"No! Albo! When I get to the bottom of this..." The thought never finishes as the creature falls to combat. I'm back and caught up here.
GM Tyranius |
Norreth Albo constant and quietly mutters blasphemies to himself as Vanyan has little idea what could have befallen the halfling.
Atium moves in and strikes at Albo but ends up shattering one of the display cases instead.
Atium meets the man's horrific gaze. Need a DC 18 Fort Save. Failure is 1d4 negative levels.
The creature has a gaze attack. Anybody within 30 feet meeting its gaze must make a DC 18 Fortitude save or gain 1d4 negative levels.

GM Tyranius |
Tessenarin recognizes this unholy force as a Bodak and decides to power up his companions weaponry. They are very resistant to all weapons unless forged with cold iron as well as resistant to acid and fire. Their gaze alone slowly kills those around it turning them into Bodak's as well.
Bodaks vehemently despise all living creatures and immediately seek to destroy any they encounter. A bodak retains the ability to speak one language it knew in life (typically Common), but it rarely engages in conversation, instead spitting out an incomprehensible stream of vile accusations, curses, and threats. On occasion, a bodak might wield weapons, but most rely primarily upon the effects of their deadly gaze. Bodaks are rarely encountered outside of the Abyss. As they are slow-witted, powerful evil creatures such as liches and nabasu demons sometimes use bodaks as thralls, assassins, or guardians. Bodaks encountered on the Material Plane exude extreme malevolence when forced to confront the realization of their abhorrent transformations. So great is their desire to fascinate ability their fate upon others that many attempt to drag off the bodies of their slain victims and guard them until they rise as undead.
Aishe closes his eyes and manages to stick a bolt into Albo's shoulder as Vanyan gives a small prayer to the group. Vinas helps back Atium up in case more magic befalls the superstitious man. Atium claws and claws at Albo's chest but it seems incredibly resistant to his strikes. DR
Albo locks eyes with Atium as he mutters and spits under his breath. "Piss on your pathetic gods."
@Atium- Need a DC 18 Fort Save. Failure is 1d4 negative levels.
Also, those in the room not averting their eyes need to make a DC 18 Fort save as well. So Atium will need 2 saves.

Atium is last in acting, so delaying post to see results.
Why would you delay? Kill it. Vanyan is waiting on you.
Vanyan roots for *WANK* to tear some stuff up.
GM Tyranius |
@Vinas- Nope that returned with your sanity.
Vinas overhead chops down through Albo's chest, ending the presence of the bodak. A glimmer of hope returns to the halfling's eyes just before death, his final whisper is a small prayer to Sarenrae that seems lost on his lips as he passes.
Hanging around his neck you find:

He checks his miss to see if it's any good. low is bad for me: 1d2 ⇒ 2
He opens his pack and takes out his last bolt. Placing it with the other into his quiver, he notices it's not full. Checking his pack again, he shrugs, "Well, I'm almost out of bolts." He looks to the others, "We'll have to head back to the forge before long or I won't be terribly helpful in battle. My Achilles heel you see. I need ammo."
He stands up ready to continue. "Let's end these cultists."
Vinas uth Antimanes |

"By the blade that was... not easy. I agree Aishe. My heart is ever more hardened. Though, there is wisdom in prudence. I'm drained from our grim work. I could use a rest before taking the battle to its end as well."
Vanyan Kaleseder |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
”Out of bolts? Yeah, that’s not good,” Vanyan says. ”But maybe, just hear me out here...you could try not shooting the ceilings and walls so often with them? I dunno, maybe you could try to hit the bad things? I know you’re cursed and all, but still, I think it’s a sound idea. What do you think about that?” Vanyan offers a cheeky grin with his opinion.
1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 1 = 19 Perception
Vanyan takes his time to identify the Phylactery, but has no interest in the item himself. He supposes that if ever lives long enough to find a real town that he could live a long life of luxury...but that was probably never going to happen.
He picks up the holy symbol of Sarenrae.
”How could that halfling been one of Sarenrae’s? Seems like complete blasphemy to me, that it’s even possible. What’s next? Where are the heroes of the story to set this place right?” Vanyan opines emptily.
Happy to move on after others get healt.
Aishe Danior |
"Yeah, I'm good for another three or four fights, really. Just planning ahead." He pauses, "Yeah, even with the curse."
He grins and lines up by the next door. Dropping a cold iron quarrel into place, he raises his crossbow, and is ready to go.
Vanyan Kaleseder |
"Atium does not look very healthy. Vanyan, can you do something for him? Do we have a wand left by chance?"
Vanyan offers vague words of agreement.
Not sure how to respond to this. The wand is available to all, they can do their own charges.
GM Tyranius |
Aishe observes that these next two northern doors stand wide open.
A wide bench runs along the western wall of this room, facing a mural painted to look like a stained-glass window depicting a sunny landscape of rolling hills. Warmth and the smell of fresh wildflowers seem to emanate from the painting.
The Sarenite priests believed that feelings of calmness and well-being were important parts of the healing process, and so constructed this chamber to aid those recuperating from illness. The mural on the eastern wall has a powerful enchantment that provides light, mild heat, and a pleasant smell. The mural slowly repairs any damage inflicted to it. Despite all their efforts, the orcs and cultists of the Whispering Way were unable to dispel this enchantment, and now they just avoid this room.
Further north refuse is piled in the corners of this simple chamber, which is otherwise empty.
Atium of Varg |
Atium does get some healing from Vanyan with the wand.

Really using a lot of the charges from the nearly empty wand.
Let's go. Check out this whole place and see how we can get out of here.Maybe we can get lucky and find a place that will have a forge. Or a place where we can move the town forge. There's certainly some more raw materials here that can be used to craft you more arrowheads.
Vinas uth Antimanes |
LoH: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 2) = 11 "Rest. Please. Here is a good option."
Vanyan Kaleseder |
Vanyan looks around.
”Yeah, it’s been a rough day. We can probably find a place near here, right?” Vanyan scouts the rooms they have been in, but he isn’t too picky. The room where Vanyan’s token is in is fine. We can close off the doors and hope for the best, I dunno.
”Yeah, let’s get some rest. I can take another crack or two at what is ailing Aishe,” he opines. ”And I can try to recharge the staff a bit. Won’t be much, but every bit might help.”
Vanyan will sacrifice a spell to recharge the staff a bit, back up to 6/10.
Updated the CLW wands.
Atium of Varg |
Atium rests. Happy to have some calm before the upcoming storm.
We should stay in here. The cheerful atmosphere that this picture brings is good. I like it.
If you guys want to stay in that other room, fine. We'll keep the door open, but this room smells good. I like a good smelling room.
GM Tyranius |
Using the display cases you bar the pair of doors here and set in for the night for a bit of rest and healing. The night is not without incidents as the doors slam and creak from something pulling on them. Likely cultists investigating their wounded and dead among the ground floor. According to the voices mumuring on the other side they seem to believe this room to be left untouched due to the Bodak's abilities and leave it alone.
You are all now level 7!

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Remove Curse And failure. Sorry buddy.
"This is one tricky one, Aishe. I just can't seem to knock it," he apologies. "I can try again tomorrow. Yeah man, I dunno."
Aishe Danior |
"It's OK Vanyan. I know you're trying your hardest." Aishe doesn't even look glum. He's accepted his fate, but wonders about whether his new abilities, and more rapid shooting, are going to lead to complications. He'll certainly need bolts sooner than later at this pace.
He gathers his things, surprised they were not molested in the night by cultists. "Should we backtrack, or press on?"
Vinas uth Antimanes |
"We will never give up on it though, we'll find a cure."
To Aishe, "I'm not a fan of leaving unknowns behind us. I want to press on, but I want to do it confident with what is behind us."

Vinas leads the way and opens the door on the eastern end of the cathedral. This room contains three long tables heaped with alchemical equipment, tattered tomes, and rotting body parts. The smell of decomposing flesh mixes with the pungent odors of various reagents to produce a nauseating atmosphere.
Standing in the room are three more of the powerful wights as they sort through a copious amount of notes and samples of different flesh. They don't seem to have noticed you.

Atium sees a line of fire stream out of Vanyan.
that line turns into a full blooming blossom of fire that engulfs the room.
While Atium is startled at this development, he is also battle forged these last couple weeks. He moves into action closing the distance upon the ghoul that seems to have best avoided the fire. Drawing his Adamantine Warhammer to crush it's chest in.
Shakra Drake!
