You pass through a hex that you've already claimed before reaching the hex with Clover's Crossing in it.

I've added markers to the Canterwall & Neighbors map to indicate the party's location (a red inverted triangle) and the location of Clover's Crossing (an orange circle).

Once the party completes its investigation of Clover's Crossing, you can make the investment to claim that hex.

...

I've also realized that, since I have a new computer, I have to reinstall the mapping software I used to make the regional map. Once I get that done and copy over the file for the regional map, I can make some revisions to it.

yuck, migraines suck, and the light from a phone or computer just makes it worse. Hope your feeling better,

Although the migraine is more "absolute"... I may take it over relationship drama! I do get my share of that. I feel for ya, keep the faith.

New computer... Oooo... Ahhh... I'm an IT guy (not Italian). I love new computers.

New, new to you... laptop or tower?

I wish I could say it was anything fancy.

Just a refurbished tower with improved specs compared to my old one that went kaput last year.

@Valeska: Are you using your Bond Senses ability in conjunction with Sasha's scouting? I want to know how much detail to provide upfront.

That makes sense (no pun intended)... Perfect use of it. Originally was hoping to sus the thing out with the surface vibration.

I always thought it was a cool ability but that the handful of "rounds" was kinda lame. So somehow perhaps Sasha can turn it on when there is useful info? Opens up a can of rules-worms.

It could take him a few rounds "to get there" and then... fzzt! It's very difficult to decide when to use it.

I remember using it to check an enemy's position behind a door at the keep, that was cool. Sasha charged in, drew the attack(s) and relayed tactical info.

Yeah, I was going to be flexible with that duration limit, essentially allowing Sasha to trigger it when there's useful info. For instance, what I just posted, describing the olfactory information that Sasha relays, is just going to use one of the three rounds.

@Valda - assumption is correct regarding the italics. I just use it to "differentiate something" so in one game, it was usually the voice/entity in a character's head. He was a symbiote.

Thanks for the compliment! I do try.

I reinstalled my mapping software (Hexographer, in case anyone's curious), but I could not find the file for the Canterwall map, so I recreated it.

I've added the updated map to the "Canterwall and Neighbors" link. It includes actual symbols for Valorforge, Gerduhm, Clover's Crossing, and other points of interest. I've also included markings to indicate the extent of your present control and terrain upgrades you've funded so far.

Thanks! That is awesome... nice to see the spread. It's kinda in all directions. Things are coming along... swimmingly (for Canterwall)!

How's the PC treating you?

Valeska's right, the maps look great.

Speaking of maps, do we have one for the present area, I'm having trouble understanding if we can get to the house without crossing the 'disturbed' ground where we found the undead.

Thank you for the compliments!

The new computer has been functioning very well. Now I just need to replace my monitor, since it has some occasional audio and visual glitches.

I will whip up an encounter map for this area because you're right, it is difficult to understand without a visual reference. I think I'll actually try using Hexographer for this, too, to better capture what I have in mind.

Okay. I've uploaded the updated map.

The orange area is the trail you were following. The brown areas represent the tunnels, sinkhole, and other areas prone to collapse. The mottled green area near Sasha represents the old mass grave he's found. The gray areas are the farmhouse and barn, and the blue patch is a well.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

How big is the wagon, 10x15? Would it have any planks we could use to get animals across the tunnels?

Looks like a 10' span.

I derived inspiration for characterizing Doctor Evets (as well as his wagon) from Professor Marvel from The Wizard of Oz.

Based upon both photos of his wagon in the movie and the fact that the vehicle entry for a Medium Wagon from the Ultimate Combat sourcebook gives the dimensions as 10ft by 15ft, I'll say that the planks could be used in such a manner.

I also like the idea because of the opportunity to depict Doctor Evets helplessly upset as he watches his wagon taken apart.

So cruel... I was thinking he had planks or shelves to display his wares.

Although I do imagine him wringing his hands nervously.

Hopefully we can use some of the planks without destroying the wagon (preventing it from rolling, being drawn).

For RP later, are we leading the mounts across the planks as well? It feels like it would be a totally different dynamic.

It's only 10 feet, but if the boards aren't strong enough... they could jump? Or they could wait on the other side.

Valeska was being creative... I don't know if anyone have magic that would accomplish a similar thing.

I guess also... it's getting dark.

A DC 15 Ride check can spur your mount on to make a leap, using either your Ride modifier or the animal's jump modifier (whichever is better) for the DC 10 Acrobatics check to cross the 10 foot distance.

Kain could try to get all of the mounts across, if you want.

How rough is the terrain off-road? We could try a portage approach, where we unhitch the animals and lead them wide around, then carry the wagon.

People do/did this for pretty big boats to get them past rapids or cataracts. Similar principle here.

The terrain is manageable. The bigger risk would probably be the fading light, making it more likely to trip over rocks, roots, or loose soil; of course, this would not be a danger for party members with low-light vision or darkvision.

How long would it take to just walk around?

It would take about 30 minutes to go around with the animals, but 45 minutes if you bring the wagon.

In either case, you would be left exploring and securing the farmhouse without any sunlight left.

I feel risk and adversity is part of the game, so long as we don't do anything the DM finds "stoopid". He shouldn't be trying to kill us off TPK or kill off familiars, bonded-animals, etc...

I do like that the scenario makes us think twice about how to approach the farmhouse, but there isn't a perfect solution (that avoids all risk).

I think trouble or being/getting in trouble is ultimately what brings us together character-wise... risking for one another, saving one another, backing each other up.

Let's' go for it! Tally-Ho! One for All and All for Canterwall!

Indeed! It's not like I've got the Whispering Tyrant himself lurking just around the corner inside this old farmhouse, waiting to crack you in the kneecap with a magic baseball bat...

Wait a minute, are magic baseball bats available?

Crunch-wise, I suppose it would just be a re-flavored magic club.

Lore-wise, we could say that stickball or some precursor to baseball has become popular in Andoran and is starting to spread elsewhere.

That would be kind of funny though, if we just get demolished by a CR27 Deus Ex Machina and that's that.

I vote that we bring the wagon/animals/NPCs rather than leave them behind. If something happens to them we wouldn't be able to reach them quickly from the other side of the sinkhole.

Sorry, it's springtime and I got distracted thinking about magic bats :)

I'm cool with that, I assumed we were going to do so, that's why I accepted Kain's in game offer to 'ride' Valda's horse across. I don't know if everyone else will try and ride their mounts or have the general move them across, but Valda's ride skill is terrible. It sounded like we were bring the wagon across on boards.

In real time that might take as long as going around but in game time I have no idea.

Good with whatever we decide. Just not sure what I can do in game to facilitate it.

If you're going to take the long way around to bring the animals and wagon, please make Perception checks to avoid stumbling.

I've been fighting the reload page monster myself... And the posts do feel vanished! Sometimes they come back.

Strangely I find when I save a post, it shows up. But, when I 'refresh' the page it's gone. So out of paranoia I sit and refresh repeatedly until it shows up again. Then I remove it from the document I typed it on.

DM Vayelan if Kain does not respond to Valda and Nicolai's request to ride the horses over would you 'bott' him?

"It's a bird. It's a plane... what's a plane?"

Could Sasha communicate what he sees? He's got Darkvision 60' and Low-Light Vision.

Not sure how this table handles Perception/Sense Motive (skills/rolls) in general for Familiars, Bonded Animals or Eidolon.

Do they typically get independent checks?

Also, realized the Link feature allows communication as a free action so long as on the same plane. Sasha Int is 7, as far as how well he could describe something or convey a thought/feeling.

In other news, with Life Link Sasha remains full strength as long as he's within 100' of Valeska. I'd thought it was a shorter distance like 30' or 50' but he's free to move about the cabin... or farmstead.

I will say that Sasha can communicate what he sees.

He would characterize what he sees as "Dead birds attacking Kain's big bird."

Hey folks! Sorry for the quietness as of late; moving and stuff has been a hassle. I had a friend just to do some chiropractic stuff and something went really wrong, so now my ribs are sharp points of pain. Sitting sucks majorly and I have to do it enough for my work.

With that being said, I'm not giving up the game. I'm about to head out on a mini-vacation this weekend so I would like to be botted for, at most, till next weekend. It'll let me heal, get all of my packing done, and I'll hopefully be healed and refreshed to come back and types lots.

I may come back earlier than next Friday if things have turned out really well. I apologize for the inconvenience but I'll be back with you all shortly :)
