So, I know that I'm at the other table, but can we still post here if we are wanting to work out some links with some of the people at this table?

Neat! We've got a gameplay and discussion thread up!

Okay, I just have to say, I'm completely wowed by the mirror opposites that are Jessica and Kavax'Kaotl are.

Without having actually seen the Summoned playbook, it strikes me as definitely inspired by Hellboy. Which means he's an immortal entity forced to live in the human world and get used to what it's like as a mortal.

Meanwhile, Jessica is a human now forced to live as an entity and struggle to retain her humanity while being some sort of monstrous being.

A Divine, a Monstrous, and a Summoned, all in this group? We're definitely the heavy hitter table. That's a lot of Tough.

Monstrous Charm -1, Cool +1, Sharp +1, Tough =0, Weird +3 | Damage: 3 | XP 2 | Luck 7/7

Cheshire is actually -1 on Tough. He's a were-housecat, so... not really that strong.

So how do we want to go about settling on our links?

Also... I can't believe I can't find any black cat avatars on Paizo.

Charm 0 Cool +2 Sharp +1 Tough +2 Weird +1 Harm ○○○|○○○○ Unstable ○

... Oh.

Okay, guess I was wrong about the Monstrous. Looking at the Playbook, I see it's strong stat is Weird.

Monstrous Charm -1, Cool +1, Sharp +1, Tough =0, Weird +3 | Damage: 3 | XP 2 | Luck 7/7

Indeed. Cheshire is a better spellcaster than fighter.

Not that he shares that fact much...

When papa said I'd be caught between worlds, I expected toes in the pool, not getting thrown right in! What do you all eat anyway?

Connections:

• They are your student, apprentice, ward, or child. Between you, decide which.
He’s probably too young for any of these personally; maybe a ward at most.
•They came to you for advice, and your advice got them out of trouble. Ask them what the trouble was.
Easy enough to do. He’s a fairly helpful guy with a safe place for monsters and a fairly large breadth of knowledge despite his tough-guy attitude.

• They know about some of your dark secrets, but they’ve agreed to keep quiet about them. Tell them what they know.
Easy enough to do. The Garcian family does have a spooky mystery in their past regarding their spiritual powers, though many of the recent generations have no idea about it... yet. Not to mention years of self-training may have awoken some dark things.

• A distant relation. Tell them exactly what.
We can work on this together if you pick it. I don’t mind it even being a relation a couple of generations back that happen to bring us together.

• You were previously both members of an eldritch group, now disbanded. Ask them why they left, then tell them why you did.
They asked for too much secrecy and didn’t want him to use his powers and learnt knowledge on the non-initiated, which Carlos politely responded with a burglary.

• They once helped you get a singular item that is now part of your haven. Tell them what it was.
The veil of a llorona ghost. Actually pretty great to find children... though the consequences of using it aren't, um, good.

• You were taught by the same master. Ask them how it ended.
Easy enough to collaborate on. While he gets (some of) his magical training from his Garcian heritage, he knows that physical threats exist as well. Could have had a master in either way. Ended on a sour note with him being too... not great at magic.

• You saved their life in a tight spot. Tell them what happened.
The woods are dangerous places, heck the whole county is; I’m sure a little expertise and a safe haven can help in tight spots right?

I'll get brewing with you all a bit later, have to do some work now.

Absolutely. I'm kinda hoping people send the occasional text message to ask questions of friends and that kinda thing.

And in fairness, the Monstrous does get a move that lets them sub Weird for Tough.

Mixed Humanoid Commoner 34y GM-Player-Writer-Babbler.

I imagine they'll be a bit of back and forth between games, people here are more than welcome to dot in Gemstones to keep an eye on things, if they want.

For finishing up Captain, does anyone else have any healing/medic moves or mobility/access to a vehicle ones? May pick up the other one later, but want to pick for now which one will be most useful within this group.

Monstrous Charm -1, Cool +1, Sharp +1, Tough =0, Weird +3 | Damage: 3 | XP 2 | Luck 7/7

We technically all have access to the basic healing available via the Use Magic move, and Cheshire actually has enough Weird to pull it off fairly well... but it only heals one wound at a time, so it's not particularly great.

Charm 0 Cool +2 Sharp +1 Tough +2 Weird +1 Harm ○○○|○○○○ Unstable ○

I have the move that lets me and up to two other people appear someplace I've been or where someone I know is, so that'll be pretty useful, but I don't think it'll be a substitute for a van or large sedan.

Human Level 4 Expert - Harm 0/7 - Luck 6/7 - Exp 5/5 - Charm: -1 - Cool: +1 - Sharp: +3 - Tough: 0 - Weird: +2 - Holds: None

My Haven has an Infirmary but it's GM decision for how effective it is and how long it takes.

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

Out of curiosity, do you have a rough idea where in Mutton County your Haven is going to be?

And yeah, Healing is not especially great in this game. The best I've seen heals 2 wounds with the chance of whiffing and causing more damage.

Thankfully, you all have Luck to negate potentially lethal damage.

On the downside, it's almost impossible to get more luck.

On the even downer side, several characters will start an Apocolypse if they run out of Luck.

...good times.

Female Spooky

Well, Sarah just gets self-destructive as she runs out of luck. Wait, does that make me the expendable one?

Human Level 4 Expert - Harm 0/7 - Luck 6/7 - Exp 5/5 - Charm: -1 - Cool: +1 - Sharp: +3 - Tough: 0 - Weird: +2 - Holds: None

I'm thinking somewhere just outside of town, maybe near the woods or something, somewhere where you can get a breath of fresh air and avoid the prying eyes of the uninitiated. I'll definitely take a look at the Mutton County gazetteer page you put up. Really its pretty open, it can be anywhere but I picture somewhere a little off-the grid.

@Captain: Would you have wanted to have a similar military background at one point? Maybe even a mentor together?

@Anyone: Does anyone want to know a dark secret? With this group I feel anyone could really fill in that blank. It may be interesting to linked with the Apocalypse with all of our end-of-days themes in the group.

Most of the Expert's are pretty open, Advice, Saving Someone, worked in an Eldritch Cult together... the usual.

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

Yeah, having your Haven be somewhere outside Boisville would keep you nice and central. I assume you're still thinking it over, but in case you missed it your Haven does get three cool things, so you have a third to pick.

Also, I laughed at the Shotgun.

Human Level 4 Expert - Harm 0/7 - Luck 6/7 - Exp 5/5 - Charm: -1 - Cool: +1 - Sharp: +3 - Tough: 0 - Weird: +2 - Holds: None

Oh I thought it was two. Maybe I had the Expert Moves in mind while I was reading it.

Guess I'll grab an Oubliette as my third option. It's just such a cool word to say and I think its one of those super unique abilities that are hard to duplicate.

Was the Shotgun a little too on-the-nose? :P

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

It seemed very accurate. Magic Knife, Magic Bag, Shotgun Bought on Sale...although one of the Use Magic moves does allow you to temporarily enchant a weapon.

And oddly enough my local castle had an oubliette, so I don't find it that strange a word. I probably use it in casual conversation more than most, though.

OK, boys and girls - decide if you travelled as a group, or travelled alone. Then you can post in the main thread and we'll get this party started.

And by party I mean 'brutal serial murders.' It's pretty much the same thing.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Hey, if we're doing good hunter work, it'll be more 'massively parallel murders'. Or were you referring to the monsters?

I'll get a post ingame a bit later, out for the evening and formatting on mobile makes me want to rip my hair out.

Anyone want to pick up a hombre on the way over or do I need to walk? I don't really mind but I'll make you dinner in exchange...

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

Oooh, dinner.

And, eh, murder is murder.

I do have to ask, does no one have a dark deed in their past that I can attach to my connection:
• They are an abomination, and should be destroyed. Except you can’t–work out with them why not.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax'Kaotl… well, he's an abomination, not much argument there. He doesn't really remember it, but you can sense the blood of millions on his 'hands'. Whether that was deserved or not is not yet clear.

Monstrous Charm -1, Cool +1, Sharp +1, Tough =0, Weird +3 | Damage: 3 | XP 2 | Luck 7/7

Let's see, I should do a bit more on these:

History:
*They tried to slay you, but you proved you're on the side of good.
-This seems like the kind of thing that could have happened with Androleteira, given Cheshire's penchant for hanging around places that are seeing trouble.
*They are tied to your curse or origin
-It'd be interesting if Kavak'Kaotl was summoned by the same warlock that later went on to experiment on Cheshire.
*You fought together against the odds and prevailed
-Cheshire's been around a while. Anyone could fit for this that's been in the Hunting business for a bit. Maybe Carlos?

Let's see, for others' connections... I could see Cheshire having this one with Carlos: "They know about some of your dark secrets, but they’ve agreed to keep quiet about them. Tell them what they know."

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Heh. I'm increasingly getting the impression that that warlock must not have been very good at things. Summons a doom dragon, gets one that's undersized, amnesiatic, and uninteresting in unleashing destruction. Experiments on a cat, makes it into a were-cat that kills him. Next we'll find out that he also created a vegetarian zombie, and wrenched open a fell portal to a land of easily distracted, cheerful, and incredibly annoying fairies.

Female Spooky

Do we only have a vehicle if a playbook says so? It only really seems to give out weapons and armor from scanning through them.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Kavax rather obviously can't use public transportation (there tends to be screaming), so hopefully someone else has a way of getting around.

Yeah I would have liked to have a hunting partner prior, especially one with such a strange form. Any idea what we could have prevailed against?

Alternatively it would be nice to have the tension brought on by a dark secret, and I think an arcane cat might be able to even sense that something isn't all right just by virtue of being able to snoop around.

Dark Secret?:

The Garcian family's bloodline goes as far back as the ancient civilizations that once roamed and worshiped in the lands. Their supernatural sense and prowess comes from questionable blood magic, where the next in line can only truly awaken should they sacrifice a willing person. He hasn't made that choice yet but it weighs heavily on his mind. As to who his father chose, that secret died with him but Carlos wonders each day and still tries to speak with the dead to figure it out.

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

So is anyone going to give Kavax'Kaotl a ride, or is he just going to have to hike (or maybe bike something)?

Also, any opinion on Kavax's first Apocalpyse sign, or should I just pick something dramatically ominous and let the rest of you freak out about it.

Professional | Armour +2 | Harm 3 | Luck 0 Used | Experience 1 ||| Charm -1 | Cool +2 | Sharp +2 | Tough +1 | Weird 0 ||| RBaS 3

As mobility seems a bit more useful than medic, Captain will have a vehicle. I'll fix that in her profile in a bit and probably post in the morning. It will be a very professional, and I'm debating between the good traits (2): armoured (+1 while inside), monster cage, & surveillance gear and between these bad traits: uncomfortable or obvious. I'm happy if someone wants to plan riding in the car with Captain or hiding in the back out of sight...

For the first sign - I'm debating between suggesting the dramatic destruction or just something small but still really freaky like all white flowers lose their petals at sunrise.

Human Level 4 Expert - Harm 0/7 - Luck 6/7 - Exp 5/5 - Charm: -1 - Cool: +1 - Sharp: +3 - Tough: 0 - Weird: +2 - Holds: None

If I overextend while doing some character chatting let me know. I just like on the fly improv.

The cage would pair really well with the Oubliette and can have some dramatic rush home before X moments.

As for the sign something subtle but unsettling would be interesting. The flower example is super cool.

Sorry for the delay, everyone. I've just completed a big move, which had me really busy there the last couple days. I'm very sore.

Carlos, since you're the Expert, I was hoping you'd fill the background question:
• They saved your life, and you understand (intellectually at least) that you owe them for it.

I'd like for you to be less a physical life-saving, and more of a metaphysical one. Like, I'd been called to this realm to by someone/something to be used as a tool or instrument of vengeance. However it went down, you recognized that this was not your usual fallen angel/fury and something very unusual. Therefore, instead of banishing me back to the hell dimension where the furies reside, you allowed her to remain here on Earth.

Also, Captain Rose, should I go with you for
• They are, at heart, a good and righteous person. You
must help them stay that way.

or should I go with O'Callaghan?

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

From the looks of all the signs listed, Apocalypse signs are pretty much always quite obvious, unless they're very personal or very bad. But there could be some interpretation involved as well. Things like 'natural disasters' or 'world war' could blend in to modern society, just being a worsening of stuff that was already going on (though people might start wondering about how things started getting so bad so quickly, with seemingly little reason).

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

This does lead to the interesting idea that a recent bout of severe climate change (with the increase in hurricanes and such that goes with it) secretly isn't caused by carbon dioxide, but rather by Kavax'Kaotl being summoned into the world.
Apocalypse dragons; bad for the environment.

@Jessica: That works for me. Anything specific you have in mind or do you just want to leave it more as an idea right now? What I mean is using it as a tool to direct how they handle each other.

Also I just want to confirm, did Jessica inadvertently got turned into a Fury? Or did the Fury become Jessica? Or is it a bit of both?

@Kavax: I say follow your heart then! Nothing bad can come from that advice... right?

Ratings: Charm +0 Cool +1 Sharp -1 Tough +3 Weird +2 |Harm 0/7 Unstable? No | Luck 6/7 | Experience 2/5

Hmm, also, should I assume Kavax has access to some sort of minor obfuscation to keep people from freaking out when he walks into a place? Or is he just going to have to pull an oversize trenchcoat tight, or pretend to be a perfectly normal 7-foot tall human who likes cosplay?

Human Level 4 Expert - Harm 0/7 - Luck 6/7 - Exp 5/5 - Charm: -1 - Cool: +1 - Sharp: +3 - Tough: 0 - Weird: +2 - Holds: None

Are we going to need a reverse Muppet Man?
As much as it would be hilarious it would make any kind of investigation extremely difficult.

Charm 0 Cool +2 Sharp +1 Tough +2 Weird +1 Harm ○○○|○○○○ Unstable ○

Jessica got turned into a Fury for all intents and purposes. She interfered with a ritual sacrifice that was designed to propagate their kind -- essentially giving rise to a new Fury by harnessing all the hate and betrayal of their sacrifices. Jessica was presumed dead in the fire that destroyed the women's shelter, killed thirteen women at the shelter and three firefighters. Her body was never found.

Now, she's got a Fury's drives and passions, but she has all her mortal memories and personality. So she doesn't want to do the things her instincts are telling her to do.

Most likely, her best way of coping is to go after the real evil rather than fight her entire nature, otherwise she'd likely go insane and lose herself to what she's become.

We'll assume you have something going on that, so long as you don't draw attention to yourself, people will just assume you have a skin condition.

A really bad skin condition.

That also destroys the environment.

If you want to stick with the Mexican lore I'm down for something small time like that, maybe Chesire has a soft spot for animals and it could have been important to him. It would say a lot about the character if that's something you might want to play up.

Jessica, more than happy for Captain to be the "They are, at heart, a good and righteous" person. If this were Pathfinder, she would a Lawful Neutral person with her law being the corporation's law...which probably makes it very easy for her to become Lawful Evil but could be helped the other way as well.

Carlos, Captain and Carlos could have met previously on a mixed military and NGO operation.
