“Arghhh…. “ the old lady cries out in pain!
“I … I will not die with you today!!“ she says with a glance at her broken companions.
She flies away 60 ft into the forest to receive concealment from the trees.
Lidia* |
Lidia turns quickly to Thyste and holds out her hand. "Grab hold!" she says.
If Thyste takes her hand, she hoists the foxling onto her back and takes off running toward the fight.
"Is it me or did I just see a blast of fire go through that clearing up there?" she asks along the way.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste isn't about to turn down the offer-- but given the very recent conversation, putting her hand in Lidia's brings a small blush to her also-small cheeks.
"You're not wrong," she says as she swings up onto Lidia's shoulder. "It was like noon suddenly just happened over there."
Little Ben PBP |
"Well, Ulretha, looks like you get your wish. All the signs of a fight, but we'd better hurry or there will be nobody left to save."
Ben transforms into his troll form and unlimbers his axe as he rushes forward.
So, how long is this after the tomb raid and after the encounter with the troll? Need to figure out what spells I got.
I still need the answer to this question before I can decide what to do. Also, that initial 20 points of damage, was it directed at Ben, or is that all for poor Azardra?
Lidia* |
"You're not wrong," she says as she swings up onto Lidia's shoulder. "It was like noon suddenly just happened over there."
"I didn't know giants did that. Can giants do that?" says Lidia as she sprints toward the danger.
Ulretha's Pack |
Ulretha lumbers up to the cyclops but can't do much else.
Two of the members of the pack are able to get close enough to attack, though.

After the eye beam basts Azardra (answer to Ben's question) she runs for the trees. Lidia comes barreling onto the scene bear a tiny fox lady who fires a bow, but the arrow shatters against the armour. Two hyenas bite the cyclops each grabbing a leg but they can't bring it down.

GM said that one and a half hours have passed.
“Hey, you human girl!!! What is happening here!!! Why is the troll and gnoll attacking the cyclops with you?!?“ she shouts at Lidia.
Lidia* |
Lidia had been so focused on the fire-breathing giant raging in the clearing that she hadn't even noticed the little old lady in full plate armor sailing through the air. So when the voice addresses her, she looks up and around for a few moments til her eyes fix on the strange apparition.
"To save your butt, it looks like!" she calls back.
Ulretha |
Surprisingly enough...to nobody...the cyclops' enormous swing sweeps through Ulretha and his whole pack.
"Praise Gorum! A worthy opponent!" he declares, clearly pleased rather than upset by the devastating blow.
"Let us test our might against each other, then and may Gorum bless my Sword!"

Azardra realizes that this is a legendary bread of cyclops that is a descendent of the ancient astronomers which possessed incredible wisdom. It has a eye beam, and alters fate once a day (choose the result of a die roll) and possesses ferocity.

Little Ben PBP |
@GM
What actions are you talking about when you say 'Ben (action last round and this round)'. Ben moved and attacked last round so are you talking about the rounds leading up to the fight?
GM_Grandlounge |
I forgot to remove it from the round prior. You were/are behind an action in this fight as you did not declare an action in the first round.
But it is fine as the Pack rips a blinded cyclops into 100 pieces as the rest of the team also delivers their finishing blows.
Lidia* |
Once the cyclops is dead, Lidia turns her attention to the bizarre spectacle of the flying grandmother in plate armor.
"Who in the Nine Hells are you?" she calls out in a bewildered and suspicious voice.
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
"Who in the nine hells are you?!? I have never seen a girl that associates herself with gnolls, and trolls and ... and cat fox beings!!" the old woman shouts.
"Didn't your grandmother tell you to be careful!! You could have been killed child! And I am a grandmother of course ... one that lost too much because of these giants! Now is the time to strike back! And I do not care if I die or not! I have lived long enough!" she says while still wearily looking at the strange creatures and the pack.
Lidia* |
"Who in the nine hells are you?!? I have never seen a girl that associates herself with gnolls, and trolls and ... and cat fox beings!!" the old woman shouts.
"Gee, really?" answers Lidia sarcastically. She points to Ben. "He's not really a troll. He just turns into one sometimes when he wants to fight monsters or impress old ladies."
"Didn't your grandmother tell you to be careful!! You could have been killed child! And I am a grandmother of course ... one that lost too much because of these giants! Now is the time to strike back! And I do not care if I die or not! I have lived long enough!" she says while still warily looking at the strange creatures and the pack.
Lidia stiffens a little when the old woman starts scolding her like a child, but manages to not make a sassy retort once the honest pain and grief in the grandmother's words comes out.
"Well, we're out here to fight the giants too, so I guess we're all on the same side here." she says, pulling back her hood so the old woman can get a better look at her. "And don't call me child. I'm not a kid. I'm eighteen. And my name's Lidia."
Esmé saunters out of the woods to stand near Lidia at this point. The ranger squats down to let it nuzzle at her knuckle.
"If you're hurt, we can help with your wounds." she offers.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
"If you're hurt, we can help with your wounds," she offers.
"Not exactly one of our specialties," says the cat fox being, giving the hyenas a wide berth. She wouldn't put it past them for the pack to strip the giant to the bone if they were hungry, and that tended to be... messy. "Still, we should be able to manage, if you don't mind ghosts. You're one foot in the grave, anyway, so maybe you two will get along."
She thinks a moment.
"We are a weird group, aren't we?"
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
When she sees the dwarves and ghost she steps back but after Lidia’s and Thyste’s explanation she calms down a little. .
“Weird indeed!! Okay chi… ehh … I mean woman! And cat fox woman. And troll Druid and ghost man and all you! My group was just killed hours ago and I buried them … I … I don’t know if I’m ready to bond with the next group but it seems that our interests are aligned for the time being!“ she says with eyes full of pain.
She looks at her wounds and draws a wand of cure light wounds.
“Can anybody here use this to heal me?!“ she asks.
Lidia* |
She looks at her wounds and draws a wand of cure light wounds. “Can anybody here use this to heal me?!“ she asks.
Lidia nods and steps forward. "Yeah, I can do it."
She waits for the old woman to land.
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
The old woman lands and tries to keep everybody in check.
She hands her wand to Lidia.
Ulretha |
Ulretha only pays attention to the old woman long enough to determine that she doesn't want to test her might against him.
Then, he turns to the cyclops, searching it for valuables.
Though he does speak to the woman. "Oh, I'm not really a gnoll. I'm a handsome elven prince who's been cursed and the curse can only be broken if I eat the heart of an elven maiden who cut it out of her own chest because of her love for me."
He lets that linger in the air for a few seconds then laughs uproariously.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste laughs, as well. "I've heard that one! Elf stories are so..."
She ponders for a moment, then shrugs.
"I guess when you live that long, you've got to be over the top with your romance."
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
Azardra looks disgusted but says nothing more.
clw: 14d8 + 14 ⇒ (8, 1, 4, 7, 4, 2, 8, 7, 3, 3, 3, 5, 6, 3) + 14 = 78
She looks at Lidia kindly when she heals her wounds.
Lidia* |
Lidia keeps curiously looking over the full plate armor on the old woman as she plies the magical healing wand.
"How can you wear all that?" she finally asks. "It must weigh a ton. And you must be boiling hot."
Little Ben PBP |
"Gee, really?"[/b] answers Lidia sarcastically. She points to Ben. "He's not really a troll. He just turns into one sometimes when he wants to fight monsters or impress old ladies."
Naturally, Ben bows when he hears that.
When the subject of healing comes up, Ben offers some of his magical berries.
"These are pretty much free though I only can make a half dozen per day, they don't heal all that much, and they go bad after a few days. But I suggest you use the older ones rather than waste the money on that wand of yours"
Ben offers a handful of 20 berries to her (20 HP healing and quite the meal). He wanders over to the body and takes a look.
"Never heard of one like this. Not that I am an expert, but druids get around and some of them really like to talk."
Looking up, he adds, "So, you want vengeance? You will fit right in if you want to join us."
He casts a curious gaze towards the irascible Lidia, wondering what her plans are.
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
The old lady looks at the bowing troll and raises an eyebrow.
"This group is like none I have every seen. And I take the berries ... know them from a friend! Hmmm ... " she says while chewing.
When Lidia asks about the armor she looks quite sad.
"I ... I do not want to talk about it! Now let us get going! I was lucky to have remembered this strange flying spell ... let us get going to kill these giants!"
Little Ben PBP |
"It's bound to be a looong trip. And a long trip in plate armor is going to be exhausting. You sure you want to wear that thing?"
Like the others, Ben struggles with the incongruity of an old lady, flying or not, wearing plate armor. To the practiced eye it is obvious that she does not really even know how to put it on right.
"At the very least, if you insist on wearing the thing, allow me to adjust the fittings, OK?"
Azardra, the other Grandmother |
"You want to touch me? I ... I have not been touched like this ... " she says with a strange look on her face but then she looks at Ben in his troll from and regains her composure, "...ehh ... no ... no thank you! I will be able to endure! I am old but I am not weak!!" she says.
Ulretha |
"I can't figure out why you're not all wearing armor like that. You can afford it. Where's the logic in NOT having some metal between you and people trying to kill you?" Ulretha adds his comments to the discussion regarding her armor.
"Thyste is the only one who should be worried. When the old lady collapses somebody is going to have to carry her instead of carrying Thyste."
Lidia* |
Looking up, he adds, "So, you want vengeance? You will fit right in if you want to join us."
He casts a curious gaze towards the irascible Lidia, wondering what her plans are.
When Ben looks at her after saying this, Lidia purses her mouth a little, looking a bit hurt. But she quickly looks away.
Lidia* |
"...ehh ... no ... no thank you! I will be able to endure! I am old but I am not weak!!" she says.
Lidia watches the group interacting with the strange old woman and it slowly dawns on her that they are about to accept the stranger into their hunting party.
Lidia moves to Ben and pulls him aside.
Lidia* |
"I can't figure out why you're not all wearing armor like that. You can afford it. Where's the logic in NOT having some metal between you and people trying to kill you?" Ulretha adds his comments to the discussion regarding her armor.
"I couldn't shoot my bow properly wearing all that." says Lidia. "And I'd be pretty useless rattling and banging around with every step I took. Better to keep your distance and hide when you can, when you use a bow."
Little Ben PBP |
Lidia moves to Ben and pulls him aside.
As usual Ben has a different take on things and responds in a more laissez-faire fashion.
Lidia* |
Lidia turns away from Ben. "Oh, what's the use..." she growls.
She favors the old woman with another appraising look, grumbles something inaudible under her breath then goes and sits cross-legged near the dead cyclops where the hyena pack are busy ripping away bits of flesh. She watches the carnage impassively, and even yips and giggles back at them sometimes, encouraging them to come over to her for hugs and scritches.
Esmé slinks up onto a nearby rock and watches Thyste like a mouse.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste grins. "If I wore all that armor, I'd get tired faster," she points out. "And it would take ages to get in and out of it when it was time to sleep, even."
She doesn't seem to especially notice Esme.
