I was also wondering if we should sail out of Anfa (Casablanca) to Azemmour or El Jadida. There we present ourselves as the entourage. Then sail to Safi and purchase the animals to 'head inland' to Marrakesh to head to parts beyond (or so the story goes)
That way there is less chance when were in Marrakesh to tie us to anyone who saw us in Anfa.
I posted this a while back.
I'm ok with keeping or selling the boat.
Pro's to selling the boat: we don't have to hire a crew. We have the money to spend in Anfa, the largest city here abouts (I think). Cons to selling the boat. The people around here know who the boat belongs to.
So Pro's to keeping the boat. We have a boat, we don't have to rely on finding transportation. Cons: we have to hire or purchase a crew. If we purchase 'slaves' who know how to sail, we could offer them thier freedom to be part of our team. IE the people who stay with the boat...
Either way, I like the idea of sailing to Safi, then taking a caravan to Marrakesh instead of heading to Marrakesh straight from here.

That sounds pretty good! I am all up for it! Plus, we'll be freeing slaves!

Wulfgar is ready at third level, he took his second level in Bloodrager, third level feat is Power Attack.
@ MJ66 what do you think of the Piecemeal armor rules? I put it in Wulfgar’s background that he wears whatever armor is available. Then said that he wore ‘Janissary’ armor; inferring that he was wearing armor from dead enemies. I like the idea of him wearing the kings armor, but I would like to eventually take advantage of his archetype and wearing heavy armor. The piecemeal armor rules would permit that. If you approved, he would purchase scale armor arm pieces and leg pieces, effectively making the ‘breastplate’ heavy armor…
I'm still not sure what he will purchase, it will depend on whether we keep the boat and now much money we actually come up with.

It was my birthday April 25th, and I’m feeling generous... I will say that the party finds ill-gotten booty in the cabins of the captain and first mate, enough that each PC can buy upgrades to equipment not to exceed 3,000 gp in total value (that is, each character should have no more than 3,000 gp worth of gear after buying upgrades, except Altin, who has the headband that pushes him over the standard wealth for a 3rd level character... everyone else gets to go shopping!)

Nice! Giving out presents for your birthday! How very hobbit-like of you :)
Happy birthday for earlier in the week, GM :)

Yes! Thanks! I am very hobbit-like... I enjoy elevensies and second breakfast, and my fondness for the halfling’s leaf should be apparent in my creativity lol...

Yes, Happy birthday, should we ask how old? As for 'apparent fondness' I'm not quite sure how to respond :-)
Thank you for letting me use the piecemeal armor rules, I will keep It simple and not abuse them.
In game I asked:
Crewman of the Alanqilis wrote:Vanna stabs the north most crewman deeply! He screams in agony...He shrieks and falls to the floor, twitching in an expanding pool of blood!did he have any possessions?
I was looking for a scimitar just to remember the captain by. Again, Wulfgar will scavage weapons for practicality as well as momentos or memories of their adventure.
@ Altin, I'm not planning on purchasing Wulfgar much, is here anything you specifically want? I will split his 3,000 gp with you.
Wulfgar Ivarsson
You don’t get 3,000 gp; your total value of gear should come out to 3,000 gp, just to be clear.
Ahhh, I was assuming it was 3,000 gp. increase since being in Africa or about 1,650 GP for Wulfgar to spend.
So 175 gp beginning gear, 500 gp. gear from Portugal's king, 1.350 gp. breastplate. So after misc. sundries, Wulfgar has around 1,100 gp. to spend.
Still, he won't need all of it, Altin do you need anything?
MJ66, any chance that dead sailor had a scimitar Wulfgar could pick up?
Altin Karela
No, nothing really required here. If you're really stuck on what to buy, consumables like potions of CLW are always handy, and shareable ;)

How old will our Marid be in 28 years? Wulfgar will be 54, so how do Aasimar age in this world again?
Well MJ66, you may have worked another sub plot in :-)

The more subplots the cooler the tale...

So I started Wikipedia-ing all this stuff and looking at the beginning of the thread. You know what I realized? We never actually got the name of the sultan in Marrakesh... Duh...
Possible line later in game:
"Um, Hi, can you tell us who's in charge? We've come to kill him, but were not sure who it is."

It depends which port you want to sail to. El Jadida is ~50 miles down the coast from Anfa... Safi is ~80 more miles... Essaouira ~50 miles past Safi... So if you wanted to sail down to Essaouira, that's ~180 nautical miles of sailing, at a speed of 4 to 8 knots...
At an average rate of 6 knots, the Alanqilis can sail 144 knots per 24-hour day. She could sail to Essaouira in about a day-and-a-half.

Ok, I posted this a while back, Let's sail to Azemmour, set up our story there, possibly hire new sailors there, or sell the boat. Then sail to Safi. Separating us from stories in Anfu.
Volreg Sundek
The walking dead is quite unnatural...... Volreg might have an issue just based on that, haha.
Michael Johnson 66
so, in pathfinder undead are automatically evil, is that the case in this world?
Correct. These skeletal sailors are evil by virtue of the necromancy animating them, and in all likelihood, their master the Necromancer Maldezar is also evil. He happens to be a businessman as well lol...
Wulfgar Ivarsson
I don't like the idea of sailing with undead, but no other option presented itself and we lost a day instantly. It feels like this is a big deal, so if that's the case I'm OK with it. If this is just a lark I would like other options.
Any recommendations?
Michael Johnson 66
** spoiler omitted **
Its by no means integral or important to the "storyline" that you accept these undead minions... We can hand wave the time and effort it would take to hire crew to sail the ship to Azemmour and then Safi and get on with it if you don't want to bite on this subplot.
Michael Johnson 66
Would it be possible to purchase crew at the slave market?
Yes. Which reminds me that I forgot to answer an earlier question (sorry) about when the next shipment of slaves was due to arrive...
That could be the answer to your problem. Buy (free) some slaves to sail the ship at the Anfa Bazaar...
Volreg Sundek
I have a bit of gold to help throw towards the slaves! I can comfortably cover a fifth of the total cost of the 1000 gold needed.
Altin Karela
Okay, so 100 gp per sailor slave. I have about 270 gp, and 600 sp... If we throw in a little over 80 gp each, we can get five. I took Profession (sailing), as I've spent enough time on ships now. If anyone has no gold left, I'm happy to chip in more. Altin's all about the winning, not so much the having :)
Ninja'd by Volreg... Do we need 10? I mean, if we did then we could turn the ship over to them, I guess... Maybe they would sail us around whenever we liked after that.
Mwikali
They could become employees for us and use the ship to travel the coast of Africa and the Mediterranean.
Volreg Sundek
I like the profit sharing idea. Then they may also expand into other enterprises!
Wulfgar Ivarsson
that's why I said 'indentured servants' they basically would be purchasing their freedom from us by working for us, Of course we would share the profits with them also. But it sounds like were good with 10. I will go ahead and post something.
Of course if we spend all our money on crew, we will have to raise more money for the camels...
Wulfgar Ivarsson
I was ninja'd in game by MJ66 so I deleted my post,
@ MJ66, I was going to roll for 'gather information' to see if there were any other 'slaver' or 'Pirate' ships in the area, for us to attack, thus regrouping our money. I figure if we were down two days, that Wulfgar could have been getting information.
Also if we divide the 1,000 gp. we each just spend 167 gp. for the slaves, do we take that from our individual funds from the gnoll raid, or did that come out of the 'captain and first mate' fund that was on the ship?
