Action 3:

The sight of the advancing herons made Veratash nervous, as is probably intended. He started seeing shadows in the corner of his eyes and lowered his shoulders involuntarily. However, seeing the others were taking it so bravely, the young man would not tarnish the reputation of his race and stood upright, hiding his fear. He only wished he felt as brave as he looked.

When Tharivol's asked Veratash invasive questions, he forced an insulted stance, mostly to feel something other than fear. "Sir elf, I am not a murderer", he answered. "And you should know better than to ask such a thing of someone of my kind.", he continued hoping he didn't go too far. The singer was probably centuries older than himself.

"But as for the reason they are following me", he continues addressing everyone in the group, "I only escaped imprisonment from a kidnapper. If this hunt ever ends, I can tell my story in more detail, but for now, I would appreciate it if you would keep your insinuations to yourselves. I have had some very bad days lately". He bites his tongue to keep himself from talking more, as he felt he was raising his voice.

As they arrived in the abandoned cottage and Artur started his preparations, Veratash was unsure what to do, as he had never been in such a situation before. When Artur asked someone to knock down the walls, Veratash prepared to use his powers to crumble some of the inside stone walls, but then stopped himself and said "Guys, I can break the walls, yes, but my neighbor Turanank built houses and I'm pretty sure that knocking down some of these walls will make the roof collapse on our heads. Do any of you know where I could safely crumble?".

If someone rolls a decent Intelligence or Mason's tools check, I'll use Mold earth to break down walls.

Action 4:

As the sounds shift, Veratash felt that something was imminent. He told everyone hoping Artur would answer "I can mess with their minds if they come. I can try to make them overconfident by ''giving'' them a vision of victory, except they'll need to be close for that. I could also give them a victory of myself running away as if in panic to a direction we choose, so they'll pay less attention to the house. What do you think?".

He then continued "If they are very hurt, I can make them sleep like I did that horrible beast. The more hurt they are collectively, the more likely I can make more and more of them sleep". He hoped they understood what he meant.

To those of you who don't know, sleep works based on HP in 5e. It's a finisher spell, so I roll (3+2*(slot level))d8, and by adding the HP of the lowest current HP enemies resulting in less than the rolled value, those enemies fall asleep, no save. So, in short, dropping all of them low instead of focusing them one by one can result in many of them asleep, which is good for questioning and sparing lives.

Sorry, I know I usually post in the evening, but my evening training ran over time and I need to sleep. Did a quick search for an appropriate map, but unfortunately I've got nothing ready to go that has all three key features. Will post before work tomorrow morning.

OOC:

Don't worry about the map. I'll come up with something. It may not be perfect but we'll make it work.

BTW, no one has made the perception rolls yet so you are assuming it's the hunters but have not had any confirmation yet.

"I am afraid that I am equipped more for support than direct combat. However, I do have the ability to blind and sicken an area with one of my more potent spells. The blinding goes both ways, however, though I am immune to the sickening effect. It is excellent for breaking up formations of casters and ranged attackers."

Nyd appears to wince a little. "As for offense, it appears that my most effective spell appears to be magic missile. I have a more damaging spell or two, but their effectiveness has been questionable of late."

Action 4

After arriving at the defensible site, Nyd will take time to walk the perimeter of the site, trying to decide if mobility or bunkering down would be more effective.

Action 3
Kela set her pack down within what was left of the farmhouse, Artur swiftly goes to work to ready the place for a siege, and Kela leaves him to it. She takes a wander across the fields and around the farmhouse, re familiarising herself with the area. While out there she picks up a couple of twigs, sharpening them and placing them within her belt pouch for easy reach.

Returning to the farmhouse she grinned at her friend ”Impressive work Artur” and joined in the discussion of coordination during the fight. ”Well Nyd, since Artur’s work has made it hard for them to attack in melee I expect that blinding spell of yours will see some use.

”As for myself, I think my skillset is rather obvious.” and she gestured to her weapons ”Apart from that, I can turn the ground against them, make it difficult for them to reach us or to run away. If I do, don’t walk in that area.” she stressed

With night falling Kela sets up torches along the walls of the farmhouse, but doesn’t light them for now. ”The light is more of a risk than anything until the hunter’s close in, but better to have them prepared if you need them.” she explained.

Action 4
The evening fell into silence as Kela stood keeping watch out across the fields. As the birds announced the arrival of what was surely the hunter’s Kela peered out into the growing night. For now unable to spot the source of the hoarse calls she continued watching the shadows, bow ready to attack as soon as she has a target.

Kela responded quietly to Veratash ”If you can trick them into splitting their forces, that would be great. I can definitely hurt them bad enough for you to put them to sleep.”

Perception (Disadvantage): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 221d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Farm 1, I was picturing a relatively small farmhouse at the time. Would the steep ridge be just past the base of the map? Also I figure that most of the roof burned away already, so should be good to remove inner walls if Fabian agrees.

Kela now has the material components needed to cast Spike Growth. Yay!

"Insinuations? I'm literally about to protect you from kidnappers and hunters. And, I think knowing what kind of person you are, and why you are being hunted, are very relevant questions."

After an uncomfortable pause, he continues, "I'm evidently not as altruistic as Artur and Nyd, and would prefer a good reason to die today." Tharivol smoothly replies to the Kalashtar.

As the sun began to set, Artur took one last look at his work and then, in almost slow motion, scooped up a handful of dirt and smelled it, then rubbed it between his hands. finally, he reached into his pack and pulled out a small sample jar and poured a bit of the dust into it, then made a quick note on it.

Entering in, Artur took Kela's comment with a short bow while smiling then looked around the room at the others.

The boy is nervous. That's to be expected. Tharivol is, as also to be expected, trying to figure out exactly what he's gotten himself into. Kela is focused on the task at hand, a trait that I need to instill in them all.

Clearing his throat to get their attention, Artur began speaking slowly, and in a tone of voice that suggested both reverence and rote memorization: "Brothers and sisters, which any who share the battlefield with me are my brothers and sisters, I bid you now to cast aside doubt: the whys and whatfors. They matter not at this moment. Now we stand on the precipice; the razors edge between life and death. We must each rely on the other to tip the scales in favor of life. We seek not war, but peace; We yield not wrath, but hope; and we wield not fear, but pride."

Artur's voice began to rise as he continued: "I say to those who would oppose us: come, and find death, or flee, and find life, for we wield both in equal measure and none here stand alone. We live as one, fight as one, and none will die so long as one lives."

Breaking from his near trance, Artur smirks and says "Or to put it another way, it's time to make these bastards give their life for their country" even as a tear winds it's way unnoticed down his cheek from his natural eye.

Action 1:

Hearing Artur's words, he started to feel braver. He turned to Tharivol and said "I am grateful you came, though." as he tried to smile. Also, he tried to see anyone.

As the others speak, Kela is silent as the fight draws near. Unusually though she finds her thoughts dwelling Artur rather than the coming struggle. Now that they are sharing each others company rather than just letters it is clear to Kela that Artur still lives the Last War. In this skirmish he sees war and countries. It hampered his earlier strategy. but his ability to fight seems unaffected. For now all she can do is trust in his skills, and hope that later he is willing to speak on it.

Action 3
Maintaining her watch through the window of the house Kela barely flinches when an arrow slices into her armor, Artur’s shield deflecting it just enough to avoid injury. She got what she wanted after all, the location of the hunter on the far side of the well. Kela murmured "I will hunt and destroy you, who threatens those under my care." and then fired two arrows from her bow. Both landed true, and Kela drew another arrow as she looked for the next hunter unwise enough to lift their head above cover.

Each object in a 20-foot cube within range is outlined in blue, green, or violet light (your choice). Any creature in the area when the spell is cast is also outlined in light if it fails a Dexterity saving throw DC 16. For the duration, objects and affected creatures shed dim light in a 10-foot radius. Any attack roll against an affected creature or object has advantage if the attacker can see it, and the affected creature or object can’t benefit from being invisible.

OOC: Yes, you are right. I'll fix that in the turn recap.

@Nyd: try and elaborate your post, especially where you cast magic. Describe how you cast, thoughts going through head, what the magic looks like, what the opponents feel/see/hear/do (you can assume a positive outcomes for this, i.e., assume they fail their saving throw sicne I can always fix it later in the turn recap). The more you dod this, the more we will all get out of the f=game.

I'll give Veratash the rest of the day to post and move this along later today.

However, seeing his companions fight back and initiate combat, shooting arrows and casting spells, he swallowed the lump in his throat, accepting that he might have to kill someone today.

Before letting himself dwell on this thought, he got up and checked who his savers were targeting. He decided to contribute. Trembling, he reminded himself, how they had prevailed over the displacer beasts, and said as loud as he could muster, which wasn't much, "Twofold tension". Two greenly beams left his hands. Round 3:

Impressed at the turret's ability to protect him, Veratash felt overconfident. His action had a quick response by the hunters, however, who managed to fire two arrows toward him. While one of them only scratched his extended right arm, the other drew blood from his left shoulder.

Ducking back, Veratash sees three more hunters getting close from behind them. Instead of panicking, the kalashtar thought of a ruse. Hoping, the hunters understood the common tongue, he shouted "They are behind us too! Oh no, we're all going to die! Every one for themselves!"

Deception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

He, then, ducked behind all cover to stay out of sight of all of the six hunters closing in on them. Focusing on his dragonshard, he muttered "Two of me" and projected a very realistic image of himself jumping out of the south window of the abandoned farm and running south. The image, then proceeded to cower behind a bolder.

Cast Silent Image

The hunters that now came in from the south watched the image and prepared to attack it, as well as the hunter to the west.

Well, let's talk about that. I'm a civil engineer BTW, but I hate mixing real life with fantasy, but we must have some coherence to make the world believable.

I understood that Artur took 5-foot cubes of soil and excavated a 10-foot wide, 5-foot deep 'moat' around the 'building'. I'm not going to bother with the sidewalls of the moat caving in and make the depth less than 5' so we'll leave that as is.

However, taking a 5-foot cube of soil and plopping it down on the ground does not yield a 5-foot cube of soil. There's nothing to contain that soil so it 'crumbles' and perhaps leaves a 3-foot high conical 'stockpile' of soil. So this is what I assumed that you guys are in (from inside the outside): structure (which has opening from which to shoot from and get shot at), a 3-foot high pile of soil, and a 10-foot wide, 5-foot deep 'moat'.

A humanoid (or an image) can pass through these obstacles.

Feeling his high level spell unravel, Nyd frowned in annoyance. He had hoped to use the cloud as a possible escape path if it was necessary.

"The enemy has received additional reinforcements. I am increasing resource expenditure to speed the conclusion of this combat.”

And in a softer voice, ” It is at times like this I regret not being more battle oriented.”

Nyd then waves his wand again, but instead of ice, three arrows of force briefly shimmer into existence before darting out to unerringly strike the glowing and wounded Tribal Hunter 3.

Getting worried about Kela; it's been almost 72 hours since we last heard from her.

I'll wait a couple of more hours and then recap but I don't like botting PCs without knowing ahead of time.

If I know ahead of time then the PC just becomes part of the backdrop (I won't act for the missing PC), BUT I will adjust the encounter accordingly.

Given the near miss, Artur decided to focus entirely on defense for the moment. He activated his shield gauntlet, which immediately snapped into place, commanded his turret to protect the group again, and then moved into the southwestern corner of the building.

Finding his misdirection funny, Veratash laughed before seeing his allies take more arrows. He looked at the three hunters to the south seriously then said "Slow mind, slow body" while touching his forehead with the dragonshard. Nyd nods to Vertash. "Excellent spell usage." He says quietly, so as not to disrupt the illusionary play. "Do you think you can hold them until we defeat the northern group?"

Continuing his previous actions of increased spell usage, Nyd again gesutres with his wand. Muttering a noise that sounds briefly of complex math more darts of force appear to fly out at the wounded Tribal Hunter 1. The bolts unerringly fly from Nyd to strike the hunter, though one appears to have been slightly off-track and only hit the hunter in the leg.

Veratash looked at Nyd with an insulted look. "Spell usage?", he said incredulous. "I have never cast a spell in my life! Kalashtar don't cast spells...", he begins, interrupted by another volley of arrows by the hunters.

"I think they're on to my illusion.", he continued looking embarrassed. "But I'll try."

Nyd looks puzzled, but nods. "Ah, my apologies then. Do you have a preferred designation for your abilities? I am aware that there are abilities that are not considered spells in the world, but I do not believe I have knowingly encountered any."

Nyd pulls an arrow from his wooden frame. He is legitimately curious and might be exposing his position a little too much waiting for the answer.

Veratash, a little too worried about the impeding death just outside the abandoned house they're currently occupying, frowned at the warforged saying "Get down! I'll tell you what. Help us live this siege and I'll tell you all about it.", a little over dramatically.
