My House Rules for Hero Points:

Hero Point Mechanics:

1) One permanent Hero Point may be used to avoid a final death scenario allowing a narrow cinematic escape,

2) One temporary Hero Point may be used if you are between -1 and -9 hit points to stabilize yourself to prevent further blood loss,

3) Temporary Hero Points may be expended to power Feats. These grant a lasting bonus for a one scene or one round duration depending on the feat description,

4) One temporary Hero Point grants a character a chance to supplement their d20 roll by 1d6 and add the result (whatever it was - no re-roll) to the d20 result,

Progression system:
Level 1-10 1d6,
Level 11-20 2d6,
Level 21-?? 3d6. and

5) No more than one Hero Point may be expended per round.

A fire elemental has a physical manifestation so its Slam damage is regular bashing NOT fire damage. Correct, once you catch on fire you do not take Burn Damage more than once per round. You get a Reflex save each round as well to "douse" it. Pink-Eye chose to douse the fire with summoning water so he was not on fire for a full round, thus his items did not need to make saving throws. Correct, they are immune to flanking and precision damage.

B's claws simply cannot injure the mighty elementals and she pops out into the ether before she can be further damaged by the foe.

Kana's bow continues to wittle down the elemental Viorr faces off against, alone now.

Gauntlet metal body resists the flames which may have ravaged his inner parts his counterstrike though is likewise resisted by this powerful adversary. EE's strike though does seem to do some damage to the shared foe.

Zabeth's arrow lands but is burned up by the aura of the creature before it can deal any real damage.

Pink-Eye's hammer swings wild and takes out a chunk of the ceiling but his arrow does seem to effect the elemental a bit.

These foes must be worn down it seems!

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 4d8 ⇒ (1, 8, 7, 3) = 19

But Meridian still cannot get a bead on the thing due to its fiery flickering nature.

Seeing Viorr injured, Dev attempts to stop the elemental threatening the elf (red).

Wild Surge.
Surge: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Enervation on a 1: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Dev shakes as the Psionic Energy roils his body, the effect leaps from his forehead into the body of the elemental! Dev screams out again as he touches his mind, brimming with destructive energies, to the Elemental's. This time he falls to one knee, his body steaming due to the Psionic Outburst, like an overheated magical engine created by House Cannith!

Dev spend 4 pp, Wild Surge gives 4 more, so Recall Agnoy is augmented to ML8 for 7d6, Will Save DC 18 for half. I also lose an additional 4 pp from the enervation, which unfortunately brings him to ZERO PP, but it triggers Vent Agony again once more!

EE notices a panel that slides along the southern wall, opening that may reveal the controls for the ceiling. First things first, with his tools the Warforged is able to open the chest and access the contents therein.

Success!

The translucent chest contains two copies of the diamond-shaped schema the original and what appears to be an exact copy,
2 potions of resist energy (10 points fire damage),
2 potions of cure moderate wounds,
1 scroll of resist energy,
and something else... a pattern on a large disk formed of adamantine and covered with mithral-laced runes and symbols. It contains sockets for four schemas, like the ones found beneath Sharn and in the chest. It is 3 inches thick, 2 feet across, and weighs 10 pounds.

The group has found what it came here for.

Do you attempt to open the ceiling or head back through the complex? The group did state that it would bring the Dire Wolves out with them.

EE can find and follow tracks with Perception due to Perceptive Tracking, an Investigator talent.

<Can do that.>

The smallest warforged of the two starts looking for signs of their disappeared comrades.

Kana's face becomes quite red, although under the makeup you can't really see that. Only hints of it. She adresses Gauntlet some more.

Yeah giving one copy to Pink-eye to carry would be better, giving it to me would be best though. I'm most certainly not volunteering to haul that heavy thing for fun. Just in case we get ambushed, who would suspect me carrying one? You Warforged are the most obvious to carry them. On top of that, you're only obliged to return one of them, nobody needs to know about the other one. You Warforged really need to learn a lot! You stick to your old soldier-master ways, but you free now. Believe me, it's best we keep the second one hidden and secret, at least for now. You're so intelligent and your IQ must be really high - i guess - but when it comes to EQ you're clearly lacking and have a long way to go, whereas i am a master there. And i do have an intuition there, a really strong one. As well as some more insights i can't share at the moment. Therefore you should really follow my suggestions. Is this convincing enough for you?

And yes, i found it weird for them to wait outside as well. 2 persons can't stop an ambush or something.

Gauntlet shrugs, and hands the 'copy' of the schema to Pink-Eye without a second delay.

"I cannot really say who is intelligent Kana. As you say I'm only just a warforged and not considered real to most people. We 'forged are often just thought of as a 'horrendous thing' at worst, or an 'useful annoyance' at best. However, I have also learned that I can earn some people's trust by honoring my agreements, not just to the letter of the word written or vow made, but to the essence of it. Friendship, loyalty, and honor are just words to most people. Tossed out to help make deals or cement agreements. To me they are MY food and water. Air. Sustenance. I am sorry if that upsets you, but I will take no chances with these artifacts anymore after what we have been through to get them. If and when we reach safety, we can...as a group...discuss the second schema and what to do with it. Until then, Pink-Eye will carry the other."

Pink eye takes the heavy thing easily and stuffs it in his pack and says Gauntlet is my battle companion and more so my friend. His word is my word. His bond is mine. His hands have held my life and mine his. That is all there is which matters and Pink Eye puts a hand on Gauntlets shoulder one friend to another with a nod.

Gauntlet nods, his face a stone mask and showing no real problem with the sudden contact, but his body's tenseness with it obviously shows trust was built with Pink-Eye to allow such contact.

"Agreed. That is all there is that matters. Let's go. We have much to do."

He looks back to Kana only for a moment, but says nothing else about it as they move on.

Before anyone heads up the stairs...

Rorsa sniffs the air, "The stench of death is above us".

She and her pack allow the group to head forward first.

The Mournland is bathed by the darkness of a cloud-covered night. All is still and quiet as it was when you exited before but the horses snort. Gauntlet quickly sees why as an arrow lands at his feet.

Standing on and among the wagons are members of the Emerald Claw!

You recognize some from the encampment, others are from the group that must have arrived while the lot of you were escaping into the Mournlands. There are two dozen in all. The one that addresses the group Gauntlet does not recognize, EE does though, this is Tavack, the client that paid Mickey P. to recover an amulet back in Sharn!

Tavack shakes his head, "I remember you. A Warforged in the employ of Mickey P.

Good, perhaps we can do some business instead of resorting to bloodshed.

That first shot was a warning. We know you are tired. We know you are outnumbered. You also know these things are true. You also know that we have captured two of your friends. Not to mention the friends we captured and spirited away back at the Rose Quarry.

We outnumber you at least two to one and all of my men have bows ready to fire. Not to mention we have a few undead who I will send forward first.

It is futile to fight us Give me the third schema, and I will let you live. Oppose us, and I will take it from your corpses, and then raise your bodies to serve me.

In return, I will free all of your friends and will leave the wagons and the supplies here so you can make your way back out".

Hesitating only a moment, Gauntlet turns back to look at this friends following then forward again.

"Give us a moment to discuss it? Thanks."

He then turns and uses his weight and bulk to push everyone back down into the cavern and out of sight and sound of the Emerald Claw.

"If he thought he could defeat us, he would already be attacking. We may be hurt, but we are not defeated. His smug confidence will be his undoing. Can anyone magically climb or fly? If we send someone back down into furnace room, and out the exhaust, they could take these idiots from behind and give us the distraction we need to rush these enemies. I would prefer not give these men anything while I still function."

He then turns to the wolves and their leader.

"I cannot order you to fight, and these people are not here for you. They will probably ignore your kind once any combat is over, or you can simply wait them out until they leave. Or if you just want to run away now and scatter, you should be fine too. I doubt they will waste ammo on you if you just run. However, If you should stay and aid us...I can offer you nothing in return other than my eternal friendship and gratitude."

"Certainly. But. Come out spells blazing and your friends die first", responds Tavack.

Rorsa sniffs and takes a seat, "You have freed us. We will aid you and in return there shall be no debts between us. Agreed?"

"Sounds good to me. I'll send up a nice invisible pet- er, sorry B." Broulnindre vanishes with a wave of Frank's hand.

"Anyway, I know a thing that can turn invisible and untie our friends. If anyone has fire I can tell it to blast the fire into a blinding flash to signal us when it's a good time to charge in. Erm, any volunteers to delay the negotiations a bit while holding up a torch until they get a face full of blinding light?"

I am strong enough to climb out easily enough and would most enjoy thrashing this group from behind Pink eye needs some healing first so he casts cure light wounds twice on himself.

I can use more healing. When I get to he back of them I will conceal myself with mist and channel negative energy until they die or I run out. Don't come to the back and get people away from the mist. Pink eye whispers drinking another dose of the healing wine

Let me patch you up a bit Pink-Eye.
Kana takes out a wand and begins to heal Pink-Eyes wounds with it.
Anybody else needs some?
She heals herself as well.

I got a wand of CLW, everyone feel free to use it and roll for yourselves.

CLW on Kana: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

I also got this poisoned arrows, they won't help with undead, but perhaps they can put some of the humans to sleep. Unfortunately i don't have a spell to fly. Pink-Eye could you climb up and throw down a long rope to let others climb up? Maybe we can all escape and attack their back?

don't forget it's half magical healing too T_T
(except that goodberry wine stuff...)

"A long rope?" Frank blinks a couple of times.
Then his smiles like the cat that ate the canary.

"Heh. I have all the rope we need."

Nodding, Gauntlet hands all the magical keys to Frank.

"Take Pink-Eye, then head back to the Furnace Room as fast as possible. Have your creature fly up and tie the rope for Pink-Eye to climb up. Then tie the rope to yourself and let Pink-eye draw you up. As soon as possible, set free our friends then the three of you with our friends help hit the enemy from behind hard and loud. Pink-Eye, when you attack make sure you get the enemies' attention and we will hit them from our side as fast as we can as well."

He turns to Kana.

"You are the best negotiator from my opinion, so take Viorr as a personal 'guard' and get the enemy's attention. They should underestimate the both of you. Keep them talking until we get a signal from Pink-Eye's group somehow. Meridian can make EE invisible, and I can do it myself for a short time as well. When the commotions starts we charge the enemy and hit them hard. I will target the skeletons and focus on them if I can reach them quickly enough. Anybody else in our group with the power to help, hit the enemy as best you can as hard as you can before a full melee ensues. Summoning, area of effect, or control spells first, then use individual target spells."

He then turns and kneels next to the wolves' leader.

"Rorsa, if you are truly willing, I need your group and their speed. Run out and around, flank the enemy archers or any obvious spell-casters as soon as you can. Hit and run, unless you can knock them down quickly and keep them from getting back up: I understand wolves are good at that. If your group begins to take too much damage, run off. Maybe some of them will be stupid enough to follow after you. Dev, since you are mostly spent on energy, stay as close to the wolves that you can and support them. If they knock someone down, you help make sure he stays down if you can."

He looks around quickly.

"The first few seconds will be crucial here once the above-ground group attacks, and we cannot guarantee perfect coordination. We will all just have to adapt to the situation as it continues and do our best. Any questions?"
