Why do I have the feeling that I'm about to do something reckless?
I'll wait for Maiitsoh to make his roll before advancing.

Taylor MacConnel |

Boy, I hope this shakes out all of the bad rolls in my dice early on because... yikes. I won't last long if my charcter continues to be this hapless on rolls.

Maiitsoh |

My bad- I’ll have my profile and top-bar stats up as soon as I get a free minute at my computer. Thought I did it earlier, but I guess not.

Sebecloki |

Just a point of historical interest -- there was a cypher called Deseret script developed in the early days of the Utah territory -- it's probably connected with Joseph Smith's interest in 'Angelic' languages and all the linguistic phenomenon associated with the Book of Mormon translation -- like the idea that the golden plates are written in 'Reformed Egyptian'. It's a fascinating slice of Americana. The experiment was dropped pretty fast, but it's one of the period details associated with Masonry/Temple Rites etc. that will be a part of the historical coloring of this scenario.

Taylor MacConnel |

@Maiitsoh
You're just trying to give the poor girl a heart attack aren't you? ;p

Maiitsoh |

In his defense, it has been something like 20 years since he’s seen another human (in a social situation at least), so....

Taylor MacConnel |

Whoops, I forgot to add some situational bonuses to my character sheet from one of my archetypes (guerilla). Fixing that now.

Taylor MacConnel |

Umm... any idea whose turn it is?

From the GM:
I just wanted to update -- I'm totally planning to run this, but this is about my worst week of the whole year in terms of school and work -- I'll be moving to a weekend shift at my lab next week, and then have plenty of time to post on my games on weekday mornings.

Taylor MacConnel |

Ah, I see. Thanks for forwarding the heads up.

Maiitsoh |

My bad- I'll fix that once I get a spare minute. I think I was thinking of wound thresholds.
Does Fast Healing affect either wound or vigor by my choice, similar to magical healing? That seems to be what the rules point toward.

Jamisen Tinsson |

In another thread (Numenera Recruitment) we discussed Fast Healing and how it affects wounds... The most "RAW" that we could come up with, from my perspective, was that EX fast healing from a template heals vigor normally, and heals wounds at 1/round. The other option would be to compare it to the Heal Spell, which heals 10 HP per caster level; it is called out in the SRD as healing 1 wound point for every 10 HP it would have healed. So FH 2 would heal 1 wound point per every 5 rounds. I'd call it 2 wound points per minute in that case.
Quoted from the other thread:
From the SRD:
Regaining Wound Points and Vigor Points
A creature can regain wound and vigor points in a number of ways, but in general it is easier to regain vigor points.
Healing Spells and Effects: When casting healing spells or using an ability with a healing effect (such as channeling holy energy on living creatures or the paladin’s lay on hands ability), the creature casting the spell or using the effect must choose whether it wants to heal wound points or vigor points. The creature decides this before casting the spell or using the ability. When that creature decides to heal vigor points, the healing spell or effect acts normally, replenishing a number of vigor points equal to the number of hit points the spell or effect would normally heal. If the creature decides to heal wound points, it heals a number of wound points equal to the number of dice it would normally roll for the healing spell or effect. In the case of effects like the heal spell, where a spell or effect heals 10 hit points per caster level, the creature heals its caster level in wound points. For instance, if a 12th-level cleric uses her channel positive energy power to replenish wound points to living creatures, she would typically heal 6 wound points for all living creatures with her channel energy burst. If she casts the heal spell, she would restore 12 wound points to the creature touched.
Rest: When a creature has a full night’s rest (8 hours of sleep or more), that creature regains all its vigor points and 1 wound point. If there is a significant interruption during a rest, the creature regains neither wound points nor vigor points. If a creature undergoes complete bed rest for an entire day, it regains half its level in wound points and all its vigor points.
Restoration and Similar Effects: When a creature regains Constitution points by way of the restoration spell or a similar effect, that creature regains 2 wound points for every Constitution point regained. Relieving a Constitution penalty or Constitution drain regains any wound points that were lost from that penalty or drain.
So, magical healing heals vigor normally. A 8 hour rest heals all lost vigor. Healing CON damage/drain is also spelled out.
Healing of wounds is as follows: The number of dice that would be healed (channel energy, lay on hands, cure X wounds); the caster level of an effect without dice (heal), or limited amounts via natural rest (1 wound point, or half HD wound points for full bed rest).
There are numerous magical items or spells that don't interact well - for example, a Cloak of Comfort would normally double your healing when you rest. Vigor is already completely healed; does that mean the cloak lets you heal 2 wound points instead of 1? Unclear without a GM decision.
Fast Healing is not explicitly in there. Fast healing via a spell (Infernal Healing) would have a caster level, but Fast Healing (Ex) from a template does not.
The simplest way would be to rule the same as SLA's without a caster level; caster level of an effect is equal to half the HD the creature gains it at. In this case, that would make for a caster level of 1 for template based fast healing. Healing wound points at 1 per round is still pretty good though.

Maiitsoh |

Yeah, it is pretty good with the system we have; especially with DR being a thing (not that I really have any as a human- my AC is all from non-armor sources), and in a couple levels, I'll even nab Regeneration, which will be awesome.

Maiitsoh |

Yeah, I was mainly waiting for Taylor to respond in some way, but I guess I'll just move past that now.

Taylor MacConnel |

Sorry, I missed the GM's question squeezed in between the two story posts. I'm very sorry! I was actually waiting on the GM to respond to me (literally) running into the mercenary(?) party entering the hotel. Taylor wouldn't have had time to answer the disembodied voice in the middle of the foyer.
Again, very sorry for the confusion!
EDIT: I wanted to speak up about odd silence here, but I heard that the GM was busy recently so I didn't want to push, sorry.

Jamisen Tinsson |

Didn't really have internet access for the last couple days, but will post and should be back to regular access again.

Taylor MacConnel |

Would knowing James' family name fall under knowledge:local or knowledge:nobility?

Sebecloki |

Yes -- I guess local here mean's United States. This is what I find so problematic about Knowledge skills -- I understand the concept of not just hand waving player knowledge, but it's really hard to separate period detail from Knowledge checks -- like do you need one to know that you're in the USA, what the name of the state you're in is, that Abraham Lincoln is the President?, etc., and this kind of info (also, overlapping domains in Knowledge checks).
Anyway, yes, that's something you can learn more about from a Knowledge check, lol.

Taylor MacConnel |

...I'm actually kinda tilted right now because of my rolls.

Taylor MacConnel |

Just checking in to see if the game is still on. I'm really liking the premise, and hope we can get past the intro to other interesting things.

Maiitsoh |

^What she said?

Sebecloki |

I've been doing finals for school, but I'd like to see if we can put this back on track.
I think it would be worth discussing expectations -- I think there may be a slight disconnect between players behaving more reactively and my expectation of my role as a DM in this particular game.
My idea for this isn't like a Paizo AP -- it's more of a sandbox like Red Red Redemption 2 where a good portion of the game is spent talking with people and exploring.
The great amount of period detail is supposed to be part of the sandbox and an important component of the game experience.
I have a couple of very basic plot points in mind for each area, but this isn't supposed to be as firmly guided as an AP or published adventure, and more collaborative, such that I'm also waiting on PCs to go talk to people, react to the situation I present etc. There aren't exact preset plot mechanisms for the PCs to wait around to have triggered.
I'm hoping, for instance, that the characters in the hotel will talk with one another, that they'll go exploring, talk to other patrons, and so forth, and that material will arise out of the interplay of your exploration and my reaction.
I think we may be slowing down because right now both the PCs and DM are waiting for the other to react -- that's going to be an ongoing issue if everyone is waiting for plot triggers/set pieces like an Paizo AP.

Sebecloki |

That's also an issue -- I'm expecting more player-to-player interaction. This seems to also be an issue sometimes with PbP that the individual players only interact with the DM/NPCs, and very little if at all with each other -- that's really going to slow this down.
I'm not stating any of this to be condemnatory or chastising, I'm just trying to assess what expectations will make this run smoothly, and what my concept for this game is.
If everyone is really unable to do a more collaborative approach to the plot where the PCs are more proactive in moving things along and generating material for the campaign, I'm going to have to really rethink the entire project, and figure out some AP or other published source to convert or something.

Jamisen Tinsson |

Thank you for the clarifications. That was not my expectation, but I think I can adapt and post a little less reactively and a bit more exploratory instead.

![]() |

Aye, it seemed like you wanted us all at the hotel for some event.

Taylor MacConnel |

Glad to see that the game is still running. Got a new laptop recently and I'm still getting everything set up and transferred from my old one. Writing from a cellphone is a trial, specially for wordy games like these.
