ROFL- Now, that's probably one of the few movies I HAVEN'T thought about while searching for a character voice! Haven't thought of that one in a while, actually. That was a good movie.

Sure; you mentor would give you spells that you have not learned yet so that you could study them to grow; a lot of your career is private study; so your mentor gives you equal level spell you do not know yet to study; and some greater so that you can study them and learn about magic. So anything of level you can learn; you can roll to learn it; and the others; you just have to study.

as Speak Languages is a class skill for the Dragonfire Adept, I'm moving 1 point from Concentration to Speak Languages to pickup Dwarven.
Since Stonemasory is my characters background craft, who better to gain info about stonework than from a dwarf, so that means knowning their language :)
I know its a minor detail but it just came to me :)
Couple quick questions, which I probably should have asked and waited for answers for *before* my last ingame post:
1. Did Kemnebi actually get the smackdown from the divine powers for attacking the snake, or are we just assuming he did?
No; no divine smackdown; just and intense gaze on all of you; posted update.
2. Did he actually manage to stun the snake? If he did, I'm thinking it would be easy enough for him to point it out to us, so we probably wouldn't need to make another Spot check to see it. But if he didn't, then we'll probably have to make another Spot check, and failing that, Namaste will probably have to withdraw her mindlink attempt.
well hard to tell; after all the snake was just laying there; is still laying there; not moving; anyone got sense motive good enough to work on a snake; doh hehe; the cold blooded, cross race modifier would be pretty big. of course; you could just go pick it up; then you would know if it is stunned or notl; hehe;
hehe this really did make me laugh out loud; thanks. I love the way MB's character talked to himself.

hmm was looking at scene exps for the coming end of scene; doesnt seem like anyone is still here from the original party that set out from the Southern continent; wierd.

After this last adjustment I think I'm good until I reach another level (If I survive that long! A definite maybe if I'm gonna make a habit of ticking off gods!) :)
Any limitations on scribing scrolls into my spellbook now that Kemnebi is out in the 'real' world? I presume i have to succeed at the roll to learn the spell first? (That is still normal in 3.5, right guys?) If so then after I straighten my char sheet, his first chance to rest he will probably scribe at least some of the scrolls that he purchased into his spellbook. After all, he can always make more scrolls later!
You can scribe these into you spell book easily; you have a 100% chance of doing it correctly with your intelligence. In my game I do a 100% to learn a spell at your highest level; so if you are 5th and can learn spells; with 18 int you have a 100% chance; +5% for lower level spells; so learning new 1sts will be 110%. So; your probably asking why this is significant; well; if the spell is written in a language you dont know; it brings down your percentage; as well as other things such as spell partially missing; ie you have to figure out those parts or spell written in code; things like that.
Also; a spell is just a collections of notes that are meaningful to the caster; some might write it like a recipe; some mages might have lots of little bits of paper; just think of people in school and how many note taking techniques there are to learn stuff; same thing for mages; sometimes its hard to figure out if a mage is just doodling in the margins or if that is a singificant symbol; :)
now; to make a scroll that you can cast the spell from; that takes special inks that can hold magical energy; hence the cost; and you cast the spell into it and it holds the charge; how good the paper and the ink is makes a difference to how well this works; sometimes scrolls can be duds or have random results if strange materials are used or wierd magical influences abound during there creation; just keep in mind that Magic is basically manipulation of the forces of Chaos to change the Lawful way things happen ;ie; bend the rules; change chance; like that. this is just the fluff and mechanics; basically; as a super genius; your character wont have many problems with ordinary spell situations.

OKies, when I get my character sheet straightened out, I will re-work my spell list as you told me above. Then worry about scribing scrolls into the spellbook when we get a chance. I did buy some inks and such on my sheet. (I think I listed it as spellbook inks?) I won't be writing any scrolls yet, but just wanted to make sure we were on the same page!
ANYway, thanks again! So far, so good. I haven't gotten anyone killed yet! ;)

About the contact from Verdan, is this the same person I have written down as "Veran" in my character background, or is this an NPC that you added? If the former, then that would raise flags with Namaste, even moreso than the bizarre things he is asking her to do, because he wasn't with the group that left Adar, he was with the group that stayed behind. If it's a new NPC who was a member of the group that left Adar with her, then it wouldn't confuse her as much, though the blood rite he's asking of Namaste would still seem unusual.
Also, can Sense Motive be used over a psychic connection like Mindlink where you can't actually see the other person? The book description says it is used to sense body language, mannerisms, speech patterns, etc. So body language would be out without line of sight, but I would think speech patterns and some mannerisms might still carry over. I'll go ahead and post a Sense Motive roll in the game thread, but feel free to ignore it or subtract from it, according to the circumstances.

Ok; going to the islands tomorrow; not internet for me till tues; just wanted you guys to know; am not in any way ignoring or dropping; things are just warming up;
how do you guys like it so far; feedback is always nice.
ok; bit about the emperor, just player fyi; he was released by a pc party some time back and traveled with them for a while learning the new world; as pcs came and went in the group he got to know a many people; as Acorn and the Prophetess also travel with the party for nearly a year; they are some of the few people he knew before he became Emperor. I just wanted you guys to know this all fits together so you just dont think I drop powerful people in for no reason. When either of them speak to or about him; he can hear it and stuff said around it; he sponsors hero groups to fix stuff; so was just checking you out.
Mercury and Apollo have a direct interest in what is going on; the prophetess also gave you some background on other events that could affect the pantheon; as my game is ongoing over more than two decades, there is a lot of stuff going on and lots of loose ends; am giving you this semi explaination as I havent really given you much history that each of your characters would know; will recitify that as soon as I can. Will post it and you guys can read it or not as you like. I think that will give you better immersion and not have you feel like you exist in a vacuum. You actions truely have and affect and a direct impact on my world. This is true for any PC.
here is an example; there was once this dwarven pc who had a everflowing bottle; was good for crossing deserts and stuff; well; one day he told it to poor water fast as he needed a lot; well; he rolled a one and fumbled the cap; he was being chased by a monster; so never recoverd the cap; the thing was still pooring out water from the elemental plane of water; well; what did he do; he looked around; nobody was watching; set the bottle down and walked away. hehe; so now there is an unnatural lake in the middle of a desert that completely changed the ecology of that area; later; bout 40 years game time; a druid pc in a party nearby sees the area and it bothers her as unnatural; they figure out the problem; find the cap; cover the bottle; keep the bottle and move on; lake still there and all the life that grew up around it; good example of how even little things and non combat activities can make a huge impact.

Definitely enjoying the game, very in-depth.
As for background info I’ve been going through all the info you’ve posted and trying to organize it.
For character info might I suggest letting us know info what would/might be common knowledge on a board aspect on regional and global events, also for history. Then more additional and specific info on regional, global, and history events based on some rolls.
Another suggestion that will require more time on your behave is to write a journal/diary or maybe even a calendar timeline format on your worlds history, current events, races etc… Basically a lot of the background info you’ve already posted will be more structured this way instead of getting it in bits and pieces.
Save it to a file and update it as your world advances. The file can be uploaded so that current and future players could download it.

Enjoying this beginning very much thank you. FOr me it very much invokes the feelings of some of the novels, (Specifically the FR books) where lower-level characters meet and interact with higher level characters all the time. And you can't always tell which is which!
Give me a few days to digest all of the information you are being so generous with, (STILL playing catch-up on your original posts before I joined!) and if I have any confusion I'll drop you a question.
Journal- I think I will try to follow the above excellent suggestion and keep my character's journal under a spoiler tag on my character's profile. When you get a chance, could you or maybe Balfic post an example of what your looking for? Mainly format; cut & dried like a grocery list, or creative writing (a chance to get all of the ideas that we had but didn't get to post?) Just so we know what to start with.
I also like how you (seem to be) working in all of our backgrounds so seamlessly into your plot. EIther you already had a lot of ideas burning holes in your brain that we gave you an opening for, or your very quick at picking up ideas and running with them!

Nah, that's okay, we can leave it as is. In fact, that can provide a whole new spicy element to the story - sort of a "you were safe at home, why did you leave Adar, was it to find me?" arc.
Given that Namaste and Veran had sort of started having romantic inclinations toward each other back home, but then in his absence, she started having similar thoughts of her female companion Treyva, it could add a whole warped love triangle aspect, too, if the three should ever find themselves together again and on the same plane of existence, not to mention adding to Namaste's own confusion about her sexual identity.
Well, there you have it. Either Zuberi will look a bit of a fool or he may have just impressed the Priestess.
Maybe even stumbling upon a load of xp :)

I will try to post some of the Major Events that have happened in the world tomarrow. My spelling and exact dates will be off. Hard to remember everything thats happened in the game for the last 16 years. If I get anything wrong I am sure Val will correct me.
Lorderl, I think it was one of the most brilliant intuitive leaps I have ever read, (And I've just finished reading the entire collected stories of SHerlock Holmes!) Or this is the biggest case of mistaken identity I will ever see! :)

Heh, it seemed like the perfect opportinity for a Lord of the Rings moment, and the best way to portray high Charisma/ average Wisdom.
Athena's church supports diplomacy and when necessary all out war. Astinos is the guy who gets the call when the diplomats decide its a wash.

So if Acorn were meant to accompany us, then once we reached a certain point she may just reveal her true self, which would then match the Priestess words of us finding the deific child.

It also goes to show how much playing the different characters I have affect me and my thinking. In another thread (currently on hiatus) I play a spellcaster who thinks he is a combination of The Doctor and Sherlock Holmes. He is constantly looking for how things all tie together and jumping to conclusions. (sometimes erroneously, but not always! He is also a lot of fun!)
But playing this poor confused teenager, I would never have thought to look for those clues that you saw! Even though his INT is high enough to figure things like that out if he were presented with the parts of a puzzle, his WIS isn't high enough to see it for the clue it might be! I guess I'm playing him right so far! ;)
Okay time for some background.
The Great Fortress of Tri Clorius Spetum build by the races of Man, Elf and Dwarf to ward against evil coming from the east fell 20 years ago. It fell in a day. A giant Gate is open to the Abyss there and Daemons are flooding into this world. Before all this happened a King of one of the 3 Races lived there as stewardship of the Fortress in 1 year intervals. The Dwarven King was in command when it fell. Armys from the Human Holy Cities immediately ride out to War against the Demonic Host. The Battle lines haven't moved.
The Valley of the Ancients is the homeland for the Elfin and Dwarven people. The Viking lands are also a part of it. It was conquered by the Four Horsemen about 15 years ago. The Dwarves have locked themselves up in there mountians. The Elves all left except for a few resistance fighters to The Main Elfin Kingdom which is far to the north.
Mages of Hazard Class and above who are not a part of the Evil Army are being encased in a magical crystal that no one seems to be able to break.
The Four Horsemen are, Ubel and Oberon Anti-Paladin Brothers, Ronin the Assassin. DeathKiss walks behind him. And Corbova, Cleric/Magic-user/Psionist and the most feared of the four.
The army collects all the magic items it comes across and ships them to the City State of Tartanis. One of the adventuring party betrays the World , and sides with the Four Horsemen, and there Master. He now rules the City State of Tarantis, with the watchful eye of Cordova over him.
15 years ago the Well of Life is corrupted with a shard of the Ultimax Death Stone. Any wound taken will heal back as Undeath. The Continent containing Greece, and The Roman Empire get enveloped by the Dark Well. Undead gather and mass enslaving all the populas. Nations above and below ground are all eventually conquered. The Ghul's take the UnderDark in the region. Those who can flee to the Southern Continent and make refugeee camps.
China is conquered by the Snakemen-no one even knows. Happened about 10 years ago. It is only rumored that this ancient and reclusive nation even fell. It is not confirmed til 4 years after its fall.
8 years ago. Kojan with a group of Hero's including Balfic battle to, and cleanze the Well of Life. Three Ancient Gold Dragons take up residence to help the Guardian protect the Well. Refugee's decide to move to the Well of Life. There is an Abundance of everything there.
Okay will break down other events based on where you are from.
For Astinos: Dwarven Hero Baylinor Stormwall along with Balfic, the Wizards Fystor,and others defeat Taliesephius the Death Knight corrupted Knight of Posieden. Baylinor takes the Ice Gauntlet of Equinox. Balfic-graa The High Priest of Darkness shuts down the Dark Well in the event known as the Day of Pain. Everything both living and dead are wounded. The Sun returns to the land. Many of the Greater Undead are Destroyed or driven into the UnderDark. This happened roughly 4 years ago.
Zuberi & Kemnebi: Baylinor gains audience with the Pharaoh. He convinces him to send his Armys to the Southern Continent to battle the Armys of Set to protect the Well of Life. Also to stop the Elfin Army. Which appears to be almost every last remaining Elf on the planet. They are killing everything in there path to get to the Snakemen. Sebastion shows up and forces a peace between the Egyptians with the Greco-Roman allies and the Elves. This is still a "current event".
It is known an Army of Orcs is also battling the Snakemen helping Human, Elf, and Dwarf alike. The Ghuls mysteriouly showed up on the continent 100,000 strong and allied with the Snakemen. A note about the Ghuls. These are all Champions and Hero's from the Plane of Shadow. In game mechanics terms consider them between 8-16 Hit Dice.
The Orc Army with others aretrying to keep the Snakemen from reaching The Escarpment. If they make it to there, then they can mind control the Dinosaurs that are native there. The Snakemen can control any form of reptile they come in contact with. Be it Dinosaur, Dragon, or Kobold. The Snake Gods do march with there Armys in Battle.
Persia just recently finished a bloody Civil War. Half the population died, in the millions.
Hope that gives you guys something to chew on. Will try to post a write up, and maybe a pray so give you guys a bit more of a feel. I am leaving tons of stuff out. Not sure how much Val wants reveiled at this time. If you want you can click on Balfics Character. Will give you a bit more info without saying to much.

Okay everyone here is an example write up of Balfics. Hope you enjoy.
My thoughts turn to Lorm. New found convert to my Gods faith. His false devotion disgusts me. He betrayed Shang Ti. So I expect he will betray my God. It amazes me how easily he throws away his oaths and loyalties. Didn't Arlene mean anything to him? His Family and Honor when he discarded his heirloom? His word when he abandoned his monkish order? I just don't understand. Now he stands before me acting reverent. In a pious stance. He mocks me. My God favors him. I do not.
I use to think him a fool. Now I see differently. He gave up his life long quest for self discipline and improvement. To become a wizard. Abandoning Shang Ti and his family for power. He gave up his own wife when she became and inconvience. Did he ever love her? Thinking back no. He never did. He always chose the book over her. All that time I tried to help Arlene with her insecurities. Trying to please Lorm. He never gave a damn.
I must ask myself; what kind of a man leads an army so he can rape women? Exspecially when years before he rescued his future wife from being raped. What kind of general leads an army to its destruction. Betraying Emperor and country to become an ambassador to the enemy? An enemy that can not be compromised with. All the while is men lie bleeding on the battle field, or rotting on prison. The same man who swore oaths to my God. Yet broke all others. I now understand this man. I will notunderestimate him. He is my enemy.

Well; as none of my partys have done much of the American Indian; or Egyptian plots much; just barely scratched the surface of what i call the American South section; and not much of most of Asia; barely touched on stuff in China; not much India or Japan; there has been a whole lot of development of the Scandanavian region which is where part of the Valley of the Ancients is; there has been some good developments of the Roman area north of where you are; but not much down here in Greece; lots of development of the middle east; ie the Holy Cities; and I would say there has been a whole lot of underdark and southern continent development over the years.
as for books; well; I have themes and parts of about nine books; Dune features heavily as well as many viking sagas; Yes, very much the book of nine swords and old stuff like Count Brass and Elric as well as the stuff from STeven Brust's Taltos adventures; lot of my own stuff mixed in and all tied together with the glue of our worldwide myths; so have fun; if I dont have it; we can add it; :)

She will not accompany you at this point; she is the Oracle's personal guardian and the Oracle moves about; you have only scratched the surface with her; a few surprizes are in store :)

Thoron, feel free to chime in if you like in the discussion thread; hehe haveing been the only truely "doomed" character around hehe and probably the most changed; up to you. You and Caran can join in at will in the pbp; I can work it out whenever. you may keep any inside info to yourself if you like also.
if you like; just join right in the spot where the bard and the mind mage are; that is a good spot for you; caledon is there to; he would not go to the Oracle for any reason and he would approach you.

ok; write ups are totally from the characters perspective; they are really for my eyes only; I use them to understand why your character did what you did be it cultural; morality; alignement; or whatever this helps me understand your characters goals and aspirations as well as modify my graphs for alignement.
think of it as your characters inner dialog and a record of things you did that your character thinks is meaningful.
it is not uncommon for a write up from one player to point out a needed exps reward for another player; actually; this is fairly common.
I will try to do exps soon so you can see a little of how I do it; though I dont have a lot to work with at the moment.

I have already added a 'Journal' section to the very end of my character profile. Just doodled a note so far. Will add more when I can. Will probably organize it under real world dates for organizational purposes. I will do my best to make it all new and relevant thoughts and not just repeat what happened in the thread.
