Additional note, while we’re in discussion! I’ve put Discord channels together in the past for parties I’ve been a part of; they can be useful for asking for quick clarification, letting each other know when we’re gonna be away, BONDING!!! and such. If some or all of us would be into that, let me know and I’ll throw one together c:

Are you talking a Voice or Text discord channel, Vulpina?
☠ ☠ ☠
I’ll post the ground rules now in case there are any questions. If you have gamed with GMs like CariMac, Hmm or Shifty there shouldn’t be any surprises.
⛵ Please make it obvious what buffs you have active and what your AC is.
⛵ Miss is always low if a miss chance applies. For example, if there is a 50% miss chance on a melee attack, a result of 1-50 on d100 is a miss.
⛵ I generally allow PCs to roll their own saving throws and Attacks of Opportunity (AoO). However …
⛵ I like a relatively fast-paced scenario. I find when a game loses momentum, the fun is quickly sucked out of it.
As such, if you do not post an action within 24 hours from when I invite you to post, I reserve the right to take actions for your character.
⛵ If at all possible, please let me know if something comes up that prevents you from posting.
⛵ If I make a mistake on the current combat round, please let me know and I will try to make it right.
⛵ I will roll group initiative and track character actions.
In the example below, the PCs highlighted in bold text can post actions in any order and I will adjudicate those actions in the order they were posted.
You can delay to a later position in the initiative sequence, as usual.
Initiative Round #2:
Party Buffs: bless, inspire courage +1
Wisp (invisibility)
Garduk (-9 hp)
Lady Vulpina
--
Captain Pugwash (helpless)
Tom the Cabin Boy
Master Mate
--
(Not) YANNDU! (needs a DC 19 Will save or *HEAD EXPLODES*)
Bouncer (entangled)
Noke
--
Cut-Throat Jake (bleed effect)
BOLD may act!
The MAP will be in my header AND at the top of the page.
Questions? Let me know here in Discussion or via PM.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Sorry! Long couple of days at work, so I missed the Flaxseed Recruiting thread post.
Player Name: Tusk the Half-Orc
Character Name: Garduk the Unteachable
Class and Level: Arcanist (Occultist) 4
PFS#: 199504-7
Faction: Dark Archive
Track: Normal
Day Job Roll: Craft (bookbinding): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Prior to the scenario, he would like to make the following purchases/sales:
Sell 3 scroll boxes = +7.5gp

Scroll of false life x2 = -300gp
Garduk will also scribe the following spells from rented spellbooks into his spellbook:
Frost fall = -60gp
Web = -60gp
Glitterdust = -60gp
Spellcraft rolls for scribing spells (all 2nd level, DC 17):
Spellcraft, take 10, cheat sheath: 10 + 11 + 2 = 23
Spellcraft, take 10, cheat sheath: 10 + 11 + 2 = 23
Spellcraft, take 10, cheat sheath: 10 + 11 + 2 = 23
In the next couple of hours, I will reset Garduk's statblock and update his profile page with anything added in the last scenario and the purchases for this one, and then I'm ready to start.

Hi Bouncer,
It’s great to have a rules doyen along with the diplomacy skills to match!
♒
No worries, Noral and welcome!
I plan to start as soon as everyone checks in. I’m kinda surprised that hasn’t happened yet.
Maybe some of the players still have their preferred PC involved in Game Day VII or something? (Which is no biggie, I’m sure we can sort something out :)
I’ll prolly nudge the player-base with a PM over the weekend.
HERE is the PC sign-up sheet again for reference.

While we’re waiting, if anyone has any unusual abilities or combinations of abilities, can you please tell me about them before the game starts?
It will prevent any delays during the game if I ask questions now, rather than in the middle of combat.
EDIT: Welcome, Garduk! We must have posted at exactly the same time ;)

Party grit/panache user here, apologizing ahead of time!
Vulpina gets a +1 to her AC against any adjacent opponent (abbreviated in my stat header). Given her frankly ridiculous amount of grinache, she will use Gunslinger’s Dodge (preferably the 5-foot-step version rather than dropping prone) or Dodging Panache at every opportunity unless otherwise mentioned, especially if she can use them to escape Full Attacks.
She’ll also use Charmed Life when applicable on anything but a Reflex save, but I believe saving throws are still made by the players, so I’ll mention when I’m using it.
Garduk the Unteachable |
How much grit/panache could you possibly ...
Oh. My.
My level 3 swashbuckler (mouser) with a whopping 3 panache points (boosted to 4 for one minute per day) is very very jealous.
Lady Vulpina |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
If you live around here, you need lots of panache!
If you live in town, dear, then you must cut a dash!
Edit: though for what it’s worth, she would refer to it as “grace” if anything :P (I call it “grinache”)
Garduk the Unteachable |
Garduk's unusual abilities, usual tactics, etc. (Q&A taken from another GM's questions in a recent game):
The occultist arcanist archetype has standard action, minutes-per-level SLA summoning. If he summons an elemental, it receives temporary hit points equal to the level of the spell used to summon it, from the Outsider Ties faction trait (currently this means 2 temporary HP). Garduk's most-used racial ability is orc ferocity (squishy caster is squishy).
Garduk has, in addition to the usual assortment of boons that provide situational benefits in circumstances that almost certainly will not apply in this scenario, the following single-use boons that may come in handy: Sight of the Cyclops (PSS 8-21); Enlighted Ambassador (PSS 6-19); Library Card (PSS 6-02); Chalice Champion (PSS 8-18); Infused Extracts (PSS 8-18); Explore, Report, Cooperate (PSS 5-08). I can provide details if you want them at this point.
I have a PC Portfolio and a single GM-star to add to the reroll, as well as a Dark Archive faction pin which provides additional bonuses to specific checks.
Garduk likes learning languages and has picked up quite a few. He has broad knowledge skills, and travels with several heavily annotated volumes of Pathfinder Chronicles, which he will quickly flip through to boost his recall (assorted bonuses to knowledge checks) if he can spare 1d4 rounds.
Garduk generally summons on the first round of combat if there is more than one opponent, and tries to position the summoned creature to give one of the front-liners a flanking buddy. He will cast Vanish on a stealth fighter if it looks as though there is a advantage to be gained from it. Because arcanists have fewer spells per day than either wizards or sorcerers, he tries to limit his own casting to one or two spells per combat after summoning, especially if he thinks he may need to convert that spell slot into an arcane reservoir point. He uses scrolls and wands - and even his crossbow - to fill in the gaps. Garduk offers to cast Mage Armor from his wand on any PC who appears to be under-armored, because he feels that the more well-protected the rest of the party is, the less likely his own personal blue-green skin is to get filled with holes. Also in the burns through charges on his wand of Shield as though they're about to reach their "use by" date, casting it on himself early and often if there is any possibility he might become an adversary's target, because he has quite enough scars already.
Lady Vulpina |
So for those trying to figure out which character to play, we're currently looking at:
Mixed Martial/Medium Range (Vulpina)
Arcane Summoner Mage (Garduk)
Baozi (Baozi) I can't actually tell what your deal is, but it looks like maybe extract-boosted, rage-boosted martial with potentially insane reach and a lot of skill points?
So we've got a good foundation with room for pretty much anything you've got a hankerin' for, although divine magic or long range could be useful.
Lady Vulpina |
Oh—I should also mention that Vulpina keeps a coat pistol on her person and carries a sword cane, both naturally hidden. I can roll for those when necessary if you’d like, or up front. Not sure how likely they are to matter, though.

@Garduk, can I ask you to add an appropriate icon for any summoned critter to the battle map and a spoilered stat block in Game Play or link to its stat block on say the Archives of Nethys, please?
I note you can only have one summons spell active at a time, and copy that about standard action summons + minutes per level (Nice!)
I should also mention that Vulpina keeps a coat pistol on her person and carries a sword cane, both naturally hidden. I can roll for those when necessary if you’d like, or up front.
I see you have gamed with the most excellent GM Tyranius, Vulpina.
If it does come up, I’m happy for it to be handled the same way Tyranius did. Or if it never did, I’ll leave it up to you.
Picaroons trade away the parry/riposte ability, right?
@Bouncer, copy that and thanks.
… And good morning, Master Emberflake! With Wisp’s arrival, I need only nudge PDK, before moving scene in Game Play.
I’d like to think that will happen sometime on Monday (US time)

No problem, Almaas. It’s all good ☺
Let’s have the sub-tier chat, Pathfinders.
⚀ Almaas 3
⚁ Bouncer 4
⚂ Garduk 4
⚃ Lady Vulpina 3
⚄ Wisp 3
⚅ PDK pregen 4
Mark 2000 APL calculator: 3 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 + 4 = 21/6 = 3.5
Under Season 10 rules, there is no adjustment for the number of players at a table.
So at present, we are firmly in sub-tier 3-4.
PDK said he was looking at playing a pregen 4, which is totally fine. I note he could bring a level 2, 3, 4 or 5 PC and we would remain a legal sub-tier 3-4 PFS table.

Got it. I'll add the tokens for Garduk's summoned creatures as we go, and will add the tokens for his most common summons to the side of the first map to have them handy. Meantime, here are the links to the aliases for his most commonly summoned pals - they all have taglines and full statblocks on their profile pages.

Picaroons trade away the parry/riposte ability, right?
The hidden weapons are new, so Tyranius never had the opportunity to worry about it. I think, since they're supposed to be a secret roll, the best way to handle it in PbP would be for me to assume they're hidden unless someone frisks me for them, in which case I'll have to roll for it; that way, I don't know until it matters.
Picaroons do in fact trade the parry/riposte ability for the ability to shoot in melee without provoking AoO (provided I spend a little grit on it). I tend to prefer not to bother with that and 5-foot-step to avoid it, even if that means doing so in the middle of a full attack.
Also worth mentioning: Vulpina has the Never Stop Shooting trait, so she doesn't go unconscious when she goes below 0. She instead is Disabled and may draw, reload, or fire her weapon.
Technically it doesn't state whether or not I'm forced to go prone or not, and if you go by the rawest RAW there is, I don't even have the option to go prone unless forced. Your call on how to handle that one-- whether I'm forced prone, may choose to go prone, or cannot go prone unless forced. Each option seems pretty cinematic to me!

Never Stop Shooting trait
Whoa! That’s a trait-and-a-half.
She instead is Disabled and may draw, reload, or fire her weapon.
Yep, I get that ☞ She would be “disabled rather than dying” (as if she possessed the Diehard feat)
Your call on how to handle that one-- whether I'm forced prone, may choose to go prone, or cannot go prone unless forced. Each option seems pretty cinematic to me!
I get what you’re saying with respect to both the prone issue AND the cinematic qualities of each ‘option’.
My first reaction is the mental gymnastics of trying to make all the “disabled – Diehard (but not?) – prone” rules play together nicely is not worth the effort, compared to the size of the advantage a PC might get for deciding when or if she can fall on her bum.
As such, why don’t we say you are NOT forced prone, but may choose to go prone, if this situation arises.

Works for me! Sometimes you need to fall down and stay quiet so the baddies don't decide they need to finish you off right away... and sometimes, you need to stabilize.
And sometimes, you need to pull off a clutch shot or the whole party dies. (This has happened before. Goshdarn evil clerics!)

Failing that, I've got UMD+8, so I believe that makes me the best wand user for any spells nobody can cast otherwise.

Garduk, you can let your friend know cure magic works/(doesn’t work) on summoned creatures the same way it does for their conventional counterparts.
I understand a lot of players don’t bother healing summoned creatures because of their summoning spells’ short durations. Sadly the throw-away society also exists on Golarion ;)

RE: Purchasing. Tymon is a large town, with a base limit of 2,000gp and 5th level casting. It contains a small temple of Gorum.
However, you will meet the Sellen river boat taking you to Deadbridge in Daggermark which is a metropolis, with a base limit of 16,000gp and 8th level casting.
It contains temples of Cayden Cailean and Norgorber.
I will also roleplay some of this info in Game Play ;)
TL/DR: You can buy gear up to 16,000gp BEFORE you board the boat to Deadbridge, as long as you follow normal PFS Fame limits/always available/”it’s written on a chronicle sheet” rules.
Longbow upgrade noted, Almaas, though I believe the cost is usually 2,000 gp.
I allow players to account for their PC's buying/selling habits in their personal Inventory Tracking Sheet (ITS).

Heh.
Ordinarily I wouldn't consider it - Garduk uses the wand of mage armor on some of his summoned creatures to keep them in the fight longer, but healing with a wand is almost certainly going to be going on after a combat. Even at a minute/level, the summoned creatures only last for more than one combat if the fights are very close together.
But since we have a challenge...

Oh sorry! Then no Longbow +1 for Almaas. ;-)

I um’d and ah’d before deciding to provide Factions Missions for Dark Archive, Scarab Sages and Sovereign Court. They may provide some useful background for the main mission, but I also just like Factions and try to incorporate them whenever possible.
Unfortunately the Andoren (Liberty's Edge) and Qadir (Exchange) faction missions were outdated or naff or both, so I decided against including them.
However, there is NO OBLIGATION to complete the FACTION MISSIONS, in order to gain the full rewards for this scenario.
Questions? Ask me here or via PM.
