I've been involved in... idk... 30 pbp games, many still going, and I've never seen a GM put as much effort into a game as Bob does for the Prevail game. He keeps things moving on an ambitious scale, which is a huge plus.

Snowball the Dragon |

And kingdom building. One of my favorites ^^
Would this evil kingdom have any rogue necromancers? :3
And did you say pbp on Discord? o.O

GM Monster |

We're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse caused by radiation so animating undead is strongly frowned upon, btw. I play an evangelist cleric with Flagbearer, btw, so you can expect +4-+6 buffs for attk and damage in mass combat. Get lots of attacks out there. :)

Doll #23, also known as Cindy |

Cindy has an idea of how to distract them. There may or may not be a subtle hint in her last post.
I think she might have a new obsession

Piedmontina Mumblethunder |

I’m definitely in for another game.
And if that’s not enough, I’m also putting together a recruiting post for my next game that I’m going to run, which will be ready some time this week. The general style is Hellboy/BPRD meets Stargate, but with gestalt characters.

Snowball the Dragon |

BPRD?
Also, anyone know Charm Animal or Charm Monster? I think we can go get a pet bear. We can name him Teddy :D
@GM Monster & Bob & Goldslip: exactly how frowned upon are necromancers? xD
What if I just channeled negative energy a little bit lot? :3

Good question! That's up to Bob, I'd say. I was the elected leader of our civilization until I stepped down. Now we have an elected demogogue... smh...

well, I don't want to take over this game, so anyone who wants to ask me more questions about the Prevail game, go to this discord channel:
But yeah, I am not allowing necromancers in this game.
And yeah, PBP in Discord is the BY FAR better way to do things than this old beaten up Paizo website.... wait til you try it... you won't want to go back.

My first poppet is going to be a walking teddy bear.
Not only that but I'm 50/50 on going the witch route I was planning with first class level. Now I might go druid just to get me that yummy bear animal companion.
Does Cindy want to be able to smell children and make candy so that she can find homes for dolls ... or does she want a BEAR!!??!?!?
OMG or a 3rd option! A Summoner whose eidolon is a Teddy Bear!

I originally figured Cindy having relatively normal intelligence but the child-like personality would be the slow one. I didn't realize how many people would be building moon moons lol.
Snowball! You're gonna ruin the plan that Cindy's already possibly ruining!

Snowball the Dragon |

Next time, someone with brains needs to keep an eye on Snowball. Preferably Tina, since she's immune to cold xD

I'm just gonna start calling snowball "kitty" and put a leash on her

Xeria and maybe Snowball are creating characters for my Prevail game. Anyone else interested? Check out that discord link on the previous page to see our discussion about character creation and the game. Thanks everyone!

After much thought I'm going to pass. I just got even more involved in assisting in a very detailed game world so I really don't have time. I might spy on you guys a bit though

GM Monster |

Fyi, I'm at a research conference this week so I'll probably be posting more slowly. I hope to keep up the pace but I can't promise that.

Piedmontina Mumblethunder |

BPRD: Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. It's the organization of monster investigator and hunters from the Hellboy universe.
Prevail: I'll probably log on today to start building a character
Research Conference: That's why you take a seat in the back, so that during a boring presentation, you can pop out a quick post.

Snowball the Dragon |

thx for helping moonmoon behave less sub-optimally :3
Also gestalt makes me want to try that one gestalt build that I never got to use which was chock full of design shenanigans...

Doll #23, also known as Cindy |

Rawr. Bear. Rawr.

Doll #23, also known as Cindy |

Conference is almost over. Will be back in action soon.
Rawr. Bear.

Doll #23, also known as Cindy |

Damn. The bear ploy was too convincing...

Snowball the Dragon |

I kind of don't think it's late enough in the day for Darkness to help:
This darkness causes the illumination level in the area to drop one step, from bright light to normal light, from normal light to dim light, or from dim light to darkness

GM Monster |

Cindy: It might help you out remember that you can split a full round action between rounds. You can spend a standard to start it one round then finish as a move next round.

Doll #23, also known as Cindy |

That was actually my intent, moved then started the sla. It will pop off mid turn next round. I guess I wasn't clear

Goldslip |

@Xeria: I don't believe your Reduce Person being an SLA rather than a normal spell reduces its casting time from 1 round to a standard action.
Here's a thread that quotes the relevant rules texts (there's one in the Bestiary but also one in the Core Rulebook) and explains it pretty well, I think (only if you read beyond the original post): https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2qvn9?Spelllike-abilities-are-standard-actions

Snowball the Dragon |

If it helps:
Summoner's specifically have text in their SLA that makes it a standard action instead of 1 round
Also, from the actual rules:
A spell-like ability has a casting time of 1 standard action unless noted otherwise in the ability or spell description. In all other ways, a spell-like ability functions just like a spell.

GM Monster |

Right: SLAs function like casting the spell except for ways that they are stated to not. Reduce person is a 1 round casting time and the atomie entry doesn't say anything about changing the casting time.
Same with the soulbound doll, deep slumber, and casting time+aoo.

Xeria |
You know, I never thought Enlarge/Reduce Person was powerful enough that it needed a 1 round cast time. I never even looked it up, assuming it was a 1 action cast like 98% of the spells.
That's an ability that has now been proven to be even less worthwhile then I originally thought.

GM Monster |

Yeah it's a nice-precombat buff for reach fighters or casters/alchemists but that's about it.
Will update combat after work in a few hours.

Goldslip |

You know, I never thought Enlarge/Reduce Person was powerful enough that it needed a 1 round cast time. I never even looked it up, assuming it was a 1 action cast like 98% of the spells.
Yeah, it's funny! I think the first time I realized that pair of spells was a 1 round rather than standard action casting time was only like 2 weeks ago. Been playing Pathfinder and 3.5 before it since 2011...

Snowball the Dragon |

Anyone know when they changed Mount from a standard action to 1 round?

Snowball the Dragon |

except it's 2 hours a level and it's not necessarily combat trained (it might just run from combat unless you have a nice GM) xD

Snowball the Dragon |

By the way, I'll be camping IRL until after labor day, please bot as needed!

GM Monster |

I'm loving the RP, guys. In particular, I'm a sucker for character development. Bob's name-search and Gorthug learning to speak while forming a connection with Goldslip is gold. 1000 RP XP to the party! Which bumps you neatly to CR 3. Report on your CR up here in discussion.

Doll #23, also known as Cindy |

Speaking of RP, will we have a couple of days available for our "level up training"?
I want to have Cindy spend some time outside of the cave at night trying to figure out this bear thing. I'm still not sure if I'm going druid, lunar oracle, or something else but she's gonna have a bear companion soon.
(and finally be able to make poppets!!!)
If not, the other option is a quick template to beef her up a bit and I'll focus on the woods during the next level so she can take the class level at CR4. I just don't think it works story wise for her to all of a sudden find a bear without some RP to back it up.

GM Monster |

Well you will have the walk home through the woods but the action will be continuing when you get back to Last Hill. You can RP it as you go, spreading her development over the course of a few days if you like.
Also, let it be known that I'm having Tina re-spec a little bit. Like I said earlier, I reserved the right to re-balance things that got out of hand. Using the young template to help pay for lich got pretty crazy, especially in terms of making it hard to damage her without killing her completely. So I'm going to have Tina remove her natural armor bonus, DR, and fear aura. That's a lot so in return I'm going to give her some party support focused abilities. Heaven's leap as the awesome shaman hex but she can use it as a swift action. She also gets bardic inspiration with bard level equal to her HD. Again, if these turn out to be too little or too much, we'll re-tweak.

![]() |

yay! I don't know how to add a PC class to Bob. :)
1) Do any of my attributes change?
2) Do I get to pick skills as normal?
3) Feats?
4) Traits?

Doll #23, also known as Cindy |

OK then I think I'm going to use a template to improve her combat abilities, and then start class levels on next "CR-up".
Cindy hasn't developed enough to justify such a thematic class level, so she's gonna have to have some experiences over the next level first. I can delay the poppets too since she still can build her dolls starting now and then animate them later.

Gorthug |

CR3!
Gorthug goes from CR2 Draugr to
As this takes him from Int8 to Int12 and Wis10 to Wis14, he can now speak and understand Orcish, with a very basic amount of Common. He’ll suffer from both short and long term memory loss and may/may not zone out for extended periods of time. But he’ll be able to interact with the world around him.
So, yay. Now he finally interact with the party with more than just nonsense. :)
——-
Also, I’d like to take a cloak of resistance +1
GM: Can Gorthug use the masterwork falchion, chain shirt, and/or orc hornbow?

Piedmontina Mumblethunder |

I'm headed towards Mystic Theurge (double the casting, double the fun!), but I'm trying to decide if I want to do my dip in sorcerer first, or if we want to see Tina get religion (Cleric).
Also GM, is it all Bardic Performance, or just the "Inspire" ones? Fascinate seems like a very Tina move.

![]() |

Oh I am absolutely planning on it. I can make a cup out of aether strands for liquids. I am definitely less than 5 pounds.

Goldslip |

Goldslip is updated! I dropped the Young template at this level.
It's actually a downgrade in a number of ways, moving from Tiny size to Small size--but she has more hit points!

Snowball the Dragon |

Snowball is no longer 'drunk' and will behave a bit less moon-moon.
I've already started making her speak more than 3 words per sentence xD
