All good TreasureFox=) just waiting for Edeldhur's now ;)

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Will be playing badminton with colleagues later, that's why I said I was on a bit of a time crunch.

oversized hobbit

You mentioned something earlier about being a coach potato, I begin to wonder if you know what those words mean...

:)

Male Dwarf Archanist 4 / Paladin 3

I might define it as 'a withdrawal from society, be it motivated by apathy or fear, such that one resorts to escapism through the consumption of spectator-based entertainment'.

As you might have guessed, I have never studied law.

oversized hobbit

Nice backstory Treasure!

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Eh. The weather looked like it was going to rain, so instead of running outdoors, I opted for a 30 min jog at 6mph on the treadmill, covering around 2.8 miles. A lot easier running on the treadmill. Usually at best outside I only get 4.6 miles, but again I run longer distances – we’re looking at around 1h outside 3.6-3.8 miles with some pause breaks in between(at traffic light, or just taking a break at destination) depending on the route.

At least sitting in the car and not really exercising(except for walking) in states hasn’t put me all THAT out of condition.

Well I’m a couch potato. In the morning I go run for maybe 3.6 miles or so, then once the sun comes up, I sit in the house and play slay the spire. Isn’t that the definition of couch potato? A creature that sits in the house on the couch, playing computer games?

Ok – I cook my own lunch, either spaghetti or ramen, and in the afternoon I may bake cakes or pizzas.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Cambridge definition of couch potato:

a person who watches a lot of television and does not have an active life

I watched united plates of America last night! While snacking on grapes and a waffle!

Male Dwarf Archanist 4 / Paladin 3

Sounds like you've got an active life.

Thank you John! I'll take a look over everyone else's soon too. Kilarra did a fair bit of town hopping in the southern portion of Ustalav (this may mean that she's been to Thrushmoor, if only for a short period of time before being run out), so depending on your stories maybe the two have met?

oversized hobbit

Hello all, hope your day/night (depending on your time zones) has been pleasant.

Edeldhur! How goes the character? Thousands of choices narrowed down any?

I was curious if you are going to be social in any way. Piotr, Rayland, and Kilarra are all negative charisma in truth. But no diplomacy or bluff between any of us. (I might have missed something so I apologize if I'm mistaken, everyone)

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

My girl (Laelia) has a CHA of 13. She is a social character. Due to the lack of skills (2+Int) for a cleric, I didn’t give her Diplomacy on level 1. But I will on level 2.

oversized hobbit

Excellent Ariarh. Ignore me, Edeldhur. On a side note, cleric's really should get more skills. Why does oracle get so 4 and they only get 2?

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

If Edeldhur also wants to have a charismatic character then I'm fine with it as it'll be nice backup. I'm eager to see what he's decided on playing. :)

There are a couple of cleric archetypes which give 4+INT skills, however they didn't fit Laelia's character/backstory (one replaced channel energy and the other had a cleric cloistered away in a monastery/temple which doesn't really suit Desna). If I chose either, it would have felt like a cheat to grab more skills. But I agree, I wish all clerics got 4+INt skills to start off with. Yet, clerics aren't supposed to be about the skills so much as drawing upon the power of their deities to assist their companions. I get that, but I still lament the lack of skills. ;)

Elf Wizard

Yeah... My biggest mistake was actually to start looking at options. I should have just gone with my first idea and that's that :D

I'm trying to avoid overlap with the rest of the group (think it may get relevant if there is no magic mart, etc) - and curiously enough it all points to Cha+Dex+ranged (Archer Bard).

I'll have something before the weekend is over, that's for sure.

Everyone likes a bard in the party.

Great buffs, solid ranged damage, a secondary healer, lots of skills (social skills at that).

All good things.

But only if you've got a good concept, that's the most important thing. Follow your own advice and play what you like :)

Elf Wizard

The Exchange

Complain about the new boards here!

First day was ok, second day I got irritated.

Because when we were going on our nature walk some extra colleagues wanted to join in, then asked, at the time the walk was going to start, can we go back and get a clothes change? My roommate foolishly let them telling them to show up in 5 min. And of course, it took them half an hour to show up, so the nature walk was delayed by half an hour - if the previous day it was already determined that you were allowed to go on the nature walk in sandals, then I deem a change of clothes utterly unnecessary. Couldn't have been that tough to begin with, else the guide would have required covered-up shoes.

Then my roomate said ok, we're in a hurry, we need to move fast.

Me: Sure (I move fast, as long as I'm not occupied with PBPing)

Then just as we're about to leave the hotel room, she says, wait, I need to instant message the other people to tell them we're coming.

Me: What for? The meeting place is 5 min down the road. Does that 5 min really make a difference? If you need to Instant message others(because once she instant messages others, she'll wait for reply, instant message a few more people), since you were saying we were in a hurry, couldn't it wait till 5 min later when we're at the meeting place?

Then I started calling her out on it - telling her yes, you complain I use the phone on the bus(I'm PBPing duh), but at least I am NOT slowing down any meeting plans. Whereas you, decide to start Instant messaging people that we're going to meet in 5 min telling them we left the hotel room, delaying our leaving time. Double standards any?

Then she said I was a nag.

oversized hobbit

Coffee is not enough some mornings and deadlines are evil little worm like things that eat your brain. Ugh...

Couldn't they message while they walk? And I agree, thoughtlessness about using other's time irritate the poop out of me.

Hope you got to enjoy it despite irritation.

The Exchange

Complain about the new boards here!

If you message while you walk, you walk a lot slower. Not to mention in her case she said specifically wait, I need to message. So she wasn't even doing the walk and message thing.

To be honest if she didn't say we were in a hurry, I'd be perfectly happy to let her take her time, message everyone she wanted. I don't care. I recognize that people have things they want to do on their phones, heck most of the time I do(PBP), so I shouldn't look sideways when people want to do it.

But if you say you're in a hurry, then is it not in my best interest that I make sure everyone sets off ASAP so we are on time? Else later she'll complain, oh no, we're so late etc, etc, its the end of the world.

Maybe you should have thought a little more before you decided to carry an Instant message conversation instead of just walking down to the meeting place and talking to the person?

About holding people up because you PBP on your phone - that's the reason why I will flat out either say, no posts, I'm on vacation, or slow the pace to 1/day, and assuming connection doesn't allow, not post at all.

Sometimes it really isn't worth the irritation fighting a laggy connection that drops you every 3 min or so.

Hey guys, just checking in to show im around and see what's going on.

Started a new routine in the gym this week. Trained the past 5 days and everything hurts. My fingers hurt. How is that possible?

So where is everyone physically again?

I'm in UK, Mort is in Singapore, Edeldhur in Portugal(is that right?), Ariarh in Australia but I forget where. What about the rest of you?

Also what do you guys do for a living? Juat curious about the people I'm hopefully going to play with for the next couple of years :)

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

I am a legal secretary. But since I'm the only legal my company has...so it means I get to read all the documents to look and see if there's anything that screws us over. And tweak contracts so that it reflects the intent of our company. The other party can make their own tweaks to the contract and I'll look through to see if its acceptable.

I generally join gym classes like body combat but today I wanted to try something new so I went for grit strength. Now my shoulders ache, since weight lifting is NOT a strong suit of mine. I'm like 129 lbs lol. I'm a plumpish little bit. But probably run faster then expected for a pen pusher of my size.

I'm better at jogging/bouncing around.

If I'm not at gym class I'm usually running outside during lunch break, since I'm trying to lose weight. I have a light lunch, like a chicken drumstick, as there are only so many hours a day you can/want to exercise(come on, the inner couch potato doesn't want to spend like 4 hours outdoors...though a nature ramble could tempt me), so since calorie input < calorie output, I really have to eat less.

Yes, your fingers can hurt =P Were you trying the rock climbing wall in the gym? ;) Or maybe too many pull ups(possibly with incorrect technique)? That can cause your fingers to hurt.

AC 12, touch 12, flat-footed 10 | HP 8/8 | Fort +1, Ref +2, Will +4 | Str 10, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 18, Wis 14, Cha 8 | Perc +2 | Init +8 | Base Atk +0; CMB 0; CMD 12

Haha no. I added deadlifting back in this week after about 8 months so that was a shock to the system. Im 172lbs at the moment trying to get to about 185.

I'm a natural hardgainer and find it hard to put on weight though. So I'm sitting at my desk in work eating all day, trying to get in my 3k calories while some of the ladies stare daggers at me. I explain that it's literally the most first world problem ever and that it's no fun to keep feeding yourself but for some reason it doesn't resonate with them :D

I don't have kids so have the luxury of time to do this stuff although that's a relative term because im the Head of User Research at the UK government's Office for National Statistics which keeps me busy enough.

So generally speaking I think my time is usually split between work, gym, my gf, our dog, pbp, boardgames, video games and movies Although that is not in order of preference I hasten to add!

Ah being a legal secretary explains why you prefer strict adherence to the rules :p

I'm ENTP if that means anything to anyone by the way so tend to be a little disorganised!

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

*stares daggers at Jamzilla*

You lucky dog. Anyway, males generally have better metabolism because of having generally higher muscle mass as compared to females, which increases your metabolism rate. That's the argument for weight training, which most females avoid because they fear it makes their arm muscles bigger.

Slender arms are... Desirable in females you know. And I've had some of my shirts get too tight because my shoulders got broader from doing push-ups. The good news it's that it's really hard for females to build muscle, so there's not too much chance you'll end up like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Or at least not with a phenomenal amount of effort.

I think of the recruitment post/briefing as a contract between the GM and the players. My recruitment/briefing is that long because of my legal background, so I feel it's only fair that both sides know what are the terms and conditions and willingly accept them. So I try to get to the details as much as possible.

Also I've been burned by GM fiat before since our party had no rogue, and there was no choice but to proceed into a trapped room, which proceeded to flood up. I heard the sound of running water, so earlier I had used a wand of waterbreathing we found. So it took us a while to find the unlocking mechanism and my GM declared that my spellbook was ruined. That's why I'm rather RAWish. The whole scenario did not talk anything about going near the water-we were supposed to navigate a maze underground. And we were only level 3 at that time so handy haversacks were not really a thing. You can take preparations but how are you supposed to prepare for something you did not know anything about?

I am an ISTJ btw.

I live in Western Canada, in one of the larger cities. Beyond the city limits is prairie land and farm land, but just a little further reveals the mountains. The air is very dry up here, and our winters last roughly from October to March. During our short summers we do get some fairly hot weather, but not enough to impress people living near the equator.

I don't work or go to school. I'm in therapy for anxiety disorders and depression. My basic needs are provided in part by the state, including covering the cost of my medicine, and in part by my parents who have been very generous. I recently started working with a company who specializes in finding employment for people with disabilities.

I'm clocking in around 240lbs with short height and a stocky, but very fat build. My long beard and hair makes me a proud Dwarf. I am extremely low energy and spend most of my day playing video games, watching youtube, or writing. After a 10 minute walk my ankles feel like they're going to split. I was swimming a fair bit last month, but I ended up having a conflict with my instructor and I haven't returned since. I do have a girlfriend, but she's on the other side of the city which is a 90 minute commute, so I don't see her as often as I would like.

I decided to do the test in order to answer your question, and I've come back as an INTP-T, which they call The Philosopher or The Architect. Like Mort here, I also consider myself LN, but I'm not quite as strict about the rules. I have a constant desire to improve the system, which means I have to be willing to invent and test homebrew. I justify my LN by means of a strict adherence to honour and loyalty, and a selfish outlook that does not interfere with other people.

I wish you both success with your weight goals. I'll just note that muscle-y women can be desirable. Perhaps not Arnolda level, but I've seen some female body builders that I think look gorgeous.

*kicks a ball in front of Edeldhur*

I did do one of those D&D tests before. Last time I showed as a ranger/wizard, these days I just show up as a monk with super unoptimized stats.

I did do a survey on myers briggs on FAWTL before. Answers came from valid research to people yelling blasphemy throughout. Ahh...the sacrifices we make For Science!

This was a recent experiment done regarding mental health issues in Singapore. I hope you'll be able to continue working with your current company.

On a more serious note, while you're young, even if you're Urm.. horizontally inclined, it doesn't really affect that much, but the problem is that as you get older it puts a lot of strain on your knees/ankles then it becomes a mobility problem. Swimming is a good way of getting exercise if you're overweight as it's not weight bearing. Even if you had a conflict with your instructor, do you know how to swim already? If you do, just get yourself to the nearest swimming pool, start swimming. If you don't, you can find a new instructor?

On the swimming end, I can swim about 3/4th the breadth of an Olympic sized swimming pool underwater. I also learnt butterfly style by watching people in the pool do it.

I'm short. Always wished I was taller, except for the time I went up the Midway Museum and went into antelope canyon. Then I had a good laugh at all the Americans squeezing around. Low beam?

*walks under without even bothering to bend*

Yes it amused me ^^

Ah butterfly, the least practical of the strokes About 10 years ago i used to swim for my county. Not at a great level but decent enough. But butterfly was my best stroke - typical of me to be reasonably good at something that has very little practical application.

Being short has it's advantages Mort, I am average and nondescript in just about every way.

I'm Welsh by the way and will utilise the language as a substitute for Elvish should Rayland ever speak it :) I find pbp a fantastic medium for creative writing and expression and I'm excited to play with you guys

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Butterfly is good for giving your arms a workout ;) But frog is more energy economical and if you really need to push for speed, use fish.

Oh, I never figured how to tread water. Every attempt I made has so far been more tiring then just swimming frog style.

And the results are OUT!

Lawful Neutral Human Wizard (4th Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength- 12
Dexterity- 8
Constitution- 14
Intelligence- 13
Wisdom- 11
Charisma- 11

Alignment:
Lawful Neutral- A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs him. Order and organization are paramount to him. He may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or he may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government. Lawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot. However, lawful neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it seeks to eliminate all freedom, choice, and diversity in society.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Wizards- Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

I resemble a fat whale when I'm swimming. I'm kinda slow actually. I'm like relax...Zzz...and just float along in the pool lol.

Oh I don't mind really. Tolkien derived it from Welsh and I just think that's cool so always use it as a substitute, unlike Golum I'm not precious.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Oh my last attempt at canoeing quite some time back. I paddled myself in a circle because my right stroke is more powerful then my left. And the sun was really hot, so I was wondering in the canoe, gee, I think I'd cover more distance if I just jumped into the water and started swimming.

The problem is swimming in the sea - especially if you don't swim particularly fast in the pull - you have to contend with the tides(not much in Singapore), which you probably won't make much headway if the tides are against you(remember the fat whale bit?)

Then there's also the next problem that I didn't bring my goggles so if the salt water gets into my eyes, I can't see. I can't open my eyes in salt water(not acclimatized). There was once I went underwater to look at shellfish(with goggles), found some small abalones, but the salt water was making my nostrils sting.

That's a point buy of... 7. What. That's not even low fantasy, that's No Fantasy.

Treading water is something I have finally figured out. It did not come naturally, and I'm not confident in my ability to tread for any impressive amount of time, but I can say that the technique finally made sense.

I haven't been swimming due to falling out of the habit and being scared of seeing my previous instructor. I can swim as well as the average person using front/back crawl, but I didn't get to learning about the other styles. This is not new information to me.

That's a cool social experiment, and I really like the letter that was written at the end. I think Canada would react similarly, but mental health is accepted pretty well among the younger generations.

I'm looking forward to play with you as well, Rayland. What makes you associate the Welsh language with Elven? I typically use latin for infernal, and french for undercommon. Elven hasn't ever cropped up. I don't speak these languages, I just use google translate.

I'm pretty short as well, Mort. I'm trying to make peace with it, but I struggle from time to time. Dating was very... well it was a bit of a letdown. The trick was to find a girl who was shorter than me.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Usually for me Latin = Azlanti, Sylvan = Armenian, Draconic = Icelandic, Giant = Hungarian.

Is there only one pool in the vicinity? I mean for us there are multiple pools so instructors would have better things to do then to look for you.

Honestly how the character sorter works is that if you're normal and humble, that's what you get. Unless you like bragging.

I might be able to run faster then the average pen pusher, but that's nothing compared to my colleagues who go around running marathons. Heck, my BF could probably run faster then I do had he decided to push it.

The problem is when you're talking about mental fortitude for endurance, I've got more then he does, so I'm more likely to just keep trucking on.

That is a lovely amount of text on a Saturday morning! Good morning by the way. My wife let me sleep in took the kids driving for donuts... they are not back yet, so naturally worried. But typing to cover...

I'm in the US, Alabama to be specific, but please do not hold that against me :) Nope to sports, walking the dog is my only regular exercise, and I love food, so yep overweight but relatively okay with it, my wife says I make a good pillow. I'm a programmer, making software for librarians. I also unfortunately raised my hand at the wrong time some years ago and became manager of the department. 15 years and haven't figured out how to get out of it yet. I am a horrible speller, while English should be my first language, it is in truth, babbling mutters of incomprehensibility. Neutral Good would be my alignment if I had to pick one... unless I'm in traffic then it becomes Chaotic Evil. Oh and most important a father of 3.

Tolkien was heavily influenced by the Welsh language when creating Sindarin, and it is a lovely sounding language in full flow. But like I said, whatever we use as substitutes for languages in this game is fine by me

Anyways that's the most diverse group I've ever played with. Is English anyone's second+ language? (John's muttering notwithstanding)

Elf Wizard

Turns out I'm a Logician INTP -A/-T ? :D

It is Portuguese Fox ;)

English is not my first language, even if it feels like I haven't written in any other language for years (working for multinationals will do that).

Portuguese, sorry about that

I hear in Europe it's pretty common to speak many languages, so I was intrigued. In Canada we can't really take a long weekend to go to the next country that speaks a different language, but we do have a lot of people with different ethnicity that come in with different languages, cultures, and FOOD.

Welshman! Of course
