Interesting how Hanzala is a female name in Zakhara, while it is a masculine name originally. I wonder if this is intentional or an instance of something being lost in translation.

Speaking of Diliram and Namared, I want to know: What is our plan for the astrolobe?
It looks like a very powerful artifact that may imprison a lot of evil beings. I wouldn't want us to inadvertedly release Jafaar or any other a world-threatening evil because Diliram wants to get horizontal with one of the inmates.

It might hold an evil genie (say, an efreeti), but we aren't really sure. Of course efreeti out in the world are not exactly uncommon in Al-Qadim.
There is a tiny tiny chance that I might be able to get a divination spell that can tell us more about the current occupants before we go releasing everyone and destroying it.

Re: Birthright
In the late 90's, as the internet was catching on, and Birthright was also, there was an AMAZING online Birthright community.
Play by Post, or more correctly, Play by AIM and Play by Email, games abounded, and it was the perfect medium for such things!

What brought this up? Running something in Cerilia?
Sheikh Ibn Taaib al-Ghurabi |
I would definitely, positively, and emphatically support integrating Birthright into this game if everyone else is on board. I even have a draft (in my character sheet) where I was tinkering with the ruleset to see how it can work in Zakhara. You can find it at the bottom of my character sheet, which I post here for convenience.
Banu Ghurab (Crow-sons) descend from Ghalib al-Hakeem (Victorious the Wise), known as Al-Ghurab (The Crow), an ancient scion of a noble bloodline of seers.
He is known in legends as a wise-man who traveled around Zakhara, dispensing wisdom and advising sheikhs and kings using riddles and stories, banishing demons, breaking curses, and being a semi-mythical figure.
It is said he is the first who taught modern burial rituals, and he was known as a powerful enemy of the undead, a holy man with hands of healing, and a teacher of princes. In the secret lore of Banu Ghurab, Ghalib is but one step below the Loregiver in wisdom. Few of Ghalib’s sons lived up to their father, and the tribe fell into merchandising using their patron’s reputation--the later generations, after hundreds of years, became scattered, divided, and leaderless, usually turning to banditry or unscrupulous traders and slavers. It was thus that, slowly but surely, the strength and wisdom of the blood faded, as did the size of the main bloodline, as other families left and took up other names.
Clan Head: Amr bin Taaib (previously known as Qassim) bin Hamid bin Rashid bin Qassim al-Taa’ir (main clan branch) al-Ghurabi
Tribe size: 1,200 people (700 under leadership, rest at large)
Clan Heads: Aabid bin Hamid (63), Qassim/Taaib bin Hamid (Deceased), Aasim bin Taaib (48), Amr bin Taaib (Current Sheikh, 41), Mukhtar (23) and Aabid bin Amr bin Taaib (Heir Apparent, 31), Rashid bin Luai bin Rashid (48), Jaafar bin Wa’el bin Hussam bin Qassim al-Taa’ir (28), Kilab bin Zaid bin Wa’el bin Hussam bin Zaid al-Aswad al-Ghurabi (34, minor clan branch), Abu’al-Nur bin Amr bin Zaid bin Baseer bin Amr al-Qaaim al-Ghurabi (49, minor clan branch)
Clan Branches: Al-Taa’ir (400, main branch), Al-Aswad (175, minor branch), Al-Qaaim (125 minor branch)
At Large: 500 (200 bandits and thieves, 170 exiled from the clan, 130 legitimate presence in other communities)
Bloodline level 10, Tainted
Bloodline Score 09
Bloodline Abilities: Few abilities distinguish Banu Ghurab in these dark days, who are now so far removed from Wisdom.
Silver Eyes: The bloodmark of Banu Ghurab’s bloodline is a silvery sheen in the eyes that reflects flicks of silver. Those who see such mark of divine favor are sure to respect it (+1-4 reaction bonus)
Silver Tongue: Ghalib was known as a wise man with a silver tongue. Those who have his blood run in their veins have a similar power of persuasion.
Domain: Al-Wadi al Aswad (Black Valley)
Holdings: Empty (I don't really know how they work to be honest).

I would love to play in a Birthright game, but I don't really want to try to mix it into this game, sorry. Sounds like more work than I can put in right now.

Back in the day, one of the members of my TTRPG group picked up the Birthright Boxed Set - we dabbled a little in it, I think even played a session or three but that was unfortunately it, so I don't have that much knowledge/experience on the subject.
Sheikh Ibn Taaib al-Ghurabi |
I do agree with Zairiah that there could be difficulties adapting a setting other than Cerilia into a Birthright campaign.
I mean, Cerilia at least has an extensive map and more details than the Zakhara map has going. It would be difficult deciding what are holdings and naming them.
But if there is some kind of Birthright spin-off of the game, I would love to play it.

I'd offer to run it, but it has been many years since I've broken out my boxed set and I would have to first locate it and second, review the rules.

I am going to be out of town from tomorrow until November 16 (I'm going to Walt Disney World). Please bot me as necessary. If time permits (ha!), I will try to check in and make a post.
Sheikh Ibn Taaib al-Ghurabi |
Fadilah, is your character morally opposed to using the astrolabe?
It could help a lot to cancel one enemy from the fight, especially while your gen is away getting you the spell.
Sheikh Ibn Taaib al-Ghurabi |
So we attack simultaneously, but did Hanzala hit me with the burning hands before I spent my lay on hands or after?
It's sort of a life or death question (literally).

Looks like 2e Great Scimitar stats here:
https://people.wku.edu/charles.plemons/ad&d/misc/arms.html
(listed under Sword, Great Scimitar)
Except ours are 2d6+1 amd made from Qudran Steel rather than the damage listed there.
Just a note because the stats are different from modern entries for the same weapon.

How about this one?

Or did you want a close up view of a more narrow area?
Added a slide 2 of just the haunted lands (you can still see Huzuz way down on the bottom, a little to the left of center)

Huh.

maybe that edit part at the end was screwing it up.

Parrying is a no-move action that is
in effect for the entire combat round. If a character par-
ries, he cannot move, attack, or cast spells.
Parrying reduces a nonwarrior character’s Armor
Class by one-half his level. A 6th-level wizard with an
AC of 5 who parries reduces his AC to 2. Warriors who
choose to parry reduce their AC by one-half their level,
plus one. A 6th-level fighter gets an AC bonus of 4 by
parrying. For characters that have multiple attacks you can use one of your attacks as a parry action to make it more difficult to hit.
Sheikh Ibn Taaib al-Ghurabi |
There is a nice hex map (click here) for Zakhara as well as the entire setting as well.
GMEDWIN |
Hi, I put up another map for the area in Zakhara where you are.
Zakharamap
I liked the other map better and I think this cartographer's rendition of the mountains are a smidge off but it will work well enough.

So here are the quests we will wrap up in Muluk
Report back to Hanoushin (Time limited -- Muluk; Completes the Eleven Baneful Gates Quest)
Take Qasim (Glass Man) back to Muluk
Deal with the undead beneath the tombs where Yodfah tried to kill us (Muluk)
Take Banu Hanif’s message to the Caliph (Muluk)
Also, I will be adding AI generated art into the campaign log. I already added an illustration of Ibn Taaib.

I have a convention I am assisting in running in two weeks, so my responses will be slow or perhaps non-existent until March 4. Please forgive delays.
Zairiah |
We're moving the online community that I run over to a whole new site, so things are going to be really crazy for me for a couple of weeks while we get messaging out and field questions from everyone about how to do things.
I will definitely try to check in, but please bot me doing something creative and intelligent if I am holding things up. :)

Incidentally, Frackit, remove paralysis is a 3rd-level spell in the Protection sphere, to which you have major access. Once you have a chance to prepare spells again you should be capable of casting it.
