't take direction very well, and they suffered for it. When there are Fireballs involved, there's a strategy to it.
Seltyn moves to the far right end of our rocky cover. Eldric, this spell will make you hard to hit, but it won't last long, so get up there and kill that giant. We have to keep our momentum. Start running. I'll clear your way.
Seltyn casts the 5-round Displacement on Eldric, then casts Haste on every creature in the party but himself.
Fireball weather...

Jeeves the Inimitable |

Jeeves nods at Seltyn's plan. "I will do my best to keep the riffraff away from the monk as you say." He then stows his guisarme on his back and draws his longbow and arrows.
"Today we hunt orc."
Ready to go.

Good man! Let's save these people!

Seltyn Sevenleaf |

Fireball frolic in the forest
It's not always this simple, but when you catch them with their pants down, you don't give them time to pull 'em up. Eldric is right. We have to seize the moment.
