There are d1cks like that. There are reasons I don't run games for evil characters. They can screw the party over because they have no respect for life.(Though you can argue CNs are no better)

Sorry, but I'm about to head for my run and I need a while to set up the next post so...

I think the best thing to do with this sort of thing is to avoid players like these.

He's CN *cough cough*

Yeah he waited till I was caught up in a tough fight, then started casting spells on me. Once I was unconscious and dying, he blasted me with a spell. I wanted to strangle him.
Coffee shop game.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

That's why the best thing to do is stay away from @ssholes like that. And had I been judging I'd say friendly fire is only allowed if other party members are willing. Unconscious or not it makes no difference to willing.

I had to tell someone on the table(RL game) once to leave his trophies of (grisly obscene things) at home. Please, not everyone cares for that sort of stuff. Yeah the world's full of toots.

#hatehumanity

Just went for my first 5 km timed run. Turns out I can run 5 km(or 3.1 miles) non stop. Basically I never tried before. I came in 28/41 in position, with a timing of 32 min and 39 secs, so my running speed was about 5.7 miles/h, which is faster then I usually do when I run alone on the streets.

oversized hobbit

Treasure if I could mentally kill someone for you, the a%~$$!& would be dead. But the GM should have said this is NOT allowed. That is absolutely NO way to run a game... so double mental homicide.

Congrates MORT! I would die at 0.1km I'm pretty sure, so very impressed! Willpower for the win.

it is approaching 11pm here, just got done with all the paperwork needed for the lego compitition and am now going to bed so I'm not a cranky ass to the kids tomorrow. Sorry for lax posting... will do better... Sunday?

Have a good night(or day) everybody.

Oh treasure, can this count as letting you know in the other two games that I am buried in real life at the moment.

Helgarr, I'll describe all the wonders of lego robotics once I am breathing again.

Thanks John. I like (most) of the people there, but I'm getting disillusioned with the game style. Evil characters, PvP, new characters always start at lvl 1. I'm gonna try again, but keep my expectations realistic. And if I get a chance to return the favour, I'll slit that guy's throat and urinate on his corpse. It's evil barbarian time.

I don't think you should play with the group. GM and that other player don't seem like nice people. If you start at level 1,wont you be at a disadvantage? And an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

If I wanted power I'd go synthesist, figure a way to get keep watch on your spell list, and never sleep.

But I'll offer you this, I can help you find the cheesiest cheeses if you want more power...yes,you're dealing with the devil now =)

Though this hellcat might be a little rusty on the cheeses, she doesn't know the newer ones.

The Exchange

Oh 5e...eh I know some but not really my vast knowledge of pathfinder. There was some cheese involving moon druids and bears if I don't remember wrongly. And maybe some warlock for armor of shadows while in bear form. Shadow bear? =P

Or maybe magic initiate as human for mage armor, while in bear form.

Bearbarbarians also have potential. Unarmored defense..

Mostly I'd go variant cleric who'd spank baddies with quarterstaff(polearm master), and a shield. So that'd be like 18 AC at level 1.

Even more then pathfinder, 5e requires teamwork because magic items are scarce and the 5e GM is encouraged to tweak monsters on the fly.

If you play pathfinder strictly RAW, I know a guy who built a gestalt character to solo an entire AP.

I have done something similar but for PFS scenarios, for the purpose of learning monster mechanics since I learn better with a "live" target to practice on. Reading the text only gives you that much. And I had to do it in a hurry since my Venture Captain generally gives me only a week notice to prepare new scenarios for conventions.

You do what you must, when the need drives.

Yeah - I know your weekend activity isn't the best, Garrosh.

Laelia: It's been more then two decades since he died. I wasn't even 10 back then, so I don't remember much about him. The whole thing was rather like an occult ritual. Unpack offerings, lay them out at altar. Everyone in the family pray that wherever they are, they are well, and ask for their blessing. Then yak among yourselves. After 10-15 min or so, take two coins and toss them into the air asking if they've eaten. If you get one head, one tail, it means they've eaten and we pack up the offerings and head home. If they haven't eaten yet, then yak for another 10-15 min more, rinse and repeat.

I personally believe that since it's been so long, probably him and my grandmother have been reincarnated somewhere on Earth. We're not Christians, I am a free thinker personally, but I do believe in some of facets of Buddhism(my mom's religion), like reincarnation

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Rayland - Watch this ;)

I recommend anyone coming to Singapore to go to Gardens by the Bay. And Botanic Gardens.

If any of you pop by in Singapore I could tell you the fun nature ramble stuff!

But before you do that, check how tolerant you are to heat and your physical fitness level.

The last time I was hosting someone from FAWTL, my Dad and I wore him out, and we did tell him he really needs to get out more in his home country...

You see, when you tell me nature ramble, I'll take you literally and expect to be on your feet the whole day. The trail is not really hard(proper track and all that), but expect to go upslope and downslope quite some.

I'll be stopping in Singapore for a day or so on my way to Europe next year in August ... I am certain the heat/humidity is somewhat equal to Kuala Lumpur?

And I, too, believe in reincarnation. Thanks for sharing the ritual for your late grandfather. My family is originally from Eastern Europe, and they have their own funerary rituals as well.

If I’m slow to post between responses it’s because I’m at work and can only do so when it’s quiet and not so busy. :)

That's an interesting ritual, thank you for telling us about it. What kinds of offerings are normally used in these rituals? And do I understand correctly that you take them back after everything is done?

I don't have any family or friends within my city who have passed away, so I'm not sure what rituals we would use. My guess is that we would place a flower upon the grave and reflect on our time with them. We leave the flower there until we visit again or an official removes it. You'll find little memorials of flowers or stuffed animals at the site where a person has died, usually from being hit by a car. Since my family plans to opt for cremation, I'm not sure what we'll do. It's not something I've ever really thought of.

I'm Athiest and none of my family members are religious. We do grow up in a Christian society, however.

Hi All, my brain is back from being mush. I'm catching up now. Glad you are feeling better Laelia.

A long long day with a lot of anxiety I couldn't show at all, since it would worry the kids. But WE GOT SECOND! WOO HOO! What that means is we move on to state, 4 teams got to move on and we are ONE!

I was very proud of the kids, they did great, especially since in the first practice runs Nothing worked. But they adjusted, they changed the scheduled runs and never gave up.

Okay as promised, explaining what this mess is, ignore the rest for those not interested. Lego robotics is their mindstorm sets, a central computer that you can connect sensors to and motors, then writing a program to read and move. The competion is a season, where the have a board with lots of lego sets velcroed on it, each one representing a mission that if you can do, you get a certain number of points. But you only have 2 and a half minutes to do it all in. They also have to design a project that tries to solve a problem relating to the season's theme, which is long term space travel. All in five weeks. Our team is made up of ten 10 and 11 year olds.

For example my portion of the team, Team Pie, had to travel all the way across the board (using the gyro to turn right, and the color sensor to detect the amount of light being reflected back to it from the board), all to get to the exact right spot and then slam down an arm they built to move a lever 29 times (they learned while loops are awesome)

Okay done gushing about lego and the kids. Now to read to see if the townsfolk killed us.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The offerings are the things they liked to eat in life. Like for my grandfather, he loved white fungus soup, so we cooked it for him. The others would be what consists of a meal, and also dependent on which temple the tablet is placed.

Singapore is densely populated – so we don’t get graveyards with tombstones. Unless you’re filthy rich. So we have a place reserved, multi storey in a crematorium, and then we will have a tablet in a separate temple. Once a year we clean up the place in the crematorium, then we pray on the death anniversary at the temple.
Some temples will state vegetarian food only, then you’ll just go by their regulations and get vegetarian food. If meats are allowed then usually we will have two meat items, two vegetable items, desert, fruits, tea leaves, water and cooked white rice.

The irony is that in life we all live in high rise buildings, and we do so when we’re dead as well.
Yes we do take them back when we’re done. Because space is a premium, so you can’t leave offerings there else the next family has no place to put their offerings on the altar for them to pray. So that would be very inconsiderate not to do so.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Laelia – the weather in Singapore is pretty much the same as Kuala Lampur – Kuala Lumpur is 316 km north of Singapore. And you should stay longer (3 days? :P), there’s lots of fun stuff to do in Singapore!

No really, how long are you staying, and what kind of things interest you? We can plan something out =)

The majority of my family is Irish Catholic, well the American version of it at least, which means our funerals involve lots of talking followed by lots of drinking. Personally I'm agnostic, I truly have no idea so am happily open to anything being a possibility. The Southern United States, where I live, though is VERY religious.

Thank you for the details you gave Mort. It is fascinating to learn people's traditions, even for sad events.

Laelia, I am very sorry if Piotr ruined any of the goodwill you fostered with the townfolk.

My post came just before yours - with another diplomacy for them to tolerate us at least ... Shrugs. We'll see how that goes.

Mort, can the others in the party piggyback off Laelia's good diplomacy and not have to roll Diplo themselves at a penalty? I know GMs have different ways of dealing with this, and, I'm unsure how you like these things to go.

Plus, maybe, in future, if the others have questions to ask, they can have a quiet word to Laelia first and she can ask diplomatically on their behalf? :) It'll save the goodwill gained, goodwill lost scenario.

oversized hobbit

Or maybe at least they can just throw horseshoes at Piotr?

I am perfectly happy having Piotr's diplomacy check being ignored. I wasn't sure if I needed to roll or not, and winced more than a little once I rolled it.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Yeah just go and cart of Laelia's diplo.Once the townsfolk are talking, unless its something against their nature, you don't need to roll diplo, just interact normally they'll answer.

Excellent. Thanks, Mort! :)

And re the stopover in Singapore - it's a quick break so we don't end up travelling almost 24 hours as I'll go stir crazy on the plane for that long (I don't sleep on planes and start to feel closed in after many hours - side effect of being claustrophobic as a child). The hubby's stopped over in Singapore before (this will be my first time - we generally stop over in Abu-Dhabi or Dubai, but I don't really like either place - although the hotels are opulent!) Once I find out more, I'll message you re things to do. Thanks. :)

As an aside, I chuckle every time I have Laelia speak to Matthew as that's my son's name. ;)

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

You should be proud of your kids. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! And they did it! Grats on winning a chance to go to state level!

How do you write a program on the computer that comes with it? What language do you program in? And what other types of missions(other then yours) are you expected to do?

Don’t worry I’m horribly Luddite so giving me the lego set, I’m sure your kids could do better then me on it.

When it comes to lego, the only thing I do with it is follow instructions(yeah part of my lawful nature). My BF on the other hand just builds whatever he likes with the bricks.

Never been to Singapore, but I've been to Abu Dhabi and Dubai several times for work related reasons - can't say I was overwhelmed by it, but then again I was working most of the time...

---

As for Diplomacy and Intimidation: I am perfectly aware Pathfinder rewards way more the uses of Diplomacy than it rewards Intimidation. In fact, I actually find that, unless you are using Intimidation mechanically in combat to apply conditions, it is a skill generally frowned upon in interactions (of course intimidating someone is not the way to relate to another socially, please understand I know this :D), and almost always has some sort of consequence. As an example - a great intimidation roll will cause revenge at a later time, or an ambush, or whatever. Why is it great diplomacy rolls don't result in infatuation, stalking and/or obsession (I am 'kinda' joking here, but still..) more often?

Still I get all that, but unfortunately we cannot all be great diplomats, and even though when my characters are 'bad diplomats' they tend to simply remain silent most of the time, sometimes I have a hard time funneling all conversations through one person. It works out most of the times, but other times Garrosh will say his piece, and he may be aggressive as he has a lot of stuff accumulated inside, a lot of anger about recent events. And in a situation such as the one which occurred, he would not remain silent, and waiting for someone with better social skills to speak. It is just not the way of the character.

What I mean is, if he acts so it is not with the intent of being a brat or making things difficult (I don't think I am a disruptive player) - it is simply what the character is. I obviously respect and want to play the game with everyone who wants to be a diplomat (Heck! Garrosh sometimes wants to be a diplomat too! :D). I hope everyone feels the same toward a character who may NOT be a Diplomat all the time hehe.

Rough and tough characters need a home and friends too!

Not sure I explained it all correctly :D

No worries, there, Garrosh. I don't mix up player and character and never thought you were being a trouble-making player. I just tossed up the thing about getting Laelia to ask the questions first to save us the to and fro with the townsfolk. Best get them on side as it makes for a relatively easier/calmer time with them, especially if we mean to gather information from them. :)

Beat Saber is a 2018 virtual reality rhythm game created by Czech-based indie studio Hyperbolic Magnetism in which the player slashes blocks representing musical beats with a pair of energy blades resembling lightsabers. The game has been released in early access for the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality on Microsoft Windows PCs,and on PlayStation VR. Beat Saber is playable on Linux via Valve's modified distribution of Wine.

But you need to buy the VR software which is the expensive part.

If I were you I'd get the PC version - so you can get more songs. Though if you use custom songs, likely the difficulty is harder then the standard ones.

And yes, someone did use it as a workout

You see, I'm playing for free at the mall when no ones using the VR set, so I'm limited to 2 songs per day. I'm wondering if I should jack up the difficultly or try aim for a higher grade on normal mode first.

The Exchange

Id say that people playing beatsaber draws a crowd of onlookers, even if I don't do it well(coordination issues, I'm clumsy). The staff there could do the demo, but why waste energy when I'm willing to do it for free (albeit not very well).

But on a more serious note, you probably can't do it for very long. I think at most I'd manage at most about 30 min? It's tiring. And I'm not exactly untrained for this kind of thing, since I go for body combat gym classes like 4 times a week and sometimes 2 classes in a single day. So when it comes to aerobic exercises I'd say I have had some practice at it.

oversized hobbit

It's a visual language, each block is an action. For example, turn motor, can be done in rotations of the wheel or number of seconds. Turn the two motors that we have assigned to the wheels at the same time then it moves forward. The kids made functions so they can keep things together and call them instead of having to rewrite things over and over. So turn90ccw. I made the mistake of telling them their functions could be named anything, so peanutbutter is the program to move until they reach the white line on the board, which reads the color sensor until it hits the sharp contrast. We also have banana and coconut cream pie... my four kids are very food oriented. :)

Mission wise there at 15 on the board. We tried 6. Though only succeeded at 4 at a time. The neatest is Crater Crossing, a lego set built to look like a large rough crater that you have to drive over and knock over a 'finishing line' but you can also push a rover (that you have to build yourself) over it instead. The kids did that, the rover is carried on a two structs, then it tilted off when it hits the crater.

Here's a link to them all

oversized hobbit

If you tell the staff that you have been telling people on line about beatsaber maybe you could get an additional song? Marketing and all.

Reason why I was rather slow in my posting was …I was pushing plot in Ironfang Invasion – since Disable Device and Perception are automated for Take 10, so basically it was just clearing through all the rooms(lots of GM work posting room description and loot). So yeah your GM was busy. Then also I was also hoping to make sure that yes, the party really DOES want to watch Matthew sleep, since it’s a rather odd request. I apologize for the delay.

Also I'm one of those people who don't do social media.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

So you have 2.5 minutes to complete all 11 missions? Do you know the missions before hand, or not?

Do you bring the already built and programmed lego sets to do the mission or is it that you need to build, but not required to program on the spot(since you were saying your kids had the functions already programmed out, with foody-themed names)?

They know the missions beforehand, they are announced at the beginning of the season and have a duplicate board at our school. So all programming and robot design are done before hand (though all parts on the robot have to be lego parts).
Unfortunately nothing every goes exactly like they programmed it. Which is why at competition you get three runs at the board, and only the highest score counts.

The lego league is international, Garrosh, our kids could compete against each other :)

The technology is secondary to the love of problem solving Mort, which sounds like you have in spades.

So from my perspective, Rayland is seeing this night time visitation as nothing more than a learning opportunity. He doesnt care about the human element, that Matthew is experiencing something genuinely terrifying. He doesnt give that a second thought and in fact wants him to just so that Rayland can see what happens.

Its an opportunity to study the effects that a Dennizen of Leng can have on a person.

He is Evil after all.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

At some point of time the party will have to decide which leads they wish to pursue, since basically no one's going to be yelling over your shoulder on how you want to conduct research, especially since Rayland hasn't used the communication device yet.

Yesterday I was also watching Crimes of Grinderwald with my BF.

oversized hobbit

I took my family to it yesterday as well. Did you enjoy it?

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

I liked it, it was cool, but let me gather my thoughts and I'll start pointing out plotholes.

Crimes of Grinderwald:

Why did Dumbledore send Newt to deal with Grinderwald? How did Newt know that the talisman(where the bloodpact was focused on) was what Dumbledore wanted?

If Credence is a null, thus able to use the Obscurius, how did he use a wand to blast in the end?

How is Grinderwald able to escape the carriage without his tongue? In Harry Potter verse, I suppose it's non-verbal spells? Where did he hide his wand? Since wizards can't perform magic without theirs.

I know Dumbledore and Grinderwald were gay partners, not too different from Charles Xavier and Magneto.

My BF complains I spoil movies by getting too logical about it.
