Welp, hopefully Nik can manage a DC 28 check to concentrate and get greased up, then I won't need a nat20 to break free and the tentacles wont succeed on a 2 to maintain xD

The goons in the back are unconvinced by Connor's protestations and advance, pinning Rinika and Connor in close quarters. You appear to be squeezing since you're on top of each other. This means you get -4 to attacks and -4 to AC. This is normally not possible but its silly that you can't fit two people in a 5ft square.

Greataxe vs Connor, flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13

Connor's armor holds true and deflects the axe swing aside only slightly scuffing it. Rinika's shadows try to misdirect but the blow to Connor knocks him back a bit and into Rinika, placing her directly into the path of the axe. One of them disentangles the Shadowknave from the scarf.

Connor runs past and clear of the building after slaying the already injured green gang member

As Connor turns to run the person around the corner swings their axe right into his chest. In a groan of metal on metal the plate armor crumples and parts, leaving a large gash in the Bastard's chest.

Rinika tries some more acrobatics to fly out without provoking and ending her movement 10 ft in the air, and once she gets out, she tries to dispel the tentacles.

Clear of the building Rinika struggles against the Black Tentacles that are ensnaring Nik and Jek. After an amount of concentration and effort unusual for the catfolk she finds a loose thread in the spell’s weave. After pulling on the string of magic it unravels and the tentacles disappear.

Peering out of the window the Shadowknave exclaims, ”Wait a minute! I know you. You’re supposed to be dead. Boss! The goat and the cat are the ones that did the Citadel of Fire in and killed Eighttoes.” As he speaks there is a fire that’s lit in the eyes of the gang you can see, they seem to be extra motivated to kill you now.

You hear a disgusted sigh from Green Marvent and a bolt of lightning strikes Rinika, which then jumps to Lunk, Horsington, Connor, MaNik, and TitaNik.

From Chain Lightning: "Each target can attempt a Reflex saving throw for half damage. The Reflex DC to halve the damage of the secondary bolts is 2 lower than the DC to halve the damage of the primary bolt." So it's DC 20 for everyone besides Rinika.

Savi pops out of the bottle and flies up to Mirah.

“Please don’t hurt me. I found you passed out in the toilet. I cleaned you up and my big friend saved you from drowning in your own vomit. Now all of the big people are killing each other. You seem sensible—can you stop them?”

Savi didn’t have time to clean the woman completely. She points out the vomit on her lap, and hopes Mirah can taste her vomit so she knows Savi is telling the truth.

Conor sees the bolt of electricity arc towards Rinika and acts without thought, calling to his old god "Torm, Give me strength." he mumbles as he focuses, pulling the arc away from the catgirl and towards him.

Sadly even more energy arcs back to him, slamming him again and boiling his blood, cooking him in his armor. Teeth gritted, as he falls, all he can do is gasp "Run .... Live ... "

And dies.

Casting Paladins Sacrifice to eat Rinika's bolt, killing me outright.

Rinika looks down at where she swore the lightning just killed her and pats her chest. The lightning draws her gaze to Conor, and her eyes meet his as the light fades from them.

She screams. "CONOR!" Unexpected tears well up in her eyes as they turn back to the smoking tavern, searching for whoever is responsible...

TitaNik hears exactly where Green Marvent is only a couple of yards from his position near the front door to the tavern. 50% transparency token added back in.

Lunk slashes the Shadowknave’s head right off his shoulders.

Mirah looks at Savi and asks with malice clear in her voice, ”Who set my place on fire?!”

Connor heroically sacrifices himself, saving Rinika in the process. Connor’s right gauntlet turns alabaster white as he dies.

The rest of the gang retreat farther into the tavern.

Savi really believes that part, but she’s acting like she knows more than she does.

He surrendered, then re-started the fight and is partly responsible for your death. There wasn’t really any possibility Lunk would both remain conscious and let SK live.


If anything, he just ruined surrender for the next guy to throw up his hands and beg.

From his perspective you tried to kill him after his surrender. You weren't honoring it. Why wouldn't he rejoin the fight?

Rinika floats down from her vantage and walks up to Lunk looming over Green Marvent. She reaches out and pats Lunk on the shoulder, and when he meets her eyes he finds that they're ice cold. Wet streaks of tears mat the fur on her cheeks, but there aren't any tears coming out right now. The streaks disappear as she strains with effort to move the dead spot to cover her eyes,, hiding that there were ever any tears to begin with. She firmly and insistently pushes Lunk back a few steps with the hand on his shoulder.

Reaching behind her, she pulls the Vampire's combat umbrella from one of the sheaths on her back. Very methodically, she places the tip under the unconscious wizard's ribcage, pointing up towards his vitals. With some effort, she pushes. She pushes until she thinks her dirty work is done. Then, with a scowl, she pops open the umbrella.

Nik watches Rinika finish off Green Marvent, torn between reminding her that he was trying to keep the town from getting shifted and just letting her have her revenge.

Nik can whisper to Rinika while he still lives too, so...

After Green Marvent breathes no more, Nik points to the body and offers "Mind if I clean that up too?"

also, now taht I think about it, this is before we get 8hrs rest, right?

When Rinika looks back up, she looks a little different. Where her dead spot had previously been about the size of her hand, it now stretches across her whole face. The spot flits off to go do what it does.

She nods at Nik, still scowling. She picks over the body briefly for anything of value, then heads over to where Conor fell. She kneels down next to his body.

"You...you s..you sa...you didn't have to do that. And now you've gone and got yourself killed. Idiot. You...." Laying her arms and head down over Conor's armored chest, she sobs quietly for a while.

MaNik and TitaNik waste no time heading into the Bell and Whistle and stamping out the small fires he started earlier. After dragging the remains of SK, GM, another gang member, and the babau into one pile out in front of the tavern, he pulls out an engraved stick which he plunges into the ground.
After double checking his material he realizes that the assassin is still alive and sighs. With a shrug at his smaller list of ingredients, he takes out a Chrysoprase, a Citrine, a Jasper, and two Malachite gems and casts Animate Dead on the three corpses before him.

assuming they all have 1 or zero racial HD and are 'mostly intact'...

The flesh sloughs off of red dripping bone as the new shamblers stand up and look at their new master for orders.
"You, you'll respond to GM from now on, and you, you'll respond to SK from now on. Those are your names, got it?"
TitaNik looks ponderously at the third bloody skeleton as MaNik retrieves his Voidstick.
I wonder if I should use Skellington the Sixth or try to figure out what it is in the dead book...

@GM: please let me know the STR and DEX of these 3 pre-animation so that I can make their sheets. I doubt they have any specials that transfer to shambler-hood... but do they have extraordinary abilities that improve their melee attacks? XD

...and now that I think about it, I'd like the SK skeleton to have a head, but would it attach like with Raise Dead if I placed it back on his shoulders? XD

After finishing up with looting the bodies, raising the shamblers, and handing them some equipment, the two Niks head over to Rinika.
MaNik tries to place a hand on her shoulder.
He opens his mouth a few times to say something, but decides that a few more moments of silence would be better.

Eventually, he says "...thanks for saving me from the tentacles."

Pain. So much pain, everywhere, all consuming then ... peace... and darkness, pitch black and a sense of floating. Quiet, dark, and peaceful. Serenely floating, for how long? Seconds? Minutes? Hours? Days?

Then a glow in the distance, a light, warm, inviting and the feelings of peace increase along with some new feelings. Something unusual, something that he hadn't felt in so long.. happiness? No, that's not right, something more.. Joy is the word.

Suddenly theres a voice.

Far have you strayed, you broke your compact, lost faith in me. Lost your way. Yet, you still kept your vows in your heart even when you questioned, abandoned your faith and were lost. But, when the time came, you acted Good and Right. You knowingly sacrificed your life to save a companion with no thought of gain or even hope of victory, and there is no greater love than to lay down your life for another. Suddenly the darkness is swept away and Conor catches his breath at the beauty. A vast plane of mountains and grand halls of marble, vistas and rivers gleaming in the sun, under a cerulean sky.

As he walks forward he realizes, he can't walk, he has no body, just a sense of floating and an overwhelming feeling of joy.

As he looks over the view, one particular marble hall seems to call his name. As he floats towards it he notices many other beings near him, tiny balls of light floating this way and that, and he hears the voice again.

Welcome home.

Green Marvent:

Blood flies are pests believed to have originated from one of the Lower Planes. In many ways, they resemble mosquitoes with an insatiable appetite -- a cloud of blood flies can suck all the blood from a human body within minutes. Their stingers are capable of penetrating even the skin of fiends.
