Thyste Fox-Tailed |
GM, could I know the typical alignment of this kind of dragon please.
Please keep in mind that this is an "alignment-free" game.
GM_Grandlounge |
This is an alignment-free game but if it is easier to ask about disposition that way I don't mind. This creature has no regrade for anything other than itself and its hoard. Most people consider them evil and unpredictable.
Little Ben PBP |
"Are we in a hurry? I'm not in a hurry. Maybe we should just wait until it goes to bed. Even so, I need to prepare something that will help against acid. If it discovers us and attacks, come to me and I can give you protection."
With that Ben huddles somewhere and starts communing with nature to prepare the communal protection from energy spell.
Ben keeps one spell slot of his highest level open so that he has the flexibility to prepare any of the spells he can cast, given time of course.
Lidia* |
I think Lidia and Thyste are hiding, waiting to ambush once combat starts, Ben is preparing a spell and Ulretha is marching forward with his pack to challenge the weak and cowardly dragon in the name of Gorum.
Ulretha |
Glorybound as Ulretha is, he's no fool. Though he might want to test his might directly against a dragon, he knows that he should seek out every advantage he can get.
As Ben starts to do his magical finagling he lets out a put upon sigh but stops near the half-orc druid.
"Make it quick," he demands.
GM_Grandlounge |
Appologies. Lidia and Thyste take a round while I find a map and get set up.

Ulretha and the Pack rush into battle, the former literally charging, though the latter arrive first what with having twice as many legs each and not as much metal to carry around.

Lidia you get a standard + full round. Thyste standard. Ulretha you are a move action off the map with a full round. Come in an where you like from the south.
Does this mean that Ben was unable to flip his slot? I think that is what this means since it takes 10 minutes. Bloodthirsty Ulretha!
GM_Grandlounge |
I think as it played out people moved ahead immediately so no meditating on a new spell.
Ulretha, "The dragon is flitting around 60 to 100ft in the air as it plays belly full from a recent meal." You can declare new actions or have those as readied attacks if you like and you think reach will play out in your favour.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
I think as it played out people moved ahead immediately so no meditating on a new spell.
Ulretha did mention waiting, and the rest of us waited on a "signal of readiness," so I thought we did wait?
Ulretha |
Sorry. Forgot it was flying. I moved everyone back to the edge of the map. I'll keep those as readied attacks if it gets close enough to be attacked in melee.
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
The old woman starts to make some noise.
“Hey, you big dumb and ugly dragon! I haven’t had dragon flesh a long time! So come here and I will make sausages out of you!“ she shouts.
Little Ben PBP |
Ben gapes at the suicidal woman.
GM_Grandlounge |
Ben, reassessing, you can have the spell prepped if you like. It is your call.
GM_Grandlounge |
The Drake swoops at the screaming old lady (flying off map and provoking and taking the readied attack from Ulretha, readied attack misses).
Bite: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 252d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 5) + 10 = 16 plus bleed),
tail slap: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 241d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 plus trip)
After the attack, the creature flies back along a different path. Swooping upward avoiding unnecessary attacks.

Little Ben PBP |
Ben, reassessing, you can have the spell prepped if you like. It is your call.
Nah. Makes more RP sense that they did not wait. Besides for the spell to work effectively everyone has to congregate around Ben.
Ulretha |
Ulretha curses the drake roundly in gnoll.
He sheathes Gorum's Thorn (you can't just toss such a glorious weapon on the ground) and pulls out his bow and an arrow and starts to take aim.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste looses a couple of arrows herself!

Little Ben PBP |
Ben pulls out a scroll of summon nature’s ally IV and casts ironskin on himself. Oh, and takes a step away from the madwoman.
GM_Grandlounge |
Lidia let loose two arrows that trail one behind another. These two arrows were perfectly constructed. The grain of the wood runs straight from head to nock without a single imperfection. The arrows are so flawlessly crafted, and the shot aligned so precisely that when they hit the armoured scales of the drake's face, the arrows split down their length. Instead of shattering as one would expect, the shafts create hundreds of equal length pieces of shrapnel that tear the drake's face apart. The creature plummets to the ground with a head made of mince, landing with a wet slap.
Out of combat. Everyone can save their resources.
Lidia* |
When the drake's head explodes, Lidia blinks in surprise and takes an involuntary step backward.
"What the...?" she mutters.
"Well, s!~$."
Lidia looks down at Thyste like someone who's just done something wrong. And then she grins and starts giggling.
"Did you see that?!" she marvels exultantly through her laughter. "Was that my arrows? Or did the weird grandma cast some kind of head-explosion spell?"
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste begins cackling as well, bouncing on her heels.
"See, this is what happens when you stop tabling your bow! I'm so proud!!"
Lidia* |
"I only do that when I have to shoot when moving to the left." protests a chuckling Lidia with mock vigor.
Ulretha |
Ulretha just gapes as the drake comes crashing down after a pair of spectacular shots from Lidia. He puts away his own bow after looking at it in chagrin for a few moments, knowing he could never reproduce that feat.
"Good shooting," he mutters begrudgingly to the archer as he moves past her to examine the body of the fallen drake for any thing of value it might have.
The Pack approach the corpse warily as though expecting the rest of it to explode for no apparent reason at any moment as well.
Lidia* |
"Good shooting," he mutters begrudgingly to the archer
Lidia is obviously feeling very full of herself but trying hide it.
"Lucky shot." she says with a humble-brag shrug.
"This guy probably has a lair around here somewhere. We should look around for it and see if he was hoarding any treasure."
When the party is ready, Lidia will help lead the search for the possible dragon hoard.
Perception: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 16 + 4 = 24
Survival: 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 15 + 4 = 36
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
The grandmother grins.
”Aghh, so you young girl are as much a monster as all these others among us? If not by your appearance then by your skill to kill with the bow??“
Lidia* |
The grandmother grins.
”Aghh, so you young girl are as much a monster as all these others among us? If not by your appearance then by your skill to kill with the bow??“
Lidia doesn't quite know how to take this.
"I wouldn't consider any of us monsters. Just misfits, maybe." she answers carefully. Nevertheless she's in too good a mood now not to smile back shyly at the old woman.
Little Ben PBP |
"Wow."
Is all Ben says, until he says more. Which does take a few seconds.
"It's like those arrows were enchanted just to kill that thing. I'm sure glad you stuck around. Say, that hide is pretty useful and it won't be needing it. Mind if I start dressing the body before the hyenas mess it up?"
He's obviously deferring to Lidia as it was plainly her kill.
Lidia* |
Lidia shrugs.
"Sure." she says nonchalantly, or at least as nonchalantly as she can manage, as pleased as she obviously is. "You think it could be made into armor or something?"
She comes over to the corpse now and begins curiously looking over the consistency of the scales and underlying hide. "I can help, I'm pretty good at skinning stuff. Have you skinned a drake before?"
Little Ben PBP |
Ben chuckles heartily, "Nope. Never even seen a drake before. Gonna learn a lot from this as well as take home some interesting items."
Ben does his best to figure out what is worth keeping, using whatever skills he has.
healing: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31, to identify anything usable for healing
survival: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22, to dress the critter and figure out what might be valuable from a survival perspective.
Lidia* |
Lidia will assist Ben with the skinning.
Survival (Assist): 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 15 + 4 = 28
She seems enthusiastic about the task, and she definitely works quickly. But it's also clear she's never skinned a drake before. She whistles perkily much of the time, though the melody is far from clear.
Ulretha |
Ulretha also throws in his aid in skinning the beast, or at least part of it. He tosses some of the better cuts of meat to the Pack and snacks on some, himself.
Survival(Aid): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Little Ben PBP |
After they finish harvesting the dragon, I'm going to assume the group goes looking for the lair. Do you want a tracking roll?
GM_Grandlounge |
As a team, you are able to dress the dragon in about 30 minutes a remarkable time for this large creature. You get teeth, hide, a few organs that have medicinal or material component value.
To follow it to its lair, you can roll a survival, but it will be very hard as the creature flies so I would suggest work together again.
Everyone can roll a perception with their next post as well.
Lidia* |
Lidia did post a Survival for finding the lair roll above, with the result of 36. But then we decided to skin the drake first. Would you like a new one, or can I just let that one stand?
Perception: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 16 + 4 = 27
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
Perception : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Little Ben PBP |
Ben turns into a Pteranodon and searches from above while the others search from below.
tracking: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
He spends a lot of time investigating caves that do not pan out.
Ulretha |
Ulretha also joins in the tracking, pointing out places where the treetops have been disrupted and gouges in the ground where the creature has made dives that missed.
Auto-aid on Survival Checks.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste hitches a ride on whichever hyena will have her and takes a nap!
Gotta make sure I'm not overexerting my 12 hours of waketime a day... and y'all probably have this covered ;P
