I have put all parts of my application in Uganda's profile. I hope that makes things the tiniest bit easier. Also he gear has been finalized. Good luck all.

Gaming Experience: about 10 years of tabletop RPG experience, about 8 of that is related to pathfinder, 5 years of PFS experience

Backstory:

Carok was born into the Zambi tribe, a tribe of bull wereshark-kin that live on an inland lake on one of the tributaries of the Vanji River, upstream of Bloodcove. The tribe subsisted on hunting and fishing, with periodic trade expeditions down to Bloodcove. The shaman within the tribe was a former pirate from the Shackles that settled and retired in the tribe.
Carok grew up on tales of the open ocean and death defying battles with various navies and monsters. He was filled with wanderlust to experience the wide open world and have his own harrowing experiences. The shaman supported him in his pursuits, training him in both the ways of Besmara and the basics of seamanship; he also told him that others may not take kindly to his monstrous nature and should hide it when among outsiders. In his late teens, Carok joined one of the trade expeditions to Bloodcove and jumped at the chance to join the crew of one of the merchant vessels docked in the port. The life of a sailor was hard and dangerous, but Carok’s innate talents proved uniquely suited to life on the open ocean. Ships he sailed with had less trouble with sea life and always had plenty of food. By his twenties, he made a name for himself a competent pilot that brought good luck to his voyages. After one particularly profitable voyage that ended in Port Peril, Carok got rip-roaring drunk and passed out at one of the towns inns.

With 6 players and a GM 50 posts in a day averages to 7 posts each... that’s definitely high, but looking back over the last week or two there’s been several times I hit that just posting in a couple recruitment threads. I mean, I’m not sure I could write a page+ 7 times a day but honestly 7 mostly shorter posts doesn’t seem like that much, to me?

My two cents because I know how much you all love hearing from me, especially GM Itzi! :)

I don't think anyone should have the expectation that they need to post seven times a day. An example was made that we like to get into fast-posting mode every now and again. He's looking for a fast-moving game to accomplish his timeline and so I think the message I took away is that it's more appropriate to say that you'll be checking the forums several times a day and when there is a fast-moving action you will be able to get some posts in. One does not to make a post when there is nothing to post.

I believe there is a distinction between saying you'll post once a day and checking in more than every 24 hours and the ability to keep up with a fast-moving scene should it start happening.

I might as well withdraw interest. I can post a couple times a day but "The ability to keep up with a fast-moving scene should it start happening" just isn't in the cards for me if it happens during work hours. The nature of my job doesn't allow me to check my phone while I'm actually working, so a few minutes at lunch and a few hours after work are the only windows I have. Honestly with this many good applications I probably wasn't getting in anyway lol.

Have fun everyone!

I did the math both ways, if you actually read what I posted. Originally, I only had the 7 posts/day identified, but then I realized there was nothing presented except that that flurry included the three of them to give the scope of who was posting.

I have to agree with Lekkric18, though. Part of my job is keeping everybody else from spending time on their personal devices at work. That kind of time on the phone doesn't exist during wok hours.

Good luck!

I dont have gear picked out other than my crossbow but otherwise I'm good to go.

The occasional post flurry doesnt worry me too much.

This is the current summary. Submissions can still be submitted until 10PM this evening (a little more than 10 hours from now). I'll post a final summary then.

Here is my submission for a Spell Sage wizard - an archetype I think is pretty well suited to PbP. He'll be able to cast the vast majority of the spells in the game.

I am not yet sure what he looks like. And one element of his background isn't quite finalized - if selected, I would be happy to tie that part into another PC's background. (He headed to Port Peril to help a friend of a friend.)

Background and Personality:
Tobias is a wizard, though not a particularly diligent one. He is brilliant, but lazy. Brought up in a good home in Absalom, and possessed of considerable arcane talent, Tobias was told how much promise he had and what an obligation he had to live up to that gift. Tobias hated the idea. So he fudged and cheated his way through the Arcanamirium, reasoning that it was just another equally valid form of cleverness.

After graduation, Tobias spent his time in Absalom running scams and hustles among the upper middle class. He would 'diagnose' magical ailments, haunts, or curses, then display enough magic to make a convincing show of his capabilities, and finally 'solve' the problem for a modest fee. He earned a substantial income, and gave his parents vague explanations that he was 'doing some confidential consulting'.

Towards the end of this period, Tobias started to lose interest in the game of conning the marks and started looking for something more in life. He spent a fair amount of his ill-gotten gains in drinking halls of Cayden Cailean, and began to feel an affinity for the Lucky Drunk. He even shared a portion of his 'winnings' with the less fortunate, and found that it felt good. One of his drinking buddies mentioned a friend who needed help in Port Peril (perhaps another PC?). Tobias was getting rather bored of the con game anyway, and felt he had to get on the move; rumor was that an Inquisitor of Nethys was searching Absalom for a fradulent wizard.

Tobias's laziness was primarily born of chafing at authority, society, and expectations. He is not truly selfish, but sees no value in hard work for its own sake. However, his longing for some sort of purpose, and his growing conscience, might motivate him to greater effort in some cases.

Role:
Tobias will be able to do anything. As a Spell Sage, he will have unmatched versatility with his spells. He'll pick up Improvisation to do all the skills. He isn't going to have a lot to do at low levels, but with a fast game pace he shouldn't feel useless for too long. His Bluff is quite good. I expect the bard will surpass it with Versatile Performance, but for now it's a good option (and it ties into his personality and background).

Hello, last few hours submission, sorry about that. Busy week.

I, in no way, can ever match Tessa's posting habits, not even on a good day. But I can still produce a character that interacts, contributes, and yells at Tessa (and Hannah too of course) as regularly as possible. While both have been mean to me (well not the shadowy people behind them, they both seem like lovely people not like their 'other' characters) with acts of abuse, attempted murder, forced indentured servitude, hair pulling, EVEN vomiting on, I do actually like playing games with them and EQUALLY like making characters...

So I'm submitting Polli, who is a wizard (a class that gets a lovely little spell at FIRST level to make someone's hair fall out in patchy clumps!!!)

I fully accept that my desire to make a character to specifically make Tessa bald is probably a non starter, but still...

Ms Pollie Andalasia Bog IV?:

Polli Andalasia Bog IV is a mountain of grumpy frustration stuffed in a small willowy frame. Why? Because people insist on talking! All The Time! Even when she's lancing one of their boils, or prying out whatever happened to get stuck in Pick-A-Hole. They TALK... and worse they expect her to talk back.
Not about nice things, like books or storms or rolling waves on an empty ocean. No, almost always about sex, the wants or wishes, the failures that are never their fault, or Hey Do you want to--- NO!

She's a ship's surgeon cause it got her away from her family, all two hundred and thirty one of them. Bogs are flipping everywhere where she's from, and most are dumb as a post. Can't fit two hundred and thirty one Bogs on a boat, now can you? Nope. So ship's surgeon she is, (as well as a passable carpenter and a reader of weather). which makes her a lovely addition to any crew. If you can get past her winning personality.

Her dad is a perfect example of a typical Bog. Nice man, really he is, kind of handsome, dumb as a post. He even got a small bookish blue girl to fall for him long enough to pop out a kid (Polli specifically). Not long enough for the blue girl (her mother) to stay around. Simple was charming, but Simple got old quick.

The numeric behind the names was a great grandfather's idea, by the way, believing it would elevate his kin into greatness. Which sadly, it didn't. The one side effect worth noting is that people at that particular time and that particular place found it Cool. So there was lot of breeding and now you have the great hordes of Bogs.

Polli is smart spectacle wearing wizard who is prone to fits of aggravated tempers, not typically with violence, instead with words. Snapping, insulting, even YELLING them, or at best of times, only THINKING them REALLY hard.
In the end she's loyal and kind, or at least she thinks she is. She hopes to find a family of her own. No not by having sex with simpletons to pop out kids but by having friends you'd destroy the world for.

Hi guys! I discovered this recruitment right under the wire, so while it doesn't take me that long to whip up a level 1, I don't have her fully statted yet.

About Me:
I own and run a game store over south of San Francisco (so PST), which means pbp is my main outlet for actually getting to play these things!!! When I started RPGs, I began with the FASERIP tsr Marvel RPG, and quickly hopped from there to AD&D and then to scads of others! I've been playing here on the boards for about 4 years in a mix of PFS/SFS and longer running homebrews in assorted systems.

I usually check in with my games in the afternoons when I grab some lunch, and then again in the evening/night. Also, whenever it gets quiet. On weekends I check in in the evening/night, and may be on more depending on the vagaries of busy-ness. Mondays are a big ordering day for me, so I'm typically sequestered/working through lunch, so I'll usually only be checking in in the evening on that particular day.

Character Concept (Red Mantis Washout) and Background:
Human (Osiriani) Unchained Monk of the Mantis - Ilizmagorti Native (LN)

Chisomo was raised in Ilizmagorti, trained from childhood as an aspirant to the Red Mantis Assassins. She excelled at some aspects of her training; her body was fit and strong, and the precise ruthlessness of Achaekek's chosen came easily to her in sparring as well, whether with blade or fist.

The discipline was welcome too! Chisomo loved the rhythms and routines of the training and chores of her home, but despite the exhortations of his priests, and the affirmations of her brothers and sisters-in-training, she never truly felt Achaekek's claws upon her heart.

And when it came time to advance to the next stage of her training, to murder a stranger simply because it had been asked of her, the deep-growing doubts that her ready smiles concealed fully blossomed.

So when she was sent out into Ilizmagorti to stalk her prey, she stowed away on a ship instead.

She fled.

She doesn't know whether or not her old family is after her - she doesn't wear their armor or wield their sabers; she doesn't claim to know their secrets, let alone teach them to outsiders! Maybe it's all enough that they'll forgive, or at least forget.

She's only just arrived in Port Peril perhaps a week ago after a long chain of hiding on different sloops to throw off any early pursuit, but even though her training told her to stay holed up, she went out to a tavern called the Formidably Maid for a drink because... she was lonely. She could pretend that she was just out on an overnight mission all she wanted, she knew that the next night would still see her in a cold room only she was heating, with none of the family she loved around her.

Unfortunately, the drink didn't go well...

***

Personality-wise Chisomo is far from the classic stoic LN Monk. She laughs she drinks, she smiles, she flirts (though she's likely to be mortified the first time she does so to a non-monastic target and they flirt back). She's all about a path to joy and laughter.

Role in the group and on the ship:

Chisomo is designed as a bit of a mix between skirmisher and frontliner. At low levels this mainly manifests with reasonable mobility, but at higher levels will show up in the dimensional dervish feat-chain as well!

As for on the ship, I'm looking to see how that develops. I won't be taking Profession (sailor) at level one (for example), but find that a very likely thing to pick up along the way!

How Chisomo will change:
I don't totally know yet :-p
She's designed to be fairly impressionable at the moment - she's just lost her surrogate family and will very quickly imprint onto a new one, and is likely to shape herself to match them, to a point. After all, when she didn't fit in with the Red Mantis, she left.

Piracy isn't something she's planned on, but I expect that she will enjoy it far more than her previous pursuits, particularly when it's against ships that can put up a fight - she's more than a little bit competitive.

If she were asked, she'd expect to drift towards the chaotic end of the spectrum over time, but I suspect she's wrong. Absolute freedom won't feel as good as she expects...

When interacting with the group, I expect her to play as the outsider, particularly in the beginning - a lot of earnest "Oh, really? Back home we always did [insert grueling tale of merciless training]" and that sort of thing.

You'd mentioned that you didn't see LN as particularly gelling with the Pirate's Life, so I wanted to explain what it means for her.

Chisomo is Lawful because she values order in her life. She likes things to be scheduled; even if she doesn't have as much of a say in things as she would like, as long as someone's in control, she's happier. She also has a strong resentment towards what she sees as 'unfair.' Which to her usually means 'breaking the rules I thought we were playing by.'

Chisomo is Neutral because even though she's warm and compassionate towards her in-group, before then you're really just more of a concept to her. She doesn't like the idea of pointless murder, but the idea of endangering herself to save a total stranger is far more alien. Then again, she can be pretty easily talked into things like that if she thinks it would be possible, but tough ;-)

I did not expect to be here, but after seeing the numbers rise on the thread for days, yesterday finally curiosity made me open and read this one. What I found and specially the players and GMs you are playing with convinced me that I probably should apply for this one. Here it is Giselle of Lezo.

Background and motivation for the adventure:

Giselle of Lezo was the fifth child of an aristocratic family of Oppara (Taldor). Being the younger girl she was educated at the Temple of Shelyn at an early age. She was taught to create beautiness and pleasant crafts for the joy of others, and prepared to be the bride of a nobleman from a powerful family or a rich merchant.

The education at her family was strict and the teachings at The Temple of the Upheld and Golden Rose in Oppara forced a particular vision of the world in the young girl. This caused a growing tension on her as she felt constantly guilty for her desire to experience freely and in her own the love so prised by Shelyn and the adventure operas she so much enjoyed in the Temple.

Thus, when she was directed into a vessel to attend her family responsibilities and get married with NPC1 please give me the name of a relevant aristocrat, merchant or captain of the campaign that might be still looking for Giselle and this marriage, it was no surprise that Giselle embraced in desperation the attraction for one young and handsome sailor of the ship. She and NPC2 this one would ideally be one of the NPCs in her current ship, but can be from other future adventure escaped and he brought her to the Formidably Maid in Port Peril, where after a whirlwind night of booze and romance, Giselle found herself beaten senseless and stuffed in a sack, carried off to who knows where.

And so, it begins Giselle’s trip to understand herself. Although she does not know that she wants to be a pirate, that is exactly what she will discover she needs to. What she has done so far, pleasing others, it is only because she wants to feel thrill in her heart. And that driving force soon will head her into adventuring and piracy, as fame and plunder, the love and admiration, and the grabbing of what she wants when she wants, is the pull she needs in her life.

What role do you see them filling in the group? And on the ship?
Her education make her fit for all kind of supporting roles, but as she gains self-confidence, she might rise to a secondary role in the leading of the ship, as a boatswain for example. On the party she will like be the one that takes care of others, both physically and mentally, and engage in activities to maintain their morale up.

Character evolution:

I see this character having the widest evolution I have ever tried, beginning like a naive aristocrat and slowly becoming a strong and respected pirate. She is a character with strong contradictions between what she has been educated for and her real inner personality. I hope the influence of the other strong female characters in the party and her first adventures will move her soon from LG down to CG. In that sense I was hoping it was possible to start as a cleric of Shelyn and later become a cleric of Besmara, as that becomes something known and she makes her trip in alignment. But if that is seen as complicated or undesirable, I will look to build her directly as a cleric of Besmara skipping that Shelyn initial part. I see her going from dreaming about having love and adventure and looking for permission for it, to grabbing as much lovers and richness as she desires and feeling in her right to do so.

Also, from feeling out of place at the sea, she will slowly discover her family initial richness comes from a dreaded sailor called Ramiro of Lezo, known to had beaten uncountable enemies and vessels, losing an eye, a leg, and driving crazy the Chelaxian Army for more than a decade.

Finally, once she becomes a priests of Besmara, I see her taking the variant rule that allows these clerics to have a parrot familiar, and it would be great if the discovery of this animal could be built in into the story.

Who am I:

My friends and I were playing HeroQuest when one of us put his hands in a bunch of photocopies of something called “D&D Básico”. For a bunch of Spaniard teenagers in the 90s, yes I am from Spain, that was quite an oddity, and somehow we managed to start playing it and enjoy it. We made good for our lack of resources and available publications in Spanish by developing our own worlds and adventures. We grew in the hobby playing and GMing AD&D, the Lord of the Rings, Rolemaster, Stormbringer and Cyberpunk until after I finished University. By then, work, girls and finally having funds for more expensive entertainments like traveling saw us dispersed and investing time in other stuff.

Around 7 years ago after finishing my MSc. in the Netherlands I came back to Spain and a friend told me to join a group that was playing some “new” version of our old game. I had a tone of time by that time and need to rebuild my social network, so I thought it might be worthed to give a try recovering that High School hobby. And… well… my dwarven fighter shined like gold under the Sun, we had many adventures in that campaign and we enjoyed it just so much. I was thrilled by the level of quality of this “new” version, D&D 3.5, the rules felt more cohesive and the printing was amazing (I was still used to white and black drawings).

My gaming was not enough and I started to GM a game for my friends linking series of old light modules adapting where needed in a campaign that ended with Red Hand of Doom. By then I had already discovered there were groups of likely minded people in my city that were organizing some public games called Pathfinder Society. That brought me to more GMing and two years of organizing the game scene at my area, but let’s short it up, I got drag to this new version of my game and met a lot of more people.

Still, there were no published adventure paths in Spanish that I could play with my friends, and so I somehow discovered about this forum and started trying to play here. Differently to my teenager days my English was good enough already and the Internet was a thing, which means a world of possibilities opened for me, finally able to play the adventures I wanted.

After playing and GMing many small adventures (basically PFS scenarios), I finally managed to be accepted into a Rise of the Runelords campaign. I was impressed by the level of depth that this new format allowed. Some other APs came afterwards and I got a copy of Shackled City ended at my hands. Because it was in English, I decided it was for the best to GM it in these boards. And so, I prepared for a year, let all other small games I was GMing end, and begun that big epic adventure.

From there on I was a more mature PbP player and it became a lot more easier to get into games and help maintain them alive. And so I came to current date. I will not bore you with what I have done in PbP as that is easy to find out, but I should probably add that I am GMing a RotRL campaign (mid-campaign) and playing a Curse of the Crimson Throne one (last book) in f2f groups of friends.

My playing style:

I would define my PbP playing style as a push to uncover the story the campaign designers put there for us, and a pull to discover my character uniqueness.

Probably, I do better at epic narrative and pushing the game, but every now and then I am able to engage into deeper conversation with other PC.

My style naturally tends to play excentric when not comical or directly surreal. Although the occasional taunting is of my taste and some of my characters lend themselves better to a bit of drama or even some kind of romance.

I like interacting with the world and do not shy away from dialogue, whether it is with an aristocrat, a companion or a stone.

My characters are varied and I like to roleplay them, whether they are a smart elder, a drunkard, a war obsessed rager or a noble prince of the sands. They have family and goals in life.

As you see, I can become excessive, you asked for a link and I was dragged away with a wall of text full of references...

My timezone is UTC+1 which means my posts concentrate from 9 am to 5 pm by your time. Weekends I have more time but somes don’t. Along the year, there are times when my responsibilities go up and my creative energy sinks, but that usually only means less richful contributions as I manage to maintain minimum posting habits.

You went to a tavern called the Formidably Maid, a notorious pirate hangout in Port Peril, eager to start your career as a buccaneer. While you were there, however, a dashing and flirtatious corsair caught your eye, and after a whirlwind night of booze and romance, you found yourself beaten senseless and stuffed in a sack, carried off to who knows where.
Reactionary (combat): You were bullied often as a child, but never quite developed an offensive response. Instead, you became adept at anticipating sudden attacks and reacting to danger quickly. You gain a +2 trait bonus on initiative checks.

Will decide if chosen

And the recruitment is now closed!

I want to say thank you to everyone that has submitted a character for consideration. There are a lot of really well thought out characters here - some of which slipped in in the final hours. I wish I had the sanity to run more than one table and use more of these.

I can only hope that the rest of these get into someone else's game - their stories should be told.

I will look over these and post the accepted team within the next few hours ... probably. :)

I wish to thank everyone again that took the time to submit a character. I know free time is a limited resource for most people and appreciate that you decided to spend some of it crafting a character for this game.

I've been looking over submissions and winnowing down to my final selections for a few days and readjusting as new ones came in. And I'll be honest - I was revising my list all the way to the end.

So with little fanfare, the characters that have been selected to join Contessa Steel (human swashbuckler) and Harmony d'Valois (human bard) on their piratey adventure are:

Marisann (Brainiac) - Female Human Brawler
Donomsail Lishoni (Capt Mutt) - Female Tiefling Cleric
Azadi Freeman (Giant Halfling) - Male Undine Kineticist
Pollie Andalasia Bog IV (John Gs) - Female Sylph Wizard

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time for all the submittals.

Good gaming to everyone.

If the chosen players could head on over to the Discussion Thread and dot in.

I've also PMed you each a link to the Discord channel for the game. Drop on in and say 'Hello' there as well.

Congrats to those that made it! I look forward to you joining my crew! :)
