Thanks for all the feedback. Regarding crossover with other characters, my feeling was kind of the same as what Tessa said- we already have the bases covered... I tried to find a niche for her casting that nobody else was really covering (debuff/control), but also thought that having someone who could step in as a backup to a bunch of positions if someone went down could be helpful? The only role we don’t really have (that I can think of) is a scout but nobody seemed interested in adding one when we were talking about it before? I could focus more on being a dedicated controller if people think that would bring more to the table?

So, I was trying to avoid any talk about a potential character change while we’re fighting for our lives, but since we appear to be on a brief holiday recess I got bored and decided to post.

I’m still not completely committed to switching from Azadi, but Harmony was the only one who really seemed to favor sticking with him so, I guess, I’m definitely leaning towards switching. Nobody really seemed particularly enthuzed about Sigrid either though… so here’s 3 more options. If none of these really jump out at anyone either, maybe I’ll just stick with the green meanie?

Valeria Crispin probably brings the most new/additional options to the party. She’s decent with stealth and sense motive, and favors ranged combat with her bow. She’s from the (fairly disreputable) port city of Ilizmagorti and becoming a pirate just seemed like a fun and potentially lucrative career.

Iuna Ik-Sabha is a controller; her skills, spells, and hexes focus on making enemies into allies, taking people out of fights, and weakening those she can’t get rid of. Her father was a famous pirate (20 years ago) and she fled an unhealthy home life with her mother in Sothis to follow in his footsteps.

Greta Gyllenhar is a melee heavy. Her stealth is passable but mechanically she’s not adding a ton of new options to party, just more damage (and a little extra spellcasting), and hopefully fun RP. She didn’t really set out to ‘be a pirate’ but she’s trying to track down her deadbeat husband and piracy seems the best way to do so.

Anyone have a favorite out of the 5 (including Azadi and Sigrid)?

My vote would be to either stick with Azadi or go with Valeria if you feel like you have to change characters.

Ah, we get to vote. That's easy then. Azadi, since roleplaying and the subsequent history that goes with is it always more important to me than mechanics of any kind.

Valeria brings different skills to the group which is good. Maybe it's just because this is a thumbnail sketch but I don't see the characterization that I have seen with Azadi. My vote is for the best interactions overall. Whichever character you feel is best I will work with, together we will all make a good story.

So far it feels close between Val and Azadi. You’re definitely not going to get as much of a feel from a brief description as you’ve gotten from playing with Azadi but hopefully the background in the link gave you at least some idea of what she’d be like?

@Itzi- does your non-vote mean that both of Val’s traits are ok?

Polli will wait in the shallows if no one insists (with a logical argument) that she should join the search.

If the other two join us we could all go together. The rest of the water was manageable if I remember correctly. Donomsail with the ring will allow us to stick together taking 10. If it gets unmanageable we move us with lesser swimming skills back to the choke point.

Just Polli's suggestion. Though she is relatively happy with any other plan.

I was waiting for them to answer Polli’s question. We have no good way to stop people from drowning when we get attacked down here, so I wanted to let them decide before we just moved them down here (plus I didn’t want to hurry back up there after I ended up coming back alone last time).

edit: also, even with the ring and my assistance I don’t think we can get Donomsail to where she can take 10... so either she may need to jump (and maybe drop a channel after to heal any fall damage plus the injuries we have), or else maybe we give marisan the ring and have her swim with Donomsail on her back (I don’t think I’m strong enough to do it)?

The common hall (the building with the stone tower), has something very similar to a tavern. It doesn't have anything remotely like amenities, though. They serve a watered-down ale and bland food.

I think my alias is ready to be checked. I bumped around some purchases so there's a chance my gold might be slightly off, but it should be within like 10-20 gold of correct, I'm fairly sure.

So recommendations, including the current magical loot from each person to show where we are at.

Donomsail: ring of swimming, bracers of armor +1, light crossbow with 10 bolts and 3 screaming bolts, potion of cure moderate wounds

Polli:all the scrolls(ALL OF THEM) with the ink costs to inscribe them, a dozen silver hatpins set with tiny obsidian (simply because they are cool and she has a lot of hair), potion of cure light wounds

Harmony:+1 Shortsword, amulet of natural armor +1, lesser bracers of archery, shortbow with 12 arrows in leather quiver with a buttoned shutter to protect them from the elements, corked dark green bottle containing 8 doses of oil of taggit

Marisan: amulet of mighty fists +1, potion of blur, potion of water breathing

Tessa: amulet of natural armor +1, Besmara's Tricorne, a spyglass, potion of cure moderate wounds, masterworking her rapier (300gp), belt of incredible dexterity +1

So we have two days before interesting things happen. I swapped out getting magic missile free at leveling with masterwork transformation(if that is okay with Itzi) and put making Tessa's rapier masterwork in the above and she'll make a belt of incredible dexterity for Tessa in this quiet time.

2000 for the ship

2000 for the belt of incredible dexterity
300 for masterwork rapier
60 for taking away the hair pins
180 for inscribing the spells she can cast

leaving 3529 remaining in the group funds. Donomsail's pearl of power will cost 500 so it would be nice to go ahead and take out for that and will only take a day. So 3029.

Sounds good to me, Donomsail is purchasing goods, according to Itzi they will cost about 300 g.p. I am going to attempt to negotiate for a lower price, have a Diplomacy of +2 hopefully will help. We will see how it goes.

Well I had to try and one of the roles was pretty decent too, of course that was offset by the lower than average first role. (insert shrugging shoulders emoji here.)

I was hoping we did't have too... sigh :)

If we take out the 2000 for the ship first, since we don't know he is leaving when we paid that(if that is okay), it would mean 1344 for each of us. Subtract that from what is left and we have 1685 remaining in ship funds.

OH! And smuggling compartments sound like a good investment, so 500 more?

Some time later this week, I'll be posting rules on the Campaign tab regarding Infamy, Disrepute, and Plunder.

Why do you need any of those? To quote:

Even if the PCs manage to remake the Man’s Promise into a new vessel that will not be recognized by Captain Harrigan or his associates, they still face the prospect of being a new ship into pirate waters with no reputation to back them up. The Free Captains of the Shackles have a name for this sort of vessel: prey. Unless the PCs want to constantly fend off attacks from their fellow freebooters, they have to make a name for themselves as pirates along the fringes of the Shackles first in order to be accepted and respected as peers among the other Free Captains.
