K, I'm back! Should be caught up now

Marya folds her arms, but keeps her sword sheathed. She is no particular fan of fey and would rather not deal with them at all, especially not malicious little buggers like these, but the group isn't in a position of major strength, so she adds her support.

"We'd really rather work something out to our mutual benefit. Something a bit more fun that just a plain old fight, maybe."

When Damian, Marya and Vlad speak, they tilt their head as they try to comprehend.

If you were under the impression that these fae were reasonable and open for negotiation, their menacing and envious glares at your teeth quickly changes your mind. Holding their weapons high above their head, they proclaim something in a foreign tongue.

Marya shrugs, having at best been a half-hearted believer in diplomacy in this instance anyways. She advances on the nearest fairy, drawing her sword on the move, then slices at it.

They probably have DR cold iron judging by being fey, but we havent identified them yet, so I don't want to metagame it. She would default to the masterwork sword

Marya's strike is too slow, the winged foe moving out of the way before her blade can land.

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Both of the tiny flying creatures quick however and manage to avoid the worst of the blast.

The two faeries on the far left and one of the scorched one from the north rush forward with their pliers in their hands. Both of them attempt to jam their pliers into Coral's mouth, one of which successfully rips out a tooth from her mouth. She manages to turn her head before the other can get its pliers in her mouth, but it successfully bashes her lips and bloodies them instead. ((1 damage + 1 NL damage + loss of one tooth of your choice! :))

Rajuna's eyes widen as he watches in horror at the site of crazed flying horror dentists as they extract a tooth from Coral's mouth. Rajuna is up then the other faeries. In an interest of keeping it moving since I'm on vacation, I'm going to assume Rajuna deals with the fay in his mouth instead of the other three and I'll go ahead and take their turns to let everyone go. If this is a problem, do what you will and I'll retcon in.

The other three fay follow on the same course as the first three, one targeting Feena and two on Marya. Should provoke from Marya since she has a weapon equipped and has acted.

Marya manages to avoid both of the angry pliers, but Feena is not so lucky. The pliers slams into her face as she screams and cries out in pain as a bloody tooth is extracted from her mouth. All three bloody pliers are held in the air as their attackers cheer in victory.

Coral comes close to hitting the flying fey, but the darn creature just moves too fast and is able to get out of the way her her blade.

Marya's attempt to strike the fey comes up short as well, missing the flying creature holding pliers.

Rajuna's attack is successful however, his blade slicing clean through the fey who just ripped the tooth from his mouth. The creature doesn't even have time to scream before Rajuna slices its body from the air and it plops to the ground at this feet.

Vlad also gets a good lock on the fey before him and buries his flail on the creature. While it should have taken it out, the thick skin of the fairy resists some of the damage from his attack and it still manages to stay in the air.

That is of course, until Damian's arrow pierces its skin and pins it to the far wall, taking it out of the fight.

Missed something from my last post. That will teach me to try and vacation and post at the same time!

When Rajuna and Damian strike down the two fey, something strange happens. Each explodes into a cloud of sparkling fairy dust that clings to everything nearby. The dust smells so foul that it makes everyone sick to their stomach! (Everyone but Coral make a DC10 Fort or be sickened for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds).

The two faeries will fly into Coral/Rajuna's space which provokes AoO. IF you do more than 7 damage (or 5 with cold iron) then you can ignore the paragraph below as it will die and explode in dust again, requiring the DC10 Fort for everything within 5' of you.

The two western fairies continue to advance their attack, flying into Rajuna and Coral's face with their pleirs. At the last second however, they pull their pliers away and sink their teeth into their necks. Though the damage is nothing more than a sting (1 damage), they can feel a strange toxin entering their body. DC11 Fort or become paralyzed for 1d3 ⇒ 1 rounds.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The creatures are entering your space through a five foot step. It's not the act of movement that is provoking, it's them entering your square that provokes. Your AoO is happening when they are entering your square and not leaving their other square.

Flanking Tiny and Dimunitive creatures in your own square has always been a conundrum for me as a GM. As I see flanking it is from your square through another square to your allies square. Since this isn't the space when they occupy the square, I typically say no flanking in this situation.

Given that, both Coral and Rajuna hit their AoO's but neither is enough to put them down. Being paralyzed, Rajuna loses his action this round and we move on to the faeries for more AoO and paralysis action shenagians!

Both Coral and Rajuna hit the annoying tooth faeries, but neither seems to hit them hard enough to swat them to the floor like Vlad had just done. As their poisonous bite takes effect, their movements slow until they completely freeze in an awkward position.

The fey who just stole Feena's tooth giggles manicaly as it waves it around in its pliers in front of her face as she cowers from the tiny flying pest. It lunges for her neck with its mouth, sinking its teeth into her skin (1 Damage, DC10 Fort or become paralyzed for 1 round.)

The other remaining tooth fairy flies into Marya's face and tries to sink its teeth into her neck as well. Generates an AoO, follow same info as mentioned above for Coral/Rajuna. Failure to kill it results in the following:

The fairy critically snips an artery on her neck, injecting the poison directly into her bloodstream (2 Damage, DC11 Fort or become paralyzed for 1 round.)

Don't Rajuna and Coral get AOOs? A 1-round paralysis ends just before the tooth fairy's next turn (like Stunning Fist does) so we would be able to take AOOs - and only the first square you leave with a Withdraw is free of AOOs. So they don't provoke AOOs for leaving our squares, but they do provoke AOOs for leaving the adjacent squares.

If So:

As the plier-wielding flying fey begins to take off, Coral slashes it with her blade and nearly prevents its escape. It's thick-skin prevents most of her sword's damage from getting through however, and it flies off extremely wounded over the wall.

With the fey now gone, the party is faced with an open courtyard with three sets of doors. A double door to the north, one leading southwest and one leading southeast. All three sets of doors are closed.

So is there more than just me that has a tooth that was recovered? I know that Marya's wasn't but that we had one that was. Are there anymore still missing? If not that changes my last IC post considerably as I wouldn't use the spell for just one person.

Damian's feelings towards the fey are slightly less hostile than Rajuna's, but then again he didn't have teeth pulled out of his mouth. He shudders at the thought and runs his tongue over both rows of teeth, just to make sure they're all still in place. When he was younger, he had recurring dreams about his teeth falling off, so the attack of the plier-wielding faeries hits a nerve.

He helps the others search for their purloined teeth, then straightens and surveys the courtyard. He is inclined to go through the north doors and likely deeper into this palace of teeth, but the others will likely want to explore the rest of it as well. He stands patiently, a vague smile on his face, waiting for someone to take a decision.

I didn't think that Marya lost a tooth? She got bitten, not hit with the pliers. Correct me if I'm wrong, though!

Marya marvels a bit at Feena's healing fire. Even though she has seen it before, the display does not cease to impress. Fire, healing people? It's all very poetic and romantic, two things Marya was unused to expecting in this life. Then again, this appears to be a new life, doesn't it?

Marya immediately recognizes the telltale consistency of gold in the teeth, surprising her considering she has never put much effort into knowing how much things are worth. She once tended to a crusader who replaced one of his teeth with a gold one after every successful battle, and he would not cease chattering about how much each cost, and like many inane memories, that one chose to linger on for no discernable reason. Yes, he died within the month and had all of his teeth ripped out, but most of the people she tended to died. "That's what happens when you lose a war."

Marya collects the golden teeth with a bit of extra reverence. "These teeth are worth a good bit. Worth holding onto."

Coral, Rajuna and Feena all lost teeth. Marya successfully defended herself against the attacks. Coral's tooth got away, the other two are recoverable.

I'm going with Damain's inclination to move forward through the double doors.

After Rajuna and Coral declare the door north unlocked and free of traps, they swing it open and move into the large room.

This ornate room spans the entire width of the palace. The north end consists of a floor-to-ceiling stained-glass mural of skeletal knights with halos surrounding an angelic figure. Globs of metal and bits of teeth affixed to the stained-glass angel give it a repulsive appearance, with a mouth far too wide and teeth attached to its fingertips. On either side of the stained-glass mural are two delicate archways. From the room beyond comes the faint sound of flowing water. The southern wall of the room contains two alcoves and a double door.

Coral advances through the palace, watching carefully for traps.
She runs her tongue over the space where her tooth is missing.

The halfling looks at the skeletal-knight stained-glass image. Gruesome.

"Let's search this room a bit before moving through any more doors... don't want to leave enemies behind us."

She goes to look in the alcoves along the southern wall.

I was liking the idea of all the group looking like Hatfields and McCoys with missing teeth!

Vlad snarls as he dispatches one of the fey. "I don't like these--not one bit," he says, though he hadn't lost a tooth or been injured himself.

He takes the lead as they search. When he hears the sound of water, he says "Let's check that out."

Raj moves quietly and cautiously along the wall toward the open alcove, looking for trouble.

If ceiling of the main hall doesn't carry over into the alcove (i.e. there is a wall that comes down to form the opening into the alcove) then Raj will definitely check the ceiling above the alcove entry.

Coral inspects the south and finds nothing of particular interest and Rajuna finds no traps, so they let Vlad moves the group forward to the north towards the sounds of the running water. As he nears the archway leading out of the room, the stained glass angel literally leaps from the wall and turns toward you. It moves menacingly towards you group, the shards of glass that resemble its claws shimmering in your light.

Feenas jolt successfully strikes the beautiful angel, but as the sparks of electricity ripple over its surface it would appear that the angel wasn't injured from that attack at all.

How strange, to be attacked by interior decoration... Damian is slow to react, and is jolted into action by the sight of Rajuna's bright blood being scattered across the floor and wall by the creature's attack. Vlad's flails smashes into the stained glass angel, shattering glass fragments all over the floor. The hardness of the angel's glass and frame seem to absorb some of the blow however, not all of the damage going through. Coral's mace has the same effect, smashing glass pieces from its frame after having her damaged reduced as well.

Damian's shot flies through an area of the angel where the glass had already been shattered, missing.
