As if Kali didn't have enough haunting her nightmares already. Nice find, though. Really love framing of it.

Scramsax |

Yeah, reminds me of something from Japanese folklore but can't recall the name.

Scramsax |

He makes himself ready to head out upon the instant, though he allows himself one step of stoic preparation. "Radovan, do you know what that was or where exactly it came from? It would make no sense for us to patch up your ley-line mishap only to have some other mage rend the area asunder anyway, so I would know what the thing that I'm about to end actually is.
Also," he says, making again for the table, "I'm not sure how far away it is so I'm taking your food." He starts stuffing foodstuffs into an empty sack, awaiting his answer.
And at this moment Aterro has bags and bags of sausages and cheese and stuff. XD

So guys I had an idea. Looking back through my favorites was pretty entertaining. I propose a poll: What are Tareth's top 3 posts of all time? I nominate this for number one:
An thunderous explosion erupts from Allison's position. Rotted boards burst apart. Ancient dilapidated beams shake, rattle, and begin to groan ominously as the entire ceiling shudders and lurches down several inches.
Waves from the thunder ripple across the tar coated ghouls. The closest staggers and stumbles for a moment while the second weathers the storm with little noticeable effect. Except for the alchemical bottle held in its hand...
Carefully crafted in the munition farms of mighty Darakhan, the bottle was simply one of a thousand thrown that year by Yirtan the Glassblower. Also known as Yirtan Yellowhands because of the 75 years he spent working the sulphur mines of Vandekhul upon the Sulphur Sea. Of course few called the big craftsman that to his face. Not after he ripped off Mort the Insolent's arms and roasted them in the glass furnace for calling him by that name one dreary day. In fact, in happened to be the same day Yirtan had blown the very bottle in question. Perhaps is was Yirtan's anger, perhaps Mort's flesh changing the character of the glass as it was blown, perhaps just random accident. Regardless the bottle was shipped off with a tiny flaw in its form.
This flaw continued to go unnoticed when the orange clad darakhul alchemists added their various ingredients to the bottle and sealed it before exposure to the air caused another explosive reaction like the Great Burning of '42.
The bottle then spent days trundling along in its crate with its brothers and sisters from the heart of the Empire to the very outskirts of recently conquered Krakova. There it was transferred to its new owner. A ghoul recently assigned to the Legion after its transformation within the tar pits of Marrowheart. Riding the belt of its new owner the bottle traveled once again. This time via foot and slave train to the barren wilds under a wild and lonely forest land between two great bodies of water.
Eventually the flawed bottle was brought to the surface, ready to perform its intended duty with all the flame and fury of imperial dreams. The wait had been long, but the time had finally arrived. Poised its the sticky hand of its master the bottle prepared itself for one final journey. But alas, things did not go as planned.
Instead the enemy unleashes a wave of magic energy. It hits the bottle with a thunderous force that rumbles through its entire structure. The vibration doesn't subside as the spell passes. Instead it reverberates and rattles within the flawed glass. The bottle tries to hold its form together, but it simply cannot. It one final shattering gasp the bottle of alchemists fire is no more. The glass scatters and its internal contents explode upon ghoul and anything else nearby in a roar of furious flames.
"Glory to the Empire!" Shouts the ghoul as it becomes engulfed in fire. A deadly grin upon its burning face as it follows the fleeing Allison and Ibrox to the entrance of the inn. Seeing its enemies run, it grins again while taking a deep breath. Flames whirl and circle within its mouth and then a blast of flaming tar bursts forth from its unholy maw. The burning, sticky spray threatens to engulf the two surface dwellers unless they manage to leap clear.

Oh, this is gonna be hard.
Personally, I love all of the ones with Yumyum in them. :D

Luthael Invictusol |

That's a master's thesis to determine the best, but I agree with Adam. Yumyum is my favorite NPC.

Everyone is free to take another Long Rest and RP as you like. Then I assume at some point you'll want to talk to Radovan and ask him about the sword or whatever other questions you might have?
And Scramsax, no worries on my end, I've been enjoying your posts as well. In fact, everyone has had excellent RP. I'd award Inspiration, but I just did that so I think everyone has it right at the moment.
@ Kali: Tareth let us take a long rest after all the things happened.

Luthael Invictusol |

Doesn't Aterro have any short rest HD?
We're just down HP and this combat's spells, right?

![]() |

When I re-specced and took more fighter levels I seem to have not updated my hit points. I've corrected the math now.

Scramsax |

yellow skinned, and a bit beastial
I got excited reading this and pondering what it could be...but its probably not what I'm thinking. :)

Luthael Invictusol |

@Tareth
Is the Faerie Fire is still affecting the big ugly? If yes, everyone gets advantage to attack, right?
cheeers

Luthael Invictusol |

Is Scramsax and the lady operating in the real world yet?
I'm wondering if spells would be better healing her or damaging something with a million hit points.
cheers

DM - Tareth |

You've moved out of the room where their bodies are both located, but they haven't moved as far as you know and you suspect they are both still in the Dreamlands. Whether healing their bodies here would help them there or not, I think that would be an INT(Arcana/Nature/Religion) roll.
And it doesn't have a million hit points. :D
You all have already carved through almost half of what it has on this side of the portal. I'm sure you'll be fine. What could possibly happen. ;)

In game, I'm a fearless halfling. IRL, I just Narg Nasty 6'ed my pants.

Kalisuel |

Hey all. As you probably noticed, I haven't been on in a little bit. Things have have changed for me personally and professionally. I've been sturggling with some mental issues for a while now that have been affecting things in my life to a fairly severe degree. I have a path forward, and it's going to be hard, but I can do and I'll be okay.
That said, I have also found that the enjoyment I got from playing online is not there anymore. I don't know if it's because I have gotten older or if it's because of the afforementioned mental issues, but either way I don't look forward to post like I did. It's been fun, and I have enjoyed the 10 years I've played on these boards. I need to be honest, though. I don't have the motivation for this that I used to have. I know that it's never fun to have someone leave a game, but I need to consider my mental wellbeing here. I wanted to let you all know that I'm okay and doing well, and I wanted to let you know that I'm leaving the boards, perhaps for good, but definitely for a long time.
Thank you all for the fun times and I wish you all the best. I pray that God will bless all of you. I hope that we'll meet again, but if not, know that I'm alright and will be grand. I just need to take some time to get myself together.
Love y'all
-Adam

Gunnar Thorstein |

Ditto

Gunnar Thorstein |

Thanks, Aterro, rolling better would be helpful of course, and he gets just the one fourth level spell, but the continuing damage with the bonus action for a weak lightning bolt every round is pretty sweet against a stationary enemy.

Scramsax |

Sorry for recent terseness, things should return to normal this week...and probably lots of free time as well, massive snow incoming likely cancelling my work yet again. :)

Gunnar Thorstein |

Mending takes 1 minute per casting, so Gunnar will be busy for quite a while. Feel free to interrupt him if he is briefly needed for conversation.

Can anyone help me with the meaning of the riddle?
Within the dark sanctums of Mara, Lady of Pleasure.
To alter its nature to fit your desire,
these three items you must acquire.
Blood of Marena, her sisters will suffice,
Does we have any clue who these people are?

Luthael Invictusol |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I thought it meant blood from a priestess of Marena who are called Blood Sisters, or their vampire or dhampir friends

![]() |

Actually I could do with a Short rest before we move the scene.

Luthael Invictusol |

Did we get the short rest before this encounter?
And can Luthael land a fireball to affect the two doomspinners and NOT affect Scramsax?
Thanks

Scramsax |

Scram has evasion for 0 on a made save, in a pinch don't mind if you gamble it.

DM - Tareth |

Hey all, since we are down to 4 players and you all are coming back into town, it makes sense to add another PC. I went ahead and invited Critzible from Obermind's game to jump in and join the Narg Nasty 6 in the wilds of Midgard.
He's working up a PC now and I'll figure out how to work him into the narrative as you all land at the old inn and dryad's tree.

![]() |

Sweet. Critzible is always quality.
Also.
@DM: Do you wanna role play Wraith as the resident magic expert? =]

Luthael Invictusol |

Not that Luthael is remarkable, but he is elf marked too. is Kalisuel actually a full elf?

Luthael Invictusol |

Elves turn heads, teh babez break necks.
Yep. It's a chick thing

Scramsax |

...Path of the Hive Tender...
*cracks open the book of bee puns once more* Thank you.
Hehe, seriously though sounds fun. Welcome.

![]() |

Ingryd, I just wanted to say how AWESOME the Path of the Hive Tender looks! Like, the honey thing is mostly flavor. But the swarm thing? I mean, what's the things that make life hardest for barbearians? Ranged people they can't crush, and mages they can't ignore. And the swarm is able to harass both of them.
Brilliant!

Scramsax |

Actually, Scram did lie. There are those chess pieces we could sell for some funds.

Scramsax |

I'd like to find out more about Katrina, then go shopping. Fine doing the shopping off camera, just want to restock all the stuff I had at character creation basically. For that I would need sell price for the chess pieces.

You are able to discover that the individual pieces of the set are worth about 20gp each. Mostly for the value of the raw material, but also because they appear to be crafted in Harkesh prior to the founding of the Mharoti Empire, by the artist Jhalal Keresh. A master sculpture and artist during his time who still has a following of collectors even today. At well over 400 years old, the value of a complete set would be much, much greater than the sum of its individual parts if put in front of the right dealer in Zobeck, Harkesh, or one of the Seven Cities.
You can also learn more about Katrina, from your companions. At least Aterro and Gunnar.

Scramsax |

Radovan rushes downstairs yelling about getting something that might stop the fire. Leaping down from the rafters, Scramsax takes the opportunity provided by the wizards potential destruction of his home to pilfer as much as he can from the battered study. Starting with the luxurious looking chess set, he grabs whatever else catches his eye before the flames and smoke grow too overwhelming and drive him out of the area.
Alright, from that it sounds like I got the full set. So, 32 pieces * 20gp = 640 gp. Split 4 ways I guess, so 160 gp each...a little more than level 1 wealth. I don't know what else would have 'caught his eye' but more gold would be great.
