sorry about the son slip; my bad; just ignore that.

interaction; no, you are both of the same age and both now in more or less the same social class; temple vs scholar; both minor heroes; you have surpassed your upcomming and both are bright stars; doubt you would feel any special interaction modifiers. Being a child of the Temple of Isis is not frowned upon in this society; is a blessing really.

I'll say. (Not sure if its just directly off the charts but it says son when my character is female) I've updated my sheet for all the stuff. A question though do you think these background roles would affect the way my char would interact with Kemnebi?

It all seems good to me. I would say that if Ibenbast did have a small crush on her it would be very much one sided not because she dislikes Ibenbast but because she would see him as well above her station.

That's all good. I'm just trying to remember all the things that made my teenage years fun/interesting/tolerable/unbearable and cram them all back into Ibenbast. Unrequited love was definitely in there! :)

As far as the friendship goes, I suppose that Egypt is/was a very class-structured society, but that probably wouldn't have meant as much to Kemnebi as 1) He didn't get out to mingle much,... and 2) Since he was more 'privileged', he was allowed to flaunt the rules more easily than the 'less-privileged'. And your friendship would probably have been the closest thing to an outright rebellion that he would have done.

So, in short, we are friends, (never anything more), KEmnebi noticed your string of 'bad luck' and less-than-deserving treatment, and came close to outright rebellion against those who wold have him break off his friendship with Nebibit. He never mentioned his suspicions to you (or anyone else) because he was too busy proving how clever he was to himself trying to figure out what was going on with all of your 'close calls'.
So I would guess we know each other well enough to know basic likes/dislikes, probably chatted about our individual future plans (hopes/dreams) a few times, and know each others basic abilities and personalities. But probably not each others deep-seated fears, or goals, etc.

If that;s ok with you? I think that covers the basics, anything else you think we should/shouldn't work into it?

All seems good. Cant think of anything to add right now but I'll let you know if anything comes to mind.

On the home front,
It's my bday today, so I probably won't be on tonite. Hopefully because I'm celebrating! :)

Laters,...

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

Hope you have a good Birthday! SO how many times do we get to whip Kemnebi in you stead? Have a great day.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Awesome; celebrate and enjoy it; no problems about posting; I wont be on much to move things along as much as I am sunday through wed. Have a great time and be safe.

That goes for everyone; dont sweat having to post; enjoy the game; it shouldnt stress you. Thoronhen I suppose in game terms would probably need to post the most; or anyone when they are leading; rouge types generally have the most to do as per trap checks and the like; but I understand he can only post at night after work; but as I have his phone number; I can always call him to ask what he would do and post it for him.

Just wanted to say to everyone no worries; have fun with it and post as often as you like; if your concerned about holding things up; just use this discussion board or the pbp board to tell your future actions with a little flexibility.

we are all learning theis pbp stuff together; no worries.

no worries; makes the anguish of what the next round will bring hang; hehe; is a real nail biter I think as your the last post needed for the next round to begin.

That's right, in the midst of predatorfest '09, Astinos just tied a raw porkchop around his neck. Been nice knowin' ya.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

I am wondering why he did that; have to look at my maps; I dont think anyone can get past the worms; undead are immune to any cohersion or mental or enchanting type stuff, after all, they are brain dead; so have to check some stuff, rules and things before we can continue.

Way it's written it affects any creature with Int 5 or higher and a CR equal to or greater than my level -2 (4+). As to why? As a pally surrounded by evil and undead, forced to wrk with some of highly questionable morals, his moral compass has taken a brutal beating. He's becoming slightly unhinged a bit, and seeks the purity of standing in battle defending one's friends. That he can at least know where he stands.

Wisdom is in his Goddess's portfolio but it's his biggest failing right now.

Male Half-Orc 9th lvl Cleric, 4th lvl Ninja, 1st lvl Black Flame Zealot

I think Astinos will be okay. Undead are not affected by Mind affecting abilities, or are just mindless. Page 35 Liber Mortis. Unless you decide to charge headfirst into a pile of worms. For the Undead the worms are the major threat. We can probably get out of there fairly unscathed unless we get caught by some Liches throwing nukes.

Bet Ragadolf is going to have a ball when he catchs up reading everything. Hope he had a good birthday.

One of the hardest challenges for DM that I have found over the last nearly 30 years of doing this is trying to relate things that are scarey to players on the scale and danger level that I am concieving.

In general in an adventure that I design; there is a bunch of enemies that are no challenge for a party; a few that are minor challenges; several that are equal; several more that are a bit more challenging than equal; one or two hard ones; and one or two that are just way over tuff. It is interesting to me how players respond to these challenges. Some players run from everything; some players never run even if it seems certain death. Add in all the themes and social interactions and it gets very interesting.

for instance; I am enjoying Astinos having to consider the battle that is developing here; how it happened; what is likely to result and weigh that against the mission to save a goddess of life; stop the bad guys from putting out the sun and a few other sub plots. So choices; that is what I like about the whole game; what is the best choice for any character in any given situation.

As a GM; just the scale of what is happening here is really taking a life of its own; let me fill in a few blanks and relate them just so you get an idea.

Jewel is one of the five main bad guys daughter; she knows her dad is insane and wants to destroy the world slowly and with much pain, suffering, mustard and relish. She snuck away and joined up with the Emperor who gave her protection and joined his organization; but she is chaos; grew up the pretty princes and was chafing under all the laws and restrictions; so she wanders and find interesting people to hang with. Well; being who and what she is; she is known by alot of people; the mask is linked to the Orb that circles the Emperor's head; as are all masks of his guys and the Orb records all of that and since the Orb is intelligent; it informs the Emperor that a situation that needs his attention is developing. so what is likely from that; well; he is likely to send a group of troubleshooters to handle the situation, this situation requires some big time troubleshooters.

That is just one little thread; Namaste's familiar; that is another; was altered by a character in my game who watches such stuff and has the ability to do what it did; that character just happened to be one of the trainers of the undead fey kid teaching him many skills and fighting styles as well as giving him cool gear and who (the kid) also happens to be tied to the same elemental power source as Jewel; Namaste's familiar so they see and recognise each other; the kid knows Jewel, but not that well; but Jewels older sister is practically raised him along with her lover Balfic Graa; so, when that familiar and that kid see things are way out of hand and start screaming for mom to come rescue them from the crap they got into way over their head; well, we are talking some fairly near epic guys coming to the rescue to see what trouble junior got into.

Add to that just who hole problem of the worms of kyuss and how they spread and take over undead and we have a real hum dinger here; I still have to figure out how the greek/Roman army is going to respond; add as well that according to my events calendar another npc you guys dont know; is about to start her march to find a certain bad guy that when these two meet up; its the start of the end of the world; but hey; this big cluster war down here is right in her path so will bog her down dealing with it; so in a way; this mess delays the end of the world; pretty cool.

now if the pc's can just save the diety of life from getting sacrificed and the bad guys using the power released from her death from putting out the sun; and finding the and recovering the piece of Osiris needed to fight the Snakemen; this will have been one humdinger of a move and shake the world adventure; but to do that; you gotta live through this scene.

so; I have been planning the return of Vladimir from the civil war on the plane of air; naturally he would want to see what is squire is up to; now if he happens to come here; hehe now him and the biotch with the bone would be one heck of a fight; this little dance is turning out to maybe get bigger than the battle of five armies at the end of the Hobbit. hehe talk about a game of dominoes; when I had that little planned encounter of the little girl going to hear the concert stop and dance with Llevnoc; I never in a million years saw this coming. That is the cool thing about being a GM; there is so many threads of things and alliances going on it nearly takes a life of its own; things like this help me grasp things like how and why WWI started with all those alliances and big guns sitting around just from the little dominoe push of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.

Pretty cool; there is so much more going on that I could tell you; but that is really the domain of in game people who can relate the story. I just wanted to give you a sense that what you do here really matters and affects the world on a scale you probably were not aware of.

Hey, I'm back.
Had crazy week/weekend myself.
MArdi Gras party in my auditorium,... yippie,...

Will be busy this week with a musical a high school is putting on (Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat) SO I'll pretty much be unavailable at nights, but should be able to keep up during the days.

Um,... Wow.
I haven't even started reading the thread yet, but from the sound of it, my lil cat-guy may be digging a hole to CHina about now! BAre-handed! :)

Thx for the background Vale, someday I may introduce you to one of my old original gaming buddies. He's pretty good at taking a background story and turning it into a whole world plot with multiple weblines as well! You two would get along great!

OK,... JUmping in with both feet now,...

Hey Ubermench,

Was reading the forums and noticed you said you live in Albuquerque. What part of town? Val, me and a couple others live there as well. Maybe we can grab lunch sometime.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

yeah; that would be cool; Balfic and I get together now and again for lunch; would be cool if you could join us sometime.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

It is my expectation at this point that everyone; Fystor; Balifc; Cera, Lorm, (probably not Kojan as he probably wouldnt leave the Dwarven hold until it is totally cleansed and in dwarven hands; but he might send his little brother Kosan...), Vladimir; Aekiko, Arlene - oh, wait; she is dead, Kormath probably riding the Shadow Dragon that is at the northern dwarven hold and whomever they might all invite or bring all come here to kill the Worm incurrsuion; battle the undead; be a good oppurtunity as you guys could make a fuss and the Army of Romans and Greeks could invade; might settle things on this continent until Freida gets here. I bet that wayward Barbarian that insulted Bob can pop out of hole and show up here as well.

up to you guys though; be one hell of a epic slobbernocker; so your choice; and yes; the Maiden of the North would join you as she would be with Balfic.

hehe so much for creepith quitely into the city and enter the green door; hehe; best layed plans of mice oh no; did I say mice; no not the Skaven; what have I done! No Cera No.

well; if I remember right Balinor has a consecrated aura from the exorcist class; that aught to do something hehe;

so you guys get a chance to meet some of the fairly old timers in the game; what is humorous is they are only there to provide a distraction so you guys can do what you need to do because they cant do it.

Val, can you give me a little more detail on the deal Loviatar made with Apollo, at least as far as it affects Namaste? You had said that she won't be able to cross the seal once we reach it, because her deal with the Chancellor basically stripped her of innocence and would set off all kinds of alarms and wake up the Big Baddie and hasten the end of the world. How does the deal to keep the sun from coming up for three days affect that? Does that circumvent that caution, allowing her to move past the seal without endangering the sun? Or is she still going to be stuck on the outside once we reach that point?

On an unrelated topic, Albuqurque, huh? Small world, I lived there for a couple years as a kid. We lived three years total in New Mexico, two in Albuqurque and one in Clovis, then moved to Northern Ireland for several years before coming back and finally settling down in Missouri.

Lorm Dragonheart wrote:

Ah yes, typo. Sorry.

(Although with all the immigration situation, it's sometimes hard to tell!)

;)

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

no; its not the deal; the reason you cannot cross the seal is because that demon prince showed you the living gate of the Abyss; that giant creature; just seeing that; all those demons; and being in contact with that demon prince has left a temperary darkness on you; it will go away with time and good acts; but at the moment; the seal will react to the extraplanular evil.

Think of it as a taint like getting sprayed by a skunk; to the seal you stink; adventually it will go away. In my game nobody can look upon that kind of supernatural evil and not get a bit of taint; it was of necessity as you needed to know; but there was a price.

so; its not the deal so much as what you saw and how that changed you.

Just thought I'd compile the buffs/gifts we got from the epic characters, to make sure everybody took note of them:

Kojan - +6 Con for duration of Fortitude spell
Balfic - +5 to skills/abilities/saves/attacks/damage (only to worshippers of the God of Darkness or followers of Balfic)
Fystor - +4 moral bonus (wizard) to attack/saves/skills, immunity to fear, +20 HP for 30 minutes (also 8 potions of Cure Moderate Wounds, given to Jewel)
Lorm - Mass Cat's Grace (+4 to DEX) for duration of spell
Baelinor - Mass Eagles Splendor (+4 to CHA) duration as Lvl 16; Mass Energy Resist (Val to choose energy type) duration as Lvl 17
Kormath - black box

Did I miss any? By the way, what are the particulars on the Mass Energy Resist? I couldn't find a spell by that name, but there is a spell "Resistance" (+1 to all saves), and a feat "Resist Energy" (resistance 10 vs chosen energy type). Is it a mass version of one of those, or something different?

I mixed the words up, it is Resist Energy, Mass. Its in the Complete Arcane and is just the mass form of Resist Energy in the Players Handbook (pg 272). Its like your 10pt comment, but at the level cast is 30 with a duration of 170min.

The three biggest ones in the US are New Orleans (obviously), Atlanta, and St. Louis (my hometown). The largest one in the world, though, is in Rio, I believe. As far as New Orleans goes (and Ragadolf can answer that much better than I can), but I believe the French Quarter was one of the areas less affected by Katrina. I believe the Mardi Gras there has been back up to par for the past couple years at least.

HAPPY MARDI GRAS/FAT TUESDAY!

(I tried to log in yesterday, but Paizo seemed to be offline for some reason)

And now, for one last flurry of PbP before the famine of Ash Wednesday befalls!

RE: New Orleans-I don't know about 'great', but it is most assuredly back up and running. The French Quarter was probably one of the least damaged by the storm and following flooding. The majority of problems were caused by the looting and the fact that the people who STAYED after all was done were the ones you don't want as neighbors! ;P

But judging from what I saw this weekend, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of people willing to come out and play at the parades! Locals and visitors alike! (I avoided the Quarter this year, just seemed like a good idea.)

Beads- I had managed to get rid of almost all I had gathered over the years, this weekend I think I restocked completely! (Thank God I have an attic to shove them in now! I swear those things multiply when you aren't looking!)

Lots of good RP'ing fodder in the encounter before we descended, and since!
I seriously need to update the kitty journal!

Are we going ahead with the 'Nebibit fell down the rabbit hole' scenario? In the hopes that she may one day return? I thought might put in a reaction to that, in the journal at least.

Thats what I thought. Part of the reason why my character is so agitated. Figure its part of the "DOOM". Seeing how fast she disappeared my character would try and keep a closer eye on protecting you. At least in theory.
