Wrath of the Righteous Recruiting

I’m opening recruitment for a PbP Wrath of the Righteous campaign.
I’m a new to PbP, but not to tabletop. I have started one Kingmaker PbP; we’re a week in and I’m confident I can handle running two at once. I’m loving how much more roleplay comes out in this format.

Campaign Details:

  • Posting requirements: One post a day, minimum; I hope that we occasionally get more frequent exchanges, but understand that that’s not sustainable over long stretches/on average.

  • I’d like to play this fairly straight to theme -- you should be virtuous/heroic characters. No evil.

  • Character Creation rules, see below. Simple version: 20point buy, Paizo only.

  • I’m toying with ways to slow down the middle chapters, to make more space for side quests and possibly playing with kingdom building in the Worldwound. Let me know if you have strong feelings on the latter.

  • I don’t care if you’ve played all/part of Wrath before; I don’t care if you’ve GM’d it before; keep your player knowledge separate from the character knowledge. When in doubt, please ask me (spoiler in the discussion thread or PM). You don’t need to pre-clear with me during submission.

  • Expect most combats to be map-less; I do have a roll20 membership we can use when things might be more tactically interesting. Open to other options as well.

Submission Requirements:

  • I don’t like long recruitment periods. I will likely accept 1-2 characters rather quickly (within the first 48 hours). I’ll accept the rest of the party over the next 48 hours, with consultation with the other accepted players.

  • I don’t want to waste your time -- I don’t require a full character sheet for submission.

  • Please respond with race/class/campaign trait/mythic path (see below) and backstory. The first part (race/class/trait/path) is to help other submitters in their planning, the second part is to help me decide.

  • Please indicate if the alias on the submission is the actual character w/ character sheet or you still need to make the character sheet. If its a crunch-less submission, and I accept you, you’ll have 24 hours to generate the crunch before I offer your spot to someone else. I’m fine if your submission has crunch that’s designed for some other GM’s rules, at submission time; just get it fixed within 24 hours of acceptance.

  • I’m happy to see RP in the recruitment thread -- nothing that happens during the recruitment thread will be considered canon and will likely need to be retcon’d. Its a plus if you build stories with the other applicants; its a minus if you monopolize/dominate the thread.

Character Creation Rules:

  • 20 Point Buy

  • Paizo classes only (though I advise against Ninja, Samurai, or Gunslinger), no advanced-classes playtest content, archetypes are fine.

  • Core Races + Aasamir/Tieflings/Ifrit/Oread/Sylphs/Undines, alternate racial powers fine. I roll for you if its a random power table. (I’ll roll 2-3 times and you get to choose which). I’ll admit that Core + Aasamir will likely have an easier time being picked, unless you have a better than average story & posting history.

  • Two traits: One must be a campaign trait. I’m open to discussion about decoupling the campaign trait from a particular mythic path. Open to drawback + third trait, but only when it really makes sense for your character and doesn’t feel min-max-y to me.

  • Starting money: You can either take class average, or I can roll. If I roll you’re guaranteed at least 25%.

  • Backstory: You must have a backstory, for why you are in Kenabres. Even though I feel Wrath is more railroady than some APs, I’m hoping to still break out of that and have some side quests. Generally speaking though it will take longer to work in, so please be patient with me as I fit in some of your character’s more personal details. When I open the RP thread, it will be ~1 week (game time, not real time) before the actual start. You’ll have time to explore/get settled in Kenabres. The party may or may not actually assemble during this time. I’m ok if characters are doing their own thing until the official launch, also ok if people just want to do the canonical tavern meet and greet and then skip the week of game time and start -- we’ll discuss in the discussion thread post acceptance.

It blows my mind how fast people generate characters for these things, so I just wanted to throw a quick post up. I've been very interested in running a bladebound magus (not for power reasons, but because I'm really interested in RPing the sword as well) for this.

I'll try to get something up for you as soon as I have time, busy day at work.

I'd like to apply.
Halfling Witch....
Why you ask....it seems like a challenge for a little one to end up in the lair of the lion. Even halfling luck has its day off.

GM, any restrictions to alignment? Meaning, can it be a CG?

Mia's a recylce character from a stranded campaign.
I can tweak her within the day guess.

Interested. This is the character I would like to use, submitted to a previous game but not accepted. I would of course adjust the crunch to reflect your requirements.

It's a human sorcerer, Riftwarden Orphan going for Archmage path. The background is in the profile.

Here is my Dirge Bard I developed for another WotR game that he didn't get in.

@Sixteenbiticon, no problem. I think most people who post characters quickly are shopping a character around, that they made before and wasn't selected. I know it takes time to generate crunch, I know it takes time to generate backstory. I hope I'm making it clear that I'm judging submissions primarily on backstory interest and less on crunch.

@Mia, Just remember my no evil rule. Mia as written is shown is NE. I'm not sure how you'd want to adjust her backstory if you're submitter has under a different alignment.

@Meria and Noyte, those both look like interesting submissions. No immediate concerns from me, I'll review them a little deeper later and will let you know if I have questions.

I'm adjusting right now. She'll be NG
As mentioned, she's a recycle, thus the adjusting. :)

This is my sumbmission, also submitted to a previous game. I believe that I need to update the stats to a 20-point buy (this one should be 15) but it's otherwise ready to go!

Halfling summoner (link to Eidolon in profile), Child of the Crusades trait going into Marshal, but I think I could just as easily rewrite myself into the Guardian or Archmage path (either way, the plan is to take the Dual Path feat).

Interested! I would like to run an Aasimar fighter going into the Champion mythic path.

@Mia, thanks, and to answer the earlier question, CG is fine, but NG is fine too. Honestly, I'm ok with any of LG, LN, NG, TN, CG, CN. (CN is a bit of a stretch and would honestly only be accepted for a character that's intending to become good over time, but wants to help serve as a bit of a foil to the other characters in the beginning).

@Meria, actually on deeper look, I would like to know more about Meria's motivations, rather than just her story. Is she sad she didn't pan out as a fighter? How does she treat & view others?

@Leylu, somewhat similar questions. backstory looks good, but I don't get much of a sense of her personality/outlook on life.

Would like to submit Asura. Was accepted to a WotR game that stalled during a pre-game session so we didn't even start WotR. Will expand on backstory, add description and personality and update crunch to your requirements hopefully tonight.

I imagine Meria grew up living a fairly rigid lifestyle. Up early, pray, train, help out Jeselaine with the tavern, to bed to repeat. She also grew up hearing the stories of the Crusaders, not just from her adopted mother but the patrons of the tavern. For her, it wasn't "I want to be a Crusader when I grow up" but rather "I will be a Crusader when I grow up". Following the teachings of Iomedae, she's honorable and honest.

While fit from the training she does with Jeselaine, she understands she doesn't possess the same strength to be a knight. When her sorcerous abilities were discovered, she's decided to make up for this weakness in other ways, focusing on summoning spells to summon those with the strength she herself lacks. While she does hold some small regret in this fact, she knows regret is a luxury a crusader can't afford.

Overall she tends to be a pleasant person. She has a high respect for the Crusaders of course. Overall she's friendly to other people, but views the problems of others as less than that of the Worldwound. She particularly takes offense at those who attempt to take advantage of the situation for personal gain.

Does that help?

Changing my submission to a Halfling Cavalier (Order of the Shield) going guardian. Working on him right now.

Also, I'd be willing to have a background that coincides with Mia's (from the same village, relatives, etc.).

Thanks!

Cool.

I'll finish up tonight with the sheet and will post the background here.

Added some more to the personality listing. You were right about it being a little lacking before. I suppose that's what happens when I have to devote time to the eidolon's personality as well. I've also updated the point buy.

Also, there seem to be quite a few Halfling entries. I definitely wouldn't mind trying to work out some ties there. :D

Thanks for the interest so far! We've got some good submissions. I'm, hoping to see a few more. I feel the campaign really does call out for a few more divine types, though I like the flavor people have been putting on their martial/arcane types.

Backstory:

Azim was born in Katheer the capital of Qadira. A simple barmaid his mother. She was taken one night by a trade prince. Not having money enough for herself she took the baby to the temple of Sarenrae. The monks and priest found the child in the morning and took him in.

Azim grew and studied at the temple. He became good friends with a young girl there. Her name was Hana. She had hair orange as the sun. Her eyes green but seem to almost flicker as a flame would. The two grew close and even trained together as battle dancers. Azim didn't have the grace that Hana did, but was able to come into his own at the art.

Hana was a couple years ahead of Azim, and finished her training. The two didn't say goodbye. They simply told each other until we are together again. Hana was going to the worldwound as many from the temple have. Azim would follow and they would bring the fight to hell together.

Azim was very devout in his worship. Not long after Hana had left he started receiving visions. He knew these images to be Sarenra herself. She blessed him and told him he was destin to take up her mantle not only as a battle dancer, but also as a a paladin in her name. He would do this once joining the fight at the worldwound. As his training grew to and end he was strong both in faith and body. He was now ready to not only find Hana, but to accept his destiny.

Azim now finds himself in the city of Kenabres. He has been searching and asking for Hana for only a day. He has been to the local temple and learned Hana has not been seen for days now. He hold her spirit in his heart and has yet to think the worst. He has read the texts of Yaniel and knows his enemy. He now makes preparations to search for Hana more.

I have heard really good things of this AP hope you like Azim. I would be curious and would give up my Alter Self if you would roll on the chart 3 times for me. Thanks.

Azim will be a mix of Bard and Paladin. It would be cool if the touch of divinity didn't tie me to Hierophant. I will prbably take the dual path feat and was thinking champion and maybe archmage, but I can just dual path champion with Hierophant so your call. Not sure what level we get to in this AP but my build will look like Bard 9/Paladin the rest with mythic. Though I may take 4 paladin levels before I take anymore bard at the start here. Don't know yet depends on how things are going I guess.

I thought about it some and decided to go with this instead.

Auryn Cadfael

Angelkin Aasimar Paladin of Iomedae
Child of the Crusades campaign trait
Marshall mythic path

background:
Auryn's mother Aerfen Cadfael was a human Paladin of Iomedae during the third Mendevian crusade one of the few not involved in the witch hunts. Auryn's father was a Solar Angel. His mother never shared with him the exact circumstances of his conception. When she discovered she was pregnant she left Mendev and went to Vigil in Lastwall. She saw it as a safer place to raise her child than a fortress a few miles from the demon infested world wound. When the fourth crusade started in 4692 AR she led a group of paladins and knights to join the new crusade against the Storm King. Auryn was one of those knights. Auryn fought under his mothers command during the crusade. At the end of the fourth crusade Aerfen retired to Nerosyan at the request of Queen Galfrey to help her try to gain more control over the crusaders in Mendev. Auryn is in Kenabres with a squad of other knights delivering packett of letters to Hulrun Shappok.

I would appreciate it if you could roll the three options to replace the spell like ability.

I've got Michael Carenae here, veteran of an earlier game that didn't get past the second or third encounter. It's been a while so I may need to check/adjust his stats to the point buy...

Here is the very barest of bones of my character. Still working on the background.

I've been looking through the Halflings of Golarion book and I like the Molthuni flavor that Canorate provides so if Mia and/or Leylu want to collaborate on that, I would be all for it. I'll be waiting to see what everyone comes up with.

I also took the rich parents trait to support my heavy armor as well as flesh out my background a bit. I will probably have funds left over to assist the rest of the party with their gear.

This character's a bard from a couple of past games that never got past...probably encounter 3-4 I would guess. I think the PB is 20, but even if not that's an easy enough adjustment. Background should be in there.

Getting excited here by all the submissions.

I'll roll for the racial powers for people later this evening EST. (and do another batch if needed in the morning for newer applicants)

Erhm..heh..the backstory is more than a few lines. So i put it in a spoiler.

GM, you mentioned a Mythic path. I didn't see a description or link for it.
Mia took the child of the crusade trait.

Spoiler:
Mia was born to a hedge witch mother and alchemist father. But her mother and father died during a skirmish with demonic forces. With little Mia left behind in the city of Nerosyan, she was adopted by Sandra, a good hedge witch employed by the Pathfinder Society. Mia's mother's line were known Lodge hedge witches employed by the society, sort of a family tradition. Having a secret lodge in the capital city of Nerosyan, her adoptive mother and Mia posed as apothecaries. This was credible, Mia's birthlooks gave her the guise of a human child. She even wears custom made shoes to complete the disguise.

Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury from the lodge asked Sandra to deliver a package to a contact within Kenabres. This was an extremely risky mission, sending a witch into the zealous city of Kenabres is like sending a deer into a wolf's den. Despite Mia's protest, Sandra agreed. The society masks its agents in Nerosyan as mercenaries. Thus Sandra, posing as the group's medic, went with a small number of halflings posing as mercs towards Kenabres.

Things went well, they even got through the gates.
"Wait here", Sandra said, "I'll deal with the guards asking about our identities."
Sandra walked up and waved her hand, "You don't need to know our identity."
Guard:<"We don't need to know your identity."[/b]

Sadly, even a halfling's luck takes a day off. A famous zealous inquisitor named Xander Anders detected Sandra's magic as she eased the tension with guards.
<"Unsanctioned magic! She must be a witch!">
Sandra knew the situation was bad, she gave the package to Mia.
"I'll keep him at bay, all of you, find the contact. You will know her when you see her. Now hurry!"

The halflings scattered into different directions. Luckily the evening shadows covered their appearances. With a small package the size of snuffbox clenched in her hand, the others scattered, Mia was about to end on a path she'd never would have expected.

GM Eric, I submit for your approval Aladir Cyruthion, an Elven Rogue (Scout) that has been in two or three WotR games; a couple of them died and another I dropped out of a couple weeks ago because the other players in it were all able to post several times a day and I was afraid I was slowing the story down with my one-or-two-a-day rate. I'm pretty sure he's still kitted out for a 20-point build but I'll check HeroLab when I get home and make what modifications need to be made to his stats and/or equipment load-out. The Mythic path he would be going for is Trickster with the campaign trait being Chance Encounter.

DM Eyes Only:

In the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to make it known that I created this character specifically because the idea of the succubus-turned-good in this AP, Arushalae, intrigued me greatly, to the point that I wanted to have a character who, if a PbP ever makes it that far, is able to help her complete the transition to the Good side of the alignment gauge. Just wanted to make sure that my motivations were out in open!

Mythic paths ate from the mythic adventures book.

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/mythicAdventures/mythicHeroes.html

Sorry on my phone so limited mark up.

Basically after chapter one you'll gain access to mythic powers. It's helpful for party balance to have a good spread of mythic paths represented.

Aladir, please spoiler tag that :)

Done! My apologies for not doing so in the first place. Should've known better.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Alexander Kilcoyne's Oread Monk submission. Got inspired by the Stolen Fury campaign trait, which is a very large part of this character's history and motivations.

Andanan Sumna-

Background Story/Appearance-

Bala Sumna was a devout, happy Vudran. A strong, tall young man with ebony black hair, and an especially extravagant beard. Bala took a great deal of pride in his hair; which only made the complete loss of it more painful.

Born into the middle of society, Bala had just exited his teenage years. A little slower than average in his studies, Bala was more devout than scholarly. His relatively simple mind took great pleasure in learning the mantra's of the many hundreds of Vudrani deities, and his family was pleased to see that he would likely be born into a higher caste in his next rebirth. He had, of course, heard of the Inner Sea Region, but he never expected to visit it. He was more than content to live out his life in one of the smaller Impossible Kingdoms- he used his prodigious strength to work as a labourer and split his time between that job and serving in the temple. While he dabbled in martial arts as many Vudran did, he never truly committed to it despite a certain aptitude. At the age of nineteen, Bala could truly say what many in the chaotic continents of Avistan and Garund could not; he was genuinely content with his lot.

Enter Stolen Fury, Andanan's campaign trait.

Alas, it was not to be. His strength and general heartiness of body, combined with a low caste and a simple mind, made him a near-perfect candidate for the demonic-worshipping cultists, whose influence had spread as far as the Impossible Kingdoms. Deceived and kidnapped, Bala had been chosen for a nefarious ritual.

Bala did not truly understand what happened that day in the ritual chamber. His memories of it are somewhat foggy, but he distinctly recalls being tortured with acid upon a stone table. He remembers the howls of frustration, near-drowned out by his own screams of pain- as something clearly went awry. Somehow, the acid and the magic Bala was subjected to did not have the desired effect. Whatever the cultists were hoping for did not come to pass. Bala's swarthy Vudrani skin hardened as his frame grew, enhancing his already potent muscles. His soft, almost curved features gained a hard, chiselled edge to them. Bala literally crystallised, granite rocks spontaneously forming upon his twisted body. His eyes became glazed over with a thin layer of gemstone and he lost his hair in the transformation; his new "skin" now an earthy-grey colour.

His new form at least gave him the strength to break his bonds, and Bala escaped, his rock-like fists shattering many bones in the panicked fight that followed. His hands and forearms left small shards of rock and crystal lodged in his foes bodies, causing tearing and bleeding beyond the mere bludgeoning of his fists.

Re-fluffing Belier's Bite feat essentially, so that Andanan's own rocky texture is what causes the bleed damage.

Although Bala escaped, he was barely able to come to terms with his new form, one he considered, quite frankly, hideous. He instinctively knew he would have no place in the caste-dominated Vudrani society which he was so fond of; he would be treated like a beggar by his own family, cursed or worse. His travels began the very same day he escaped the ritual.

A few years have passed since that day. Bala, now styling himself with an Oread name, Andanan (given to him at a remote monastery in Jalmeray by a reclusive order of those rare earth-touched people); passed the gruelling physical and mental trials they set before him before training him. He has embraced his new life with a calmer, more enlightened outlook, although he kept his last name as an honorific to his Vudrani people. Deeply connected to the natural world, Andanan has become very intuitive and has learnt to channel the elements into his fists; although it takes great concentration on his part. He finds that he has a particular affinity with acid; something common to the Oread's; the human off-shoot race he now seems to have unwillingly joined.

Andanan has taken vows of Truth, Cleanliness, Fasting and Celibacy in order to live a pure life and be rewarded in his next. He is driven and serious in his intent; which has now become clear in his travels. He is not sure what the cultists tried to do to him, but he knows first-hand the evil demon's and their ilk can inflict on unwilling victims. Thus, Andanan has travelled to Mendev; seeking to join the Crusades and serve as best he is able. He gladly pledges himself to a life of service and justice, fighting demons and the chaos they leave behind them in their wake at every opportunity.

Andanan prefers to fight with what Fate gave him; two hardened, stony fists; but he often uses his new-found Oread heritage to enchant pebbles he keeps in a pouch on his person, to be used either with his trusty sling or simply hurled at foes. He carries two Kama upon his belt as well, used more often for helping with harvest's when volunteering as a farm hand to work his way to Mendev than on living foes. He also favours a quarterstaff, having grown accustomed to the traveller's favoured tool during his long journey. A firm believer in being ready for whatever life might throw at him, Andanan carries a surprisingly large array of tools and mundane items in his hefty backpack.

While people do not generally discriminate against Andanan based on his form (as frankly, it is not nearly as unseemly as say a Tiefling's), he nevertheless is still very much uncomfortable in his own skin and a little ashamed.

Refluffing-

As mentioned, both his trait choice (Stolen Fury) and feat choice (Belier's Bite) have been re-fluffed somewhat, but mechanically are untouched. I've tried to leave Stolen Fury reasonably vague in case it has repercussions later in the game.

Crunch/Mechanics-

Andanan's statblock is listed in the following spoiler, as well as fully visible on this profile. Average gold was taken.

Player Details-

I've been active on Paizo forums for about 4/5 years now, running three of my own games. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon :). Timezone is GMT+0 but I keep strange hours so that is not much of a guide.

Mythic Path-

Andanan will go down the Champion mythic path.

Mia will take the archmage path.
So that ends with
Halfling/ Witch/ Child of the crusade/ Archmage.

@Morena; it happens. It's a rather *ow..what happened?*
Annoying when you edit your profile for example...

For submission! Human / Wizard(Evoker) / Riftwarden Orphan / Archmage and her backstory is in her profile along with a description and personality. I'll also add some RP. I already wrote it, but when I saved the post, it decided to not follow along.

Female Tieflings Cleric of luck
She CG/heals/and is nice, is god on a fight and fun to play with, I will tone her down a bit and shift some thing to fit the game play etc.
was in another game but that went south.
She's fun

Mythic root will be Hierophant, healer.

RP wise she talks with a Russian/eaten accent.

"Is good you picked me to help you heal leg, that bite is deep and gone bad. Here take this, drink it to stop pain, now if you cry like a baby wile I work, I think you less of man, like little girl MR Barbarian so drink, be still and no cry"

cuts away with saw etc.

@Sixtybiticon, Leylu, Marrit,

Maybe the reason for Mia being in the city can tie something in between us?

Here's the first batch of random rolls for alternate racial (aasamir) powers where relevant/requested. Note, this does NOT indicate any acceptance of the character for the campaign, at this point. I'm still evaluating all applicants (and still open to new ones).

Ashe:

15 = once per day, when a 0 hp you can take a full round action without losing an hp and falling unconscious
64 = +4 racial bonus on intimidate checks to demoralize opponents
or
87 = +2 racial ride/handle animals

Auryn:

11 = you can breath thin/stale air without problem, never suffer from altitude sickness
57 = +2 racial bonus on heal checks
or
77 = + 2 racial bonus on Knowledge (planes)

There are other healers in place and a Tiefling I think would not fit in with what's been submitted so far, GM, you want to keep this simple I feel.

Also I think as it more than likely the group will be heading into the world wound, then A ranger may be a good idea.

I offer up

Lady Lillyon Brightmoon

Elf Ranger.

She will go Trickster path for Mythic.

She has been out in the world wound, hunting evil.

By the way, for Aaliyah I'm likely to go with the Champion path, probably with Dual Path for some Archmage abilities. Mechanically, it makes no real sense with Touched by Divinity but she's more on the "Dervish" side of Saerenrae worship than the priestly side...just something that I think needs saying.

@GM_Eric I will take the +2 racial bonus on heal checks

What is your take on Aasimar/Tiefling age progression. The official pathfinder srd has them reaching adulthood at 60 years. this doesn't make much sense to me especially since a human reaches adulthood at 15 years. What parent is going to spend 60 year raising a kid especially when 53 is old for a human.

This character hasn't had much luck. Been in three games, all have died early on - first combat, third combat, and before the gameplay even went up!

Ulfen cavalier, in Kenabres hoping to join the crusades due to simply having nothing left to live for. Honor guard archetype, guardian mythic path, building towards a heavily shield-focused build. All info should be in the alias - posting from my phone, so apologies for being brief!

Yeah, official PF seems odd on Aasimar/Tieflings aging...

I tend to view them on a case by case basis -- they aren't so much a "race" as unique individuals.

So simply choose one of the following:
a) pathfinder official
b) equal to human
c) half-elf ages

The choice here doesn't need to match how "strongly outsider" featured you are. You could be an obvious "angel" but still age quickly, or a almost human with un-naturally long life.

If you'd like something different, just let me know.

Jens, what's the story behind his death before gameplay started? Gotta know :) (Feel free to wait until you've got a non-phone to post from)

Ah, it was actually the games that died,not the character, due to missing GMs. One left and the game died before the gameplay even began!

Human / Paladin / Child of the Crusades / Marshal

Background:

Toffer's parents died in the last crusades. He was left to be raised by a militant order of Iomedae who trained him from birth to be an even stronger holy warrior than his parents before him.

What they got was a mess of a human being. While naturally talented, charismatic, and strong, Toffer is lazy, boorish, and over-confident to the point of obnoxiousness.

After his training was complete, the clerics of Iomedae said goodbye to Toffer "reluctantly," and watched as he left to join the newest crusade into the World Wound. As he walked away, Toffer could have sworn that he heard a massive sigh of relief from the gathered clerics.

Imagine a good guy paladin version of a Cobra Kai member from Karate Kid. Super talented, good intentions, but a complete a+!++!% nonetheless. The idea is putting someone who has a good heart, but an icky exterior in a situation where he is forced to become a better person.

Grand Lodge

This is a character that I've been dying to use somewhere for a while. He's a human paladin with a focus on archery. I still need to adept him to your specifications and come up with a backstory.

Let's try Baradesh Ironheart.

Dwarven Stonelord Paladin of Iomedae. He'll be taking the Exposed to Awfulness trait and walk the Guardian Mythic Path.

When Baradesh was young his family came to Mendev, joining the Crusade against the Demons of the Worldwound. Smiths of renown and skill, the Ironheart Clan didn't lend there own strength directly to the battle, but instead to furnish the crusade with the finest of weapons and armour. They reasoned a handful of Dwarfs would make a limited difference, but a hundred men saved by solid Dwarf steel was another thing entirely.

Unfortunately, the smithy drew the eyes of the abyss. A Vrock Demon, a creature which delighted in the destruction of the beautiful. Apparently the well crafted weapons and armour were enough of a lure that once the creature slipped past the ward stones it found the smithy a tempting target.

Baradesh was away with his mother when the demon struck. They returned to find the smithy defiled, it's walls covered in the spore and creepers of the Vrock, a piled of broken weapon fuzed into an unholy symbol that burned the eye to look at. As they aproached the building the Vrock completed it's final act - the dance of ruin. The walls bulged outwards from the unnatural energies unleashed. Baradesh's mother was killed instantly, a rock the size of her head crushing her skull as it toppled from the weakened walls.

Baradesh was no so lucky. As the eight foot tall, vulture headed monster reared from the ruined smithy, a cloud of spores trailing from it's tattered body, it hissed in pleasured at seeing the concussed but still living child. It drew an already bloodied talon across the child's chest, leaving a gaping wound. Then it opened it's jaws to destroy one more thing...and it's head leaped from it's shoulders in a spray of gore.

A patrol of Paladin's of Iomadae had noticed the odd cloud of spores coming from the smithy. There leader, Sir Kera, had spotted the creature rising above the bleeding boy and charged, but the wound on Baradesh's chest acted...oddly. When it finally scabbed over it looked more like stone than blood, and refused to fade even with additional healing. Worse, the boy would not wake. Kera decided to take him back to the Temple.

A week later Baradesh awoke, weak but apparently healthy. He remained quiet, dour and lost as he recovered. He was the last of his family. Distant family in Five Kings were unlikely to be able to care for him even once they could be found and informed. Instead, it was the Paladin Kera who offered the dwarf child another option. Enter the Orphanage of the Temple of Iomadae. Learn the way's of the Goddess, and perhaps enter her service when of an age.

Baradesh accepted out of a combined hope of a future and respect for his saviour. He found Iomadea suited him, agreeing with the tenants of the Goddess and adopting them as his own. None were surprised when he entered training as a Paladin.

But Baradesh was never quite the same as the other novices. Instead of the potent smite evil power that most Paladins were famed for, he instead learned Stonestrike - the mark of the Stonelords. Perhaps it was simply his Dwarf blood and stubborn soul showing themselves, creating a champion that would not yield any more than the mountains bend. Or perhaps it was the odd mark on his chest, the stone-like scar that had never healed...

Whatever it was, it suited the Goddess to accept Baradesh's service, and therefore he could accept it.

~~~
My plan with Baradesh is to make him a tank. Full plate, tower shield and the Stonelord's abilities combining to make a bastion of a character that will be difficult to break but dangerous enough that ignoring him is not an option either.
I intend to grab the Mythic Power giving access to Legendary weapons, as a nod to his smithing roots. Dunno about the other abilities yet, though.
GM:
Background/Personality/Description update coming from me tomorrow. Updated crunch to match requirements. Are different heritages allowed?
@Asura, thanks! for that summary. Definitely better organized than the one I was doing on paper.
Alternate heritages are allowed, as long as they are Paizo and not third-party.
Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32
FYI I believe the halfling cavalier is aiming for guardian.
No problem and good to know! I'm a Paizo purest so I never have 3PP :)
As an aside if needed for party composition I would be happy to make a cleric or oracle for healing, though I'm playing two clerics currently so I thought I would switch it up with the Inquisitor.
Sovereign Court
Quick post to express interest. Looking at an elven magus following the champion mythic path that was in a different campaign that I will have to convert for Wrath. Will get more of the details tomorrow.
