My House Rules for Hero Points:

Hero Point Mechanics:

1) One permanent Hero Point may be used to avoid a final death scenario allowing a narrow cinematic escape,

2) One temporary Hero Point may be used if you are between -1 and -9 hit points to stabilize yourself to prevent further blood loss,

3) Temporary Hero Points may be expended to power Feats. These grant a lasting bonus for a one scene or one round duration depending on the feat description,

4) One temporary Hero Point grants a character a chance to supplement their d20 roll by 1d6 and add the result (whatever it was - no re-roll) to the d20 result,

Progression system:
Level 1-10 1d6,
Level 11-20 2d6,
Level 21-?? 3d6. and

5) No more than one Hero Point may be expended per round.

Concentrating for a moment, Gauntlet creates a jet-black earth-breaker in his hands.

"Kana, if things start to go badly, give us a signal too and we will charge out early...but only if things cannot be salvaged. We have to give the strike group enough time to get into position. Go then! And may the gods and the Dragon Above be with us all."

He then pulls out two potions and hands one to EE.

"Provides faster ground movement for a short time. Take it when its time, then charge. It will only last for a minute or so, but that should be enough for us. Pick you target carefully EE. That pig-sticker of yours won't do much to skeletons I fear."

Yeah so, uhm, one last question, uhm, how about some protection for me? And Viorr of course? I mean, what should we do when they start shooting at us?
She eyes Viorr up and down, clearly trying to figure out how good of a cover against arrows and bolts he would be.

Then she waves her own doubts aside.
Ah well, let's just get done with it. Worst that can happen is probably getting stuck with some arrows and then some years of slavery - again.

Frank can only move up to 40' per round, as he's not only fatigued, but he will be coiling long heavy lengths of rope around himself in order to spread out the rope pulling time.

Also, if it's a move or standard action to pull out 10' of rope, then we'll just stretch the rope between Pinkeye and Frank, Pinkeye just going 50' per round to Frank's 40'. that'd be at least 10' of rope per 50' of tunnel when we arrive at the room xD

Frank dismisses B, drops the sack of food, and casts Message so that he can whisper to Kana, Viorr, Gauntlet, and Pinkeye for the next 40 minutes from up to 140' away.

As the chimney strike team hurries all the way back through the complex towards the overly hot room, Frank hands a potion of Resist Fire to PinkEye.
"Here, take this. Wouldn't want you to get overheated right before you need to climb up that rope. Should last until the end of the fighting."

"This will turn you into mist when you drink it, but only for a short time. You should be immune to arrows for the duration. Viorr isn't afraid of some arrows I think, especially if he engages your target quickly in melee. Most archers dislike accidentally shooting their bosses."

Oddly, Gauntlet only shrugs at Dev's comments and keeps looking up the stairs and outside the cave at whatever he can see. He wishes for better tactical advantages that probably won't present themselves.

"I only suggest what I think is best under the circumstances. Also, I can only hope I'm not getting us into more trouble than its worth. But the Emerald Claw cannot be trusted in my opinion. So I doubt giving them what they want would help us at all in the short or long term."

yeah. Grig can sneak ahead to untie people. The main thing is not getting caught when we exit the chimney. Also, if the chimney is far enough away, not getting caught when we move to within a hundred feat or so of the entrance.
At least +1 DC per 10' means we effectively have +10 to stealth...

If the chimney had been noticed earlier when we opened it, then I would be worried. My guess it is out of direct line of sight of their group, and hot air is pretty invisible as far as I know. But be prepared for anything when you get up there. Just in case.

The group finalizes their battle plan.

Pink-Eye and Frank race through the complex as Kana and Viorr delay exiting the cave.

Tavack calls down, "Time is running out".

Kana and Viorr exit the cave and the archers, there are many, level their bows at both of you.

Kana, give me a speech and a Bluff check to represent stalling time, its not quick to go through the complex, open it, climb out, and then sneak around the hill! This would be the time to use a Hero Point.

After reaching the no-longer-quite-so-overheated room, Frank summons a small air elemental and cuts the rope from his sleeve as Pinkeye opens the chimney.

Frank barks orders at the air elemental in auran, which then quickly sets about flying up the chimney with one end of the rope.

Another good day to be paranoid, but it wasn't enough. As usual.
Frank thinks to himself as he watches Pinkeye climb the rope up the chimney. Tying himself to the tangling end, he waits to be pulled up by Pinkeye and his air elemental.

After finally reaching the top, Frank replaces the air elemental with a grig.
He gives it orders to untie the prisoners on the other side of the hill and then to start harassing their captors with bursts of bright light and arrows.
Grig whispers "The grig is on its way. Hopefully they've got something burning that will soon explode into a blinding flash. Can you guys think of a good excuse to light a torch? If no fires explode into fireworks, tiny arrows raining down is the signal to attack."

Grig stealth + invisibility: 1d20 + 16 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 16 + 20 = 43

it has a 40' fly speed and 3x CL 9 Pyrotechnics (DC 14, can be used for "fireworks" if there's a source of fire, hehehe), if that helps ^^

At the cave exit Kana stops for a moment, breathing in and out deeply, adjusting her hair and dress, making sure everything she has to offer speaks for itself.
Then she steps out, dragging Viorr along, head high and chest pushed out.

Don't really care what you do with them afterwards, just for scientific reasons.

And you believe we have the third schema. That raises a lot of questions. Like why do you believe that or how would you know that? An most importantly, since i never knowingly saw one, what exactly is a schema?

Pink eye's plan is to run into the left flank of the enemy cast obscuring mist first turn and then start negative channel bursting to kill as many as possible so he waits for the signal

Tavack begins to banter back and forth with Kana though he does scowl at Viorr's comment. Despite Kana's best efforts, she cannot get Tavack to divulge anything about the other schema or why the Emerald Claw seeks them. It does not matter, she is buying time. The warriors begin to bring down their bows for intermittent rest though no more than half at a time do so.

Kana hears Frank's message and soon enough she sees mist become to filter out from the side of the hill. The members of the Claw pay it no heed, after all in this strange place, odd occurrences are always taking place.

Frank and Pink-Eye believe that the Grig is closing in on its objective but as it is invisible it is hard to tell.

As Pink-Eye edges around his own mist, he is able to spot Aerin and Sharon behind the wagon. They are surrounded by three guards. The line of horses is behind them, all are tethered to the ground with stakes. It is a 200' run to get to them from around the hill. If the horses don't spot you, the guards might but if you come around from behind the horses there is some cover there. No fires to be had for utilization.

Pink-Eye, give me a stealth check if you want to get closer and try and release a negative channel, note that the range is 30' of a channel. No one BUT Pink-Eye and Frank can attempt to get a surprise round here unless EE and Gauntlet want to head out of the cave invisibly right now.

Seeing things going badly already, Gauntlet drinks his potion of speedy movement, and activates his Vanish temporary invisibility. As soon as things start moving, Gauntlet will charge the Furthest skeleton from the entrance with his Earthbreaker!

+2 Mindblade (Earthbreaker): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 1) + 5 = 11
Add +2 to hit if I can actually charge, and if we stealth-surprise an enemy it does not gain any dex bonus, right? Or something like that? Add another +2 to Hit and Damage if Kana's bonuses apply.

Unfortunately, you would likely have been spotted because the rise of the hill was just not close enough to where the Emerald Claw sits in waiting, so tactically it would not have worked.

Pink-Eye moves behind one of the creatures here actually large enough to hide him. He sees one of the soldiers to the right flank of the wagon try and get a bead on him but behind the horses, he knows that one will have to come to him if he wants a fight!

Aerin shifts form into a fearsome cat!

Sharon meanwhile tries to grab one of the soldiers weapons. CMB 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 But he is able to retain his grasp on the flail.
