Sorry for the railroad, guys...
a great trope and twist I couldn't resist lol..
Don't worry, you guys are more than capable of surviving and escaping this trap, but it's time to have a bit of fun in the Arena of Death for awhile first lol

My little brother invented the Arena of Death, a classic railroad... No matter how tough our PCs were, a band of orcs on horses with nets and blowguns with sleep poison darts would gallop out of nowhere and drag us off to the Arena of Death... Now you guys get to share the fun lol
So, I'm off on Sundays and Mondays, which means I sleep at night here in 'EST land' instead of sitting on line waiting for posts. When I opened my queue I read the discussions first, then the games... so I've not been in the game thread, but somehow believe our negotiations failed :-)
There was a mod. back in the day, that the first thing that happened (No matter what) was that the entire party was captured and sold into slavery wearing nothing but their skivvies. The good news was 'small clothes' could be unwound and used as a sling...
So just glad that it sounds like we still have our gear for the arena, er I hope.
Ok, read the posts, I'm having trouble believing Wulfgar would have surrendered, to be taken into slavery without a fight. So I need to figure this out a little.
Since the Railroad took us past 'die a glorious death outside the city' station, and went straight to 'locked up with our gear' town. I will think of something.

Load P is working on a plan guys have no fear, he just needs to collect intel before enacting it.

Lol... The classic responses to the classic railroad trope... You guys are good sports lol... With Lord P at large, and Kiku able to fly through the bars of the portcullis barring Mwikali’s cell, it’s only a matter of biding your time and waiting for the right moment to break out... But first you get a little workout (and XP) in the Arena of Death lol
headed back to bed, I will put together a post, in about eight hours. If MJ66 says it's ok to try and attack the slaver through the bars, I will so something like that.

I assumed they were walls and a door with bars, that he would stand beside the door out of sight. Then stab when the captain pressed his face to the bars.
But a 'cell' is better, he could throw javelins, right?

Yes, with a -4 cover penalty
Michael Johnson 66 wrote: Unfortunately, careful persistence is insufficient to trigger the winch that raises the portcullis sealing Altin’s cell... The DC to raise the portcullis with a Disable Device (pick locks) check is 26... Trying to picture it in my head, each cell has a separate portcullis, and the cells are set 40 ft apart. Are we in a hall? Or are we in the rooms on the map that you showed us the three images of?
I keep trying to not ask too many questions, but... oh well...
so the portcullis, can we use a str, check to lift it? Also, did they take the rest of our gear? Wulfgar has a crowbar in his pack. Might be able to raise that gate up...

Dammit, you’re supposed to remain seated until the GM train comes to a full stop, Altin! Lol...Just kidding, good job! Altin can break the others free as well... GM loading lol...

SO. MUCH. AWESOME!!
Ok, in game: Wulfgar Ivarsson wrote: 'How good the food is?' Rolling his eyes, he calls back to Altin, "Stop being cheeky, how long would it take you to pick a lock and how many others can you see. If we freed everyone it would make quite a distraction." I guess I need to ask better question. I was sort of looking for information so we could build a plan, but I like escaping just as much, the question now is how do we want to do it?
@ MJ66, was the locks just the cranks on the portcullis? I'm wondering how easy it would be to free 'all of the prisoners'
@ the team, Do we want to turn all the prisoners loose? Is our goal to escape into the city or go back into the palace to kill the Emir?
Once we learn how easy or difficult it is to free the other prisoners, I will ask more in game.
M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6
The locks are just the portcullis cranks. The gladiator cells (10-ft-square) surround the Arena, with back of cell inward towards arena, portcullis facing out onto a corridor that runs a circuit around the cells and arena, with more cells on the outside of the corridor in concentric rings.
Spiral stairs at cardinal direction points ascend to the Royal Palace and descend to deeper levels, where the cells of monsters and the chambers of their wranglers lay.
ok folks, MJ66 has practically given us an army, what do we want to do? Wufgar asked Volreg in game, we can discus it in character or out, but we need to make some decisions quick.
@ Lord P. Do you think there is enough enemies against the Emir that they would hide all of us?
@ Giovanna or Altin can talk the other gladiators into joining us?
Do we want to attack the palace? do we want to flee? Do we want to leave these wonder NPC's to thier own fate or take them with us?
Nice NPC's by the way MJ66, I just saw the elf

I am all for having a small army. Ones we can have join our cuase and our ship!
so do you want to go hide in the city or attack the palace?

I think hide in the city. As much as Altin would love to kill Barak, and the emir seems to be an evil son of a b&~@!, it's a daunting prospect to take on an entrenched ruler in his heavily guarded fortress. Even if we do, it would be good to prepare, get the lowdown, gather extra supplies etc.

I have to go to work, I'll be back on in a couple of hours, go ahead and start inviting them with us, and trying to get out to the city. I will post in game later.

Ok cool, this crew of NPCs seems keen to take on the emir, so maybe we flee into the city, then maybe split into two strike forces (us in one, NPCs in another?) and have a crack at the emir.
