Action 2
"Kela, is the farm close enough to walk to. our would it be more efficient to ride?"

M Sorcerer lvl 6 [AC13 | Saves -1 0 +5 0 +3 +7 | Per +3]

I suppose I didn't use Tides of Chaos?

Action 1:

Veratash realizes that swinging the staff will no longer work. The beast is coming for him. It seems it's only one. He touches his forehead and gets in the creature's mind to make time faster for it.

Cast Slow. DC 15

Female Half-Orc (Mark of Finding) Ranger (Horizon Walker) 5

Action 2
Kela replied to Nyd before she left the inn "I'll be walking, need to stay close to the ground for tracking. But I'm not sure how far we'll need to walk for that. Up to you if you want to ride."

Action 3
Kela spent the walk quietly, her eyes alternating between the tracks and the surrounding environment. After spotting the creatures and the person they have cornered she swore quietly in her native tongue and drew one of her swords. Kela strode to the rear of the beast on the road, and as she did she spoke one of the Gatekeeper Oaths in Goblin. "I will hunt and destroy you, who threatens those under my care." summoning the magic inherent in the ancient traditions. And then slashing her sword into the side of the beast.

Shortsword Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 6 + (6) = 17
Shortsword Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (2) = 9

Unless there are objections, I'm gonna create Gatekeeper oaths as verbal components for spells.

That is correct. You will get a chance to attack on the next turn recap.

Feel free to 'act' (speak, think, minor action, etc.) during this turn.

I felt that you were just running away and didn't get a chance to see their footprint/trail.

Please make combat interesting by describing your action and your intended results (assume a positive result) of your 'enemy'. You may also assume a negative result (i.e., it makes its saving throw).

I'm not sure if you saw the map at the 'bottom' of the turn recap but Kela is quite a bit away from the beast on the road. Each square is 10' so she's approximately 150' away, well away from melee combat this round.

Please consider this and repost your actions and intended results.

Once the talk of tracking and killing a creature came up, Artur went out to his horse and secured his pack onto his back with a momentary tink sound as the magnets secured firmly to the metal of the armor he wore under his clothing. Realizing that beasts were often scared by loud noises, Artur switched out the cartridges on his pistol for the cone of sound.

Displacer Beast: This monstrous predator takes its name from its ability to displace light so that it appears to be several feet away from its actual location.

Rephrasing...

Action 1:

Veratash realizes that swinging the staff will no longer work. The beast is coming for him. It seems it's only one, or at least only one he dares to acknowledge. He had planned for this.

For the first time, Veratash focuses his psychic powers like his life depended on it, and it did. He pressed the Dragonshard against his forehead until it hurt and penetrated the creature's mind, forcing it's mind to slow down.

Action: cast Slow

As the beast slowed down its movement and reactions, Veratash dashed towards it and just as he was getting in range of its tentacles, he jumped, projecting his body forward. From the effort, he yelled HAAAA, hoping it would help him focus on his landing point. After the ordeal, he quickly looked back to see how quickly the beast would follow him.

Move: Run towards the beast.
Bonus Action: Misty step 30ft forward
Move: Finish move and glance back

I don't know what the new official artificer will be like but this one seems to have some overlaps with wizards.

artificer wrote:
You have studied the workings of magic, how to channel it through objects, and how to awaken it within them. As a result, you have gained a limited ability to cast spells. To observers, you don’t appear to be casting spells in a conventional way; you look as if you’re producing wonders through various items.

So let's make such that you have to figure out each individual spell you copy (goes both ways) by making an arcana check with a DC = 10 + 2*spell level BUT you have advantage on that roll if you have an artificer/wizard 'explain the stuff'.

Yes, a few. What minimum level would that be? Does it have "higher spell slot" options? Does it behave similarly to Cure Wounds or Healing word?

The spells behave 'exactly' as 'cure wounds' but work on warforged (living constructs) and 1/2 as good on 'organics' (fair is fair). :)

Round 2:

Veratash screams in pain and fear at the sight of his own blood. Somehow he managed to stay on his feet. While preparing to run wildly from the beast, he spotted a group of people looking at him.

They found me. They managed to track me down!, he thinks in terror. Well, I will fight to my death, he ponders. The beast was a more immediate threat. He decides to attack it with his mind.

Tension, Veratash says towards the beast as a visible greenly beam comes out of his eyes towards it. He was probably very tired as it seems to be really hard to focus his eyes on the creature.

Cast Misty step uphill, since he thinks the party is here to kill him.

He dashes forward until he sees another one of the beasts. He doesn't know what else to do.

Action 1
Even with her friend threatened Kela knows the stranger will not last long with those wounds. She channels the power of the planar boundaries for a moment she draws her bow and unleashes two shots against the creature ahead of her cursing more as they flicker through suddenly empty space. And then moving further towards the injured stranger shouting out in Common as she does "Run away from them! We can protect you."

Longbow Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 111d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 + 1d8 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (4) + (5) = 16

Included disadvantage rolls. Kela's promise of protection is obviously super convincing with those attack rolls

Sorry, didn't see that you put in a map. that changes things a bit. Here is my updated action:

Turning as the creature approached from their side, Artur pulled the trigger on his pistol, which unleashed a cacaphonous roar of sound, which also sent a cloud of loose debris and dirt shooting past the creature.

Casting Thunderwave through my pistol. It's a DC 15 Con save or take 2d8 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8 Thunder damage and be pushed 10'. Half damage on a successful save and isn't pushed. It also pushes anything unattended like loose sand, pebbles, or sticks 10' away from me.

As soon as the sound stopped, Artur called out "Bring him back this way Kela!"

I've updated my spell slot expenditure.

Artur then pushed the button on his gauntlet to extend his shield. As a bonus action.

Yes, I will normally provide (and update) a map throughout combat.

Artur, thunderwave is centered on you with a 15' radius. I'm assuming you are moving away from your current location so you don't affect your companions.

Should I just move you towards the creature (so you can affect it) but not affect your companions (move you 'east'?)? Do you want to tell me where you will go?

Artur then pushed a slightly different series of buttons on his belt, and a small warforged that looked like a dragonfly sprung from under Artur's coat and flitted around Tharivol, quickly covering him in some sort of liquid. As it covered his head, Tharivol noted that the colors around him were muted, but that nothing appeared to be reacting to his movement.

Okay, my bad. Basically, I'll cast Shield if I activated my shield gauntlet as a bonus action, to cover the difference in AC until it gets fully extended. The only exception to this rule would be if there are no visible enemies.

I think that's the only reaction I have right now, and my only means of threatening currently is with an unarmed attack.

Female Half-Orc (Mark of Finding) Ranger (Horizon Walker) 5

If Kela is hit with elemental damage and has a 1st level spell slot available she will cast Absorb Elements as her reaction.

Action 1
With Artur's encouragement to focus on the injured stranger Kela continued to run forward, pulling her shortsword from its sheath. She recited another oath in Goblin "I will move swiftly and let nothing bar my way" and flickered through silver light to appear between the beast and the stranger. This time she knew to watch for the true location of the creature, and with her swift arrival she scored a deep cut across it's face before it realised she was there. The second slash cut deep into it's shoulder as it pulls back far too late. "Enough!" Kela cried "You fight me now." and she set herself firmly between the beast and it's victim.

Shortsword Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 271d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + (6) = 16
Shortsword Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 271d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 6 + (2) = 9

When Kela hits, she really hits huh. Total damage from both attacks is 34
Critical Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 4) = 9

Full 30ft of movement straight forward, then bonus action to Misty Step to the bottom left corner of Veratash. Then two attacks (no disadvantage since Tharivol hit it already). Dueling damage still applies with a bow in one hand since I cannot wield it with only one hand right?

Seeing that the stranger is the one currently most imperiled by the beasts, Nyd moves forward to close the distance and then fires off his most long-ranged spell.

On the one hand, I would like to reward PCs that come up with 'cool' things.

On the other hand, I don't want PCs that don't get this reward to feel like they're not cool.

We could have a popular vote after an encounter and see if anyone was worthy of this reward.

Thoughts?

Ok, Kela, that was one sexy round

Veratash sees a half-orc magically appear between himself and the beast and cut the beast's face and paw as magical missle fly from the other people towards the creature, bringing it down. I hope.

Not wanting to let his guard down, he thinks to himself that the group probably wants him alive for some nefarious ritual, and that is why they are saving him. He quickly decided he preferred his chances against the group than the beasts. He had already managed to lose them once.

The young psychic runs past the beast that nearly killed him and resisted the urge to kick it on the floor. He was so tense that the grip of the Dragonshard had made his hand bleed, but he pressed it harder now and yelled towards the other two beasts that were attacking the group SLOW MIND, SLOW BODY. As he did so, he raised his hand towards them, in an attempt to focus harder.

Move towards the beasts and cast Slow. DC 15. Note that, if the beast is still up, it still has disadvantage on AoO, as my move happened before the end of my turn, which is when the poisoned condition ends.

Veratash moves to the edge of the cliff. From the vantage point, he confidently stretches both arm out and says twofold tension as the greenly beams fly towards both beasts. He, then, recoils from the pain of his wounds.

Move towards edge of cliff and cast Twinned Ray of Sickness (1 sorcery point).

Attack vs beast 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Disadvantage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2

Attack vs beast 3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Disadvantage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 1) = 9

Both roll Con save DC 15

Veratash's beams hit both creatures making them tense up their muscles until they feel sick and dizzy.

It was the blood that was tricking into his good eye that made Artur realize how injured he was.

"Nyd, kill the injured one!" ordered Artur as he saw to mending his own wounds.

He quickly sheathed his pistol into his holster and then drew a small bottle, one that fit securely into the palm of his hand, from his belt and sprayed himself with the contents. As he did, his wounds visibly closed.

Artur then replaced the bottle onto his belt and redrew his pistol.

Cure Wounds as a 2nd level spell: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (5, 7) + 4 = 16

If I am within the reach of the creature when I cast, I'll use shield to increase my AC. I need to not get hit lol.

"Acknowledged! Incoming spell fire!" Nyd gestures with his wand and a clear knife flies from him and towards the injured Displacer Beast.

Nyd fires an Ice Knife, cast at level 2, at the injured Beast, aiming so that he doesn't catch any of his allies in the explosion.

Ice Knife To-Hot: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Initial Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 2Piercing

Then after striking the creature or not the knife explodes into a explosion of icy shards!

Ice Knife Explosion Damage: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2, 5) + 1 = 10
The +1 comes from my wand, which increases cold damage by one.
The Beast 15DC dexterity saving through to negate explosion damage.

Edit: And now thinking about it, firing an to-hit, dex-save, spell at a highly dexterous creature with a near-permanent Blur effect probably wasn't a smart choice.
